It's Monday's ugly little sister, plus Bob Dylan's birthday.* What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm smelling fantastic in Thierry Mugler Cologne. Tea at the moment is roasted dandelion and cardamom.
Reminder: on 5/27, wear a fragrance by Alberto Morillas, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is a paper Bob Dylan dress by Harry Gordon, from the late 1960s. You can read more about Gordon's poster dresses here.
*If you have anything bad to say about Bob Dylan, I'm afraid you'll have to say it somewhere else. Negative remarks about Bob Dylan violate our comment policy.
Body Kouros (YSL). Haven’t worn this in ages… 🙂
Like running into an old friend.
Had to get up earlier then I wanted to today – and I am not a morning person. Wearing Cristalle. Wish I would have put on more.
Robin – that tea sounds very interesting – is it all herbal or a flavored tea?
It is a traditional medicinals bag tea, just the roasted dandelion. I put in a small pot with a spoonful of (bulk) roasted chicory, then I crack 3 fresh cardamom pods into the pot. The combo tastes vaguely-sorta like cardamom-chicory coffee.
Yum – sounds good. I’ll have to try the roasted chicory. I like the dandelion root tea, but I normally drink that in the evening. It tastes good iced too.
The roasted chicory adds more bitter. My husband likes it in coffee but he hates my tea mix. So your mileage may vary 🙂
I’m considering Mugler cologne as one of my options for Friday. Today I’m wearing another Divine creation; L’Amesoeur.
Your tea sounds intriguing, I don’t drink a lot of herbal teas, my TODM is Mangue Macaron Jasmin. Which I’m beginning to actually enjoy a lot.
Do you own their entire line? You always seem to be wearing one of their perfumes, and they only have six per gender!
No, I don’t. And I actually don’t wear them more than a few times each month. I do recommend them a lot though, as I think the line is good and fairly priced.
I own 2 masculines and 5 feminines and they currently have 4 masculines, 6 feminines and 1 unisex fragrance in their line up.
She is the “DIVINE” enabler ????
Sampling a couple of Neil Morris fragrances– Flowers for Men Gardenia which is a nice slightly soapy floral hay so far and Flowers for Men Lilac which starts with a noticeable lilac that seems to be getting smokier. Both feel unisex
I have somehow never heard of these but l always thought someone should do a line of roses for men, tuberose for men, gardenia for men, traditionally feminine flowers made interestingly masculine in a Western sense (because in other cultures such flowers can easily be masculine) while still keeping their essential character. I am going to have to check these out.
The lilac sounds really nice…
I’m really liking it, much more than the gardenia one
On this cold damp day Orange Sanguine with a layer of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla….although I owned many full bottles of Morillas fragrances drained them all years ago…wish I still had my Isabella Rossellini Manifesto….that was the fragrance that made me fall for basil notes…..
I still have the Manifesto and only wear and enjoy it in the heat of summer – it smells like my herb garden!
Lucky you…enjoy it 🙂
Alahine in solid form . The compact is so adorable
Tea is MF
Pink lipstick in Blossom Lady today with my rainy outfit
My second cup of tea is some freshly made chai from my in laws, they just grounded the spices yesterday and brought some to me at work. Alahine and Chai tea = a good morning
Freshly ground masala chai sounds WONDERFUL.
🙂 yum!
That does sound like a lovely combo! What MF did you drink earlier this morning?
Montagne D’Or..if you like Marco Polo you will love this more..
For green I like their Nocturne Oriental
I’ve sniffed it, but haven’t actually tried it. On my wishlist it goes. I love their Marco Polo, but I like Wedding Impérial and Thé de Lune even more.
For green I love Festin d’Or and Lune Rouge in summer.
Almost makes me wish for a winter day. Sounds wonderful!
Tsarina from a sample today. Very delicate. Probably overwhelmed by the fact I later added a small amount of Grey Vetiver. Which I rather like for work – and I like the mismatch with OOTD which is a dusky pink wrap effect dress.
Love anything dusky pink! And is Tsarina worth sampling?
Thank you! Tsarina is interesting – nothing like the description on the website and hard to smell directly when I apply it but then I get a soft smell of lovely suedey elegance which I think must be a delicate iris. Very good for hard work days and for meetings where you want people to enjoy the smell without being able to be sure it’s you! Definitely worth sampling but do not expect the drama the website promises 🙂
Thanks for the description!
I am wearing Le Labo Vanille 44–the last drop of my sample.
My tea mug is empty at the moment.
How do you find it? Full bottle worthy?
I like it very much, but I like other dry vanillas as well, so for the price, no. It took me more than a year to finish my sample, but I do not reach for vanillas often. If I were to hand over the funds for a spendy vanilla, I would probably go for Aftelier Vanilla Smoke.
I also like Vanilla..what is Vanilla Smoke like?
Wood smoke, booze, and dry vanilla with a tiny hint of spices. A perfect winter evening in a snowed in cabin in a bottle. It is more woody-smokey at first but becomes a close to the skin vanilla-spice-wood scent.
I’m in Bulgari Omnia, which supposedly smells like chai tea and white chocolate but it doesn’t bear any traces of classical perfumery because I swear I can’t pick out one single note from the composition; it’s a warm, complex, multifaceted glow. I love it so much.
I never got chai tea from it either — but it’s so perfect. Ridiculous that the flankers sell better.
Very ridiculous, because not one of them is nearly as good. I’m sure they have their fans but the original is just a kind of magic.
I love Omnia, too, but I do get a chai tea feel for it. It’s a fall favorite of mine, it just smells right then. The only other Omnia flanker I like is the Coral, bright and juicy for summer.
+1 on the Bvlgari Coral for summer!
Biting my tongue about Bob Dylan’s singing abilities 😉 but giving him kudos for his songwriting skills.
Wearing TC Early Roses again, and helping Bookworm pack up her stuff for her trip back to college for the summer session. GAH I miss her when she’s gone!
I’m not a Dylan fan either, but can appreciate his musical skills, I reckon! 🙂
You will have to bite your tongue or I will disemvowel your comment 😉
j/k, sort of. And now wondering if anybody still disemvowels comments? Haven’t seen it in years.
I have never seen that, but I must introduce it into a conversation now and then! Excellent!
WAY back in the day that was a thing! I have not seen that nowadays.
LOL!! Since I can’t carry a tune in a bucket….who I am to judge the much loved Mr. Dylan?? Rock on, Bob!!! 🙂
I heard somewhere along the line that Dylan has perfect pitch. I’ve always found that a tiny bit ironic. 🙂 I DO love his lyrics though – they flow amazingly.
HOW COULD ANYONE TELL IF HE HAD PERFECT PITCH HOW HOW???
Ahem. Biting my tongue again. But yes, I admire and enjoy his lyrics.
THIS.
(Hiding behind mals as Robin chucks thunderbolts at us)
Guys. Really.
I really love a lot of Bob Dylan’s music, but I saw him live a few years ago, and besides looking like he was hiding under his clothes (you could barely see him under there–he could have been anybody), I’m pretty sure he didn’t know the words to his songs. I think I’ll stick with the studio versions of his music.
Same here re: Dylan. My husband, huge fan, doesn’t want to hear it.
We actually saw him perform live a few years ago and he still sounds pretty good for his age and for that voice.
Great talent, writing-wise…
How is TC early roses ?
I love it. It’s an almost-jammy (not quite) rose with quiet woods and amber. Other reviews on Fragrantica downplay the amber, but it is very noticeable to me. (OTOH, I do love Alahine, and this is a much smaller amount of that kind of amber, so I like it.)
Longtime Dylan fan. I’ll always love him as the voice of my past.
Same here.
I cannot appreciate his songwriting skills because his singing is SO BAD. On a related (though much, much less extreme) note, I greatly prefer the soundtrack to Across the Universe to the Beatles’ originals. Having a sharp ear is not always a blessing.
(Also, “disemvowel” is just wonderful. I can’t believe I’ve never seen that before!)
Ha, you may see it on your own comment before the day is out. I told you guys not to rag on Dylan!
Don’t bite your tongue. My husband has learned to switch the radio, even if it means listening to commercials, to avoid hearing my thoughts on Dylan’s singing talent.
I’m only biting my tongue for Robin’s sake. 😉
You smell great.
I have sampled Early Roses twice now I think…it is lovely.
It really is nice.
Early Roses is lovely. (And I don’t like Alahine. sorry not sorry)
Oh well. 🙂
SOTD is Heure Exquise. I don’t think I need to say anything about this, it remains my most loved one.
Gorgeous! How can you explain a masterpiece? 😉
You can’t, and it is such an approachable masterpiece.
A recently discovered love.
Wonderful stuff.
I just got a FB of this, with the box signed by Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen and the little tag around the neck signed by Camille. Good stuff!
Another hectic day in the office. I’m in South Bay by TDC.
Luckily we’ve got a short week ( 1/2 WFH day Friday!) and long weekend.
Do you like it? I’ve only smelled it in passing and don’t remember much.
Love it. Very citrusy and easy to wear. I’ll be reaching for it a lot this summer. It’s mostly grapefruit and woods. It’s very subtle, but does last a lot longer than expected.
Thanks! I’ll check it out next time I’m at the counter.
I’m very curious about Mugler Cologne (and still need to smell Les Exceptions), it sounds great.
Wearing Iris Nazarena today.
How’s the staying power of Iris Nazarena? I find irises don’t last beyond 4 hours on me. Either way, I haven’t yet met an iris I dind’t like…
It’s not the most tenacious perfume ever, I have to admit. Definitely not as bad as La Pausa and it doesn’t disappear entirely, but stays close to the skin after a few hours.
If you like iris and haven’t tried it, I definitely recommend testing it, no matter the staying power (I’d be happy to send you a sample).
You smell gorgeous. I really want a FB of this.
Thanks, it really is a great everyday iris. I find it extremely easy to wear and am very happy with my bottle (which is gorgeous as well).
Have you never tried Mugler Cologne?
Never. I know, it’s scandalous!
I’ve got a bottle, just saying 😉
Staying with the Morillas perfume collection theme today…..
SOTD: Daisy. Never a mistake; it works anywhere and everywhere…..
Random thought: It occurred to me yesterday, when I was wearing Versace Versence, that it dries down EXACTLY like Omnia Paraiba, at least to my nose. Maybe it’s a signature “Morillas Drydown”?? 🙂
The drydown of Paraiba reminded me of Daisy, so I think you may be onto something there, at least with some of his creations – a “blond woods/musk/benzoin” sort of thing. I like it. It’s not unique, but it’s quiet and pleasant.
What I don’t understand is why Bobs birthday isn’t a national holiday.
SOTD Christopher Street – a nod to Bob????
Exactly!!
I’m with you!
You smell awesome. That’s a great scent.
Getting ready for a dr. Appt. bleh, and still stormy here. Think I’m gonna wear some of my sample of Penhaligon’s Tralala. Smooth boozy saffron and violet, with an insence dry down. if only it didn’t have that off note, something musty I can’t pin down I would have gotten a bottle, but I wimbled and now it’s discontinued. Funny thing, and I’m kinda surprised not to see anyone else make this connection in all the reviews if read. When I first heard the name, I immediately thought of the Labyrinth movie, and David Bowies character ” nothing nothing tralala”. And when I smelled it I thought, yep this is something the Goblin King would be wearing in the ballroom scene. Decadent, slightly decayed. Maybe it’s cause I’m a huge Jim Henson fan.
I really love this! You smell
Very intriguing. I don’t know the film, but will check it out.
Thanks! 🙂 Labyrinth is very eighties, but the special and practical effects are incredible given the date it was made, I prefer puppets to cg in most any instance. It’s a good Saturday afternoon flic. And you get to hear David Bowie sing a lot.
Oh, now I have to try it! My stepsister and I wore out our VHS copy of Labyrinth (which gives a hint to how old I am 🙂 ).
Lol, I actually had never seen the whole thing until I was in college, I had fought bits and pieces on the tv growing up. Last year I got a box set of the novelizations of three Henson movies, which included Labyrinth, recently reprinted. If you can find it on amazon I highly recommend getting, if your a fan. I do like the fragrance, just wasn’t over the moon enough to grab one, and it was a little on the pricey side even for a Penhaligon’s. In the dry down right now, on clothes it still has that smooth saffron violet cocktail vibe, on my skin it’s a softer warmer vanilla velvet, and maybe leather? I’m unfamiliar with that note, need to sample some other leathers to compare. You can still get samples and decants at the Perfumed Court. 🙂
One of my favorite movies from my childhood! I know what I am doing tonight while cleaning!
Just be careful, I also loved this movie as a kid, but I tried to revisit it, and could not recognize it in a clunky akward thing.
Dang. Now I want to smell Tralala and watch Labyrinth, neither of which I can do at the moment. Jareth (and subsequently Bowie), was my second crush after Fred Astaire. Actually, a mashup of the two would be about perfect. I seem to like lanky men who can sing and dance, walk on walls, and look debonair even in a feathered cape. Don’t tell my husband 😉
The idea of some kind of Bowie-Astaire hybrid might be giving me the vapors.
I loved Labyrinth when I was a teenager (and still like it), but did think I’d have preferred David Bowie over an annoying younger brother 🙂
Sampling Doucer Brulee by unknown, because it does not say on the label, and I found this sample while rummaging through my samples to find Lann-Ael for Sun Mi (no luck yet, but I have gone through only 1/3 of my samples). It is quite realistic krem brulee, or burnt sugar; it’s nice and yummy, but I somehow am getting bored with it. I have O’Driu Pathetiqie decant with me, and can’t wait until my current perfume dies down, so I can apply Pathetique which I am in love with.
Just googled it, it is, apparently, by Parfums by Terri. I don’t have any recollection of ordering it, but, apparently, I did.
Today I’m surprisingly wearing Guerrilla 2 from CdG. I bought a bottle way back when I fell down the rabbit hole, would probably not do so today because I don’t actually wear it much.
It’s the easier of the two in the series, and kind of smells like raspberries, plastic and chewing gum or something on a clean musky-ish base, a bit muddled. Feels red but makes me want to wear black.
Nearly forgot those existed!
Almost forgot I had a bottle 😀
Taking my daughter to the doctor today. She has ASD and was progressing well, I think. For about two months now, though, she seems to have regressed. She will be 13 next month, so I wonder if this is hormone related? Hopefully, the doctor can help. SOTD TM Alien Liquor. ( not very office appropriate, I know)
I hope there’ll be good news. And you’d be welcome in my office wearing Alien Liquor. Hugs!
Fingers crossed! Best of luck!
Best of luck
Good luck, hope all goes well.
Thanks everyone! as it turned out, the only thing they could do today was blood work and such. So now just waiting for results to see where to begin again.
At least you were wearing a great perfume.
aww thanks! the story of my life is ” at least I smell good” 🙂
Happy Birthday Bob!!
Popping in quickly from work and wearing the beautamous SL Chergui!
Have great day all✌
Parfum de Therese from my teeny tiny, almost empty, decant. If only I weren’t on a buying freeze right now (new mortgages will have that effect).
Yes they will! Enjoy the PdT while it lasts 🙂
SOTD is Le Temps d’Une Fete. I got out my backup bottle, which is the taller rectangular one, just because I didn’t want to wait any longer to spray it. My first bottle is of the small size, and sometimes it’s just not as satisfying to spray from, you know? Not that I don’t totally appreciate lines that sell smaller-sized bottles!
I need to try this one! I love the notes and I much of what she creates.
Although her little ones at least have decent sprayers, but I totally get your point. I just got a small – and really expensive – perfume from MiN and although it looks cool and smells awesome (Long Board) the sprayer sucks. Teeny tiny and it gets stuck between sprays. Oof.
Yes, I love that about PdN – you can buy 30 mls of something and not feel bad about yourself (saving money! and space!). Temps d’Une Fete is one of the greats and totally gorgeous.
You smell lovely!
Love love love LTd’F. And small sizes!
SOTD is Chanel Misia.
Green iced tea at the moment.
Yum.
That tea sounds fabulous!
SOTD for me is Bottega Venetta.. easy, breezy… and oh, so lovely.
Me: coffee & cream, 2nd cup 😉
BV – perfect!
Yum
Oh so lovely indeed! How was tha Texas BBQ?
I’m at a loose end this week, having checked that I don’t have a single perfume by Morillas. Not a single one. I didn’t think I had any such glaring omissions in my collection up until now. I found an empty vial of Iris Prima, which was alright but I didn’t like it enough to buy it.
So I’m in Tauer Une Rose Chypree today, which I love and hate in equal measure. I mean, I love the rose and the chypriness and the spice. But I do, do dislike the sharp woody note that all of Tauer’s perfumes seem to have. I’m too sensitive to it. Sigh. Does anyone else have the same sensitivity? I wonder if it’s one particular ingredient that’s doing it…
A lot of them make me nauseous, this one amongst them. It’s sad as I like and own Phi and Rose Flash, but now the latter too has a negative effect. And almost all the other ones people love. I’d love to know what the culprit is, just for science.
What’s the form of your sensitivity?
Well, I’m not allergic to anything, but after a while I can smell nothing else, apart from this one dry woody sharp note, a bit like – maybe – pine sap? And and Incense Rose seems to consist solely of this note, after the slight initial whiff of rose.
I don’t have Rose flash, but I’ve tried PHI and it’s the same.
I like URC very much, but hated Incense Rose with a passion. There’s this acrid, wet-wood-ash thing that rasps in my throat. Rose Flash doesn’t do it, and neither does URV; haven’t tried PHI.
Incense Rose has a similar effect on me: it basically chokes me and I can’t smell anything else. It’s kind of like being drowned in burning paint thinner.
I love and own PHI, but very, very rarely, it triggers the same sensation
Same like URC alot, but cannot stand Incense Rose. I also don’t know which note puts me off, but wet, wood ash thing sounds about right!
The only Morillas I have is a sample of the Kenzo, which I’ll pull out on Friday. I had a sample set from Tauer that included Une Rose Chypre, but I couldn’t handle it. I waited 45 minutes and had to scrub. Not sure why… It just set off a reaction that was oddly wheezy… It found a new home, so all is good.
I thought Kenzo too, but I only found an old vial of Kenzo Jungle Elephant and seem to have lost everything else! Maybe I’ll wear Jungle Elephant for Friday. It’s the smell of the 90s to me. I’ll put my hair up in a pony tail and wear baggy trousers and sparkly lip gloss. (Maybe not that last one, still have to go to work after all…)
Yes, tippie, I think I have the same sensitivity you describe: that sharp woody note appears almost immediately and overwhelms all the other notes. (And then lasts and lasts…) I can’t speak for Une Rose Chypree or many other Tauers, but I know it’s there in Lonesome Rider. I also get it from SSS Jour Ensoleille and La Curie Ossuary.
Guerlain Rose Nacrée Du Désert. I got samples a while back of all three in the Déserts d’Orient series, and I never remember what any of them smell like (or I remember, but can’t remember which is which), but I always like them when I wear them.
This one’s nice, but there are enough other rose scents that stand out in my mind more. Encens Mythique d’Orient, however, might end up in my collection one of these days. Either that or Gourmand Coquin, but goodness knows I can’t justify paying for both.
I adore Une Rose Nacrée du Désert. It’s at the very top of my wishlist. I haven’t tried the other two, I believe, and I don’t think I will. Too expensive.
I had to make a hard decision between Rose Nacrée du Désert and Encens Mythique d’Orient last year, and the Encens won, but Rose is top of the list for next time I get to a country where it’s available. You’ve inspired me to wear Encens today!
SOTD is my most precious and cherished small decant of the tragically discontinued L’AP Orchidee Blanche. I wish I had sprung on a full bottle when this was still around. It is just so perfectly lovely. I think L’AP has more beautiful discontinued fragrances than any other fragrance house. I am also thinking of Jour de Fete….Jacinthe des Bois….I could go on.
More beautiful discontinued fragrances than any other fragrance house… how sad! What is wrong with them?!?
I’d love to try some of these 🙁
Jour de Fete has also been on my mind. I finished a decant and long for more.
La Haie Fleurie du Hameau, the daffodil one, Vanilia…
I really wish I could have tried Jacinthe de Bois, but it was before my time.
That dress! Dylan was one beautiful cool young man. And I am extremely happy he’s still with us. There was a tweet after Bowie and then Prince died ‘somebody go check on Madonna.’ Fine, but check Dylan and Iggy Pop first. (I know I am mixing eras of musical primacy, which was part of the tweet’s dark humor, but I still say, prioritize!)
No perfume yet and may sample somethings with a small box of goodies I have either me. Entertainment for a rainy off day.
Wow that last sentence got garbled. But you get the gist! Typing on my phone while tired.
I got the gist! And agree, check Dylan. I suspect Madonna will live forever. (Iggy Pop, hey, no meanness intended but surprised he’s still chugging along.)
A friend of mine uses the signature line to say: “Sent from my mobile phone. Apologies for any typ0s.” Yes, it does by design include the typo of 0 instead of o.
I grin every time I see it.
SOTD is Rhubarbe Ecalarte. I like the bubbly opening so much that the quiet musk of the rest of it is fine.
I’m at a meeting in Miami and yesterday ran over to the Bal Harbor Shops because a lot of sales started early. It’s pricey stuff, but you can sometimes find a great buy.
But…. I got distracted because there are amazing sniffing opportunities in a relatively small area! The little Saks had all the new Prada infusions. The Infusion d’Amande is light and milky and reminds me of marzipan without being overly sweet. There was also a Malle boutique. I sprayed Monsieur which I really enjoyed for hours. They had AG as well and many if the other lines Saks would carry.
There is a SMN in the center. Francesca was fabulous and led me through a personal sniffing journey with history. I visited the new Diptyque, by which time I needed to grow another arm. So, I’m not sure where Boy at Chanel landed, but it had less lavender than I expected with more blended floral and sandalwood.
Finally, Neiman had more, including Memo. Lalibela Oud was new for me. Sweet opening but gorgeous floral woodsy dry down.
Thanks a lot Wendysue….now I am hankering for the Infusion D’Amande…light, milky marzipan is right up my alley 🙂
What a great time! I’m curious about the Infusion d’Amande myself. I like milky almond, as long as it isn’t too sweet.
I’m in trouble on the Rhubarb. Was wi my husband and he sniffed it… He’s hinting he wants it.
That’s good trouble. I tried Aqua Vitae Forte on my husband under protest, but then he didn’t mind it and of course, didn’t mind my complimenting him at all ????.
That’s a really great unisex fragrance. I was surprised by how much I liked it.
Oh that is a great perfume shopping mall. There is also a fabulous shop downtown in Miami beach that has a lot of great stuff, from Amouage to MKK to Olfactive Studios. I think it’s called Babalu and its practically in a parking garage, so totally easy to pass over if you don’t take a good look. But perhaps you have work to do!
I am hoping to get there before I leave. Thanks?
Wow! Nice amount of new stuff you got to try. Thanks for the filling us in a bit..
Slumberhouse Vikt mingling with Tokyo Milk Clove Cigarettes lip balm.
SOTD is Jour d’Hermes (the original one).
I’m back in Kyoto today. The rain has finally stopped and the sun should come out this afternoon.
Happy Tuesday Everyone! Last few weeks of school is always a crazy mess! Didn’t get to comment yesterday because I was sooo busy, so I am escaping for a few seconds this morning to do so. My SOTD is Pulp by Byredo. Hoping it gives me all the strength I need to make it through this loooonnnnggg day! 🙂
Found a mini of EL Pleasures (by Morillas) so that’s what I’m wearing this morning. Not my favorite, though – its pretty but almost aggressively clean (or sharp, maybe metallic or something). May switch to something else later.
Roses de Chloe today, because it’s easy.
I had the weirdest dream last night: I was at a perfume convention, in the dealers room, with all the perfumers in the world. There was so much perfume in the air I couldn’t smell a thing. I was trying to get samples to take outside so that I’d have a chance of smelling them, but no one would give me any! The SAs all said they didn’t have any, and looked at me like I was asking for their first-born child! 🙂 There was a room where you could play poker for perfume bottles, and I was looking for some Obsession, because I’ve never smelled it on me. The only perfume I could smell was Poison, and it smelled like watered down grape Kool-Aid.
I have to stop reading perfume blogs before bed. . .
Haha! Yes, you’ve definitely crossed over to the dark side when you have dreams like this. Too funny. Unfortunately and sadly, the SAs claiming they had no samples too often not a dream but reality.
The most disturbing part of the dream was that I couldn’t smell anything. . . .
Do you normally smell in your dreams ? I do, it’s strange because if it’s a bad dream, it comes along with unpleasant smells and vice versa.
Only when it’s part of the story, so to speak.
So true. I shop enough to know which drawers they keep the samples in, and they always pretend to look around in the other drawers and say they don’t have any. I can’t stand it.
Cuir d’Ange, because it’s helping me remember that we all have angelic qualities. 😉
You smell lovely.
Raining here earlier. About to meet a friend at a barbecue place for lunch. Am in Ta’if (lotion and EdP) because the weather made me want something lush.
Where is ‘here’? Are you traveling?
No, rain early in NYC. It ended up being a 5 hour lunch….just chattering the whole time.
I’m still in Lilac Heaven today and have no desire to go elsewhere. The day is warm, the windows are open, and their spicy sweet fragrance gently wafts through my home. I’m wearing Pacifica French Lilac and it’s difficult to tell where my lilacs end and I begin.
Nice! have you tried the soap version? Scents up the shower in such a beautiful way!
No, I haven’t. I have a bottle of the YR Pur Desir de Lilas shower gel (and body lotion) plus a bottle of the YR Breton Lilac from their Jardin line, so, for the foreseeable future, my b&b lilac needs are taken care of.
You are reminding me it is almost time for my annual Blanc Lilas soap purchase….
What a gorgeous experience! I love lilac bushes, and someday I’m going to talk my husband into letting me buy one. (He keeps saying, “Debbie [our neighbor] says you can get a start off hers any time you want,” which disregards the fact that neither Debbie nor I actually know how to do that.)
Well, if he keeps up that attitude (!) you and Debbie may have to consult Mister Google for the information.
You smell great, scent sibling! (I’m in Malibu Lemon Blossom today.)
I passed by a gorgeous lilac bush here in Montreal today and just stood there inhaling for a couple of minutes. It was heavenly.
Rushing out this AM I forgot perfume and my work and personal phones. I did manage to remember clothing. I’m in a smidge of Chypre Mousse from a sample I had stashed in my bag from my Twisted Lily outing last weekend. This stuff is addictive!
Glad you remembered clothes! 😉
I have mornings like that as well, and I’ll literally look down at myself as I’m running to the train to make sure I’m put together and fully dressed.
At least you smell wonderful!
Ha! Thanks. I had to go home and get my phones and then had a hard time leaving.
Always nice when a chypre comes to the rescue!
Chypre are so nice
Happy Tuesday!
1) Bob Dylan- great songs, strange voice.
2) End of month foolish- ARGH! I have today and tomorrow to get everything done, because we are off for 5 days!
3) In Chanel Eau Premiere- very focusing!
RE: No 1- In my youth I thought so too…(strange voice)….thought the same about Tom Petty and didn’t quite appreciate his music at all…but now I am revisiting TP & the HB CDs and really enjoying the sound and the music…I guess my taste has changed over the years! I should probably revisit Dylan as well….
I decided to go with Bvlgari Black today so it’s not an Alberto Morillas week for me. He has a lot of Bvlgaris to his credit but not the 2 FB in my collection (Black and Man in Black).
Continuing a comment from yesterday….what do aldehydes smell like to you? For me, aldehydes don’t smell of anything but give the effect of champagne bubbles.
Starched linen before the bubbles.
Yes, yes, yes. The smell of old school ironed, starched in the wash linen.
Depending on what other notes are in the perfume, aldehydes usually smell like soap or industrial cleaner. It’s nice when it’s the soap, but annoying when its the industrial cleaner.
Want to shout out to you re: Aromaflage. I asked about it with some friends who live in Greater Savannah (it’s all wetlands and estuary waters, prime mosquito country). They have bought the candles and scent, and said while they enjoy the scent, they thought that Avon Skin So Soft original and the bug deterrent products smelled just as nice and were more effective?
Thanks! I ended up ordering Skin So Soft and the bug repellants from Avon online.
I never get “soap” out of aldehydes (that would be orange blossom 🙁 ), but I do often get whiffs of cold air, powder, and (yes!) starched linen along with the fizz.
I get 3 different effects from perfume aldehydes: lots of soap, sparkling or ozonic, and starched fabric, which lies between the two extremes of soapy and sparkling. Don’t like soapy in the slightest.
I reaaaly don’t like soapy either. Oof. That’s what I get from the aldehyde overdose in No 5. It’s like, “Ugh, stop ruining the pretty flowers!”
I agree on the champagne bubbles.
Thanks all, for your comments! The ironed short smell to me is what I think musk smells like. Perfumes that have musk or what I think is musk include Chergui, Coromandel and Tihota.
SOTD Kenzo Summer by Alberto Morillas. Glad this Friday exercise invited me to put it on again. It is a bright, mimosa summer concoction that manages to be soft (milky), clear (bergamot), light and summery (mimosa, musk) and somewhat oriental (Amber and wood). As you spray it on it seems to be a clean scent but as it develops into a skin scent it is enchanting.
Tabac Tabou today, which I think someone wore yesterday? Something made me think of it, anyway. My cold is still hanging around and I let it tell me to sleep in till 10AM today (soooooo glad the summer is over). TT is coming through very clearly, though! It’s pretty nice in the warm, sunny weather.
I showered this morning with Black Cashmere gel and thought that La Liturgie des Heures would pair well with it, and it does. Today I am pretty frustrated trying to find affordable living room curtains. Two different sets from two different manufacturers both had patterns that did not line up when the panels were hung side-by-side. Who would sell curtains like this?
Going to play some Bob Dylan to cheer me up. The man is a master lyricist even if his vocal tone is awfully nasal. Sometimes I wonder if he is putting us all on, and in private moments sings in a lovely baritone.
Rumour has it he sounds like Pavarotti when he’s singing in the shower
LOL!
If only there were a Bob Dylan equivalent to Leonard Cohen’s Ancient Resins. I’m guessing it would be less meditative/Buddhist and smell a little more of the city. I’ll put on Miller Harris Petite Rien over some monoi oil and see if that’s a fitting tribute.
Yes!! Mandy should do one for him whether he wants it or not. He probably doesn’t.
He probably does not, it’s true.
Sampling Ta’if today…
Rose, saffron and powder…very nice.
Love that one.
After scrubbing off Songes (tried it and don’t like it), I am sitting in Courtesan. Yep, I still don’t like tuberose.
Glad to know I’m not the only one Songes doesn’t work for. I really dislike it.????
I’m with you both on Songes.
Thankful for a half day of work today, and wearing Fille en Aiguilles. I think most people think of this as a winter scent, what with the pine and incense, but I really love it in the heat. It reminds me of vacations spent in pine forests.
Morning, all. I share Bob Dylan’s birthday, and I wish I had an eighth oh his talent. In spite of the fact I spent most of it writing a report on a pretty bad thesis, I had a happy birthday: I hope his is even better.
Today the dear man and I are driving up home to Northland and the dentist, so I’m out of Auckland again–eggzellent!–and will, better still, be able to visit my favourite store on the planet, and maybe buy something pretty as an extended birthday present. We’re rather fond of extending birthdays in our house: a single day is just not enough celebration! So, SOTD is the quietly pretty, quietly present Bel Respiro. Won’t make my dear dentist’s eyes water, won’t leave traces on any clothes I might try on, won’t distract the dear one in his driving, but totally pleases me. Win!
Hey, be safe and well and happy in all that you do, NST. You smell divine, every one of you!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day.
Oh, thank you! It was yesterday for me, of course, but I’m such a child inside that the birthday beat starts early and lasts as long as I can make it!
Happy (Belated/Extended) Birthday! Have a great day!
Happy happy birthday!
Happy birthday! Extended birthdays are what it’s all about. My husband and I have birthdays very close together so usually manage to stretch ours out to a solid week and a half, which I highly recommend.
I think that with a little effort, I could extend mine until Richard has his in early July! Thank you for the thought…inspirational!
A very happy birthday to you!
Happy extended/belated birthday, Waterdragon!
Happy extended birthday, Waterdragon!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthdays Waterdragon!
Happy birthday Waterdragon. I hope the sun shines brightly on you and you have a very , very happy year ahead. I also hope you have cake! Enjoy your extended birthday. Lots of love.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday to you! We do birthday weeks at my house, one day is totally insufficient.
Happy Birthday, waterdragon! Every perfume purchased during my birthday MONTH gets special dispensation from Donatella 😉
So today is probably the last day of spring I can get away with Chanel Coromandel. I think it is a lovely perfume but I find it a tad too sweet and maybe a little bit cloying. It is really too well balanced to be a patchouli bomb which is what I was hoping for. I honestly think it is just too well behaved for me but I am so glad I got to try it.
Another day off and awash in Narciso.
I think Narciso is beautifully addicting.
Love Narciso, on its day, in its moment! Not for every day, but when it has its day, it’s perfect! You smell fabulous!
I went with Tea for Two today.
Re Bob Dylan: ‘All Along the Watchtower’ is one of the best songs ever written. (And super-awesome in the role it plays in a certain kick-ass sci-fi show. All hail Ron Moore and Bear McCreary!)
SOTD is Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom. Happiness and summertime in a bottle.
Gimme the Hendrix version any (every) day 🙂
agreed.
Oh, totally! I’m with you on that. I just love what Bear McCreary did with it. The body of music he did for BSG is nothing short of genius. (And the BSG folks even used the Hendrix version too.)
Cruisin’ down the Pacific Coast highway in a mustang convertible, salty sea spray in the air, that’s Malibu Lemon Blossom!
Yes!!! (Or a VW van, windows rolled down and surf boards on the roof.)
Ohh! How I miss BSG! Plenty great music!
Work is burying me.
And one of the more annoying things about it is that I don’t even get time for NST. Boo Hiss!
Just finished 5 hours of meetings (starting at 7am my time). At least I’m calling in from home in my sweats.
No SOTD yet (see, told you work was bad). Maybe after I finish wolfing my lunch, before the next meeting starts.
That sounds grim, hope it eases up soon. SOTD Sycomore for me.
5 hours!!!
Wearing Creed’s Fleur de Gardenias, which, applied freely this time, is very pleasant. The “pour half the sample all over me” method is an effective testing option for larger samples without sprayer. 🙂
Work continues to be work. I am learning about stuff I didn’t expect to learn. I feel that I could be a much more effective manager of people after watching these several years of sad, bad, and mad managers wreak various sorts of psychological havoc with the people who work here…
Now I am going to go home and plant my pepper plants in my garden. 🙂
FM Vetiver today. Lovely, but like the Geranium gone very quickly. Wonder why they don’t last when I have no such problems with Fleur de Cassie, l’Eau de Hiver or Noir Epices.
Bob for president!
Listening to Desolation Row while thawing out my hands after this morning’s frosty walk. Wearing rahat loukoum and wondering if it’s too early for lunch at 9.45am?
Love that song!
Morning snack time is 10am here so I say go right ahead!
Ha ha. I need to move to Montreal
Overcast day and feeling sluggish, so I went with some simple but beautiful and uplifting — Yves Rocher Pur Desir de Gardenia.
I have one of the Altaias on my left arm (something like By Any Other Name?) and Amarys on my right arm. Unfortunately something in Amarys just gives me a headache and feels kind of shrill. It’s a real shame because I love the way it smells until the whole headache/nausea thing kicks in. This happens in like 70% of the fragrances I try and it’s so disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s a certain chemical, a particular note, or what – but it makes the perfume hobby difficult. 🙁
My bottle of vintage parfum sacre vaporisiteur finally arrived today. It’s been kind of a comedy of errors, the seller sent the wrong thing so I had to ask for a replacement. In any case the spray PS is gorgeous and has much more body/rose heft than the one they sent the first time, in the splash bottle (which I suspect became degraded from oxygen exposure because the rose notes had soured).
I’m finding that it goes on a little bit sharp and takes about 20 minutes to mellow down to rose/myrrh/incense but then it’s smooth sailing all the way. So happy I found the right one.
SOTE: vintage parfum sacre
Morillas #2 has been Bvlgari “BLV pour homme”. I thought it rather nondescript, but for my partner it triggered a very specific memory from his mis-spent youth. Apparently this smells like the cleaning produce used to wipe down the glass of the video games in the local amusement arcade in the 1980s.
Given that tomorrow’s Morillas #3 is another ruddy Penhaligons (and everything I’ve had from them so far has smelled like it should have come from Procter & Gamble) things are not looking good for Mr Morillas chez Koenigsberg… :^)
I will list my personal list of Alberto’s greatest hits for these are some of his nicest works and I am happy to own them and wear them. Bvlgari Omnia, an influential lactonic almond saffron, CK One, my favorite perfume to wear while mowing the lawn. I keep it in the fridge to enjoy it’s refreshing citrus. Calvin Klein Truth, which is a gorgeous floral oriental. One of the most universally pleasing masculines ever, Armani Acqua de Gio, Givency Pi, a comforting benzoin fragrance and Mugler Cologne, which is just good clean fun. Alberto Morillas is something of an outlier in the fragrance world as he describes himself as mostly self trained.
Thanks, I shall check these out in Duty Free. I am mentally resistant to them as it feels like they’ve been around for ever – I think I can recall the ads for all bar Omnia and the Mugler from the nineties and noughties. But I don’t recall trying them, so my aversion is pure prejudice with a light dusting of snobbery. :^)
Gorgeous hot sunny day in Montreal, hard to believe it was snowing 10 days ago. I celebrated by wearing a ton of Nuit de Tubereuse.
Going to Adele´s concerto tonight and wondering what perfume sutis this wonderful singer… Black? Carnal Flower?
Suits not sutis…
