Monday's ugly little sister, yes, but also Caramel Day and Deep Dish Pizza Day, and Bette Davis's birthday, so there is some consolation. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a very old version of S-Perfume 100% Love, by Sophia Grojsman.
Reminder: On 4/8, wear a perfume by Sophia Grojsman, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are Haigh's Chocolates Dark Rose Cream: "A delicate rose flavoured fondant cream, enrobed in premium dark chocolate then decorated with a crystallised flower." $32.50 AUD.
Enjoying in the last few days for a spritz of Portrait of A Lady before the warm weather turns it into an inferno of cloves and burnt roses.
It’s so cold here it’s hard to imagine any inferno of anything. Brrr.
still below freezing here too, but the sun is shining, and no snow!, ….yet, anyway.
Something about caramel, deep dish pizza and Bette Davis sounds like the ultimate trifecta to me. They all go together really well.
I’m in Aedes de Venusta by L’Artisan today. Maybe it’s because I’m using a dabber sample, but this is very faint on me, which is a shame. I think I like it – a lot. May have to dump the rest on myself when I get home.
And I do not think of that as a faint scent!
I thought I dabbed on a good amount today too! But it’s already very faint on me. I’m sure the really cold weather this morning isn’t helping.
I’ve totally fallen for that one. So beautiful. But I had the same problem with faintness, actually, do try putting more on.
That candy looks amazing!
SOTD is a super cheap, unplanned, and successful blind buy that occurred yesterday. I stopped at TJMaxx while running errands and as always, went to the fragrance section. The usual Justin Bieber and Jessica Simpson stuff greeted me. But lo and behold, I spied a bottle of Queen (3.4 oz for 9.99!) and thought it was worth a try since I had read some positive reviews.
The initial blast was nuclear but it settles very quickly to a lovely woody, patchy, gourmandy scent that I really enjoy. It doesn’t have tremendous push, so perfectly wearable for an everyday scent without having to worry about gassing anyone out. 9.99 well spent, I’d say.
Oh, fantastic buy — that’s a great scent.
I think you convinced me to pick this one up, the next time I run across it! I’ve passed it up a couple of times already…..
I’ve seen that at my local Marshall’s before. Thanks for taking the risk and for your impressions. Maybe I’ll risk it next time I see it.
Queen is a nice one. I got my bottle free with Walgreens’ points, a blind buy, too, but I wasn’t disappointed. Queen of Hearts is also good, plummy and spicy.
Today I’m in Ultrared by Paco Rabanne, the summer edition they released a few years ago. It came out the same year as 1 million I think, and I always hoped they’d keep this one in production instead! It is most definitely a gourmand and really suits todays picture.
1 Million appears to have won that battle 😉
Signature Black Mark (Jack Black). 🙂
I like it 🙂
Vintage Narcisse Noir
Woah, that’s a beauty. What’s the occasion?
sotd: ELdO Afternoon of a Faun
I love Faun. The maple syrupy immortelle is just the thing for a cold snowy day here. I’m going to copy you and make it my scent du jour!
it’s unseasonably cold here, so that’s the reason I chose Faun 🙂
Those chocolates. I want some of those chocolates! They look scrumptious.
I’m in By Kilian Rose Oud, my favorite rosy oriental, on this winter day in April.
You smell great!
One of my favorites – you smell stunning!
so good. you smell incredible.
You smell incredible!
Wearing vintage Miss Dior today. It’s just a Dior type of day, especially if it is vintage.
Wonderful. Every day could be a Dior day if I had some of the vintage. Too bad, I have to settle for smelling it on my mom. You smell lovely!
Sometimes you do find some pretty good or decent deals at thrift stores, Goodwill or Ebay. Just got to keep a look out for them. I do wish that I had more but I don’t.
You smell good! One of my springtime vintage favorites.
Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate. I made more yummy rhubarb almond cake and prefer to smell the perfume than eat the entire cake. I love the bright opening on this one and find it still juicy with a hint of the tangy after the drydown.
Thank goodness I can’t order those beautiful Haigh’s chocolates here, unless Donatella forgives us for those too. But looking at her, that is doubtful.
That cake sounds delicious!
That cake sounds fantastic! I love almond and rhubarb.
The cake and perfume sound perfect and I love the idea of sniffing perfume as an alternative to cake – although the cake does sound very good…
Check Epicurious and read the comments.
Oh my goodness, I’d trade my sample of Rhubarbe Ecarlate for a slice of that cake.
Don’t you love it when you think… “what is smelling so good”…only to realise it is a trace of yesterday’s scent (in my case Heure Exquise)?
Later today I will wear some Like This.
Heure Exquise…….. love
One of various shared loves Perfume Sniffer!
ooo I just got a small decant of this from the swap, and I really love it. you smell great!
It is such a beauty, I am sure you will only love it more Elizabeth. FB worthy if you ask me, in both EdT and EdP!
I love when that happens too! And HE is a great one to smell later on. The lingering sandalwood is awesome!
Sampling Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme today. Indian milk fudge isn’t really me.
Boston meetup tomorrow at Colonial Drug at 5:45 (take two for me) and next Tues at the Pru at 5:30
Also, I’ll be in NY on the 14 if people want to meetup then
How do you like Noir Femme? I have already used up a decant, think I’m going to need a bottle next fall
Noir Femme is way too dense on me. Definitely not buying this one
I liked it but it didn’t last long on me.
Cherryblossomdiva dupe of Monyette Paris (she’s on eBay) which is a surprise gift from a wonderful perfume friend. It is 22F with snow today, I need that tropical paradise scent!
Snow!!
SOTD: Body Shop White Musk EdT. When I’m in a hurry (or being indecisive!), this is an easy one that works anytime…..
Smelly news: Any NST folks use Scent Trunk? I ran across a free trial offer on Basenotes, so I’m giving them a try. They donate 1.5% of profits to Brain and Behavior Research, to look for cures for mental illness. I work in psych, and mental illness is a cause dear to my heart, so I’m glad to give this company a try…..
Have a great Tuesday, Y’all! 🙂
Totally off topic (so I hope you don’t mind my inquiry) but if I am not mistaken did you not mention that you are a pharmacist in a prior comment? The reason I ask is I am trying to talk my nephew (who is in high school now) to consider pharmacy as a major when he goes to college…he is really interested and good at science…he want to do something in genetics but I think pharmacy would be more practical and he would instantaneously get a decent job upon graduation without having to go for a PhD which he would if he pursued genetics (correct me if I am wrong). Also, it is my understanding that when you are accepted into a pharmacy program you automatically get into the masters program (as long as you maintain the minimum GPA that the school requires) and you do need a masters for pharmacy, right? Are there any other job options with such a degree aside from working in a drug store? Hope you don’t mind me asking (if you do, just disregard this comment!)
Ack! the grammar is off everywhere but I think you get my drift! I am typing this at work (a big NO! NO!) so didn’t proof before I hit “reply”!
This might be more info than you wanted! HA HA 🙂
I don’t mind answering a bit! Yes, I’m a pharmacist…I work at a GA state psychiatric hospital. If your nephew decides on pharmacy school, he’ll finish with a PharmD (doctor of pharmacy). From there, he can either do a residency in a field of interest (such as psych, pediatrics, etc) OR he can go straight into a general retail or hospital pharmacy. I worked retail for many years, but moved to hospital when I was ready for kids (because the hours here are much better)…. With a residency, he could move into a more clinical position right away, sitting with the hospital teams and making drug decisions with the physician. Instead of a residency, I went to work at Eckerd and finished my MBA at night. I was thinking I might enjoy working in drug industry side, but in the end I like the clinical side so much better! 🙂
Here in Georgia, the job market is pretty saturated, because instead of 2 pharmacy schools (when I was a student 20 years ago), there are 4! Several other states have also added schools too, so it’s not quite as easy to find work in Atlanta as it used to be. BUT…depending on the area of the country, some areas are still constantly looking for pharmacists! As the baby boomers continue to retire, there will always be jobs….Pay is good and the benefits typically are too.
***Students that do their clinical rotation here with me typically owe about $250,000 in student loans when they graduate though!!!! Keep that in consideration!! I’ve been out for 20 years, and still owe $60,000 all these years later!!!! I will have loan forgiveness in a few more years, because I work for the Govt….****
Of course, genetics are the up and coming thing in healthcare, so Nephew will be just fine, no matter what he chooses! We have genetics/lab coming out and doing mouth swabs on some of our patients, to determine which drugs might work best for their mental illness!! WOW! Some of long term schizophrenics have tried EVERYTHING…so narrowing down the best class of meds by genetics is pretty awesome!!
oh my goodness…thank you for all of that information! I really appreciate it and will surely share it with him! The student loan situation is a bit off putting, though! He lives in the Northeast and wants to go to a state university so maybe it won’t be as expensive if he can get into a pharmacy program….His dad tells him that any career in the medical field should be good (his sisters are looking into nursing) but if there was a way to tie the pharmacy into genetics I think that would be the ticket for him….again…thank you for all of the information 🙂 (I know it isn’t perfume related so I really appreciate it!)
The whole pharmacy/genetics thing is THE way medicine is headed….If he’s interested in both, he’ll probably be high sought after graduation!!
YES…a state school will be much less. I went to Mercer Univ, which is private. In hindsight, I wish I’d gone UT or UGA! (I’m from TN)….
Glad to share info!! I enjoy having students and such…. 🙂
I hope you don’t mind my commenting here…I have a personal interest in this combo. If he isn’t aware of it already, I’d suggest your nephew research the President’s Precision Medicine Initiative, targeted at identifying genetic causes of various illnesses, mental included. He also might want to look at NIH’s website, particularly research grants being awarded to see where the field is headed (I get that he’s not doing research – yet). NIH’s budget for mental illness research increased substantially this year.
Oh I don’t mind your commenting at all! Thank you for all of that great information! I will refer him to the site you mentioned! He is far from doing research as he is only in high school but his dad is on top of him to try to figure out what he wants to major in before he even applies to college (nowadays you can’t enter college without knowing your major because most of the science fields have you up and running with pre-requisite classes from day one! Gone are the days of declaring your major in your junior year!). I will also pass on this info to his sister…she is interested in the mental health field as well. An older family friend who has a PhD in psychology advised her to get her nursing degree and become a psychiatric nurse practioner.
Thank you Jadain and Sciciliana for your invaluable advice!
SOTD is Jour d’Hermes Absolu, from a sample given by a generous NSTer in the last swapmeet (thanks!). I thought I didn’t like grapefruit but Jour has really grown on me and I wanted to try the Absolu for some time now. Unfortunately, my sample of the original is long gone, so I can compare the two side by side. I’d like to hear your thoughts on both!
I love Jour! Waiting for summer to break it out, but really it is nice any time. I have both and think the absolu is more softer and more floral. The original is so zesty that it makes my mouth tingle (literally, feels very strange). Both are good, but very similar to each other, so maybe not worth it to have both. You smell wonderful!
Ha! “more softer”, oh dear. Need more coffee. And tea.
I have not yet had the pleasure of testing the Absolu, but I adore the original.
SOTD is Dior Homme Intense, after yesterday’s Dior Homme. Intense is spicier, and the cardboard note at the top was there but gone more quickly. Will see how this one develops over the course of the day.
I love the original Dior Homme, but have been hesitant to try the Intense. Maybe I should get a sample. Maybe the cardboard note was due to the lavender/leather combo?
Could be the lavender/leather – I get a slight cardboard note from some other floral leathers. Hubby came in a few minutes ago and declared his approval of today’s scent, and did yesterday as well so he’s no tie-breaker. 😉 The Homme lasted really well yesterday, and it was pretty wonderful all day – I’m very interested to see what this spicier, warmer Intense version does.
Okay, it’s lunchtime and the Homme Intense has become Homme Imperceptible. I would swear I sprayed with equal abandon yesterday (Dior Homme) and today (Homme Intense). More experimentation is prolly in order, but I think the Homme Regulaire is winning the smackdown.
SOTD is Narciso Rodriguez EDT. The one in the taller black bottle. I wonder if they regret the naming choices now that the line has grown.
Their naming is insane, I can’t keep them straight! The black bottle is supposedly the EDT and focuses on orange blossom, which is quite different from the EDP which focuses on rose. So confusing, but very pretty and well done. You smell good!
I can’t keep track of it either which makes it challenging for my small brain to remember what I’ve tested. It reminds me a lot of the whole Ferre Ferre Gianfrance Ferre Ferre GFF catastrophe.
😀 Or the Eau d’Isseys! Too bad they’re usually not good enough for people to ask what you’re wearing. Can you imagine telling somebody “I’m in Ferre Ferre Gianfrance Ferre Ferre GFF”? They’d think you’re crazy! And yet the marketing people think that’s a good idea. What a mad world.
Oh my, that is the funniest thing I’ve heard today!! *snort*
you smell lovely.
Cheap and nostalgic Sophia Grojsman– Exclamation. Sweet and powdery and it reminds me of the 90’s!
Wow! I had a bottle of this when I was little. I don’t even remember what it smells like, but I always loved the cute bottle.
I don’t think I liked the scent but loved the bottle. I had a friend in middle-school who wore it and I talked her out of an old bottle when she decided to “upgrade” to Navy. I remember playing with the lid and thinking it was so clever.
I wore Navy too!!!! Revlon, right?
Navy was by Dana.
Thanks, Jenkr!
Ooooh! Navy! I had that one as well. My absolute favorite though was Incognito. I wore that the most until a friend gave me her bottle of Anais Anais.
Oh the original Anais Anais!!!!!! Loved that one! I heard it was brought back but I am sure reformulated 🙁
Oh wow, Incognito! I had a mini of that once…
Oh the memories!
Ah, I’ve seen it around and was wondering if it smelled good. Great bottle!
Both the fragrance and the bottle appealed to me when it first came out.
I wore Exclamation when I was in junior high in the early ’90s. I didn’t even know it was still around until I saw it in a store maybe a year ago or so. I haven’t smelled it in many many years, and I haven’t ventured to try the current version to see if it brings back any memories.
Blast from the past! ???? Sadly, I just realized I can’t really remember what either Exclamation or Navy smells like.
Unbeknownst to me I was apparently a fan of Sophia Grojsman’s work . Looking over the list of her creations I realize that over the past 40 or so years I have drained anywhere from 2-6 FULL bottles of EACH of these perfumes: Coty Exclaimation!, Beautiful, White Linen, Sun Moon Stars, Tresor, Vanderbilt (that one was gorgeous and highly affordable!) and Calyx (the original before reformulation is in my top ten list of all times). However, I have none of these or any other of Ms. Grojsman’s perfumes in my current rotation.
So for today, to combat the 17 degree frigid weather (so much for global warming!!!!!) I am wearing , in layers from bottom to top, Field Notes from Paris, Chinatown and Evening Edged in Gold…..I needed some sweetness, warmth and a touch of leather from EEiG……
Yes, sounds like you are a fan! I’ve only tried White Linen, Calyx (reformulated), and Tresor, and they were all lovely.
Also, global warming is only one aspect of climate change. I know how you feel – we shouldn’t be getting hail in spring! Weird weather, but at least you have enough layers on! 😉 Stay warm, and you smell amazing!
Exactly! Driving home last night with hail and freezing rain hitting my windshield for an hour was NOT fun! And not what I expect of April weather!
Yes, I am wearing my “layers” in my perfumes today!
Tresor was an instant love and my signature scent when it came out, I stopped when it became too popular. So it’s the same for me too, no SG scents in my current “portfolio”, I’ll be giving it a pass on Friday
The original Tresor was gorgeous! I am afraid to try it now as I have heard it is re-formulated……
Your experience with Tresor was similar to mine with Giorgio….a classmate of mine wore it in high school when it first came out and I loved it so much that I rushed out to purchase a full bottle in the only department store that was carrying it exclusively in my city…for a while the two of us were the only ones wearing it in our teenage social circle…..then when it became so ubiquitous and popular (and over sprayed!!!) I ended up gifting my bottle to a friend….when worn gingerly Giorgio was a stunner….however, no one wore it that way in the 80s!!!!!
I usually do well with Grojsman scents, too, though they’re not all wearable for me.
And I think you and I have worn some of the same stuff in the past…Like Revlon’s Xia Xiang…I remember you posted a comment about that one and it was the very first time I had seen it mentioned on a fragrance blog thread!!
Spiriteuse Double Vanille for me today, and thank you so much to my perfume fairy for sending this to me. I need the warmth and comfort on this chilly day which will include a meeting with my estate attorney who has made some very, very costly mistakes which I have just discovered. After yelling at one of my cats (which is obviously insane, I know) for marching around on the paperwork I was desperately assembling (ok, flinging around willy-nilly) I relaxed my shoulders, took a deep breath and decided to let go of the drama and stress and just do the work.
There’s a really wonderful post today over on APJ (Australian Perfume Junkies) regarding matching music and fragrance. I highly recommend reading it, and Luca Turin is featured.
Glad you have things a ” bit” more under control that you can join in at NST. I am so sorry for your burden. It’s hard enough to have family losses- but then when you have the harsh task of what can seem like endless legal work and errors, it is mind boggling. Fragrance pursuits are one way to help alleviate stress 🙂
Thanks for the APJ referral.
Oh, thank you for empathizing, Wendysue! It sounds like you’re very familiar with this experience. You’re right, fragrance pursuits certainly do help with alleviating stress. 🙂
And he has also started a new blog! perfumesilove.wordpress.com
First post went up yesterday about Exsence.
Oh, thanks for that info. I just bookmarked it and look forward to following the blog.
Thanks for the tip!
SOTD: Tresor L’Absolu
I can’t seem to find who the nose is with this flanker.. Does anyone know?
Wearing Zeta today, and hoping that the weather roller coaster ride is finished. It’s chilly, but I can deal with this better than 40 degree temperature changes within two days. That was hell on my sinuses.
SOTD Club de Nuit Intense Woman by Armaf. A nice saffron-y rose that is quite nice for the bargain price. I haven’t worn it in a while, but I’m really enjoying it on this wintry-cold Spring day.
I’m using up the last of a sample of Caron’s Narcisse Noir, that I got several years ago.
Estee Lauder Private Collection is my SOTD. I have been wearing this one off and on for about 25 years. Love, love love!!
Barqs, I recently found Private Collection on a thrift store excursion and totally agree with you: Love, love, love!!
Those chocolates look amazing. What I’d give for some good chocolates and a pizza right now!
I started out with Musc 25 but it wasn’t sitting too well today. Covered it up with L’air du Desert Marocain, which is just perfect.
I’m copying Perfume Sniffer today and wearing Afternoon of a Faun. There’s the most beautiful floral musk dry down clinging to the wrist sleeve of my fleece today – just one sleeve – and I sure wish I knew what it’s from! Could it be What we do in Paris?
A belated thank you to the people I swapped with in this last swap meet. I am really enjoying everything that came my way. What we do in Paris turns out to be a gorgeous sweet blonde pipe tobacco scent on my skin and I’m really loving it in this cold weather. I will need to wait till it warms up somewhat and we are back into a regular Spring – there are several inches of snow on the ground here right now, New England Weather’s way of saying don’t take anything for granted- before wearing En Passant, but then I ‘m going to wear it a lot!
Afternoon of a Faun is great. You smell wonderful!
Missionista reminded me yesterday that I have a tiny neglected decant of the lovely L’Heure Fougueuse so I’m giving it a wearing today. Off to the big city for cat food and pepper plants. Apparently Serrano peppers and heat-tolerant tomatoes are out of style this year so we’re having to travel to find them. Sometimes retail trends are quite baffling.
Happy Tuesday Everyone! My SOTD is from last week’s challenge; Pulp by Byredo. I love, love, love this fragrance! So glad I caved in and got a FB. I guess it mixes well with my chemistry because I have gotten so many compliments on it. Hope everyone has a great day!
you smell great!
I keep wondering if I would like this. Is there a lot of fig scent to this? Sometimes I like that and sometimes not. If it is more of a general fruity smell I think I might like it.
I would say it’s more blackcurrant than anything else, but there’s a noticable amount of fig leaf too.
How does it compare to the original Calyx (not the current skeletal reformulated version of Calyx but the original that came out in the mid 80s from Prescriptives?)
IF it is similar then I am definitely going to have to try it!
Yup agree with this assessment (and I daresay the blackcurrent is why it doesn’t work for me.) (Certainly a sign of weak character on my part.)
Finally got my L’Artisan order last night! 4 bottles, 2 minis, and a sample pack. Ouch. Not looking forward to the damage poll, but as I’m sniffing myself it’s worth it.
SOTD = Mechant Loup
I’ve never smelled anything like it. Leather tinges something that is herbal but sparkling. Read the notes and that is probably the hazelnut and anise. Wouldn’t mind smelling this on a man, but it feels unisex to me. Tried it last night and longevity is not so great – 4 hours. Ah well, I’ll layer Cuir de Russie over it later today.
Portland, OR meet up this Friday @ 6 PM to tour the Imaginary Authors studio of perfumer Josh Meyer!!! Email me at my username to outlook dawwt comm if you want to join!
I wish I lived in Portland- you guys are always doing great activities. I have been curious about ML and happy to know it does skew very masculine. I might have to add it to my “Sniff List”
Oops- that was supposed to be “doesn’t skew”
Ah, grain of salt – I’m not very girly, so my “masculine” tolerance is probably pretty high. It is so light that it is very layerable, though. Definitely sniff before buying if you are cautious about masculine fragrances!
What other L”Artisans did you purchase? They are deeply discounted at fragrancenet and I have been sorely tempted to blind buy (same with Serge Lutens…deeply discounted at fragrancenet and terribly tempting!!!!) but have held off as I am a bit weary about blind buying and, honestly, do I really need ANOTHER bottle of perfume????? …I look forward to reading what you have to say about your other L’Artisan purchases as you wear them….
Oh, no…this news may induce bad behavior on my part ????
yikes! sorry 🙁
But then again…if you have something in mind that you REALLY want it would be worth it to go explore and see if you can get it for literally half price (actually some bottles may be even less than that!!!)
This is the result of a 60% off (or more) sale on Hautelook:
L’Artisan Mechant Loup
L’Artisan Dzing!
L’Artisan Dzonghka
L’Artisan Al Oudh
(2) L’Artisan minis – La Chasse aux Papillons and Mure et Musc
10x2ml L’Artisan Sampler Set
ARGH – their website is still down!!! I wanted to check the price for the sample set for you because I’m pretty sure it is affordable. Sample first, especially if you are wary of blind buying.
I couldn’t help myself and tried all of them last night 😉 Of course probably not long enough to make a detailed analysis of each, but I got impressions:
Mechant Loup – see above
Dzing! – I see where people are coming from with the cardboard accord, however, the incense is strong with this one on me, so it reminds me more of the scented dolls I used to get in Taiwan (their equivalent of potpourri). Unique scent for a personal fragrance, and definitely love!
Dzonghka – Lots of incense (+ woods)! Does my skin amplify incense? I’m sure there is more nuance to this one, especially in winter
Al Oudh – not a skank bomb, easy on the oud as well. Sprayed 10x and it still gave the impression of slightly sweaty skin and hay (in a good way). Again, probably more nuance than I’m detecting.
La Chasse aux Papillons – Very pretty, but has a rich quality to it that prevents dismissal. Like the classic Estee Lauder Beautiful. Getting rose and jasmine, and the sillage is perfect.
Mure et Musc – Also pretty and nice! The musk is not overtly clean, and is well-blended with the berry. Get the feeling the sillage smells better than the straight up sniffs from my skin. Kept wondering “what is that nice berry smell coming from?” and then reminding myself that yes, it is me. 😀
I love Dzing so much 🙂
Love Mechant Loup!
Same!
My SOTD is MFK Aqua Universalis Forte.
SOTD is Ostara. I can officially say that I do quite like it. A successful blind buy!
I also bought a bottle due to the sale (after smelling it only on paper at Scent Bar.) I keep meaning to wear it but every time it seems I’m not in the mood. I have to force myself!
Blind bought this too and love it!
ALMOST blind bought but then stopped myself!
I blind bought Ostara as well and I really like it a lot. It reminds me of the discontinued Amaranthine, which I also really liked.
Oh goodness, deep dish pizza day!! I for sure have to celebrate.????
Whoops, so excited about the pizza I forgot-SOTD Mojave Ghost. ????
Just picked up an eBay purchase from overseas–a full bottle of ELdO’s Putain des Palaces! I spritzed myself and my favorite attorney with two healthy sprays. Since we have a similar naughty sense of humor, we both giggled about the pronounced skanky ending notes and agreed that this fragrance indeed smells like powdery booty. Now I have to find out how to make a decant for her!
Oooh, I’m so tempted to blind buy this one since I can’t seem to find samples anywhere
Luckyscent should have it as that’s whereI got my sample last year. Also, you can get the ELDO sample set from Sephora on-line which has this one and some other nice ones from the line.
I totally overlooked it on Luckyscent. Thanks!
I will check, I might have a sample! Also: do you like True Lust? If I’m not mistaken, it’s 50% PdP, 50% Dangerous Complicity.
Come to think of it, I hadn’t tried True Lust. Reading that it was combination of two other scents made me feel like it made more sense to just check out the originals instead (which, of course, I haven’t done). But looking at the list of notes now, it looks really interesting
Cuir de Lancome – haven’t worn it in a really long time, and it still makes me feel elegant the moment I spray it on.
You smell great! Love that one and so happy I bought a bottle blind. I see it’s getting more and more expensive…
Ditto to that (the successful blind buy and the rising cost)!
Blind buy for me too 😉
You smell fabulous!
SOTD as a remedy of the cold weather and likely the last time until fall: vintage Bal a Versailles edt.
I know Creed is persona non grata here but nonetheless I’m wearing Royal Oud today and quite enjoying it. no oud, all spices.
Are they persona non grata?? (I don’t like them but didn’t think of them as persona non grata around here)
hahaha, well people have very strong feelings about Creed, I think more so than several other lines that might not be favored by the “fragrant community” I feel like many dislike everything Creed does based upon principle. which I understand.
Well, yeah, I guess I’d agree with that. The representatives of the brand I’ve had contact with are also incredibly unpleasant people.
I completely understand. Customer service is probably the most important thing to me, even over the quality of the product itself. I had completely avoided Creed for years based upon everything I had heard–and the bottles…they’re so awful. And then one day my husband and I were out shopping and for the hell of it he wanted to smell one or two. We ended up being greeted by the most helpful and knowledgable sales assistant I’ve ever experienced in fragrance. She introduced us to the entire line and offered samples freely. She hand poured over 10 different generous samples for us to try with no pressure to purchase. And then additionally I’ve had other reps of the brand at different stores be just as helpful and generous with samples.
My person wears Original Vetiver, which is fleeting and too expensive in the US, but still really good. I occasionally pull out Millisme Imperial, which I think is a lovely and distinguished scent. I have to feel formal to wear it, or ready for business, but I really like it. You smell lovely today.
Thank you! I really like how green Original Vetiver is, I think it’s such a great summer scent.
I am wearing a mix of SL Santal blanc and CD J’adore touche de parfum. I love this combo a lot.
SOTD: LUSH 1000 Kisses. I’ve had it for a while but rarely wear it; I’m as ambivalent about it as when I wore it for the very first time. But ambivalence is sometimes a good and necessary challenge.
I never really made up my mind about it either. It’s close to excellent but needs tinkering. I wish they’d revisit it.
Me, too… especially since this afternoon, when the last of my sample leaked all over the bottom of my purse… where it somehow smells better than on my skin. 😛
Oh dear. Sorry!
I imagine it saying “Ambivalent?! I’ll show you…”
I’m in Caligna today, which was a blind buy during the recent HauteLook L’Artisan sale. I’d sworn off blind buys, but it was such a bargain, and *fortunately* I like it. I think it needs hotter weather, something gauzy to wear, and olive tapenada and tomato salad on garlicky toasts, but I see myself getting good use out of it once summer rolls around.
“it needs hotter weather, something gauzy to wear, and olive tapenada and tomato salad on garlicky toasts”
Tooootally. that’s so Caligna!
Cold and grey here, throughout the week/weekend. Went with Eau Sauvage EDP over Eau des Baux. Have a great (warm) day, everyone.
I’m wearing Profumum Meringa today, from the splitmeet. It’s frothy lemon meringue and smells delicious on my shirt.
Yum – I am going to get som Fresh Sugar lemon lotion to amp up the lemon in this. I get mostly meringue.
Do you think it skews more masculine or feminine? It’s a brand I haven’t explored at all.
Meringa is unisex to my nose.
Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia today, which seems to suit the summery weather.
I tested that yesterday. Is it peppery on you?
No, I find it very citrus-y and lightly floral, but I don’t notice pepper.
It feels cold and wintery here, so I put on some Korrigan. I get quite a bit of leather from it and it feels right for our temperatures.
Oh nice. I also love that bottle!
SOTD is La Chasse aux Papillons.
Spring in a bottle 🙂
Inspired by Angela’s review of Prada Candy Kiss, I am testing it again today. I still don’t get much vanilla, mostly musk. Which is fine, because I like musk. I think I might like it more in warmer weather.
Wearing Eau des Sens again…
I seem to smell it better this time…not sure why. The first time I tried this one it seemed rather fleeting and someone suggested maybe I couldn’t detect it/was anosmic to something in it. Today it seems more pungent.
Sometimes I wonder if sense of smell is affected by the monthly hormonal cycle. I assume it is but I haven’t really tracked it.
I daresay most things are probably affected by said hormonal cycle. 😉

I don’t know how scientificky that report is but it’s interesting
It seems that our sense of smell peaks during ovulation and drops down during menstruation.
But I think you can compensate for the decrease in perfume appreciation by eating more chocolate …. Lots more chocolate.
Agreed on the compensatory properties of chocolate. 🙂
Thanks for the links…lots of good stuff to mull over…

This is probably a better article
Interesting… I experience phantosmia predictably at ov & mens, so I suppose the hormonal principle applies to non-smells as well as actual odors.
Amouage Interlude. It took me a while to figure out this scent, which smells like ginger ale and kiwi fruit, but now I love it.
That sounds like an adjustment, but one worth making.
So Pretty by Cartier, really lovely. Those chocolates look very lovely and also very well matched to Sophia Grosjman perfumes somehow
Caramel day! And here I am testing AJ Arabias… Black II is smelling an awful lot like fruity caramel. So I’m appropriately scented… but hating it. This thing is coming off post-haste.
I found three of the samples I tried from that line dreadful and the fourth very uninteresting but wearable. At least they weren’t difficult to scrub. Hope you drowned it in something lovely.
SOTD is Timbuktu. Rose chocolates do sound pretty tempting. Not sure I’d want to spend $32 for them (though I’m not sure what the USD to AUD exchange rate is).
It would be about $24. But then you’d have to ship them 😉
SOTD = Lonesome Rider. The smoky part I don’t like so much is gone, and now I have a nice quiet Iris and leather, which I like very much…
Traces of Isparta from last night, which considering that I was very sick early this morning somewhat miraculously still smell good to me. It must be in the sheets.
I had to look this one up, its description sounds enticing. I will add it to my try list.
It’s a little on the sweet gourmand side, which usually isn’t my thing, but here I love it for some reason.
I’ve worn Red Vetyver by Montale from a sample. Indeed very similar to Terre d’Hermes as many said. Nice, but Terre feels more natural and I prefer it to Montale.
SOTD is a Pacifica cocktail: Malibu Lemon Blossom layered over Nerola Orange Blossom because my MLB bottle ran out. Time to break out the backup rollerball now…
Congrats/condolences on finishing a bottle!
It’s readily available, so I can just restock when necessary. I dread finishing something I can’t replace!
It’s cold again here today, too, but at least the sun is shining. I’m still thinking lavender, only I’ve added some vanilla, sandalwood and a bit of incense to it in the form of LMDLV Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar layered over a lavender/vanilla lotion. Powdery soft and sweet, warm and comforting, yet with a bit of herbal zing to it.
Last night when my WofW Lavender faded, I added Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her to complex it up a bit. Someone here wore this a lot last year and liked it, so when I found a rollerball at TJMaxx awhile ago I picked it up. I think I wore it once but I don’t remember my impression. Last night all I smelled was – neroli! According to fragrantica, neroli is a topnote and the fragrance’s essence is supposed to be lavender, but I never once caught a whiff of any lavender from top to bottom. The neroli note on me was so strong (and, of course, I’m not a big neroli fan) any other notes were pretty much overwhelmed. Anyone else have this experience?
In Bas de Soie to deal with an afternoon meeting, which could veer to either the inconsequential or the contentious.
Another unseasonably Summer-like day in Wrocław, not that anyone here is complaining. Walking through the Old Town and later back along the river promenade, it was amazing to see every outdoor cafe packed and the riverbank buzzing with people enjoying eating, drinking and chatting with friends. Normal weather returns some time tomorrow apparently.
For reasons that make sense to me (and almost certainly to no-one else), when I pick my 5 samples for the working week I use the least promising one on Tuesday. SOTD1 was Olfactive Studio’s “Panorama”, which was enjoyable both in the fresh early stages and a pleasingly harmonious drydown, but (as expected) it didn’t last more than 2 or 3 hours.
SOTD2 which I wore to dinner was Serge Lutens “Mandarine Mandarin”, which also has a fresh feel, this time citrusy. It is a reflection on my tastes rather than on the perfume that I don’t care for it. I don’t understand Fragrantica reviews talking of candied Orange peel; surely they are thinking of Rousse? This one is just generic sharp citrus and no fun at all.
Maybe it’s been reformulated? My old bottle of Mandarine Mandarin does indeed smell of candied orange peel.
It could be reformulation, or the age of the little 2ml decant I got off eBay – I think before Christmas. But I also wonder if it isn’t just me reacting to some of the citrus notes. I expect bergamot, petitgrain or neroli to be shrill and boring on my skin and they rarely fail. Any similar notes in MM might just be annoying me the same way. :^)
Very late to the party today. I wore Bois de Violette today. Now to read the comments.
Late to the party which started this morning when I woke up a lot later than usual – I blame it on the half a rum baba I had last night. Anyway,
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
….and perfect for this super chilly April day AND for its spine strengthening properties. It got me through forgetting my watch, bracelet and earrings, among other things I had to deal with today. Did I say I had half a rum baba?
Today’s SOTD is Farouche by Nina Ricci perfume from the crystal heart-shaped bottle.
