It's Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani's birthday! Plus, Hump Day, of course. What fragrance are you wearing?
My chypre week continues with vintage Hermès Calèche.
Reminder: 5/13 will be Chypre Friday. Wear a chypre fragrance of any sort — classic or modern or post-modern.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Valentino Spring 2015 campaign.
Douce Amère (Serge Lutens) 🙂
Yum! I will have to wear it next week.
Vintage Diorella extrait de parfum. Luca is right, this is better than Thérèse.
It is great stuff. I have a serious attachment to Thérèse though.
Me too, and I wear Thérèse far more often, mostly because I have only a very small bottle of Diorella parfum, but this is so good!
Therese is not for me, but this stuff is amazing.
That’s interesting; they are so close to me, that it seems almost impossible to like one and not the other.
What puts you off about Thérèse?
I will try it again, I think I have my 5 ml bottle here somewhere. But I wore it recently and had to scrub it off (this almost never happens to me) – somehow it just doesn’t come together on my skin, it’s a big mess and my brain cannot put it together into a coherent, beautiful whole.
The Diorella you gave me, on the other hand, I absolutely adored.
I love the back story but the fragrance did not work for me either. I have tested it maybe three or four times and each time I get “weird melon that you do not want to eat.”
I recently sniffed Diorella–now I wish I had Therese in my mind when I did. Frankly, I have absolutely no memory of the Diorella as I was sniffing many Diors at the time, but nothing stood out as melon in mothballs…Now I want to sniff them both again!
Mind you, I sent you a sample of EDT. I’ll let you smell the extrait as well at some point.
The melon that you do not want to eat, is to me the whole point of both Thérèse and Diorella. Someone wrote a great piece about the fact that it features decaying fruit. Have you ever tried Manoumalia?
Thankfully I don’t get the melon note from Thérèse. The melon note in Angel and Muguet Porcelaine are a big no go for me.
I recently had a similar reaction to a perfume that is nothing like Therese–Fruitchouli Flash. To me it is a stone fruit that has gone off… not rotten exactly, but maybe has a tiny moldy brown spot tainting the fragrance.
I have not tried Manoumalia. I will when I get the chance. Its another “past the sell-by date” frag?
Very much so. I adore it, it seems like it’s from another universe, and takes the glorification of decay one step further.
There are great reviews of it on Bois de Jasmin and Grain de Musc and if you want to read how much March disliked it, she explained it in some detail on the Posse.
http://perfumeposse.com/2010/07/13/lesnez-manoumalia/
Oh boy, now I really need to try Diorella.
The current version is much cleaner, and doesn’t have that overripe fruit accord. Still worth smelling though.
Ylang 49
This is a chypre!
Feeling exhausted after baby Buddha didn’t sleep last night-
Even Buddha’s have their moment I suppose. Ylang 49 is good, I’ve got a small sample.
Well, Buddhas are the awakened ones . . .
Maybe little man is cutting a “toothfie” (That’s what we called them)….Both of you rest when you can today! 🙂
We are going to get him checked today. Though I think it’s just sleep regression
you smell great!
In honour of Chypre Week, Yvresse, one of the most frivolous chypres I have ever encountered. Pretty much the polar opposite of yesterday’s Aromatics Elixir.
You smell wonderful.
I really want to try Yvresse/Champagne, I adore a good old Fruity chypre, is the re formulated one any good, or is vintage the only way to go?
You really need the vintage, I’m afraid. Either Champagne or Yvresse in the wire-wrapped-cork bottle is what you’re looking for: Yvresse in the new house bottle, the stacked cubes, is just not as good.
Thanks Pyramus, Thats really useful to know, tho it makes trying before buying tricky. I will probably blind bid for it one of these days on eBay, I’m pretty sure I would love it from the notes I have read, I don’t often blind buy, but may end up being reckless for this one!
I have some vintage Yvresse; let me know if you would like a sample!
standingDawtarmsakimboAtGeeeemaleDawtCom
Thanks AnnE, that’s so kind of u! I will email u today, I’m in the UK, so I don’t know if you’re in U.S it might not be possible, but I’ll email u any way, and the kind offer is really appreciated!
I’m wearing 31, rue Cambon, which I haven’t worn for a while. I also tried out Bottega Veneta yesterday; I hadn’t liked it the first time, but it was more appealing on a second wearing (probably around 2 years later).
I have an odd request for a recommendation for…an electrician. (Not Fat Electrician, though I’ll try that at some point, I’m sure.) A friend of mine, who’s swamped at work, needs to have a new meter put in her house in Morrisville, PA in the next two weeks or PECO will shut off her electricity. I’m in Boston and trying to help her out. Any leads? Please email me at b.rex03 (that’s zero-three) at geemail.
You smell lovely!
Good luck finding an electrician
Twins today.
Two of my favorites.. 31 & BV. Smelling good!
You smell fab!
I reorganized my perfume cabinet and had to add a shelf! SOTD is Mohur extrait from the split meet; so delicious!
Yum!
Bill Blass Nude– a happy scent to go with a bright, sunny day. (NO clouds at all!)
I would kill for a bright sunny day. It is GLOOMY here.
I had to take a break from chypres to wear Velvet Gardenia from a decant that the wonderful Tippie has sent me. I still love it. Wearing a golden skirt to celebrate.
You smell amazing
you smell beautiful!
I concur – you smell wonderful!
You smell delicious. That is a LOVELY and wonderful scent.
You love it don’t you, and it suited today’s weather very well!
I’m in Lyric Woman today and possibly wafting a bit too much of it around the office. I guess my coworkers aren’t bothered by it because none of them have ever said anything.
Glad the week is almost over. It’s been crawling and being exhausted doesn’t help.
On a brighter note, I’ve been preoccupied with looking up trails to hike on my honeymoon, which is one month from today. Cannot wait to go back to the parks!
Sounds lovely! Where is your honeymoon.
Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. We’ve been there before and really liked it so we decided to go with someplace we knew we’d enjoy. This time, we have the money to stay in the parks so we don’t have to drive as far to get to the trails/attractions.
Those are terrific places for a honeymoon. As a teenager I had the privilege of being able to stay backcountry while working on a conservation team, and everyday was utterly beautiful.
You’re doing your coworkers a favor by wearing Lyric today. If someone comments, I suggest that you say “you’re welcome”. 🙂
A national park honeymoon sounds romantic and adventurous. I’d love to stay at Jellystone Park one day too.
I agree!
We love the parks. We’ve been to 8 of them (national) so far. We’re not really lounging at the beach/ tropical climate type of vacationers. I get bored too easily and I’m not a fan of hot weather. We’d rather be in the woods or hiking somewhere pretty.
I’d never heard of Jellystone before and it’s…. in my state?! May have to check that out.
Ha, ha… That’s how Yogi Bear (the cartoon) used to refer to Yellowstone park. 🙂
Oh my goodness, I feel so old…. 🙂
Love the reference to Jellystone Park, guess I’m old too!
The most beautiful national park that I’ve been to is Yosemite in the spring. The waterfalls were pounding because of the snow runoff from the surrounding mountains. I remember wanting to pinch myself because it felt surreal. I’d love to go back. Have you been?
Yes! I went in spring as well when the waterfalls were at their best. It is a gorgeous park. Not a bad sight anywhere.
Too much Lyric? No such thing. You and your your office smell soooo goood!
Thanks 🙂
Love this idea for a honeymoon.. nature does so much for my mind and body, which helps for a honeymoon too 😉
What a nice idea for a honeymoon! My sweetie and I used to work for the Park Service, me for years and years, so I’m afraid a national park honeymoon would feel too much like *work* to me. 🙂
Chypre of the day is Penhaligons’ “Quercus” which has realised all my worst fears – it’s another dishwasher rinse aid scent. At least I smell fresher than I feel – very muggy warm grey weather and a room where the aircon is stuck on ‘heat’. :^)
LOL at dishwasher rinse aid! Quercus was not what I hoped it would be either.
Vetiver Tonka is my SOTD today. I was very surprised to see this called a woody Chypre, I never would have thought of it that way though I’m also not sure what It should be characterized for but I do know I love it a lot and am happy to have it on.
Is it really? Excellent, I will wear it on Friday. SOTD Cologne a l’Italienne by Institut Tres Bien. It’s gorgeous – a hint of salt under the bitter orange.
Really? Wonderful, then I have another option for Friday as well!
Hi Gi! Congrats on winning the Le Prix Eau Faux! Nice to be a winner every now and then 😉
Thanks! I don’t get that winning feeling often, this has been the most exciting thing that’s happened to me this year! Haha, yes, that is a bit sad.
Not at all!, it is exciting, WellDone!
Not sad at all! I wish I wish could come up with stuff like that. And nice prize to match.
Your entry was hilarious, glad it won. They were all very clever.
Congrats! I loved it.
I’m wearing Rochas Eau de Cologne Femme. This is interesting because I can’t find any record of it in Perfume Intelligence. I know it is vintage because belonged to my grandmother who died in the 80s. She used to travel to Europe to see my uncle who worked for the WHO and was stationed in Switzerland. She always brought back perfume.
It’s not the eau de cologne concentration of Rochas Femme?
Testing vintage Scherrer parfum from a mini I had to MacGyver to close but it worked out! Any fans of the current version? I read on Victoria’s BdJ review that it’s comparable. The parfum is rather witchy, and I’m wondering if the edt or edp would be even more so.
The new smells much faker, to my nose, but it follows a similar idea.
Thanks!
Not a fan of the current one. But then, I love the “no holds barred” feeling of the original.
I’m bravely trying a new scent on a workday (gasp), Le Galion Iris, sent by the extremely kind and generous hajusuuri. I quite like it! Have never tried anything from Le Galion before and am impressed.
That’s brave, SheriG!
Aramis counts as a chypre, doesn’t it? It’s an oakmoss beast for sure. I am wearing literally one drop and feeling like a warrior princess. 🙂
Heading off to the antique store where there is an entire cabinet full of perfume waiting to be plundered. I’ve gotten so many treasures there– what will I find this time? Hmmmm…
Let us know if you find any buried treasure!
Oh mama, did I ever! At the first two stores I visited, I scored sprayers of Norell and YSL Paris EdTs (both full/boxed) and minis of Bijan Woman and Tuvache Jungle Gardenia. At Store #3, I didn’t see any perfume on display… but the owner had a super-secret stash in a back room. From him I scored full, boxed, MINT bottles of vintage Miss Dior and K de Krizia for only ten smackeroos apiece. Can I get an amen!
Aaaaamen, Sistah!!! Nice. Is the Norell vintage or the new stuff?
Vintage… crappy old school sprayer ‘n’ all!
Wow, very nice haul!
Thanks! I live for the hunt!
Absolutely a chypre! I think of it as the manly version of Jolie Madame.
I second that! What shall we name him? Jolie Monsieur?…. Jolie Man? Or (for surfers) Whoah, Jolie, Maaan! 😀
Arrrgh, I hope ye be successful with yer plunderin’!
See comment above. Yaarrrr, the pickin’s was ripe! 😀
Yessss, Aramis
I know you’ll find something wonderful and for significantly less money than out here on the West Coast. Is the amount of perfume available due to IFF being close by or is simply the population density?
I think it might be a little of both, but add to this a third element: the high percentage of senior citizens in our area. They consign all of these fabulous vintage finds– and because local antique stores require consigners to trade volunteer hours for shop space, you actually get to meet and talk to the people who owned, used, and loved the ‘fumes before you. 🙂
I hadn’t thought about senior citizens. I really have to head off to Victoria, BC to find the biggest percentage. I can see that talking to those who used yo wear the scents would be very special.
Saw your haul, above. Well done! A vintage Miss Dior for $10 — I’d have fainted on the spot.
Nearly did, I must confess. But I managed to keep a straight face.
I have an extended housecall later (massage for a whole family), so ditched the Chypre idea for today and spritzed on the En Passant that HJSuuri sent last swap meet. I figured it will fade by this afternoon and then after the clients I can put on some vintage Femme parfum for the evening. I have an deny weeny bottle of it. It’s a nice round, relaxing Chypre on me, no sharp edges!
wow how did the word deny get in there!?
But somehow “deny weeny bottle” seems like something we all need to say at some point!
You smell mahvalous in En Passant!
Haha! Thanks to the Haj (namaste, bow, prostration), I got about 20 mls of En Passant.
And the weeny bottle of Femme came from eBay – It didn’t have any packaging, so I think the seller mistook it for a mini when it was actually pure perfume.
En Passant is sooo lovely.
LOL, I’m glad you’re enjoying the En Passant!
Skipping scent for one more day…..headache yesterday morphed into a migraine (which is completely gone now!!), but I’m giving my senses a rest today! 🙂
Wearing a denim jacket in the office, that has a nice residual scent of something I wore last week, so there’s that….and using some “Some Like It Hot” white ginger walnut hand cream. So I’m not scent naked! LOL
SMELLY NEWS: Wow. Just got a phone call from Scent Trunk, asking me how I like their service, and asking for any ideas or suggestions I might have about making their subscription service better. WOW!! That impresses me!! We had a nice talk about scent….the caller was very familiar of NST and very complementary! 🙂 I highly recommend this company if you are into finding new scents to try…..
….familiar WITH NST….not OF…..Ugh! LOL
Heh, with the number of cats in the perfume community, it’s possible that there are many “familiars” around. Apparently part of their role is to act as domestic servants. They seem to get the spies and companions part right, but sadly have reversed the domestic servants part. 🙂
Chanel No. 19 EDT today. Happy Hump Day!
This one doesn’t last on me, just like No. 5 EDT does not either. How many sprays did you use?
No chypre for me today, though I’d plan to wear them the rest of the week. SOTD Bois d’Iles which called my name this morning.
Love that one
Mmmmmm. Have a safe trip to your niece’s graduation!
I’m wearing Agent Provocateur. I think I could do a whole week just of rose chypres.
You are inspiring me to dig out my sample
A 3.4 ounce bottle of this popped up at my local Marshalls too. I think it was under $30. I went back to find it a day later and someone scooped it up. You smell terrific, by the way! 🙂
Ooh, would love to hear your top 5!
Yep, me too. 🙂
For me: Knowing (though I can’t wear it), Aromatics Elixir (ditto), L’Arte di Gucci, Ungaro Diva, Olympic Orchids Ballets Rouges, MFK Lumiere Noire pf, maybe this Agent Provocateur. I bet Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection will be on Elisa’s list.
I LOVE RDP but don’t really think of it as a chypre! I think I’d have to go with:
Knowing
Paloma Picasso (EDP has more rose)
L’Arte di Gucci
Une Rose Chypree
So Pretty
But I almost never met a rose chypre I didn’t like.
I love Diva too.
Finally got round to dig out my chypres and I’ve chosen some vintage (!) Miss Dior edt. Now gotta find something for tomorrow and a line-up for Friday! So far wavering between Chypre Palatin and Mitsouko.
Wow vintage Miss Dior!
Serge Lutens La vierge de fer
you smell lovely.
This one doesn’t seem to get much love but I really like it.
I’m wearing Il Profumo Coquelicot today. Its classified as a chypre floral.
No chypre for me today either…running out the door for work and quickly sprayed one of my standbys, Chanel No. 19 Poudre.
After working the entire Mother’s day weekend and then some, I have a day off. Downside is that the guys are here doing more remodeling work on the kitchen. Getting cabinets hung, I think. I’m mostly avoiding the kitchen right now. Wearing Deneuve right now. I am loving this chypre week because I have so many.
Waking up late so I have a perfect reason to joing you Robin! I found a 200ml splash st an antique mall for $8 so I bought it blind. I have been very rewarded. Probably the most chic chypre I know.
(!!!)
Trying D600 today. I wrote out a list of my favorite chypres to choose from, and then I was in a rush (as usual) this morning and decided to wear something I had at work. I keep the Office Apropos pack in my drawer. Tomorrow and Friday I’m gonna slam on some serious chypres though for sure to make up for the rest of the week.
Lou Lou.
And then A la Nuit when I got home . . . eez fantastic for the late arvo. I hope I won’t tire of it until I empty the bottle 😀
Another LouLou fan? I thought it was just me and Lillyjo! So happy you’ve joined us.
I’m the 3rd, or 4th now. Loulou is great!
It’s sunny and supposed to hit 85F here today so I have broken out the Bronze Goddess for the first time this year. Much hotter than that and I break out the citrus or really light florals, as coconut notes and BWFs seem suffocating.
Le Labo Vanille 44. Have been noticing the citrus twist more lately, so it totally makes sense for warmer weather (/I just want to wear it all the time 🙂 ).
you smell great!
Second that!
I love Vanille 44! I’ll have to look for that citrus. Did you finally get a bottle?
Presently still working through two decants before I can really justify it (hence, spraying liberally!) but between the exchange rate and a willing perfume mule who’s currently making regular trips to Europe, I think I won’t be able to hold out much longer 🙂
SOTD is the modern Miss Dior EdP. I don’t know why I waited so long to try this scent but I super-like it. Acquired a mini with my Sephora points a few weeks ago and I have a feeling a FB may be in my future.
Exhausting week so I sprayed myself with as many sprays of Passage d’Enfer as I thought my coworkers could handle. Luckily or unluckly 🙂 it doesn’t last too long.
I wonder just how many they CAN handle? Might be worth finding out 😉
SOTD is Bigarade Concentrée, which is lasting longer than I remember (no complaints!). I always wonder if the Cologne Bigarade I often read about is the same or a different scent in the Malle range.
There are two different scents – one is a more concentrated version of the other.
Thanks!
Joining Elisa in Agent Provocateur today – using the last of my “Diamond Dust” sample. Nice stuff.
I’m finding the Valentino image sort of disturbing. The two girls lying down look like big dolls. Big dead dolls. Yikes.
In other news, Bookworm is on her way home from college! She’s only got two weeks before she goes back for summer session (she’s an RA again and has signed on to assist with a research project in her major)… but two weeks with the girl is way better than no weeks with the girl. 🙂
I wanted to offer again to send you a decant of Flowerhead. I had first offered when you mentioned the leak, but I think maybe you never saw my comment. I saw you mentioned wanting some again on yesterday’s post. If you’re interested let me know and I’ll give you my email.
Oh, how kind! My email is malsnano86 AT the geemayle, if you don’t mind messaging me… maybe I’ve got something you’d love to have, too.
I’m glad your daughter will be home soon and that enjoy your time together before she has to return to school.
I’m all happy happy. 😀 She’ll have another two weeks at the end of the summer session before the fall semester starts, so we’ll have that time too.
Hah! Big dead dolls. That made me laugh, but it actually seems like a recurring theme in the fashion industry …
I also thought “pretty corpses” when I saw that.
Jealous – I never got to try the Diamond Dust.
Had a HORRIBLE meeting at my son’s school yesterday and I am still traumatized. I am trying to decide whether I should send a formal complaint to the superintendent and the school board reporting an individual’s incompetence (and rudeness), but think I should go to the gym to blow off steam first. I immersed myself in a comforting cloud of Encre Noir last night and the experience bears repeating now!
An absurdly generous NSTer sent me some amazing samples earlier this week, and I am looking forward to trying FM’s Eau Magnolia for a fresh start this afternoon. It seems like the right fragrance for beginning again.
I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble with the school, and I’m sure you’re a wonderful advocate for your son. Good luck dealing with this going forward.
I’m so sorry to hear about your bad experience. I work at a school as the counselor and understand when frustration levels run high. I hope everything works in your favor, because there is no excuse for a staff member to be rude or unprofessional with a parent.
I wasn’t even frustrated, just really sad. I think am going to go over her head and file with OAH, AND I am going to send a complaint to her employer and the school board. But they may still not do anything and she will be there to bully and condescend to parents unchecked.
(For the most part, I find even in our over-worked and under-funded huge city school district most people work incredibly hard and are really dedicated to students. She is an exception!)
Ugh, I hate when that stuff happens and you feel more helpless when it is regarding your child. Just remember that it is one person who you understand is incompetent and rude – they have to live with being “that person”. This is when the perfume and the community of fragrance jumps in to reduce the stress levels so perspective can alter anxiety and anger. Good luck verbalizing this to the powers that be, Oakland Fresca.
You are right. Back from the gym, I am going to take a shower and then break into the Eau Magnolia. Its gonna be alright.
A calm, righteous person who smells delicious: you are THIS person. Tee hee.
I have a ways to go before I am in that position..but poor you and your poor son!
Sorry you’ve had such an awful experience with you’re sons school, how incredibly stressful. Hope the situation improves for you both
soon.
So sorry that you had to endure rudeness and incompetence. Fight back!
I’m wearing one of my favorite warm weather floral chypres, Guerlain Chant d’Arome. Very pretty, but maybe too soft – I think I’ll switch to Jubilation 25 when I get home from work.
Jubilation! Yes! I’ve been wondering what to wear, and you’ve inspired me. Ni have a meeting with the dean this morning, and Jub will be perfect. Thank you!
SOTD will be either Cartier Les Heures IV Fougueuse (which I love and is so unusual) or Daim Blonde which I was surprised to find was a floral chypre. What a treat either one will be.
It is hard to believe that our pool opens in a few weeks. Where has this year gone?
Chose Daim Blond and I am loving the cardamom in the opening – much more delicious than I remembered!
I’m wearing something maybe more suitable for cooler weather but I wore it anyway – SmellBent’s Fashiony.
Trying Jasmin Angelique as my obsession w/ jasmine right now continues…
It’s lovely and I can see the comparisons between it and Jasmin et Cigarette. I am going to have to do a side by side testing of the two.
I bought the sample set from Atelier’s website a while ago and this makes me want to revisit them. They are dabbers and I much prefer sprays. I feel like I can’t really fully smell and appreciate a fragrance until I’ve sprayed it.
Dabbers are better than nothing but that’s about it.
My SOTD is Safari. This is new to me; like it a lot!
I used to wear Safari years ago. I remember how much I used to enjoy it. Might have to revisit this one day soon.
You smell fantastic!
LOVE Safari.
Planning to wear that this week!
I finally broke down and bought a bottle (at a pretty good discount!), so I’m wearing Narciso again, which fills a surprising gap in my collection: pretty scents that are neither too demanding, nor too fancy.
I love to keep it in the office, as the bottle also looks great on the desk.
I loved the scent when it first came out but never ran to buy it. Just found it discounted and so bought it and also Alaia Paris (blind buy)…waiting for them to arrive. You smell delicious.
Taking a small break from the loads of work I’ve been under for a few weeks now. Miss you all!
I’m wearing Balenciaga Paris, which I’m learning is more of a green violette than a powdery violette which I don’t care for. I like how it smells on a Spring day where the temps are in the high 50s-low 60s. Wouldn’t mind a small bottle of this in the near future. It’s an easy, no-brainer of a scent for me.
You smell lovely! I hope the work situation improves.
Ditto! Balenciaga Paris is in my regular rotation late fall early spring. (I am definitely one who matches my fragrance to the seasons).
It really adds so much to my enjoyment of the seasons!
Thank you, Annikky. I work in the conference world (at least for now) and so spring & fall are big ol’ monster seasons for me.
More perfume helps!
Welcome back!
Did I ever mention that discounter on 30th st 😉 ? They might have a small bottle for cheap.
Oh, please let me know! I’d like to check it out.
30th bet 5th and 6th on the south side of the street. I don’t even know the name of the place and I’ve been there more times than I care to admit. It only has perfume (there are other places on the same block that have other stuff besides perfume).
Good Morning to all the NST community! First time this week that I’m getting an opportunity to join in. Today is my birthday and haven’t had an opportunity to enjoy it yet. Our students have been taking the state mandated test this week, so it has been long days and nights at my school. My SOTD is my all-time favorite; JM’s Nectarine Blossom and Honey. If I have to work and work late on my birthday, at least I can smell good doing so. Happy “hump” day everyone! 🙂
Happy Birthday!! You smell lovely! 🙂
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! I hopy you can celebrate this weekend!
Happy Birthday!
Happy B day! You will celebrate on the weekend with something wonderful!
Happy Birthday!, I have a sample of Nectarine blossom and Honey, I must have a rummage and find it, I bet you smell incredibly pretty!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday! Hope you get a chance to celebrate properly.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! ????
Happy birthday, birthday twin!
Oh well then, Happy Birthday to you, too, Petrichor! ????
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Thanks Everyone! I appreciate it!
Only my perfume friends could understand how I looked at my fragrance drawer yesterday and declared “I have nothing to wear”! I found my way to TJ Maxx after work and scored a full size bottle of Si Lolita edt for $15. I have a mini of the edp which I enjoyed wearing this past fall. The edt is much lighter and perfect for spring. It satisfies my new fragrance craving and the bottle is adorable. 🙂
Yes, and shame on me! I already say this with regards to my clothes closet and now with my fragrance draw.
I need time to go thru stuff and find some of those gems I never wear.
Nice score on Si Lolita!
I do it with clothing too…but that seems more reasonable to an “outsider” 😉
Ha, ha! Me too. Every morning, my dilemma is what am I going to wear? Then, I am like, I have no perfume……which will I wear today!
Every day. Ugh. I like Si and even find the edp sheer enough for warm weather. I have a cute little mini but have considered a FB. It’s so easy and likeable.
The mini is so cute but as someone commented today…I also prefer a spray (or many sprays) to a dabber. I already feel the edt is lasting longer than the edp but that must be due to the wider application. I’d say go for the FB if you find one!
SOTD is Poivre Piquant.
Last night I “accidently” walked into my local Sephora (I’m not supposed to be buying…) and discovered the Atelier Cologne Collection Orient. I really liked Poivre Electrique and Encen Jinhae.
Naturally the store was packed and I left before being able to find anybody (for samples)
Did anyone have a chance to try those 2?
Are they any good? (I know that this is very relative)
Should I buy?
If I do buy, which one should I get as the 100ml?
I tried Encens Jinhae but could not smell any incense in it… It was meh on me. I really liked the Tobacco Nuit. Have not tried the other one you mentioned.
Tried to wear Rose Chypre this morning but it just really doesn’t work for me. Ah well. It faded and I put on a cloud of Misia.
I’m having a real conundrum about Mito. I love it but am not sure whether to get the extract, the EDP, or Viole. Last night the extract won on my comparative arm contest, but with a dabbed I probably had as much of it on as the Viole, which can’t be right. Anyone have advice? My temptation is to get a small extract and then see if I want something to spray with it.
The only extract I have experience with is for Bois des Iles and Mohur and both are, hands down, the best (IMO) in this form.
I’m hoping the Mohur comes my way this month for my birthday!
I like all of the Vero Profumos best in extrait.
Thanks!
Feel free to email me at crln456 in gee mail land if you want a deal on a FB of the edp.
Oh I’ll be in touch!
Extrait always, if you can aford it.
I think the little one is calling to me.
Today I’m wearing Cristalle. My outfit with my pink hair was leaning toward precious, so I decided I need something bracing to counteract that! I’ll probably apply some Mitsouko later when the Cristalle fades.
I’m drinking green tea (Costco brand – it’s really good!) because it goes with my lunch of avocado toast. Don’t know why, I always want those two together 🙂
Yum!- all of these things sound so good!
SOTD is Azemour, one of my favourite fruity chypres, it’s so mossy! haven’t tried any others from PDE, and like the sound of a couple of them.
Skipping a chypre to wear something just supportive for my advance preparation for a big deadline/interview/presentation on Friday.
I have a new little decant of Dries over my last last bits of Ancient Resins, which is one of my favourite combinations yet. There’s a new layer of sunscreen in the mix, but it’s mostly inoffensive.
Good luck!! And you do smell great.
Late to this. What a morning!
SOTD: A rerun of Niki St Phalle, which s I think is the summer scent for me (honestly!) Perfect for a crazy morning where the first meeting was at 7 AM. OY!
OOTD: Blue and black printed top, chambray trousers and a black cotton jacket.
Does Niki St. Phalle only come in the snake bottle? I have a vintage one slithering around somewhere that I haven’t yet tried.
Sorry for the late reply- I am doing some research on homes, and that took a lot of time!
Okay, so the one I have is a splash bottle with snakes on it. I got my bottle off of Amazon and it was manufactured in Switzerland. I do think this is a newer bottle. When and if I rebuy this I would get the spray bottle.
No chypre for me today. While I was looking at my shelf deciding what to wear today, I saw my decant of SL Santal Mysore and decided that smelling like a buttery curry pastry sounded like a good idea, so that’s what I am doing.
Happy Hump Day, all!
It’s supposed to be 94 here today, so I’m sporting some Rochas Femme while the temperature is still below 100…which it won’t be at the end of the week.
In a gentle murmur of Bollywood or Bust.
Trying our a sample of MDCI’s Les Galantes. This is not working for me, getting a weird cheap vanilla candle vibe. Think if it still persists after lunch I will be scrubbing and replacing with Coromandel.
Unrelated, has anyone tried either Lux or Nuit Noire from Mona di Orio? I’ve tried a couple from the line and had mixed results…
Is Nuit Noire the one with an excessive dose of civet? It is much stronger than anything I tried, to me perfume is just plain fecal, strongly. Do not like at all.
Oh no! That is good to know though, thank you! I can handle civet in low doses, but in larger quantities it tends to smell a little too much like a litter box for enjoyment.
Lux smells like a lemon cleaning product to me and I am sure Nuit Noire has been reformulated since I don’t smell anything animalic at all in it any more, in fact it now reminds me of L’Heure Bleue. Definitely sample before buying.
I totally understand your connection to lemon Pledge. Most of what I’ve tried from her seems to have a “twist” that can really play out differently on people’s skin chemistry. I appreciate several, but Vanille is the only one I can actually wear, and only in colder weather.
Off to edit my Lucky Scent cart!
Morning. It’s a bit dreary here: getting cooler, and now it’s raining that pointless city rain that makes things wet and grubby but offers no conceivable benefits. Thanks to inspiration from Bastet, I’m now in Jubilation at one end, and thanks to the up-coming day, I’m in my red boots at the other. Gosh, I love this perfume…it’s very slightly camphorous on me, with the odd but not unpleasant effect that its glories seem somehow to be slightly hazy memories rather than experienced in the moment. Beautiful!
Love “slightly hazy memories rather than experienced in the moment’!
I wanted something fun for my birthday, so I’m in Lolita Lempicka. It’s making me smile, as are the amazing chocolate peanut-butter cupcakes a colleague made for me.
Lots of birthdays! Happy birthday to you, Petrichor!
Have a wonderful day, Petrichor. And, btw, love your name.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Also the cupcakes sound pretty yummy.
Happy Birthday. I had been gorging lately on Peanut Butter M&Ms and I will soon be mixing baking peanut butter morsels and semi-sweet chocolate mlrsels. Slurp.
Happy Birthday! Yum to Lolita and the cupcakes.
Happy birthday, Petrichor!
Chyrpe Week Day 4
SOTD. = Chanel No.19 EDT layered with Ann Gerard Rose Cut
No.19 is not a chypre per Fragrantica but Rose Cut is. Observations: I enjoy No.19 EDP more than the EDT. I could barely smell EDT but to be fair, the first time I wore it, I used 2 sprizes and then today, Rose Cut showed No.19 EDT who’s boss. The idea for the No.19 and Rose combo came from yesterday’s comments albeit the idea was to layer with a rose -scented lotion.
I remembered that. I think you smell very good indeed. But I think fragrant compounds in oil (which is in lotions) stick around longer, so there may be a different persistence of scent.
I don’t use scented lotion and will, therefore, srick to layering perfumes. That said, what suggestions do you have for a good rose that can play second fiddle in a layering combo?
Okay, If you want something rosy to layer, there is Annick Goutal’s Rose Absolute (expensive) or The Body shop’s Atlas Mountain Rose (Cheep!) or Rosewater by Crabtree and Evelyn (Cheep-Cheep)! I have used all three as a layer with a richer, more wood or sweeter scent (like patchouli or jasmine)
Taking my car in for a service on the way to work this morning, so even less time to read everyone’s comments than usual., but that gives me something to look fotward to tonight.
Continuing the theme of chypres that I know for sure are chypres without doing any research, 31 Rue Cambon today.
You smell great!
The Hyacinth from Buterbaugh I sprayed myself with this morning is very faint but still with me. Soon enough, though, I’ll be smelling of fresh-cut grass. Mmm.
I will get to try these soon as they are definitely ar Bergdorfs. Do you have the sample set? Any favorites?
Another modern floral chypre for me today- the always lovely Soir de Lune!
SOTD is Balenciaga Le Dix…swooning!
Swoon worthy!! I have only a bit of vintage parfum, and still haven’t brought myself to the “use it or lose it” practice.
Tried Hermes Muguet Porcelaine today – do not want. There is a monstrois melon note in it I cannot stand. More money saved I guess. I spritzed on some Bulgari The Bleu as my SOTD.
Sorry it turned out unpleasantly for you, but yes, money saved! What a relief for me. If there’s anything even vaguely melon-like in there, I can avoid it like the Plague and not feel guilty about not sniffing it (which I otherwise would as a LOTV lover)!
See, I was afraid of this. There really needs to be a warning label on melony-aquatic fragrances!
Thanks for posting your take! I still have yet to smell it on my skin–just that sprayed card. I didn’t get the melon but maybe because it was too far into the dry down. I will be curious to see if I get the melon note too.
Timbuktu, which is sort of like skipping to the end of a chypre, I suppose.
So, I braved Macy’s today to see if the new Angel Muse was there and it was and the SA was terrific! She gave me a carded sample and said that they just got this in and she would not be receiving the rest of the promotional items until the first week in June. She will email me when it gets there. Basically, this lovely woman was communicating, try this at your leisure and wait to purchase until I can give you all the free goodies because House Mugler is great about those lovely little freebies! Angel Muse has a lovely, not too sweet, hazelnut drydown. It goes through a patch phase but it is short lived. I know, some will sigh in relief and others wail in despair. There is an intriguing note of brimstone as well. Ambled over to Sephora and tried the new Stella Pop and it is a really nice fruity floral with a flourish of mandarin orange in the opening and a bit of depth and sophistication. I bought a rollerball.
How would you say Muse compares to the original? The opening red berries in Angel put me off and I usually can’t wait long enough for them to dissipate…
That top always translates as cotton candy or berry candy to my nose. My fragrance absorbing skin fast forwards through most of this phase and right on to the patchouli. I am not getting a great deal of berry vibe from Angel Muse. More a hazelnut cream. Is it sweet? Yes, but not as sweet as the original or the Sucree flanker.
Thanks for the notes on Pop, I’ve been curious about that one!
I think all the fragrances from this house are really nicely done. Nothing earth shattering, but pretty and friendly.
SOTD = a couple spritzes of 28 La Pausa, courtesy of Hajusuuri. I did get something a bit different from when I just dabbed. Unfortunately, my allergies are raising Cain today, and now I can’t smell much of anything at all. I think the weather here is responsible for that. Boo, hiss!
Oh nose! I hope you get to experience the beauty that is 28 La Pausa when your honker is back in full form!
Chypre week, my favorite! And I’m late to the game. Well, the only thing to do will be to make up for lost time and wear at least 2 a day. This morning, was feeling a bit vulnerable so I powered up with a drop of Bandit parfum.
Next up: vintage Molyneux Vivre, if I can find it. 🙂
