Hump Day, and Thomas Jefferson's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a little spritz of L'Artisan Drôle de Rose.
Reminder: On 4/15 we're wearing rose for What's in a name, part 1 ("What's in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet").
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Another abnormally cold morning (in the 20sF) but the sun is shining 🙂
Needed some sandalwood so I am wearing a full body coat of Indian sandalwood topped off with Dame’s Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood…
Happy Hump Day, y’all!
Ah, I still remember the full creaminess of Indian sandalwood oil. My blotter still has some of it. The kind of creamy ganache I had never felt before.
I lucked out with this one…bought it online from Vitacost..it is blended in a carrier oil but is still pretty potent and it was a BOGO so I got a great price (which is why I slathered it all over my body this morning after my shower 🙂 !!!)
You smell beautiful!
I was searching on line for sandalwood oil and wow is it ever expensive. In any case, a few days later I was cleaning off the top of my dresser and found a tiny 5ml bottle of Santalum album oil in with the rest of the EO’s. Shopping at home!
that’s the best kind! I do this now with my clothing….everything I think I’m bored with/tired of goes into storage in the basement..then every once in a while I go “shopping” down there, quite often falling in love again with some of my old stuff (and forgetting that it was even down there!) Saves money, for sure!
You smell like a Queen.
Too bad I don’t look like one 🙂
😛 Ah well!
I love essentials oils….have quite a few that I play with (mostly making bath bombs and such)…..
Citrus Bliss (Doterra) is sooooo good!
I think at this point my e.o. collection may outnumber my FBs!
Hi, almost-scent twin! I’m wearing the Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood, too, (my favorite of his edt’s, had to get a FB) but I’ve layered it over a black currant lotion for more of the tart greenness. For Keep-It-Simple Monday I wore the Rose de Mai soliliflore and enjoyed it so much I wore it again yesterday, a rarity for me!
I like the Rose de Mai as well and wore that one yesterday 🙂
I may have bought the Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood as a gift….
(can’t remember as I bought quite a few full bottles as gifts)….the fragrances are lovely, versatile and easy to wear….
Sandalwood Lover here, too! Byredo Gypsy Water ♡
The sandalwood oil really hit the spot on this chilly morning.
Joining you in rose today with By Kilian Rose Oud. The By Kilian concept and brand rather annoy me, but I can’t help loving some of their perfumes! Esp. Rose Oud which is my favorite oriental rose.
Not that I would ever by the crazy-expensive fancy bottles. Mine is a travel spray from Ebay.
Can you buy just the refill bottle? The 50 ml refill bottles are plain and like lab bottles, but way cheaper. The not-so-nice SA madame at my local perfume shop once did not allow it, but her younger colleagues happily would sell it 😉
I could, but the travel spray is so pretty! Maybe I’ll get the refill when it runs dry.
Ah hah. I am not a sucker for flacons so long as the nozzle is good 😉
It’s so tragic that they discontinued the option of buying travel spray refills on their own. (Wait, if that ever existed for Rose Oud–I was looking at them for Sweet Redemption, and one week they were there; the next, gone! But I suppose I don’t know if they had them for all the fragrances in the first place or just a selection.)
You smell great! Love this rose, which I got through the splitmeet.
The BK Rose Oud is really lovely! I’ve been getting along with a handful of sample sprays – the rose in it is so silky.
This is exactly how I feel about them–totally annoyed by the brand…except for the couple fragrances I think are totally wonderful 😉 (And Rose Oud would def be one of my picks too.)
Extrait De Parfum (David Yurman).
Wonder if we’ll see another launch from Yurman…
You smell wonderful! On my personal list of criminally underrated perfumes.
I am wearing vintage Dioressence EDT. By the way, Fragrantica says it has rose, so it fits this week’s theme.
It’s a beautiful old-school chypre and I find it very fitting for rainy day in spring.
Sounds wonderful!
I never get around to trying grand Dior chypres; I have a feeling that the new ones are not at all what should be a chypre and would give me a wrong impression of their heritage.
I would agree…because of my age I wore “vintage” Dior’s back when they weren’t “vintage” and re-formulations just don’t cut it for me…..
Exactly! The only ‘vintage’ I have with me now is Egoiste from 2006, if that even qualified.
I was once reprimanded for calling a perfume “vintage” because it was not over 50 years old…my interpretation of “vintage” is any fragrance that was not butchered by reformulation (in other words containing the original notes/essential oils/fragrance oils as intended by the original perfumer)….not sure where Egoiste from 2006 fits into that but I remember Egoiste from the early 1990s as well as Egoiste Platinum and they were both glorious!
So long as the reformulation does not change the character dramatically like what happened with Miss Dior, I am happy. After all, perfumes ought to be safe on the consumers, too.
I just got a sample of what TPC said was “pre-reformulation” EDT(pre 2012), but I think it smells the same as the current version, though I haven’t done a side-by-side. I need to try the vintage.
Still no rose scent 🙁
Currently in “Zinnia” by Floris and anxiously awaiting the arrival of a bottle of “Adr_ett” from Nomenclature. I DO wish they’d produce smaller bottles, but oh well. Will happily adore that lovely 100ml flask and its juice for some time to come. 🙂
Yes, 30 ml, please! But it is a great bottle.
It really is! And I suspect it’ll make quite an original flower vase too once I finish the fragrance.
I gifted my favorite attorney with my sample, and of course she was fortunate enough to find an eBay auction of a nearly-full bottle for sale right now. I’m a teeny bit jealous of her excellent timing, but much, MUCH more happy that I was able to introduce her to fragrances that are expanding her horizons beyond “sugar” and “pretty,” as she so aptly put it.
Trying Blanche Immortelle from Atelier Cologne. So far so good, the balsamic molass and curry of immortelle is addictive without being cloying. I wish I had bought Sables when I saw it. I heard it was sandalwood and immortelle. Has it been reformulated a lot?
Any good Samaritan to recommend me some immortelle centred perfumes? Thank you 🙂
I like spicy immortelle in ELDO The Afternoon of a Faun.
Many people enjoy Tilda Swinton Like This (another ELDO), though I find it cloying.
I’ve got to try Blanche Immortelle next time I am near Atelier Cologne stand.:)
highly agree with ELdO Afternoon of a Faun. I also love Annick Goutal Sables for it’s sweet woody take on immortelle.
Me three about Faun. Reminds me of maple syrup without the sweet.
Wow. That sounds promising. Thank you, Enablers!
And, yes, I have just placed two orders for the discovery sets of Atelier Cologne and Etat Libre d’Orange. I have never bought FBs online, so I am not sure about the shipping. The small sample vials should be alright.
I cannot wait for the parcel!
I got the ELdO set recently, it’s good value I thought. :^)
Eau Noire (Dior), if you also like lavender. 🙂
I am going to look for the decant. The FB is just too much; it would take me four years of daily spraying to finish just the 125 ml 😀
Totally agree. I have a couple of smallish decants, which will last me several lifetimes if it doesn’t go bad first. 🙂
I love the current Sables and according to Luca Turin in the guide, it is drier than the original, but he said that was an improvement.
Another immortelle I love is Stephane Humbert Lucas 777 Un Nuit a Doha which is a zestier take on the note with notable ginger and fennel. A bit reminiscent of SL Arabie to me.
I will check that out, but oh the name!
Not many immortelle fragrances, let alone candles. I suppose it really is not everyone’s cup of tea.
HdP Tubereuse Animale.
You’re welcome!
😉
This one sounds interesting, I’ll have to get a decant… 🙂
tuberose and immortelle!? Checking it out.
Apart from the ones already mentioned Histoires de Parfums 1740 ( Marquis de Sade) is a gorgeous immortelle leather.
Parfums d’Empire Fougerie Bengale, for tea, hay, lavender and immortelle.
That was the one that I couldn’t remember and that kept nagging at the back of my mind. It’s a great scent.
L’Occitane Immortelle di Corse, sadly discontinued
No SOTD yet. This week I have successfully managed to kill off both a gardenia and a lavender plant, so I’m off to Ikea for some artificial shrubberies. I need a SOTD that captures the endless drudgery of an Ikea trip- Passage d’Enfer, maybe? 😉
My ‘Hidcote blue’ lavender is just starting to send out new growths! I am having a hard time trying to germinate sweet violets.
Call in the Knights of Ni
😀
Yes.
Roger the Shrubber!
Have you ever read the comedy novel Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix? It concerns (SPOILER) an Ikea-spinoff Eurofurniture outlet overrun by the undead (and they don’t all wear nametags). It just cries out for Demeter Zombie For Her! 😀
No, never! Is it particularly scary? I can only handle low-level spookiness.
Much more silly than scary. Between chapters there are mock product catalog pages displaying housewares with names like Smersk and Güppa and Hånki. 🙂
Help is on the way! The plant whisperer is coming to see you on Saturday! Skip the fake plants! I can help you find some hardy ones that like to live inside.
Is it weird that I absolutely LOVE Ikea?
If it is, *I’m* one of the weirdest people alive. So let’s go with “no”!
I love going to IKEA!
I used to like it, but several trips to the one in Brooklyn(the only one for the 20,000,000 people in NYC) on the weekend has decreased my love for it and/or people.
We just spent a total of 15 hours putting together IKEA furniture. I do have to say that the people who design the DIY furniture and the wordless instructions are pretty brilliant.
I think my favorite part of putting together IKEA furniture is the wine I drink while I watch my boyfriend doing all the work.
If it makes you fell any better, gardenia are easy to kill. I’ve murdered dozens and have one right now that I expect will expire at any time.
A serial killer!
Yep. Gardenia, thyme, and Maranta tremble in fear when I approach.
I’m worse – I managed to kill a spider plant.
Finally the sun is out . I am wearing an uplifting rose today, one of my favorites , Sa Majesté la Rose.
We have sun too! I am most pleased. And you smell fantastic.
Ah a great one. You smell quietly regal.
You smell great! I’d swapped this away a while back and now I regret not keeping a little decant for myself.
Ah, I was going to wear that today, but I forgot and put on a spritz of vintage Nahema instead. Most of it has already worn away, though, so sMlR it will be for tonight!
I’m wearing vintage Eau de Joy. Why not?
Why not indeed! You smell delish.
Voleur de Roses, camphoraceous patchouli that smells like dirt, fugly roses past their prime, and plum preserves.
Fantastic! !!! 🙂
Fugly roses! Love it.
I am joining you in Voleur! I like my roses with dirt.
I also LOVE Voleur! Roses (and patchouli) done right!!! 🙂
Have you tried Ann Gerard Rose Cut?
No….not heard of that one! Will have to find a sample!!
Did not have any time this morning to consider a scent choice and grabbed the nearest bottle: Bottega Veneta. It’s quickly becoming a favorite as as easy-to-wear office scent.
BV is lovely
I’ve really been enjoying BV lately. It’s an office-appropriate scent that’s still ideosyncratic. And it goes so deliciously salty on me, that I feel like I’m at the beach even in my hospital-appliance-greige cubicle!
Baby-related lack of sleep *and* a greige cubicle – did you do something horrible in a past life? (Just kidding)
Scent twins.
“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.” -Thomas Jefferson
“Yep.” -Jada E.
SOTD: Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar
Got a barometric/pollen headache, so sticking with the absolute lightest scent that is still nice….it’s working for me! 🙂
Have a great Hump day, Y’all!
My 11th-grade English lit teacher was a huge (YUGE?) TJ fan, so much so that we joked about getting her a life-size cutout.
Love that quote…
Indian Coconut Nectar is so lovely and perfect when you are under the weather….one summer I added 1ml of Australian Sandalwood to amp it up….the bottle was completely drained by the end of the summer as I wore it a lot…..
I hope your headache gets better.
Thanks! Just a April showers/May flowers headache….Caffeine is helping! 🙂
The high school I graduated from was named for Jefferson. That quote seemed prophetic; hindsight is 20/20.
Re my irritated breathing yesterday: driving down Main Street, I noticed a house apparently deliberately being burned down. Remains heaped in a pile, 5′ flames leaping out, rain creating billowing smoke, ringed in caution tape yet supervision nowhere in sight. This on top of the yellow pollen blanket. At least I know it won’t be an everyday occurrence.
Wearing Tabac Blonde today, of a newer concentration. I don’t mind the Cinnabon in there!
Currently tearing my hair out over some calculus. :p
Just the word ‘calculus’ made a few strands of hair fall off my head in sympathy.
I have fond memories of very early calculus, but they’re probably rosed up by my current academic problems.
This is one of the first nice things I’ve read about the new Tabac Blond, about which I’m still very curious. Could you share a few more impressions of it?
It’s the fact that Newton developed calculus for his physics that makes me tug on my hair! “Oh, gee, I’ll develop this branch of mathematics so that I can work on this other thing over here…”
Calculus, gosh. I did really well in my community college calculus for business majors, then quickly realized just how watered down that class was when I attempted a full blown Calc class later on. Switched out of that class asap!
All that to say, Good Luck!!!
Hump day indeed. I’m at the top of it looking down thinking, “crap, I still have that much more to go…” It’s been one of those weeks and today is the worst slump.
Although it’s cold out, I’d much rather be at a park than in the office. It’s always nice to wake up to a sunny day – even if it doesn’t feel so sunny.
I’m in Rose in No Man’s Land by Byredo. I think this is the only Byredo I’ve been thoroughly impressed by.
Oooh – you smell great! I smelled that at Aedes last fall and was tempted to drop the cash for a bottle on impulse, but thought better of it for financial reasons. The name is so good, but so is the smell. A straightforward rose with backbone, as I recall.
Sorry you’re having a bummer day honey. Hope the rose cheers you.
I really like Rose of No Man’s Land too. You smell great.
Lorelei from EnVoyage today, more purple than I remembered it smelling. Had fun hanging out with some Boston folk yesterday and I’ll probably eventually get the Narciso Musk Oil and I still need to get Oeillet Bengale. Tomorrow I go sniffing with my NY people at Osswald
Aw sorry I missed it. Well anyway, next time!
I was at the CambridgeSide Galleria Sephora on Saturday, and it looks like they’ve halved the scent selection. Was it the same at the Pru?
It’s been expanded at the Pru– some Tom Ford, Atelier Cologne, JHAG
I was at there on the day it opened and spoke to a very snotty young guy in the perfume department. He was really showing off his encyclopedic knowledge of what ingredients were in which perfumes and assuming I knew nothing about perfume. Strike one and strike two. Strike three was being rude to someone old enough to be his mother! What is it about these young men who are impolite to older women – could it be that we frighten them or are they secretly attracted or maybe both?
Ugly mannered folks are tough to be around. I try to make eye contact with their targets and roll my eyes like “whoa, what a douche – forget him” so they don’t feel targeted. Or mention “wow, that was unnecessary” to the target.
Rudeness gets my goat every time >:(
Ooh, lucky you! 🙂
I’m wearing Quel Amour! edt today, fun and mood boosting for a worrying and stressful day.
I tried Misia yesterday, and loved it, the violet is much more prominent than in Lipstick Rose, on my skin , so I think Misia would be a nice addition to my collection, maybe next year. Moulin Rouge was another winner for me in this category. Does anyone know of a UK stockist of HDP carrying the smaller sizes?
To me Misia, which I love, is nothing like Lipstick Rose, which I . . . um . . . don’t love? Maybe it’s the iris, but I also smell a truer rose and violet and that Chanel thing that I don’t always love but do here.
Because Chanel.
Lipstick Rose is a no no for me.
Mayfly HdP ships their fragrances to the UK (anywhere really) and they offer Moulin Rouge in 14 ml on line. Shipping is reasonable, around 8 euro’s I believe. But…if you run out of your sample I am happy to send you some more.
Thanks!, that’s really good to know, and very reasonable postage. off to have a look at they’re website now, hope you’re having a lovely evening.
Today I’m in Ormonde Jayne “Ta’if”. This already gets a lot of love here, so it won’t matter that it gets none from me. Nothing wrong with it per se, it’s just another disappearing perfume to add to the list.
Yesterday Kanuka had the first hat-and-gloves walk of the year, and today I have the first outdoor lunch where I feel real warmth from the sun. And my partner’s new passport has arrived so we can go ahead and book a holiday – I finish my current contract Friday so next week we’ll be overseas, yay! :^D
I am sorely tempted to offer to relieve you of the burden, even unsniffed.
No kidding!
Sadly (?) it’s just another 2ml sample, so by the time I know what to think of it it’s gone. Otherwise I would happily send it to a loving home. :^)
It’s frustrating though to read all the positive comments on Fragrantica and find it just doesn’t work on my skin.
If it’s any consolation, it also does nothing for me either. I was sure I’d love it based on the notes and general love but on me just a slightly annoying buzz in my ears, so to speak. Vive la difference!
It is a consolation, as is the thought that I’m half way through a week of roses and haven’t fallen in love with any of ’em. “Fun perfumes” week was ruinously expensive with 3 FBs bought off the back of it. :^D
Holiday! 1kg clothing, 29kg perfume.
Hmm not sure. Looks like we might be going to the South of France – total perfume desert, I hear. :^|
Poor you. I feel your pain.
SOTD: Ombre Rose, an oldie-but-goodie.
Running errands (laundry, supermarket, yadda-yadda) but rewarding myself with a trip to the arts’n’crafts store. I mean, it IS on the way….
Ombre Rose is beautiful but not often mentioned…..
It really is a shame that it’s kind of faded into the mist.
I had a bottle of that back in the day.
I got mine at an antique store, where someone had consigned a wonderful batch of minis. I’d love to see their full bottle collection…
I have to confess that I didn’t wear it often. I was still living at home at the time and my migraine prone mother used to complain whenever I wore it. I know that I didn’t finish the bottle. It probably got tossed eventually.
Oh no! It’s so sad when a family member has an adverse reaction to your scent. It’s for this reason that MKK is banned from my house. Though I like it, my spouse objects. Strongly.
I just found a 90 ml vat of this yesterday at a thrift store. The EdC in a black metal canister, so I’m pretty sure it’s intact, but for a wonky sprayer. I figured for 4.99$ if I didn’t love it, someone here might…
Wow! You did good! And hopefully you will love it!
Hooray for thrift scores! If they don’t work out, they’re an inexpensive regret… and if they DO work out, it’s treasure time!
I justify going to any place between my office and Penn Station (or from Penn to my office” as “it’s on the way” (a bubble tea place, an Eric Kayser bakery, Lush, a Duane Reade with a Look Boutique…). Thank God I imposed another rule which was if the light is in my favor, I cannot deliberately miss it just to get to one of these places.
Well played, well played… 😉
On the drive home from my weekly night shift, I listen eagerly to Fresh Air on NPR. I have been known to “avoid” “traffic jams” and “major road construction” to keep listening…
Morning all. I am so far behind on so many things I need to get done, and I wasn’t able to post in the past couple days, but I hope you’ve all been well.
(In a quick scan of the past few days I see that Mals is having a rough moment, and I just want to give a loving shout out to her – we’re all here for you dear, and sending our very best wishes. I hope our little community is able to provide some comfort and an escape when you need it.)
As for me, yesterday I whipped out L’arte di Gucci – possibly my favorite rose, which I was introduced to by the lovely AnnS – and wore it to see IGGY POP in concert. I figured a once in a lifetime event merited what I view as a once in a lifetime perfume, and neither disappointed. I smiled for two straight hours as that 68 year old man absolutely *killed* it and I’m still on a high.
You guys, he was so GOOD.
Oh, and today is Eau Suave by Parfums d’Empire. I may be busy, but I can’t miss rose week.
Thanks for the virtual hugs, ya’ll. I’m still motoring on with my stiffened upper lip.
Love L’Arte di Gucci, and Eau Suave is so nice too… I’m standing in need of softer roses at the mo.
Echoing ihadanidea’s loving shout with all my heart.
That sounds amazing! I’m a bit envious, but in a good way. 😉
Live music and good smell’in perfume -rock on
Glad you had a fabulous experience at the concert. It’s amazing how the great musicians keep enthralling generations over decades. So lucky to see him! He probably sensed your L’Arte di Gucci vibe.
Iggy Pop! That is so awesome. It’s amazing how still fully himself he is, isn’t it?
Ah that must have been a great show. I’d love to see him live. I checked tour dates but alas, no dates for Houston.
Wow, Iggy Pop. That’s fantastic to hear you had such a good time. Great concert experiences are one of the very best things in the world, imho, and they really do leave you with a lingering musical high, don’t they?!
A brilliant rose perfume! It’s one of my top three (the other two being vintage Nahema and Lyric Woman).
It does sound indeed like a once in a lifetime experience!! Awesome.
Fantastic combo! I’ve had a soft spot for Iggy since seeing him in the movie “Smoke and Cigarettes.” Lots of interesting vignettes in that one, and Cate was superb! (No surprise there.)
I love Eau Suave, too. Gonna have to rustle up my roses from winter storage.
sotd: Stella
(McCartney, I’m guessing?) You smell great!
Sampling Aerin Evening Rose. Nice bit of incense in this one which cut the initial sweetness. Sending good vibes out to everyone who is having a rough day/week/month.
I love Evening Rose. This is a sexy, grown-up type of rose. I really wanted to wear this one but had drained my mini bottle. 🙁
You smell great!
Like this one a bunch, I think it’s the best from the line.
It seemed a bit mild when I sniffled it in-store. Does anyone find they need a heavier application? Maybe I was too cautious.
I think I am just heavy-handed. I always apply heavier applications than most people. I probably over-apply. It pretty much lasts all day on me.
Drôle de Rose as well. Mostly anise today, but fun.
Hey twin!
MDCI Rose di Siwa today, a cloud of beauty.
Found out last night that my son IS actually going to prom. Which is SATURDAY. I mean, in-three-days Saturday. Of course he has neither a tux rented nor a corsage for his date ordered, so guess what Mom’s doing today??
Don’t you know that part of being a mom is to be a super hero and do everything ! Ha!
Glad for your son
My daughter went to prom, but that was completely different! I made her dress one year, and ordered her one the next. We went shoe-shopping. We planned her hair and jewelry. She even let me put mascara on her (she hates makeup). We planned for a place to take pictures, and all of that was done weeks ahead.
Boys…
Lol! You didn’t know that you were expected to handle it for him? That’s what moms are for.
I hope he enjoys it. Prom is one of those special events you will always remember.
Heh. Apparently he had planned to borrow his concert band tuxedo (his previous band director allowed that, he says), but the current director said no. So last night he comes home and says, “Oh, I guess I’ll wear my black suit to prom because Mr. Shrewsbury said we couldn’t borrow. No big deal.”
Me: WAITAMINNIT. So you don’t have a tuxedo? Do you have tickets?
Gaze: I bought the tickets.
Me: Do you have dinner reservations?
Gaze: Jeremy did that. [He’s going in a group of friends.]
Me: You got her a corsage?
Gaze: … uh. I’m supposed to?
Me: You didn’t remember this from Homecoming?? Gah! Okay, I’ll order one. What color is her dress?
Gaze: Cobalt blue.
Me: SIGH. Okay. I’ll order white since blues are tough to match. How about shoes?
Gaze: I guess I can borrow Dad’s?
Me: HOW DO YOU EVEN. Never mind. Meet me after track practice tomorrow and we will go PRAY somebody has a tux that will fit you.
It’s a good thing he’s a sweet kid.
Gosh but your son sounds like my son.
No wonder God never sent me a son, this sounds like my husband. I guess She figured I couldn’t handle both.
Good luck with all that! I think it is the way with guys – they really have no idea about these preparations. Take heart that even if he has to wear his black suit, and awesome tie will do the trick. That’s what everyone gets married in these days too…..
Hey Twin, I’m in Rose de Siwa today too. We smell gorgeous! 🙂
We do, twin!
MDCI Rose de Siwa is absolutely stunning
Oh, it is.
OMG! I can’t believe Gaze is already prom age! And I’m impressed that he was able to get as specific about the dress as “cobalt blue”.
I know. (eyes to heaven. Boys.) He’s actually pretty good with colors. Getting ready to head for the tux rental place in about 10 minutes… wish us luck.
Hahaha, lucky mommy!
🙂
SOTD is Fan di Fendi.
I’ve been talking myself out of getting a bottle for months and months. But my sample is basically gone, so….????
SOTD is Gucci EDP, from my fourth (or so) bottle. Sooooo good.
I agree! You smell sooooo good.
Staying warm in Epic today
Tea of the day is a large cappuccino
Lipstick is beach bum
One of my first outfits with no maternity jeans- I had to go 4 sizes but I am wearing normal jeans!
Congratulations 🙂 (Coffee is also my favorite kind of tea.)
You have such good taste–Lyric recently and Epic today. Those are on my list as soon as I can justify paying Amouage prices. I don’t even know how much money I’d have to earn for those prices to seem reasonable.
Reason seldom intervenes.
Woohoo, normal jeans!
Congrats on normal. 🙂
Hooray for the return to normal pants! I hope the transition back to work is going well so far.
Finally remembering to join in on the rose theme, today I’m wearing some Eau de Protection. Maybe a dribble too much for the office but that’s just how it goes sometimes.
You smell great! One of my favorite roses. Lucky office mates 😉
It’s rainy and chill (ah, by the standards of OK in April anyway) today, and I’m showing somebody around a bit later on, so I’ve tabled the roses and am wearing Dzing! I know when it gets too warm for it, I’ll miss it a lot.
<3 Dzing. (But I also love it in the heat, I confess!)
Well, maybe I’ll find I’ve no cause to miss it, then!
Wearing La Fille de Berlin. I like it, but it doesn’t make my heart stop, as it does for some people.
I enjoy Fille, but Lutens’s roses are not amongst my favourites, and I’m a rose lover.
He isn’t at his best with roses, is he? Ironically, when I smelled the export collection from the first time, many years ago, I thought Sa Majeste la Rose was the only one that smelled pleasant. I guess it was the only one my brain was able to process, others were too unusual.
No. Much better with abstract orientals. I do like Fille, but it somehow doesn’t really captivate me. I first tried Rossy at about the same time, and that one I love.
The first Lutenses that I tried were Ambre Sultan and A la Nuit. Sa Majesté was the third. I enjoy it, but not enough to want to own it. Are Lyric and Mohur your favourite roses?
That one did make my heart stop when I first smelled it, and I bought it on the spot only to swap it a year later. I love the smell and the juice color is brilliant, but it ended up irritating my head and throat 🙁 You do smell lovely, though!
Oh, that’s too bad 🙁 It does smell good, no arguing with that.
I find it fun and sort of refreshing, and strangers love it. But it isn’t too serious a perfume to me. You smell lovely regardless.
You smell fabulous!
My SOTD is L’Occitane Pamplemousse Rhubarb.
No roses today, as I’m still going through a grapefruit-scented kick. I have tried lots of pretty grapefruit scents over the last few months, and Pamplemousse Rhubarb is one of them. It doesn’t match the stormy weather we are having here in New Orleans though. It is supposed to rain here ALL day.
I just wrote this one down. I love grapefruit scents and I just recently discovered that I like rhubarb. It sounds interesting. I can’t wait to give it a try!
Is the rhubarb very noticeable or does the grapefruit tend to dominate?
I think its a good balance between the two. As the day goes on, the rhubarb may be taking over a teensy tiny bit. Not too much though, I can still smell the grapefruit.
Thanks for the info. I am on the hunt for rhubarb.
Have you tried the Molton Brown Rhubarb Rose shower gel? Its very nice!
Today is kind of a blowy Spring day, so I put on some vintage 19 straight from the tiny perfume bottle. In the interest of protecting the perfume from skin oil, I usually use the stopper to apply but today I thought, screw it and just used my finger to apply more scent. The intent is to use and enjoy rather than conserve till it goes bad all by itself. 🙂
Excellent plan! The right time to use precious things is never given to us, which is why we have to make that time for ourselves. 🙂
You said it. I had some VCA Bois d’Iris that went completely off because I was saving it and saving it. Strangely, 19 was the perfume that got me interested in perfumes. My mother used to wear it in the early 70’s and it’s a childhood scent memory for me. A few years ago I went kind of nuts and bought all sorts of 19, vintage, modern, EDP EDT and parfum and ended up selling all of it. Then I realized I had made a horrible mistake and acquired a small bottle of vintage parfum. In any case I think my favorite is EDT.
Today will be a dirty rose, Providence Perfume Co.’s Rose Boheme. I’m wearing a paisley boho top, so I’ve got a theme going on. This is a change from the happier roses of the last two days, Rose Jam on Monday (it was my birthday perfume) and Neil Morris Vanille Rose yesterday. So far rose week has been just right. 🙂
Sounds perfect. I’m putting that one on my list.
I love Rose Boheme. It’s my favorite scent from PPC. Sounds like your outfit is a great match for this scent.
This is a good one. You smell great!
SOTD is Keiko Macheri Attar de Roses. This is a lovely rose. It is rosy but subtle and seems very office friendly.
Nice! my dad drained a full bottle of this one (not even knowing that it isn’t really a unisex scent 🙂 !!)
What an awesome dad! I agree that a man can wear it.
Happy “Hump” Day! We woke up to dreary weather this morning after a late night thunderstorm! Some parts of Texas suffered a lot hail, but luckily, we just got the rain in Houston.
My SOTD is Jo Malone’s Rosewater and Vanilla. I actually gave my bottle of this to my mother because I hardly ever wore it. But, for this week’s challenge, I borrowed it. I’m not crazy about this scent, so I combined it with Jo Malone’s Nutmeg and Ginger. I guess the two fragrances together worked because one of my students got off the bus this morning and told me that I smelled really nice. 🙂
I guess this one wasn’t too popular because they discontinued it…I remember sampling it and thought it was nice. I like your layering combo 🙂 !!
Ahh, Nutmeg & Ginger….my favorite JM….you smell terrific!
I am wearing Gres Cabaret. I love the rosewater softness backed by incense and lemon.
I am drinking a cup of mysterious (I haven’t deciphered the Hanzi on the package) Chinese green. It is very fresh with a bamboo sap flavor.
Cabaret is great!
Cabaret is so good!
I’m much more familiar with maple sap. What kind of flavor does bamboo sap have? Are all saps sweet? (Well, not pine sap I guess)
Finally starting rose week and wearing Mohur today. I remember it being beautiful, but it’s exceeding my recollection. That’s uplifting on a day when I’m otherwise in a total and complete panic about the cost of weddings (I say this as someone who really thought I could keep the price in check).
I really hear you–as much as I appreciate the pushback against the idea every wedding has to be opulent, sometimes I think the low-budge, DIY rhetoric can become almost dishonest in the intimation that elbow grease and the change in your sofa is all an enterprising person needs to host a big event like a wedding. I mean we all understand that even taking, say, 20 people out to dinner would be a non-trivial expense anywhere this side of a fast-food joint, and that’s even before you consider literally any other features like a ceremony or dancing, or maybe more than nine guests apiece! I wish there were more discussion of like, yes things cost something, is that what you want, y/n; the sense you should be magically able to transcend this feels so burdensome!
Oh man, I can’t agree with this enthusiastically enough. No, I don’t want real diamonds scattered across my 24k-gold frosted cake, but I’m also not a master carpenter with dozens of musician friends with reception-sized gardens who glassblow, make origami centerpieces, and cater parties just for fun in their free time. Things do, in fact, cost money, and frequently, it’s because it takes more skill and more resources than average people (like me) have in order to do or make.
Not sure if this is helpful, but I recently stayed in a hotel that was historic, architecturally beautiful but not elaborate or expensive. Two couples were married in that time on the building’s front walkway – it had a circular-patterned brick entryway with french doors and some nice landscaping. They each provided one large floral arrangement, but there didn’t appear to be any catering commitment as the hotel didn’t have the capability. Not something I’d seen before.
Wedding planning is a racket, for sure. The best money we spent was on an awesome day of coordinator, and we used her help for planning, too. Worth every penny in the long run. Things happened that day but we didn’t have any idea because she handled it smoothly. Of course, we had lots of guests, so YMMV if smaller.
Congratulations! And give yourself a break from the planning grind when opportunities present themselves. 🙂 xo
Spotted my bottle of Chergui in my collection and just had to put some on. It’s sunny where I am, but chilly enough to enjoy Chergui, which I like in cooler weather.
you smell wonderful. I put on Chergui before bed a few days ago after not having worn it in about 6 months. I was so happy to find that it was even better than I remembered.
Testing Olympic Orchids Ballets Rouges this morning.
I think that is great rose perfume. You smell delicious.
That is a good one – my bottle is in Montreal, will be happy to wear it again soon!
That IS a good one.
Vetting Agent Provocateur today. Paired it with the sweetly smiling roses contained in Body Shop Atlas Mountain Rose Body Butter. Really deliciously old fashioned. Very much a rose Chypre with quite a bit of skank.
I’m very curious to try this one. Maybe next time I want free shipping at Fragrancenet.
Love the AP dry down. And I find it’s tenacious on me!
I’ve been offline… No internet in new apt downstairs yet, so am in old apartment, which still has soft stuff to be moved (furniture is moved, so we do have a real home). And the cleaning faces me….ugh.
I did put away the fragrances into their new home. I just grabbed a Demeter Black Ginger, and will do a rose later. I may try my layer of Aliage and Rosine Une Zeste de Rose. I know that sounds odd, but there is something in the latter that bothers me, and Aliage seems to lessen that. Aliage also seems to layer well…not sure why.
I’m in that same moving boat-they’re moving our stuff in now. But I still have my perfume in the old apt so I’m feeling a bit naked. And the cleaning. Blech. Good luck to both of us!
Prayers and wishes for a good move today!
Good luck to you both. I’m always shocked at how long cleaning takes at move in and move out. In between not so much: familiar dirt is less threatening. 🙂
Ha this is so true. I actually kinda like deep-cleaning things, feels satisfying–but for sure I do not feel the same compulsion about it in my own home that I do when moving into a new place!
I have an internal interview at work today, and I believe the competition is rather stiff, and I’m hardly at my best these days, so I’m in a few discreet swipes of Mohur, for the glory of it.
Good luck! May Mohur give you that extra dash of specialness…
I hope Mohur gives you all the help you need!
good luck!
I’m having a late start to the day and trying to decide between Paestum Rose, Rossy de Palma, and Ayoon al Maha.
If you haven’t decided yet, Paestum Rose! That’s such a interesting sheer incense rose.
I have mid-week burn out this morning, and I have to go to a luncheon this afternoon. SOTD is No 5 Eau Premiere to give me that extra something-something that only No 5 can bring.
I’m sure it will help! You smell gorgeous.
Oh, have fun AnnS!
you smell lovely.
I had that yesterday! Eau Premiere can give a nice lift!
Hiram Green’s Voyage this morning which is so good on the right day. Now my nose is so blocked I can’t smell it anymore. My strong milky Tetley tea just tastes like hot water!
I hope that you feel better soon and can smell your lovely perfume.
Thank you for your kind words.
I was up for several hours during last night and overslept this morning as a result. I managed to grab my decant of Rose de Siwa on the way out the door which is making me feel more pulled together. It’s so lovely.
Portrait of a Lady today. I haven’t worn this one in a while and it’s another all time favorite.
So so good. You smell great.
Back at work, and feeling way better. Slept TONS yesterday and drank like 4-5 cups of herbal tea. I really do feel restored and very focused today!
SOTD: Rose Jam shower gel by Lush along with the remaining sample of Velvet Rose and Oud by Jo Malone. I smell very rose/berry-ish/woody soapy, if that makes any sense!
OOTD- A bit chilly today! Grey silk tunic, green scarf, white jeans teal suede sneakers- and my green cardigan to stay warm this morning!
I find synthetic ouds can be difficult on my skin but I really like this one…there is a sweetness to it that agrees with me…but then again I also like JM Bergamot & Oud (which isn’t exactly sweet)…..but yesterday’s Rose Anonyme that I applied later in the day just didn’t work for me….wish they made the cologne intense in smaller sizes!
Yes- what ever that JM is using is not screechy and harsh at all. There is a roundness to it, a softness, and it even thought it is artificial, the Rose and Oud by JM is really lovely! I was super lucky and got a few samples of it, so I am so glad I had some for this chilly morning.
I’m wearing Éclatant by Parfums de la Bastide today…never heard of this house before but I got a sample from Needless Markup.
It smells eerily like Orange Sanguine. Eerily, I tell you! Dead ringer.
I think Orange Sanguine is ok but it doesn’t have any depth to me…light and linear and not terribly interesting to my nose and this one is the same.
He! he! and I LOVE Orange Sanguine……instant smile on my face whenever I spray it or smell it on someone else!
Au Dela, though it’s so chilly in my office I’m wishing I’d gone with something cozier!
Fell asleep last night craving Bottega Vaneta, so BV it is. Thank God for sunshine. Amen.
More soapy dirty-hair No5 EDC. I always get a different facet of a fragrance when I wear it. Today, I was very happy to sniff an amazing, precious sandalwood drydown in the afternoon . . . and then I thought a spritz of jasmine would make it even more so.
Cue A la Nuit with its HOWDY I’M A JASMINE!!!! and hey presto I butchered my little private sandalwood moment. Ah well.
😀
Have to train a visiting scholar on some applications, so I have a moderate amount of Mohur spritzed onto me and my black cashmere jacket. I am sure the physician won’t care at all. She will be focused on figuring out how to use our systems, but I feel better dressed up to do this sort of training.is of my compatriots wear jeans and hiking boots. 🙂
Great choices! Dressing nicely shows respect for both the guest and oneself.
I often wonder about dressing up. I would do the same as Meredifay in her situation. My problem is when I have to go on stage at writers festivals as I always feel completely uncomforatble if I dress up ( especially if I wear a dress and nice shoes) but i think that i should as it shows respect for the paying audience. But then I wonder if the audience is more interested in seeing the ‘real’ me ( jeans and converse). I hate being on stage…makes me nervous just thinking about it.
Kanuka, I’d agree that the artistic situation is a bit different and that you should wear what you feel more comfortable in on stage. And you’re right, the occasion is about you rather than your organization or job.
BTW, I once attended a Star Trek convention and saw Patrick Stewart speak. He was wearing faded blue jeans, a crisp white shirt, open at the neck, and trainers or sneakers. Nothing rumpled or worn, but decidedly casual.
Something about meredifay’s visiting scholar physician sounded potentially more formal to me. Partly I jumped to the conclusion of an international visitor, although there’s nothing to indicate that in what she said.
Of course. Being in a professional situation as a host or giving a lecture is quite different and requires thought and thoughtfulness and a hint of gravitas. In New Zealand there is a term that gets bandied around a lot : tidy casual ( and that would describe Patrick Stewart’s outfit). The interesting thing is that at most festivals the women dress ‘tidy casual’ or ‘ Sunday best’ and the men wear everyday clean clothing…so I tend to notice the different expectations in relation to gender. Anyway, I always wear perfume and stand up straight.
Well, Patrick Stewart would look like an authority figure if he wore a loin cloth!
A loincloth! There’s an image. At least we didn’t have proms in NZ (probably do now) . I’ve just been reading Mals’ comments and they sound even scarier.
SOTD = NVC Mohur Extrait
This was going to be Friday’s SOTD and then I thought to myself “I can wear this today AND Friday and/or any day if I wanted to!” So here we are.
Today, I noticed a lot of cardamom. Has anyone noticed that cardamom smells like unsweetened peach?
NYC fumies meet up tomorrow (6PM) at Osswald NYC. There’s a special event – launch of the Il Profumo line there.
Hmm.. I’d never thought about cardamom that way. Now I want to go sniff some cardamom and see if I get that. I think peach and cardamom go well together so it makes sense that they might have some facets in common.
I probably should smell cardamom on its own. I’ve always thought of it as a nutty fruit-like versus fruity nut-like even though it’s neither a fruit nor a nut.
A friend of mine is working on getting me hooked on Penzey’s Spices. She gave me a sample of ground cardamom that blew my mind. I had no idea it was so multifaceted. Fruity, musky, sharp, soapy, peppery, sweet. I could hang my nose over that little jar for hours.
Also, I went a-Googling in my curiosity and I found a recipe for peach-cardamom lemonade that sounds pretty great.
http://joythebaker.com/2014/08/peach-and-cardamom-lemonade/
That’s a great site! Found some yummy recipes there????
That sounds really good. Let me know how it tastes after you make it 😉
Oooh, I’m curious to mnow how it is once you’ve made it!
That sounds like fun!
I am looking forward to it!
Me too ????
Yesterday just flew away from me so I didn’t get a chance to post. I entered all my samples into my Basenotes wardrobe, cleared off the top of the vanity table and filed the samples according to house. While organizing I realized that my collection has spilled out (see what I did?) onto the top of the perfume cabinet and there is no room for anything more inside, partly because I keep them in their boxes, but that’s not going to change. I am still holding to my vow of purging anything that isn’t facing forward in November but I think I may start sooner. I know there are some that I bought because I “ought” to like them but I just don’t, and they can go now (current Apres l’Ondee, looking at you.) Anyway, I’m wearing Hiris again today, and liking it a lot. Hugs to anybody that needs one!
Wanted to tell you that if you go to the Pacifica sale on the weekend DO checkout the soy candles!!!! I have used them for years and the selection on line is getting smaller and smaller so I am wondering if they are being phased out…if so they would probably be discounted as well….
Thanks for the heads up!
I’ll take the hug because…I’m just greedy that way! 😀
Anytime!
Foxbins, does your Apres l’Ondee smell of sharp alcohol? I “should” like it but the version I got from a swap seems better-suited to lift ink or remove nail polish.
There’s an initial alcohol smell but it dissipates in less than a second. It’s just pale and watery-smelling, and I much prefer En Passant to Al’O. I can see how the vintage could be stunning, but this is not.
I’m wearing l’Ombre dans l’Eau today, in search of a spring-y vibe.
My oldest version of Hermes Caleche EdT, in which I’m noticing a lot of rose today. The Black Narcissus cherishes this perfume as one of “The Beloved” and sums it up:
“…a Parisian stripling thriving with life: morning avenue branches filtering lime-green sunlight onto the new day below. The air sharp and fresh: the carriage and its horses awaiting: all of those present secure, anticipating; and turned out impeccably. We sense that something is to happen on this brisk spring day that brims with potential…..”

What a gorgeous description!
Neil is a terrific writer – what a superb, apt description!
Wearing the lovely Rosabotanica. The woody opening is so nice. Longevity isn’t great though. But I would consider a bottle if the price was right…????
I decided to layer today, so I’m wearing Queen body butter layered with Cacharel Amor Amor, with a bit of Nemat Ruh Gulab (rose) attar for good measure. I smell pretty good if I may say so myself. 🙂
I love Nemat attars. You smell great!
Sampling Amouage Lyric today. Its really lovely, reminds me of Parfum Sacre but more of a all seasons scent. It lasts long too. Oh dear….
Lyric is lovely isn’t it? The great thing about Lyric or any Amouage offerings is that they last a long time, even the ones you love.
It is really lovely
People should know that fragrancenet has tester bottles of Amouage perfumes and when they are having one of the 30 percent off coupons, Lyric becomes somewhat affordable. Not to enable or anything 😉
Ooh good to know! 🙂
Wearing Deneuve today. I don’t wear this one enough.
I’m wearing Pacifica Persian Rose today. I’m using its uplifting scent to think positive, healing thoughts for a college friend, whom I learned last night has been in the ICU for several days.
I forgot! Scent-related news: a couple in Lancashire found a big chunk of ambergris.
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/apr/13/lancashire-couple-whale-vomit-ambergris-middleton-sands
Brilliant – what a find.
Persian Rose is a nice one. I like to layer it with the Tibetan incense one.
Sending healing thoughts for your ill friend.
Thank you. I got a message from a mutual friend a while ago that it appears the unimaginable has happened and she’s passed away. Waiting around trying to get any other news or confirmation is driving me nuts.
Oh, I’m so very sorry; it sounds like the news was unexpected? Makes it even harder to bear if so. Sending comforting hugs your way.
That sounds like a nice combo.
I like Persian Rose but was really miffed when it replaced my beloved Egyptian Bergamot Rose….and I hope it all works out for your college friend…..
Re. my friend, thank you (and please see above). Don’t you hate when something you love gets replaced? I had the Egyptian Bergamot Rose soap once.
I hope your friend will be ok. Your post reminded me that I have a solid of Persian Rose that I haven’t used in a while. I like the idea of layering it with Tibetan Mountain Temple, but I never see that one around anymore. It’s still on their website so apparently it’s not discontinued. The Whole Foods where I used to get my Pacifica stuff seems to be phasing out the fragrances. Maybe I need to check one of the bigger stores.
Thanks (again, please see my other comment above). I have several of the Pacifica scents in solid, and I think at least one of them went off a bit since there’s no artificial preservatives; I’ll have to check the others. The Tibetan Mountain Temple doesn’t seem to be available many places, and it appears that it’s only made in the spray size now. Bummer.
Work gets in the way sometimes ????
SOTD, I’m almost embarrassed to admit, Queen. Yup. Again. It was really handy and I was in a rush. For real. Tomorrow I’m gonna go “all serious perfumista” and wear something respectable!
Gonna catch up with comments after work. Cheers all!
I was wondering when you would get around to Queen again 🙂 …
I’m so predictable ????
I used my Queen body butter today, so.. sorta twins! 😀
Definitely twins, Sister! You smell fab????
So I got Queen of Hearts yesterday and I’m happy to send you some if it remains elusive. True to form, the outer packaging did not have a price tag. When I told the cashier that it was $9.99 and that the tag was inside the outer wrap. She looked at me like I was nuts and conferred loudly with the other cashier who said it can’t be $9.99 because look, it’s a big bottle (ummm okay, size doesn’t distinguish the juice inside whether it be quality or the per mL price). Anyway, my cashier then peeled open the outerwrap and bingo, there was the $9.99 price tag.
Badda Bing-o! Fabulous find! Thanks for the generous offer to share, but suffice it to say Queen of Hearts has not played elusive. Hope you thoroughly enjoy it ????
Thanks to an NST friend who so kindly shared a decant with me, I’m wearing Kilian’s Good Girl Gone Bad which surely must qualify as one of the all-time most misnamed fragrances! I understand it’s another Morillas, whose work I really like evidently, but this pretty, office-friendly jasmine does not have a “bad girl” bone in her body. I’m delighted to have been surprised with a decant to spend some time wearing, because the mismatch between name and juice made me wrongly dismiss this as a disappointment when I smelled on paper–in fact it’s really lovely and a treat to wear on a sunny spring day. Petition for it to be renamed in better acknowledgement of its virtues! 🙂
Bad Girl Turns Over a New Leaf? 😉
Eternally Good Girl Always Remembers Your Birthday, Brings Freshly Cut Flowers From Her Charming Yet Not Overly Fussy Garden 😉
🙂
Next Friday’s theme is misnamed perfumes, if you fancy giving this one another blast so soon. :^)
It is right on the money for that one!
I’m in favor! We could have a lot of fun with that poll idea, Koenigsberg!
Good news, it’s on the docket! https://nstperfume.com/scent-of-the-day-friday-community-projects-2016/
I can claim no credit – the idea is Dilana’s. Because I have to pack each weekend for the week ahead, I look at Robin’s upcoming themes for perfume inspiration. I’m looking forward to reading other people’s ideas next week, but know too little to have ideas of my own. :^)
When I bought my snake atomizer a few years back, I chose Good Girl Gone Bad from whatever that series is called.
Oh nice! Is that refillable?
Accidentally used up the rest of my Union Gunpowder rose sample in one go. Don’t know if this will be appreciated at the gym later.
Whew! Project deadline has passed. Went home and got 12 hours of sleep. Thanks for the well wishes!
Today I’m celebrating by trying to answer the question “can you OD on iris?” Layered Prada Infusion d’Iris over iris soap. Also have Naomi Goodsir Iris Cedre on my left wrist, and Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist on my right wrist. I’m still alive, so I think the answer is “nope.” 😉
Sorry Robin, but I’m having too much fun to participate in Rose week…
Fun is more important for sure!
(and especially iris fun)
While looking for roses, I tried Au Pays Rose Irisee. You can have your rose in the name but all the iris you crave!
Oooh, taking notes. I have not explored the Au Pays line.
Like a number of others wearing Mohur today – and I am realizing that if forced, this is one perfume I could happily wear daily. I’d want an iris chaser now and again, but I could survive.
TWINS!!!!!!
Ditto!
The theme for Friday got my working through my box of rose perfume decants to see how I really feel about what’s in there. So far, Rose Poivree (which no one talks about any more) isn’t working for me–kind of dry and too sharp. I really disliked Montale Roses Elixir, a very fruity and artificial smelling scent. On the other hand, I quite liked Montale Taif Roses, which smelled to me like an authentic dark rose.
Who knows by Friday I might be too sick of roses to wear them so just for the record my top three are: vintage Nahema, L’ Arte di Gucci, and Lyric Woman. I’d love to find a perfect rosy rose. The closest I came to that was Montale Highness Rose, which I only have a tiny sample of.
Is that TDC Rose Poivree? I think I’m one of the few who really likes that one, especially in warm weather. I think they’ve changed the formula (way less civet, apparently)and mine is newer batch.
Have you tried Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Taif? I think it’s a pretty rosy rose. Rich red rose. Smells fairly natural, too.
I like Une Rose Poivrée too!
I wore Rose Poivree yesterday – my sample must be an older one because it was pretty rank for a bit. I like it, although have not worn it out. Close to the skin, the roses are gorgeous.
I don’t know if this is helpful, but I had noted Gaynor’s fondness for La Rose by Galion, so I made an effort to smell it on Sunday. I really liked it: true, deep rose notes, and something rather dirty (not manure) and interesting as well. You might like that as a rosy rose, perhaps.
Ah, Highness Rose. I have 2mls of it, think it’s pretty, and never wear it… if you’d like it, please let me know.
Carol, what a generous offer! I’d love to take you up on it, if it’s not too much trouble.
I’ll try emailing you! (On Thursday. I’m tired. 🙂 )
It’s worth trying Yosh Sottile, a very natural, dewy rose.
Hi, all. I’m bouncing off to work today in L’Ombre dans L’Eau, which I am coming to adore. I bought it as a “Hmmm, whatever we here? How interesting!” perfume, but it’s rapidly becoming a love. It’s not madly rosy, but the shifting hint of rose scent on the breeze is just lovely. The silly weather app says the temp will hit the low twenties, but what does it know? I’m cold, so I’ve teamed L’Ombre with a rust shirt, black jeans, and a rather odd jacket that looks a little like a riding coat and makes me feel I should be shouting, “Stand and deliver!” I look appropriately autumnal and quite ordinary on the outside, but on the inside, I feel quizzical and willing to be inappropriately amused by everything….
You’ve come to the right place for that… ;^)
You smell wonderfully interesting! I think it’s that tomato leaf and black currant combo that smells rosy. And maybe the rose note… It was one of my newbie loves and I still keep a decant around, but I’ve really fallen for the candle these days.
It’s still coolish here and I’m looking forward to summer, but there’s something about your leaving Summer and approaching Autumn that makes me nostalgic for Fall.
L’Ombre dans l’Eau is one of my favorite summer perfumes. Great outfit and attitude, too!
I love that perfume as much for its name as its scent. That would be a good Whanganui river scent.
I’m thinking that too!
I’m in MFK Cologne pour Le Soir since I have a decant in my bag.
Now to start unpacking, which is way more tolerable than packing.
We’re back in the Brooklyn neighborhood we lived in for 14 years and have been gone for less than 2 years. It’s incredible what has popped up here in those 2 years. We went to a new kosher-style(but, really, hipster-style) delicatessen at noon for a lunch break and they were already sold out of most of their meats! Crazy zee.
Yes, I have heard that Brooklyn is the new Manhattan (same to be said for Long Island City……)
Today I decided to wear Le Galion Cologne Nocturne and at the moment I’m wafting my newly arrived Prada Purple Rain.
I have to go back to the Prada boutique to try Purple Rain — I think that was the one I kept re-sniffing having tried the entire line.
I’m having to catch up with NST in the evenings these days – some kind of autum-induced disorganisation in the mornings. I love rose, so my list of things to try is grown fast!
Paestum Rose for me today, I love this one and don’t know why I haven’t worn it for ages.
Another rollerball-at-work day: Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom.
That’s such a good one!! I use the tester everytime I shop at Sprouts Farmers Market….one day it will make my shopping cart! LOL
Oh, that’s a favorite of mine. You smell great!
I have a bottle of this and love it for a quick pick me up!
