Tuesday, and where I live, the umpteenth grey drizzly day in a row. I'm getting a little cranky about Spring 2016. Hope it's nicer where you are, and do tell us what fragrance you're wearing.
I'm not wearing any proper fragrance at the moment, but I am wearing Alba Botanica Kona Coffee After-Sun Lotion. Mmmm, coffee. I'm drinking tea, though — Harney's Genmaicha.
Reminder: on 5/6, wear a fragrance from Tom Ford, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

We are also cold and drizzly as well, but my plants seem to like it so I’m going with that. BRR! SOTD is the last of my small vial of vintage Guerlain Vol de Nuit extrait because Angela inspired me from her bottles post, and because well, VdN and cool spring rain. Perfect combo.
I finally broke down and ordered a sample of vintage VdN extrait, after finding my sample of edt (age unknown) to be almost not-there. Maybe I’ll give it a shot today.
I have little sympathy for the plants at the moment. Surely they like a little sun too? Admittedly our lettuce seems to be doing quite nicely this year.
Lettuce loves this type of weather. It’s early for us yet — our leaves haven’t even come out yet. Oy. I would really like a nice warm sunny weekend so I can garden for mother’s day. I have a bunch of plants that I still need to put in that have been in cool storage.
It rained here most of the weekend and was it was very overcast yesterday. Finally, we have some sunshine today 🙂
Cooler temps here for the next few days. SOTD is Extreme (Tom Ford). 🙂
Oh, you smell very cozy !
I like this frag better in Autumn, but it is doing the trick today with the cooler weather. 🙂
Indeed! I like ‘Extreme’ in fall- it’s something of a sweater scent, as I call it. But so wonderful on a chilly spring day too!
Sorry for your awful weather, as spring seems to have very much arrived here in the Low Countries. SOTD is another lavender; the spicy and wonderful Maharadjah by PdN. Tea is Sikkim Temi.
Haven’t tried this yet, but Patricia de Nicolai is a great perfumer!
You know it’s no longer made, I could send you some, if you wish. It’s a great and personable take on lavender.
That’ so very sweet. ❤ Maybe we can do a lavender swap. Have you tried Fire and Cream?
No I haven’t! Have you tried l’Impacte de Pour un Homme?
Good morning, NST! Parfumerie Generale Musc Maori today. Like wearing a Hershey’s bar. I might need a Hershey’s bar now.
I like that one! And it would go nicely with my lotion 🙂
Musc Maori is so delicious! You smell excellent
Musc Maori made me realize that I do not like prominent chocolate notes on my skin. 🙂
Weather is (too) beautiful here, an early summer! SOTD is Kouros, which for me feels always strange but never skunky!
Enjoy your great weather!
Wearing the dry down of Frapin 1270 pre shower and debating on wearing it after my shower. I can’t fathom why I don’t wear this more often. I love the booze soaked pineapple note. Since it’s only going to be only 57 and sunny, I might go with either vintage Miss Dior or Frapin 1270.
I have been longing for some vintage Miss Dior for a while now! Can you comment on how it compares to Miss Dior Originale? And do you know how concentrations and things vary from vintage perfumes to recent ones?
I hope Dawn has some comments for you, but you may also find this post helpful: http://perfumeshrine.blogspot.com/2011/12/chronology-comparison-photos-of-miss.html
I have only tried Miss Dior in mid-2000s edt (hated it) and vintage 1970s parfum (took me several tries to “get” it, but it’s amazing).
Oh thanks for the link! I have tried the new Miss Dior (ie, Chérie) and find it cloying and dreadful. I don’t know what version was out in the mid-2000s, but from the link it looks like it might’ve been the original one? I tried Originale recently in store and absolutely loved the extrait, though I didn’t fall in love with the EDP or EDT. Now I just need to know whether vintage and Originale match up exactly or not! There also appear to be at least four styles of vintage Miss Dior parfum bottles, and I can’t tell if their contents are different or not. Sigh.
It’s been a while since I have tried the most current version of the Originale and I do have a decant somewhere. I’m going to have to drag it out and try it again but I remember liking it a lot. You can find the vintage EDT or EDC quite reasonably priced. I have to drag out the vintage extrait version that I have to try though.
Where did you find the vintage extrait? I have found some reasonable EDTs, but all the extraits I have found have been quite pricy (which isn’t unreasonable, of course, just disheartening for my search!). And how do you judge reliability?
I found one onight Ebay. Sometimes you can luck out.
I have a Miss Dior edt from 2000 and it is to die for , I also have an older edt in a houndstooth bottle and that is absolutely gorgeous too. I would like to try the vintage extrait one day.
The two scents are different, though? If so, how?
I find them completely different. The vintage one is more green and I smell more the bergamot. I find the 2000 version more powdery and I smell more the aldehydes. I like them both.
The pineapple just brings it all home for me, love 1270 so much. I actually just picked up a new 100ml bottle and found that the local shop was selling it for $50 less than online! Totally made my weekend.
Good morning all!
SOTD is Jasmin Rouge by the amazing Tom Ford.
you smell lovely
You smell divine! Btw, twins today ????
Sampling JHaG Mad Madame.
Rain for the past few days but now a bit of sun today, we have already hit 50F so things are looking up. I think I will wear Dzongkha today.
morning all,
it’s chilly and rainy.
wearing Alahiiiiine 🙂
Twins – hi!
You smell fab.
Italian Cypress–very 70’s qiana shirt and pornstache.
I am drinking some Keemun-style Taiwan black tea.
Heh. I haven’t smelled the TF, but people say it reminds them of Halston Z14, which I do love. (Smelled it at the drugstore and *immediately* bought it for my husband. Z14 in itself reminds me a bit of Rainbath shower gel.)
I’m trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on this one. Knowing that it’s discontinued, and getting harder to find, is making me leans towards a yes. Smelled it and loved it a year ago. But there were a few I loved more at the time. Any advice?
I’m wearing Tom Ford Fleur de Chine and one of my two Roksanda Ilincic dresses (it’s possibly my favourite dress) for a big press event. I thought I would keep FdC for Friday, but I needed it today.
Currently drinking coffee, but made my first matcha latte yesterday evening and enjoyed it a lot.
You smell beautiful! Did you use a bamboo whisk for your matcha?
To be honest, I don’t have one here (in Brussels) and it hasn’t been an issue, as I haven’t been drinking much matcha. But J just came back from Japan and brought some. Yesterday, I just whisked the matcha-milk mixture with a most ordinary of metal whisks, but for making tea, I’ll get a proper one.
I don’t have one either–I keep putting it off, but there seem to be a lot of beautiful artisan matcha tea sets to choose from and i should probably get one.
You smell great! FdC will be my Friday scent.
Thank you! You will smell great on Friday 🙂
But it really is a good one.
Mine too, as it happens. :^)
Doing my own study on Hedione. Wearing Paco, Rabanne’s attempt to ride CKOne’s popularity. Nice!
Is that the one in the metal canister? I used to wear it a lot in the late nineties, I think I preferred it to CKOne back then.
Yes it is. I am going to put CKOne on my other arm, and compare & contrast.
Paco is nice, indeed.
You smelled good! 🙂
Gee I had a canister of Paco sometime way back. I remember it being ‘nice’ . . . but fleeting.
That’s a very bold experiment. Having just read up on Hedione I think all the ladies and men in your neighbourhood are in for a thrill. Please report!
Hello Kanuka! CKOne has a smokiness on my skin, while the Paco is a bit sweeter. But in no way SWEET.
Both feature tea, green in the CK, and the Hedione adds its transparent jasmine luminosity.
6 hour longevity for both, light but present sillage.
Both are pleasant wears, no strange glances !! LOL 😉
Afternoon Bear! I have been inspired by all your recent experiments and am wearing Kouros. No action here, either…not so much as a raised eyebrow. Sigh.
How about that thunderstorm last night, Robin? Did you get any of that? I knew it was going to rain, but that violent of a storm was rather shocking considering how cool it’s been. It felt like more of a mid-summer type of thunderstorm.
I’m WFH today, but still crazy busy, so quick pop in for SOTD: Forest Walk by Sonoma Scent Studio. Annikky, I got my sample and I can totally see the similarity to OW, and your review was spot on – it’s very rough compared to how smooth and refined OW smells. That being said, after the rather screechy opening, it does mellow out a lot and smells much more forest-y than OW, I think. I do really like it and it’s a lot stronger than I thought it would be.
So glad you like it! I tend to like polished perfumes (see Chanel exclusives), but I find it somehow grounding to wear rougher things occasionally. Not that FW is very raw or anything but Ormonde Jayne’s perfumes can take it pretty far in the other direction, smoothing everything over with Iso E Super.
It is indeed grounding. I can see how wearing this one while actually out on a hike would feel even more “authentic” so to speak.
I can’t say I know the difference between scents with ISO E Super or not, but I can tell that OW is definitely a bit more refined than FW.
We had a big thunder and lightening storm last night and then it rained like dogs. I can’t understand how we had such a storm when it was cold and then it just stayed cold!
My thoughts exactly.
We had a little thunder before I went to bed, but I was watching the end of Grantchester and paid it no mind 🙂
Then slept like a log, so don’t even know what happened after that.
You smell great!
Oh goodness, it was pounding thunder and rain here for a while and then it stopped, but started up again an hour later and woke me up.
You smell wonderful! That’s one of my favorites and peeking out under all the woods I get a brief glimpse of forest flowers. I have a distinct memory of mountain biking down a mountain in the forests of western NC in the Spring, everything a blur of greens. Suddenly, on my right I saw a brief flash of bright pink that lasted about a nanosecond. It happened again just a few feet later, but I was going too fast, and the trail was too hazardous to stop safely. I got all the way to the bottom and headed back up the mountain at the pace of snail to investigate, and lo and behold! There was a small patch of pink Lady Slipper Orchids hiding out under some greenery! Just beautiful! Forest Walk always reminds me of that experience.
I remember finding pink lady slippers in the woods from time to time when I lived in Kentucky — such a magical flower, and so amazing to see it just growing there on the forest floor, like, ho hum, I’m just this gorgeous orchid, growing randomly on the ground here…
That’s a fantastic story to associate with a scent 🙂
Lovely visual, you put me right there. Thank ylou!
The lousy weather has sent me scrambling back to my cold-weather scents, so I’m in Coromandel today.
You smell great! The only thing I like about cold weather is cold weather scents.
Thanks! I actually love cold weather and snow, but this cool and drizzly thing that it’s been doing this week is not my favorite. At least I have my perfume to keep me cozy.
Lilas et Narcissus for me today
This sounds so good.
Very rich and polleny. Unfortunately it was a limited edition but my little 10ml bottle will still last me years (light sprayer plus scent-glue skin plus seasonal choice)
Rocky start to my day. and almost forgot perfume! I guess I missed the heavy rain last night, but woke up to about 4 inches of water outside the back door of our apt. There’s a drain that was covered in dirt and leaves which needed sweeping. Now I’m at work and praying the rain stays light today.
SOTD Habanita L’Esprit which is becoming an easy go-to comfort scent.
I really need to get my hands on a sample of this L’Esprit b/c I like the Habanita edp. You are making me very curious!!!
I’m happy to send you some. I still have your email. I think it would probably disappoint die-hard Habanita fans because this is less complex and edgy. It’s a more feminine version and basically smells like the powdery drydown of Habanita. It’s a great bedtime scent, too. And I live the bottle:-)
Hot and sunny in SoCal today.
10 sprays of incense flash!
great choice!
Wow! It takes courage to tackle 10 sprays of a Tauer perfume- kudos!
I have a significant birthday next week Deva. Am throwing lots of rules out the window.
Well then, a very Happy Early Birthday and spritz with abandon ????
L’eau d’Hiver this morning.
Lovely!
It’s very nice indeed in Florida today! I brought my SOTD Rose Absolue (Rocher) to the office today, which the attorneys seem enthralled with. It’s a lovely buttery scent.
The more I wear expensive scents, the more impressed I am with Rocher.
I smelled their Rose Oud last weekend, and while I didn’t do a proper study of its evolution and sticking power, at first blush, it seems to hold up just fine against all the pricy rose ouds.
Agree. It’s hard to believe how good their perfumes are!
Do you experience that lovely, soft trail of cinnamon that weaves in and out between the roses? That’s my favorite part of the scent, I love YR Rose Absolue.
I definitely got a luscious “dessert” vibe from it–I’ll bet you’re spot-on! 🙂
I have to agree with you on the quality of some of the Rocher scents. I recently fell in love with the men’s Comme Une Evidence (which I think translates loosely to “As Proof”), a woody, gently spiced rose. At about $35 bucks (or less during a sale) for 2.5 ounces, it’s hard to beat.
That is good to know. I didn’t visit any YR shops in my recent trip to France because their stuff is fairly easy to access here as well. Also I shall be working in Paris fairly soon and I’m confident of being able to run wild through their stores any time I choose. A lot cheaper than going berserk in some other more niche places :^)
After a warm, slightly sticky day yesterday, it’s a little cooler today, and my hand went unerringly to the Alahiiiine bottle. So delicious. I’m getting (or maybe imagining) a slight pipe tobacco note in it this morning along with the amber-y florals. Yum.
Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford. It’s as much about leather as about black tea to me. Love this to pieces, unfortunately, my decant is gonna end soon 🙂 I have Rasasi La Yuqawam though, it is pretty close.
I like Tuscan Leather a lot. I bought it for J so I could steal it, but it’s gone now.
I only had a small decant of Tuscan Leather, but it’s almost gone. Shame, it’s delicious.
Scent twins!
I wear it as a bedtime scent sometimes.
I love that one, you smell great.
I’m starting off my day, which started too early, in TF Oud Fleur, which I like very much.
It is cold cold cold here. Toulouse is supposed to have the best weather in France, which bodes ill for France. The sun finally came out an hour ago and the air has warmed up to 64 °F, but that’s far too cold for the south of France in May.
SOTD is Basile Basile, which, after an unpleasantly powdery (think CN5), turned into a gorgeous gourmand oriental. Once I work through my 3-mL decant, I’m going to have to get a bottle; it’s basically free on the discount sites 🙂
Question: Does anyone else find it harder to smell in the morning? I put on perfume about three minutes after waking up, and nothing ever smells as interesting or as strong as it does if I apply later in the day. Does this have to do with my nose, or with my skin? I often end up putting on a couple sprays more than I would if applying in the afternoon.
I’m usually slightly congested in the morning (from being on my back) and my skin is colder. Perhaps you experience something similar?
That fragrance sounds fanrastic! I’m off to research ????
It’s your nose! Your nose goes to sleep while you’re sleeping and takes a while to wake up just like the rest of your body.
That’s so cool!!!
Wearing Narciso Musc oil, which, in a positively shocking turn of events, I got as a sample from Bloomingdales yesterday. Yesterday I thought I really liked it (maybe I was smelling something else?), but today I literally can’t smell it at all. I want to put more on but I’m a little afraid it’s just my nose, and I’ll end up gassing everybody else in the office. Maybe I should just stick to the EDP.
That one was sneaky on me. It would sort of wax and wane-maybe depending on how many other competing odor molecules were around.
The first few minutes were great, then poof, into thin air. Did you have any problem smelling the EDP or was it just the oil that was being flaky?
I think I only tried the oil.
I love that one. I think it’s better on me than the edp. I had no trouble smelling either. It’s on my full bottle wishlist, so I’ll probably get it in the next few months
Since you can actually smell the oil, I just have to ask how much a normal person might reasonably wear, and how long that amount lasts?
Do you mean Musc For Her oil? It barely registers with me. Must be the type musk they use, or some other compound blocking it.
And I’ve probably gassed a lot of people in my time wearing it, too 😀
We’re talking about the one in the white bottle that goes with Narciso edp in the white cube bottle. I think you’re talking about the Narciso Rodriguez For Her range. Creative naming of scents is apparently not his strong suit
I impulse bought some Diptyque MF samples that arrived yesterday. So today, I’m testing out Ôponé. It’s interesting. I’ve been looking for a “dry” rose – I understand the appeal of the “wet” roses I usually find in perfume, but I’ve yet to find one of those that I really love. Not sure if I’ll love Ôponé, either, of course!
Have you tried Paestum Rose? It’s quite dry, and incense-y.
And cheaper than Ôponé! I haven’t, but I’ll add it to my list. Thanks!
Vetiver Fatal for today.
I’ll ask here…does anybody know of a good vetiver-scented body wash? I’ve been looking high and low thinking it would be a lovely way to start a day but so far, nothing.
I hope somebody has an answer to this conundrum, because I would really enjoy a Vetiver body wash that doesn’t cost an arm, a leg, and three teeth.
I used to have a giant jug of Perlier Vetiver shower gel, don’t know how readily available it is nowadays. HTH, but probably doesn’t. 😉
Yves Rocher Cuir Vetiver shower gel? I haven’t tried it but Anniky said at the weekend she bought it and really likes it, and the EDT is great. It’s very cheap too.
L’Occitane Vetyver Shower Gel?
Korres makes one too (haven’t tried either, tho)
Thanks, all!! I think the l’Occitane is dc’d now but I’ll check the others and report back.
I talked to someone at a small soap/etc place who thought it might be because the essential oil was too expensive for this but I’m not sure if that was just pulled out of her hat.
We had an enormous thundershower last night! The CEO had been taking some visiting New Zealand farmers from a farm in the Shenandoah Valley to their hotel near Virginia Tech, but he was late for a county supervisors’ meeting so I had to take over and drive them the last leg of their trip, and it POURED the whole time. (“Ah, rain. Feels like home,” the husband said.)
Testing vintage Vol de Nuit parfum today, and it’s nice but I don’t love it. At least I can *smell* it, as opposed to the modern edt, which was both faint and musty. This is very ambery and woody, and I’m not getting any florals at all. It’s pleasant, I don’t love it, and now I’m wiping my brow with relief that I won’t have to go in search of a bottle. Think I’ll pop a bit of Le Temps d’une Fete on top of this.
ok, now I’m a lot less concerned about trying vintage VdN…thanks for taking one for the team!
Those kiwis were lucky to meet you. Hope they appreciated and made the most of being in the company of a perfume expert.
Rainy and warm today. Broke out my Caron L’Anarchiste. I really should wear this minty, neroli and cedar perfume more often. Talk about misnamed. A comfort fougere of the first order.
I’m waiting for warmer weather to re-try this one. I have a FB and during the winter it was too thin and metallic for me. :^)
Jean Patou Divine Folie
TF “Tobacco Camille” today – nice stuff indeed!
Erm, that would be tobacco vanille of course, and not some scent Annick Goutal developed to celebrate when her daughter started smoking.;^
That was funny!
It was!
HAHA
🙂
Would be very French to have a scent like that.
😀
😀
????
A liberal application of Vetiver Tonka is helping me through the day today.
Nice!
Scent twins!
Triplets????????
I slept late today and thoroughly enjoyed lolling about like a plump seal basking on the rocks at ocean side. Ahh….
Also drinking juice from the beans pictured above and sweating, because even though my AC is on, it’s just blistering hot down here already. I truly wish I could do a weather exchange with some of you who are fed up with the cool and rainy days. You can keep the storms, though???? Pretty sure I am part vampire, because being in the sun is painful- it just roasts me alive!
No SOTD yet, but it will probably be something simple since the agenda calls for laundry/housework/mowing the lawn. Fun times for this Non-Domestic kinda gal. Pretty sure OOTD will be a sweaty t-shirt, shorts, sunscreen, and my birki’s. I’m thinking a nice Vetiver would do the trick…
Oh Lord, I have to mow my lawn too, assuming that the grass dries sufficiently after last night’s rain. It’s that time of year when it grows so fast and so thick that if I let it get too far ahead, the mower won’t go through it in some places.
It’s a jungle out there. Literally ????
It never dried up, and we got another dumping of rain just now. Oh well.
I’m with you on the heat and sunshine. Give me cool and misty *any day.
*unless I am someplace with a swimming pool or nice river for swimming.
Was thinking of taking T-Rex to the local dog beach early this morning to beat the heat, but then realized its sting ray breeding season. Not worth the risk. Give me a lake, river, or stream any day! Nothing harmful in those bodies of water, other than an occasional snake or two ????
Wearing Dans Tes Bras which speaks of dans tes parapluies (?) on another rainy gray foggy gloomy chilly day. Lovely to wear.
I haven’t decided on today’s scent yet, but I can report that I gave Geisha Vanilla Hinoki a whirl last night. It opens with a blast of bergamot and something that smells like green pine needles, underlain with subtle lavender, and at this stage sort of makes my nose feel… refrigerated? Not that the smell is cold in tone, but it feels cold texturally, somehow. And then it morphs into a pretty straightforward resinous wood — which I assume is cypress, though to this westerner it smells a lot like juniper wood — with its edges smoothed by vanilla. It’s comforting, and lighter and less autumnal/wintery than a lot of the vanillic wood scents I’ve sampled. I like it, but don’t know that I find it compelling enough to buy. Sort of falls into the “would be glad to receive it as a gift” bracket. 🙂
Thanks for the report! I’m excited to try this (especially if it’s not overwhelmingly geared towards cooler weather)
Interesting, might have to try that.
After several days of rain, we are having some sunny weather. In Texas, we need as much rain as we can get (as long as you don’t live in Houston) because we are so prone to drought. A rainy spring can be a boon when looking back from a July and August of nothing but 100 + degree sunny weather. SOTD is Si Lolita. I’m beginning to repeat my fragrances, so its time to buy something new, hallelujah!
But now you have to decide what to buy!
TF Violet Blonde today. I usually wear this in the fall but its working pretty well on this rather cool spring day.
I just love the name of this perfume. Smells good, too 🙂
I always read Violet Blonde as Violent Blonde.
Not so nice, but possibly influenced by Michael Hutchence and his ilk.
I think that’s a name that is begging for a fragrance!
Another TF fav of mine! I like it on a hot summer day. It’s interesting how the weather drives different perfume choices for perfume lovers.
We had that bad thunder storm last night as well. Today is another drizzly, dark and dreary day. Started it off by having to take my car in for minor body work due to a mishap last week. The rental car almost costs as much as the car repair (and both are all out of pocket for me)–it probably killed any possibility of buying perfume this month.
SOTD is Histoire de Parfum’s Tuberose No. 1,
Sorry the mean car ate up your perfume funds 🙁
We’ve had several days of rain here too, but I guess it’s good for the veggie and flowers coming along….(plus, I don’t have to water!) 🙂
SOTD: Daisy Dream. Needed a fave scent to get me thru a long day at work, middle school band concert afterward, and dinner with her friends at Wendy’s after that! Looooong day, and Daisy Dream usually lasts a good long time…..
Today I’m wearing Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede. It was a birthday gift from one of my best friends. I turned fifty years old this past Sunday. The big 5-0!
Today, I’m going to lunch with some friends and my daughter, and the friend who gifted me with the Peony & Blush Suede will be there. She was so sweet to give me this. Her reasoning was “I know you like the Chanel with leather (Cuir de Russie), and P & B Suede has suede in it”.
Happy birthday, and how sweet of your friend.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Do you like the Peony, etc ? I’ve just learned it’s the favourite of my Jo Malone SA.
Thanks for birthday wishes!
Peony & Blush Suede is very pretty and cozy.
I think my favorite Jo Malone is White Jasmine & Mint.
Happy 50th!
Happy birthday! Have fun at your lunch today — it sounds like you have some very thoughtful friends!
Happy Birthday! What a thoughtful friend.
Happy Birthday, Barqs. Have a great one!
Happy Birthday!! You are blessed with good friends and family…and fragrance, by the sound of things!! 🙂
Happy belated Birthday! What a thoughtful gift from your friend. 🙂
Happy (Belated) Birthday!
Happy Birthday and here’s hoping you’ll keep adding on wonderful memories to your birthday scent throughout the year!
Happy birthday! Just turned 50 myself.
Happy birthday to you also. We are both in the “over-50” club 🙂
Eric Buterbaugh’s Hyacinth.
Okay, I have just encountered yet another quirk! I adore hyacinths, and I have been waiting for the perfect soliflore hyacinth and y’all, this is it! It is seriously spectacular, and so true to the flower that it’s astonishing and … I don’t love it. How freakin’ weird is that? You know how sometimes you pass by certain flowers and they smell great, but when you plunge your nose in the scent becomes too much? I don’t mean potency, really. Or do I? It would be nice if I could be more articulate, but that’s not happening for the moment. Does anyone know what I mean?
I love that Buterbaugh Hyacinth! (I have not been able to make myself try the others because I fear they’re just as good and I’m going to want them.) It wasn’t perfect for me because it was a little too much stem, not quite enough bloom – but it lasts for hours on my scent-eating skin, a real and wonderful surprise.
I know, I was rather terrified to try this one as they’re so expensive. I will try the others, and I’m glad to have my little decant of this one. Maybe I’m simply (extra) cantankerous today.
I want all those Buterbaughs so bad and I haven’t even smelled them… If anyone has an idea what the best way to test them is in Europe, let me know (I might have asked this once already, apologies).
And while I’m not sure I know exactly what you mean, perfection can have a similar effect on me.
They’re available on STC if you ever order from them. Another option is that I can always order some samples/decants for you and mail them. I’d be happy to do that!
I have been thinking hard if I can charter a mule, if I find one I will let you know!
If you do, I’d be interested and willing to chip in too.
That happens to me sometimes with hyacinths, actually, but I do love the Buterbaugh collection. I haven’t even let myself wear most of them this year because it’s just been too darn cold.
I totally get that. It happens to me with rose scents. A couple of whiffs of a photorealistic rose scent is divine, but prolonged exposure sometimes becomes grating.
Yes, I find this with many florals.
Happy Tuesday!
We got up to almost 90 in the Portland metro area. After work I decided to go biking along the Esplanade and then in the SE Clinton/Division neighborhood, crossing over to the Tilikum bridge. Afterwards, a big Campari and soda. What a treat!
SOTD: Combo: The Body Shop Satsuma body mist combined with Lust perfume (the solid) I smell very soapy/citrus/jasminy-sweet, which is perfect for another warm, sunny day we will be having.
OOTD: Vlisco peplum top and summerweight jeans, my fake Swedish clogs (I got them from Fred Meyer)
SOTD is vintage no 19 EdT. It helped me to get a lot of work done, in spite of a lingering migraine. Weather gods are kind, it is a lovely day and we will have a few more lovely ones to go.
You smell beautiful and I hope the migraine will soon be in the past. It’s beautiful here too and I have just received your package, so life is great! Thank you so much.
Great news! I am very curious how you will like Safran Troublant and Voyage. Hope you are a bit less tired and the EU not claiming your time too much.
Was reading about Miller Harris, so put on some Fleurs de Sel. Think it works better as a weekend wearing-jeans scent.
I received a small decant of this in the mail yesterday and test-drove it last night. I think I will wear it a lot on low key summer days. Definitely casual to me too. But lovely.
I think you are right.
I love Bandit, but find my SOTD, TF Tuscan Leather, too dry and masculine for my taste. I put a tiny amount of Bandit on one wrist and my decant of Tuscan Leather on my husband’s desk.
How interesting, Bandit is equivalent of a punch in the nose for me, while Tuscan Leather is luscious and rather…wet? as opposed to dry 🙂 Do you perhaps have vintage Bandit? Never tried that one.
My Bandit is vintage and has darkened in its bottle but still smells delicious, like a Jolie Madame on steroids. I’ve not smelled the current formulation. Would anyone who has smelled both care to comment on the difference?
I bet it makes all the difference, at least to me. Magie Noir vintage smells delicious to me, but new formulation delivers the same kick in the nose as current Bandit. I must be sensitive to certain substitution in the formula.
The mention of Jolie Madame caught my attention. Are they really similar?
I adore vintage JM, but Bandit horrifies me. (I always thought that was just me and my preference for florals.)
mals, did you try vintage Bandit? I haven’t, and I find current version horrifying as well.
I find them very similar. My Jolie Madame is vintage as well, and it is a floral leather without all the dirty bits that are in Bandit!
SOTD is Jasmin Rouge. Just luscious. ????
Wearing Sotto La Luna Tuberose today…
Which I really enjoy but sometimes I think it smells like fine grape soda. 😉
It also reminds me quite a bit of his Loretta too which I think is still in production.
At least the grape soda is FINE!
Love this one, it’s so different from most tuberose scents. And I love grape soda. 🙂
Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood for this morning of errands and grocery shopping before a paint-filled afternoon.
Yum!
Did you reattach the medicine chest (or whatever it was that crashed), or are you getting up in the contractor’s grill?
Waiting for a call back from the contractor–thanks for asking!
Sun! Still cool, but sun! Wearing 31 RC. I knew I had a little decant, but it was lost for awhile. I should probably wear it only once a year to make it last. I’ll never be able to afford a bottle of anything Chanel. Isn’t there anywhere to get a decant (whine)?
It is a bummer about the Chanels not being available on decanting sites. I just bought a couple of decants from someone on a Facebook group. Also, maybe a split in the next split meet?
It seems so antithetical to the world of perfume, or at least in my little perfume world. I haven’t investigated any perfume groups on Facebook, and apparently I should do that. Thanks for the hint and sympathy, Elise.
Karen, I am happy to fill a travalo (4 ml) and send it to you, shipping more increases the risk of confiscation by the border police! Please leave your email address here if you are interested.
Oh! I have chills at my keyboard. You are so kind, hamamelis. i am beadling at gee mail dat calm and forever in your debt. Thank you thank you.
Hope I get the clues right, I will mail you right now!
I was feeling upset this morning (no real reason; general feeling of meh + hormone-infuced emotivity) and forgot to put perfume before leaving for work! Should have thought of wearing something comforting.
Hope the day perked up for you.
I hope your day will get better
I was in a funk today too, for no particular reason. Hope you feel better by now!
Copying AnnieA in Fleurs de Sel and trying to get myself motivated to go outside and do some work.
Well you smell good whether work for done or not!
Drinking some good, strong Brazilian coffee and wearing Narciso for Her EDP. Nice musky perfume, and I can see why people consider it sexy. Today is my husband’s birthday and I’m working from home, so I baked some ‘pudim de leite’ for him. The house smells of caramel.
Crème Brûlée?
It certainly shares a lot with crème brulée. (Had never thought of that connexion, Austenfan. Different universes!) Because of our Portuguese heritage, though, our egg-based desserts are kind of awesome. A good Pudim has air bubbles inside, so it’s a different texture. Something to be experienced, I say. And very easy to make, btw.
Alahiiiiiiine!! *does cannonball*
This comment totally made my day! ????
Ditto 🙂
Knowing by Estée Lauder. Now that I’ve learnt to apply it prudently, I enjoy it very much. It doesn’t even seem to project that much or last that long. Eh. Maybe my nose died.
Knowing’s on the same wavelength as Scherrer EDT as the perfect spring scent. Now of course Scherrer has hyacinth (ahh!) and Knowing has rose and bla bla (ahh!) but related in my mind they be.
And when I came home I applied A la Nuit . . . ahhh the decadence.
You smell great!
Beloved inspired by Elisa P.
Happy to inspire! Though my initial inspiration to try it came from you and others singing its praises. You, of course, smell gorgeous.
Thanks! ????
It’s a cool day and I’m not sure I really like anything by Tom Ford, so I’m wearing vintage Mitsouko extrait from one of those little “umbrella” bottles.
That’s a much better idea!
Twins! (Tho, technically, I’m in the current EDP…)
Vetiver Tonka for me today. Feeling kind of sleepy and it’s nice out so may need to take a walk to get coffee or something.
Yum. (VT and coffee)
A little sandalwood oil very early – don’t know what got into me at 5:45 am – then some Fou d’Absinthe this afternoon. Melancholy day. Wishing nicer weather to all.
I left the house scentless today, but kept picking up a scent trail of something wonderful at my desk. Turns out a small decant of Vero Profumo’s Rubj had rolled under my keyboard. Now I smell great!
Hoping to get samples from Sammarco today and try out Bond-T later 🙂
Did you order from Sammarco website or elsewhere?
I ordered the 5-sample set from Indie Scents as detailed in Kafka’s post (http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2016/04/26/sammarco-bond-t-promised-land-beckons/). Still waiting on them to show up, hopefully soon!
The golden weather continues down here and I went for a wander around the graveyard. What a great place. Monumental oak trees, rosehips and a scattering of moss roses in flower. Thick carpet of leaves to kick. Lichen glowing on the headstones. Massive eucalypts and long strips of fragrant bark. And a view of the harbour, too. What a magic place ….don’t you love the names you come across on tombstones? Forrestina! Archibald! The Ethels, Pearls, Mabels and Ellens. Even the Marys and Johns. So many stories. Wearing Lale and eating toast and runny honey. Been asked to submit an essay on the subject of home for an anthology so I will do ‘the scent of home’….love it!
Oh, and a wonderful moon, too!
Forrestina is a name I’ve never seen before. I like it!
I love graveyards and the older the better. As a kid, I would walk around old graveyards in Chicago and some of the stonework is amazing. When I went to Paris, I also visited Pere Lachaise on a dreary, rainy April day to hook up with Chopin, Edith Piaf, Victor Hugo, and all the other luminaries of lit and music that rest there. I feel I own it to the know and unknown to stop a minute and say “Hello! You are not forgotten.” So glad I’m not alone in my love of old graveyards????
Great posts!
Busy days. Wore Pichola today but it can’t quite stand up to the weather. Misia yesterday was much better for these cold wet w
Spring days . . .
Wearing Prada Candy Kiss. I don’t get the vanilla people have been talking about. I layered it over Josie Maran Strawberries and Cream body butter. Very creamy and musky today.
I need to find this one, it sounds good.
Sheesh, I’m late today. Having a combined birthday party for two family members, so I’m wearing Mitsouko ’cause I wanna smell niiiiice for them. ???? Enjoy you day, everyone!
‘your’ day. Good grief, fingers, work with me here!
Have youself a good day, too!
???? Thanks! (I did.)
OK, I did it. I just broke my five month fast of not purchasing any fragrance. I just got the Juliet Has A Gun Discovery Kit, the Histoires de Parfums Discovery Set, and the Commodity Discovery Kit. Spent 100 rewards points for a mini of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, and got a free mini of Flowerbomb.
Congratulations!
Nice!
Hey, you ended that dry spell with style????
Congrats! I ordered a lip balm just so I could get the Miu Miu mini. Don’t care for the scent but the bottle is so darn cute!
Spring weather here racing into summer. SOTD is Chanel no 22 parfum.
SOTD is Guerlain Les Meteorites edt. The violet is sweet, but not so sweet as to be candied; the green notes add freshness, yet hover softly in the background; and heliotrope provides a gentle, powdery drydown. Purple heaven!
Spring weather can be so challenging, one day it’s too hot, the other too cold. I’m so looking forward to summer right now.
SOTD was Papillon Anubis, and Salome for the evening. Love!
Finally got a chance to try some of the Tauer flashes, the Incense, Fruitchouli, and Amber. Sorry to say, the first two didn’t do much for me, could barely smell them on skin after an hour or so. The amber was nice, sweet, easy to like.
You have inspired me to go put on some Salome right now.
Very late to the party! I was inspired by elebelle yesterday so
SOTD = Indult Tihota
Simple, yet intense – sweet vanilla and musk, all day, no variation. I love it. A cheaper alternative is Philosophy Fresh. Cream. I have both and typically wear Tihota when I know it will give me my money’s worth by all day wear; Fresh Cream is for when I know I will shower within a few hours of first spritz.
I am on my way home from a Sniffapalooza event at the Annick Goutal boutique on Madison Ave. There, I met up with ElisaP, floragal, ihadanidea and LizzieB. I didn’t even know there was an AG boutique there as I really don’t have to go that far uptown (75th Street) to get my AG fix – Saks is within spitting distance and Bergdorf is just a few more streets up (the geek in me googled the distance betwen my office and Bergdorf and it is ~ 3/4 mile). ANYWAY. I got Camille Goutal’s and Isabel Doyen’s signature on my brand spanking new Heure Exquise box; Camille also signed the little hang tag. My only complaint is it was too crowded as I think tbey stopped checking off names and there were people taking advantage of “free” (but not for me since I paid $10 for the privilege) food and drink.
BTW, it’s Donatella’s birthday week so purhases from last Friday though this weekend do not need to be confessed; all are forgiven 😉
Sounds like a great time! Perfumers must feel like rock stars at those occasions. It’s good to know Donatella will give me a pass this week. I should take full advantage of that…????
It was great fun. No purchase for me, but samples of Heure Exquise, Petite Cherie and others. I’m a mishmash of scents… Sables, Ce Soir ou Jamais, Matin D’Orage. Sables is still going very strong. I would be tempted if I didn’t have Blanche Immortelle… (they’re not the same, the latter is lighter in feel.)
Awesome, I will go back and get a second bottle of Kerbside Violet in that case. 🙂
Just ordered Fresh Cream …. you always make it sound so good. Can’t wait to try it. Sending a pin your way.
A meetup and autographs–cool!
Sounds fabulous! Annick Goutal was my first niche perfume line, so I would love to have met Camille Goutal and Isabel Doyen. I think I bought Eau d’Hadrien first but it might have been Heure Exquise, and I also love Mon Parfum Cherie par Camille.
I’m hoping for a full report of the highlights of your sniffing, hajusuuri!
