Monday, yet again! (And don't forget, the first quarter damage poll is tomorrow.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Bvlgari Pour Femme, by Sophia Grojsman.
Reminder: On 4/8, wear a perfume by Sophia Grojsman, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are the Bvlgari Hidden Treasures earrings with yellow gold, diamonds and Zambia emeralds, from the Italian Gardens collection. I don't know the price, but I'm guessing they're not a bargain.
Ohh, I have that 1999 shell bottle that Grojsman did except mine is pink! It was gifted to me and I can’t stand the scent, but love the bottle. It must be a flanker of the original.
SOTD is CSP Amour de Cacao. Off to spin class now. Happy Monday to all????
Must be, the original was not pink! Enjoy your spin class.
Looks like it’s the “Eau Florale” version, which explains my reaction to the scent .???? BUT, the bubble glass pink seashell bottle is gorgeous.
Ack, I will have to look that up — don’t even remember it!
I bet your spin class smells waaaaay better than most
Snowing out so I’m wearing DSH Fumee D’Or. Warm and enveloping. Yum.
To my NY crew– I’ll be around on Th 4/14 if anyone wants to get together. My screen name is still my yahoo address
Snow, ugh. Afraid to look at the forecast now.
I agree– once I start seeing daffodils blooming, there shouldn’t be snow
The ones potted by Macys look like they’ve seen better days!
Oud & Bergamot (Jo Malone)
Love that one in the spray oil- went through a bottle in no time! Would consider another bottle but the price is $15 dollars higher than it used to be. I’ll pass.
You smell fantastic!
I wondered about trying the spray oil version, but went with the EDT instead. Every time I look at fragrances the prices have been adjusted, it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous!
Cold again today. This flip-flopping weather is really getting ridiculous now. Although the cold weather means I can wear more wintery scents and I’m testing out Chergui today. I can see why so many love this one.
Had a restful weekend and am ready to knock out the last of my report work. Hope everyone has a good day.
Good luck on the report!
kelly calèche, it would be even better with those fabulous earrings..
Totally agree!
Yes, I think those earrings would make anything smell fab, but you smell great already!
Those earrings are gorgeous! I am lucky enough to own a few nice jewellery pieces but nothing (yet!) from Bulgari…
Oh, they *are* gorgeous. And emeralds aren’t my favorite, but I’d make an exception for those.
Those are seriously beautiful!
SOTD The Different Company Sel de Vetiver. Sparkly grapefruit, cardamom and vetiver. It’s rather cold here still but I have the day off work (it’s still school holidays). And we got married ten years ago today!
Happy anniversary! Congratulations and may you have many more decades of love
Happy anniversary!

Happy anniversaries!
Happy anniversary – and you smell wonderful!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy anniversary to both MrsDalloway and Doc Sinister.
I don’t wear earrings but I might start if I had those waiting around my vanity table for me.
SOTD is Dame’s Lime, Gardenia, and Benzoin, which, I must say, I like a LOT. The lime+gardenia blend is really bright and interesting.
That sounds nice!
Avignon, which is going nicely with the chill morning and chilly office.
Ah, you smell great!
Re your comment above: Happy Anniversary!
SOTD is Dame Perfumery’s Lime, Gardenia, and Benzoin.
Hi, friend!
An easy Monday so far! Spring Break!! No school to get the kids up for, so I got to sleep an hour later, and then sneak out the door while Hubs and the kids were still asleep. (Unfortunately, the dog’s bladder must have an alarm clock, because he was right on time barking! LOL)
SOTD: Daisy Dream.
Have a good week y’all!!
School holiday lazy mornings are good, are’nt they?!
Today’s scent had to be carefully considered, as it’s my birthday, and it’s a big one and the start of a new decade! So I went for pure loveliness and optimism with Neroli Portofino, layered over Ren Moroccan Rose Otto body lotion. My babe did *not* allow me to sleep on my birthday eve, but it *is* sunny this morning after days of fog and months of rain, so it’s looking like a decent, if sleepy, day.
Are you getting yourself a birthday present?
That was my justification for buying a bottle of Lyric a few weeks ago!
Happy birthday! Excellent choice! I tried some a couple months ago and have been aching for it ever since. Maybe I’ll get it to celebrate the start of my own new decade…though I’ll have to wait a bit over a year for that :-/
Great choice, birthday girl. Enjoy!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! You smelly lovely.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday Isabella!
Happy Birthday! And many more decades! And of course your babe would not let you sleep- it’s your special day after all!
Happy Birthday! Lots of great stuff on NST today.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Have a wonderful birthday!
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday.???? Every new decade seemed better to me than the one before until I reached a certain point. Enjoy yourself!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! I think a sunny, sleepy day sounds nice..
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday Isabella! I love the Ren Moroccon Rose products, I had the bath oil a few years back & it was gorgeous. I’m using the foam facial cleanser at the moment, very gentle and subtly scented.
Happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday and best fragrant wishes to you!
Happy Birthday!! Glad you bought a “scent-a-bration” gift for yourself!
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a lovely day.
Happy birthday, and congrats on your bottle of Lyric!
Happy Birthday! And you smell lovely…
Happy Birthday, Isabella.
Happy Birthday!
I’m in Dior Homme today, trying to decide how much I like it. There’s kind of a cardboard-y note at the beginning, but 20 minutes in and it’s mostly gone (the cardboard, not the fragrance).
Well, my husband just walked into the room and told me I smell nice – one vote for! Actually, I’m liking it better and better as the morning wears on.
I bought Homme for my boyfriend and while I do like it, it has a very caramel sweetness. Every so often it makes my teeth ache. Usually only in the top notes.
Interesting! It’s not that sweet on me, thank goodness (in fact, it has just gotten better and better as the day has progressed), and I don’t get sweetness from the top notes at all. I’m endlessly fascinated at how the same perfume can change character entirely on different people.
I tried this over the weekend and had a similar reaction, not thrilled with the top notes. I really liked it, but found it similar to if lighter than Eau Sauvage EDP, which is myrrh heavy and a bit sweet. (And I already own the ES EDP)
My husband got Dior Homme Intense for Christmas, it’s really nice.
I ordered samples of Homme and Homme Intense at the same time – I may be in the Intense version tomorrow!
I just bought a FB at a discounter after having only smelled it on paper and loving it. Maybe it’ll make its debut tomorrow!
Those earrings are gorgeous. So much work to do, so SOTD = No. 5 EDT layered over EDP.
Also, this week’s challenge will be extreme easy – I only have one of her perfumes in the mt collection, and I doubt I’ll be in the mood to try the CK Eternity sample I have.
My SO is on a business trip, and I’m already missing him. Although it is nice to use floral soap. And watch chick flicks. And eat whatever I want.
Happy Monday everyone!
Weird typo – “in my collection”
I like the idea of a mountain collection…
Love No 5 layering combos! You smell fantastic.
Thanks! The different concentrations are quite different, but clearly related, so they do very well when layered.
My sweet hubs gave me a mini of Eternity. It’s… well. Clearly they gave Sophia a skimpy materials budget. Reminds me of Tommy Girl, but not as good. (I mean, I’ve smelled a lot worse, especially at that price point, but I still don’t really like it.)
That’s what I was afraid of. Eventually I’ll give it a sniff, but on Friday I want a great fragrance to usher me into the weekend.
What’s the difference between the scents of the EDT and the EDP? (I’ve only ever tried the EDP.)
The edp is soapier with more of a synth sandalwood (not bad mind you), and has more of a full body and a similar progression to the extrait. The edt is very different with a peach kind of accord at the opening and a hay like chypre-ish base. They merit individual testing. And thankfully are easy to get to. I like all of them for different reasons.
Interesting. To me the EDP feels heavier, warmer (like an oriental), and less aldehydic. The EDT is sparkling with aldehydes and peach. I used to have the vintage EDC, which had the peachy accord of the EDT plus a walloping amount of animalic, so it had the heavy vibe of the EDP.
Still haven’t tried the parfum, but according to Turin it is more like the EDT than the EDP. I highly recommend you read the post at Bois de Jasmin about the development of the formulations. They are all distinctly different (no wonder, since each concentration was developed by a different perfumer), but retain the No. 5 accord, so definitely sniff all of them if you get a chance!
Also, it is very common for different concentrations to smell different. Which means you shouldn’t necessarily form an opinion based on a single concentration! Makes my head spin sometimes, but that’s why it’s a rabbit hole.
Good Morning Everyone. I don’t own any fragrances from Sophia Grojsman. She has created fragrances for many of the brands that I wear. My SOTD is Blackberry and Bay by Jo Malone. Its one of those “pleasurable” fragrances that I should have worn last week. Have a great Monday everyone!
Forgot to mention, emeralds are my birthstone, so I am definitely loving those earrings!
Emeralds are a great stone for your birthstone – so gorgeous!
Green is my favourite colour, so loving them too!
Birthstone twins!
Yay! We rock!
I’m an emerald birthstone girl, too! Those earrings are to die for.
Emeralds are not my birthstone but I love green so have several pieces, some were gifts, others purchased by moi.
L’Artisan Chasse aux Papillon is what I’m wearing, and I’m currently making a cup of black tea for breakfast.
Late reply, so I’m not on my 4th or 5th cup. You smelled great this morning!
I used to have a mini of the Christian LaCroix that I got at a fragrance festival at Nordies in Pioneer Square about the year 99 or 2000. It didn’t really like it, but the bottle was fantastic. I only have EL Beautiful so we’ll see if I’m in the mood. I always wanted a bottle of Jaipur though.
SOTD while we have the very cold weather is Coco edp. Cheers!!!
Hah, I bought Christian LaCroix from a discounter several years ago just for the bottle. I like EL Beautiful, too, and plan to wear it this week. I’m interested to find I have quite a few of her perfumes, probably because Luca Turin or Tania Sanchez liked them.
There are only a few of hers that I really like. YSL Paris for sure, but I actually don’t have any of that.
I don’t have any Sophia Grojsman fragrances either. Although, I would wear Yvresse if I had any.
We’re having another snow day in New England so SOTD is Samsara. Drinking chamomile tea.
SOTD is YSL Paris – I’m starting on Sophia Grojsman fragrances early this week since I seem to have a good number of them in my collection.
I saw a vintage bottle of YSL Paris online yesterday for $299. I think is was parfum though.
I just snagged a vintage mini of Paris parfum on teh ‘bay for about $10. Wow, is it amazing stuff! It’s like rose liqueur.
Wow, that was a great deal. Good for you.
I wish my Paris were vintage parfum! I just have a newish (8 or 10 yrs old? can’t remember) bottle of the EDT, but it still smells pretty great to me. I get it out every spring and then put it away when it gets too hot.
“Pretty great” sounds about right to me for Paris.
Wearing the last of my little 4ml spray of Smell Bent Florist’s Fridge, layered with DSL Rose Vert. Gorgeous combo – and I should get more Florist’s Fridge, as I’ve worn it so frequently!
Hi Mals, I haven’t tried any Smell Bent scents. Do they have decent lasting power? I love that florist fridge smell.
Generally so, yes.
I will warn you now: a fair number of them use a musk that smells pretty stanky to me. It doesn’t to everyone, and not all of them have musk – or maybe just that particular one – anyway. Florist’s Fridge is bright and clean: green notes, hyacinth, and orchid. It’s a faintly chilly, spicy, green, indeterminate floral that to my mind really needed a whiff of rose to be any florist’s fridge that *I* ever stuck my nose into. I want another 4ml spray.
I only have a few Smell Bents – it is great they sell those 4 ml sprayers so they are fun to test and own a bit until you make up your mind. There are always more I want to smell. The ones I have that I really like are St. Tropez Dispenser, Cocoa Rose, One, and Disco Nap. I like Debonair or Dandy but it only lasts for about 60 seconds to my nose, but it’s definitely a classic eau. Actually, Disco Nap has migrated to my very short likely to buy list. It is kind of an Organza Indecence “lite”. Really pretty a tad sexy cuddle scent.
Wearing Cartier’s L’Heure Fougeuse (sp?) and loving it.
Yum! I’ve been eyeing my little decant and wondering why I hoard it (though it doesn’t seem to be evaporating). I really need to buy a lottery ticket so I can indulge in a FB and actually wear the stuff. You may have chosen my scent for tomorrow.
It really is ridiculously expensive. Share and enjoy!
In..love…with Fougueuse. Got a slightly used bottle on eBay. Such a memorable scent. Never thought I could own it but fate intervened.
Nicely done–I hope you revel in it.
Happy Monday!
SOTD: Beginning of the new quarter! It was glorious weather yesterday- sunny and warm, with lush blossoms on the trees and bright bulb flowers showing off. Today SOTD is a melange: rose linen spray that I used to freshen up my suit pants, Florida water I splashed on after working out, and the last of the Iris Infusion by Prada!
Oh, Florida water! That used to be a staple in our house when I was a kid… I should find a bottle for old time’s sake!
Commando so far. It’s cold, wet, rainy and the DSL is down at my house. But I think I might go with either vintage Miss Dior or Shalimar.
It’s supposed to be very warm and muggy here and I am through grubbing out invasive honeysuckle on the riverbank and moving on to attacking the huge patch of vinca.
Since I’m going to be smelling like plants anyway and couldn’t decide what to wear, I’m sporting a big spray of Pan for the warm lavender (I know! I still don’t usually like lavender but Pan doesn’t give me an instant headache), and some Coven on my arms. I probably smell much like I would have at the end of the day without perfume, like a warm green forest creature.
Traveled from home in CA to Detroit for work so only took a few samples,
Very cold today so gave TF Reve Ambre a whirl. Gosh, I small faboulous!
You do smell fab! Wore this yesterday and I love it too.
SOTD is Pink Sugar body products. The kids have the week off for spring break so my younger son and I will be potting seeds today… In our three season room with the space heater going since it’s too cold to do it outside. We had snow on Saturday, and my two year old is so upset it’s too cold to walk down to the playground today. We were going to have a dinner salad but I think instead we’ll be having soup.
Quick question if anyone knows the answer. I’ve been after a bottle of Intense Café for a while and found some for quite a deal on a site called Beauty Spin. However, I’ve never shopped there and have no idea if they sell genuine frags or not. Does anyone have any experiences with them? Very curious since I really love the perfume but the regular price is out of my reach and I think the ones on Evilbay are mostly fakes. Thanks.
I took a chance with my two Amouages and they were the real deal. I took lots of pictures when I opened them because one box was obviously not in original cellophane, but it is certainly the real stuff. I contacted them at the time and they said they would accept a return of I wasn’t happy. I haven’t heard of anybody having trouble and they seem to take their reputation seriously. I will order from them again, but would still be wary of stuff that is often faked as they are just as likely as anybody else to be fooled.
I’ve ordered from Beautyspin and had no problems at all. Their pricing can be really odd, sometimes there are great bargains and other times their fragrances are priced at or very near retail. However, everything I bought was genuine and in good condition.
I’ve bought perfumes there with no problems. As foxbins says, though, you do have to pay attention to the price (they often claim to be highly discounted, but the listed retail price is sometimes significantly higher than reality).
I’ve always (touch wood!) had good luck on eBay UK. Recently I be purchased in packaging/sealed, heavily discounted bottles of Seville a L’Aube and Fleur de Chine, and L’Ombre dans L’eau last year. All definitely genuine.
I probably will buy a bottle of Amouage from eBay or other discounter next year.
Thanks, everyone. I think I’ll pull the trigger since the price does look so good and I need this perfume in my life. Fingers crossed…
Cold and rainy here today. SOTD is PdE Equistrius compliments of the very generous Petunia
Beautiful, soft, creamy iris with a hint of buttery leather. Smells like purple cashmere and is perfect for today’s weather.
You smell good
Enjoy Elisa!
Thanks Petunia
I am enjoying it! Uh oh.
I’m wearing Todd Oldham, a drop in the ocean of nineties Angel-ish food orientals but a very good one. Intensely fruity top with peach and kiwi and citrus wreathed in smoke and spices, then mostly a whole lot of oriental base notes, patchouli and vanilla and amber. It’s really extraordinarily good: I don’t know why it died, although it’s still easily available through all the discounters and eBay, so they must have made a TON of it.
I like this one! I often spray it on my sheets, because it gets a little synthetic/sour on my skin, but it is very good, and my little 20mls was absurdly cheap on one of the sites.
SOTD: Paintbox Soapworks ‘Englishman’ hand lotion, because I forgot to tuck anything else in my purse.
Wearing my self-styled work “uniform” for the first time today, and feeling very confident. Accessorized with a long tasseled prayer scarf that I salt-dyed yesterday (my weekend craft). It used to pale blue, now it’s dusty terra cotta. Magic!
Hmm. Off to look up salt-dyeing.
I dye in less water but with more salt, which drives the pigment into the fibers for a more intense final color. I took the scarf out early because I wanted more of a hazy tint. But at the same time I was dyeing a hand loomed Mexican shawl whose original orange-yellow color I disliked. Orange yellow + maroon + a half hour extra in the dye bath = a fiery scarlet, like sassafras leaves in autumn.
I’m inspired by your craftiness! Sounds pretty cool.
Thanks– it’s fun to do and is a good way to alter older wardrobe items for a fresh “new” look. My dream though, is to learn natural dyeing w/ plants, roots, bark & minerals….
Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours to fight the wintry mix that is coming down on this April day. I may be too embarrassed to do a quarterly acso
Oops. Quarterly account tomorrow!
You never have to be embarrassed in front of Donatella
I went overboard this quarter, after promising (on this blog!) that I would NOT. Gotta add it up tonight; it’s bound to be sobering!
Bless me Donatella!!
Heure Exquise. A homecoming scent for me. Never misbehaves, always right.
Lovely elegant gorgeous! I decanted some last night for a swap and was very happy to get it all over my hands. I rubbed it all over my PJs so I’d smell it when I went to bed.
Wearing Nahema parfum, the scent is pure bliss to me!
Agree! It’s my favorite rose scent by far, and you’re lucky to own the parfum, as their not making it any more.
I don’t wear my Nahema as much as I should. So beautiful!
SOTD is Bottega Veneta Eau Légère for the second day in a row. It was so perfect yesterday that I needed more this morning.
BV Eau Legere is one of my go-to fragrances. I get this lovely creamy accord that is wonderful.
I smell awesome in RL Polo, the first one.
Polo = tried and true classic!
Yep!
Wearing a dab of the beautiful MFK APOM Elixir received in our recent split meet. I only have one fragrance by Sophia – Tresor – and only in lotion form, so I will be wearing that on Friday.
Looking forward to reading the damage poll. i am ready to do a little damage myself this quarter!
Went to Sephora this morning to do some sniffing. I’m testing Atelier Sud Magnolia. I am surprised by how peppery it is on me. I almost bought the travel spray, but I am such a heavy sprayer, it didn’t seem worth it.
I just got a Sephora 15% off coupon good for purchases between April 8 and April 13!
And it starts the 7th if you are VIB Rouge. I am thinking about Blanche Immortelle but I really don’t need 100mls.
I’m wearing De Profundis this morning after a lazy Sunday doing nothing productive, but today I will tot up the quarterly perfume expenses, which I think were more than I anticipated but less than they could have been. For this Friday’s project, I used to have some Jaipur but I traded or sold it, so I will have to figure out something else. It’s supposed to be really hot for April here later this week, so I might break out the Bronze Goddess or Virgin Island Water.
ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette, plus some Molton Brown Coco & Sandalwood lotion (one of the body products at my hotel over the weekend). Jeez, it’s hard to come back to a full workload after being on vacation–even when it’s a short one.
You smell fantastic!
Mmm lovely!, I sampled this one recently.
I’m wearing Misia from a sample today. I didn’t like it the first time I smelled it, but it’s working for me today.
My office is surrounded by therapists’ offices, so I’m hearing a couple fight through my wall right now. Probably hearing things I shouldn’t be. Good times. :-/
Sweetgrass, please let the therapist know that you can hear through the wall. He or she should invest in more soundproofing, a white noise machine, or inform the clients that shouting can be heard. It’s an ethics thing and they could get in trouble for not protecting confidentiality.
Thanks
It doesn’t actually happen all that often. Today was just particularly notable. But thanks for the tip.
Bvlgari Black today. Rainy and chilly. I have quite a few samples of Sophia Grojsman fragrances so I will start wearing them tomorrow!
I love Bvlgari Black, such a great tea scent!
Those earrings! I shudder to think how much they cost. Natural emeralds are very expensive, so of course that’s my birthstone.
SOTD is Chanel Cuir de Russie because it’s Opening Day. Leather for the gloves, and smokiness for the heat I hope Greinke brings for my D-backs all season! Play ball!!!
Any reason to wear CdR is a good one. You smell great!
Thx! I didn’t think it was too much of a stretch today, but as you said, “any reason”! ????
Nice choice for Opening Day, good to see another baseball fan here. Good luck to the D-Backs!
I loooove baseball. Who’s your team?
Chicago White Sox, forever and ever! Going to my first game of the season on Saturday. But I’m a passionate baseball fan in general and watch and follow other teams as well.
(Spanky Eaton!) I hope the weather’s good for your game Saturday! Yep, I’ve got my home team and then several others I like…and then it all boils down to “anybody but the Dodgers”.
It’s a beautiful opening day in Atlanta too….PERFECT temps for playing (and watching) baseball!
GO BRAVES!
Woot, NL! Beat those Nats today! Thanks for Shelby Miller; you’ll love Ender Inciarte (and likely Dansby Swanson, whenever he gets called up)!
This week I am in Wrocław in South-West Poland where the sun is shining and temperatures are in the 20s (centigrade, so proper Summer weather for me). I have brought with me some 2ml decant samples that were getting a bit old so I want to use them before they turn.
SOTD today is Mancera “Sand Aoud”. So, I like the sand note and the oud note and the resiny-flowery thing that is going on. I know experienced perfumistas are bored to tears by rose-oud combinations but I am new to this, and I kind of like it. This one puzzled me though, because after a powerful start where I feared I might have over-applied, it all died away about 2 or 3 hours in. (Or else I continued with my sand-oud-rose equivalent of a dirty bomb but just couldn’t smell it any more). Either way, this is one of my favourite kind of sampling experiences – something new, different, enjoyable and never going to be purchased as a FB so inexpensive as well.
It is cold and dreary here in the US right now where I am, so your story and mini review sounds very exotic and wonderful!
It will be many weeks before we get sustained temperatures in the 20s back in Central England, so I am enjoying it here. And I have some interesting samples lined up for the week, sort of ‘odd bods’ that don’t fit a particular theme. :^)
Commando, as I am transferring items to new space so won’t shower till later. I would say my current scent is dust and cat hair… Maybe I should try to smell sultry and alluring so I can easily win the battles with my husband on painting hanging and furniture placement….
Let us know how that strategy works!
Ugh. I feel you. We’re moving next week. Not looking forward to those disputes, either. We don’t really share taste in decor and he’s not into perfume, so I have no defenses. But it’s a great relationship otherwise
Good luck with the move!
I call that a very sound scheme indeed.
Good luck with the move. Save April 14th for a meetup with thegoddessrena.
I am in Vanille 44 and enjoying it. We had some snowflakes this morning, but now the sun is partially out.
You smell great!
Late start this morning. Musc 25. I was feeling very LA today.
Cold and snowy here, so I’m keeping it cuddly in a cashmere cardigan and Lyric.
Early evening here. I have had the amazing good fortune of sampling Mohur Extrait today. A wonderful antidote to a grey Monday morning, really lifting my spirits. Thank u so much Hamemelis!
Mohur reminds me of three of my favourites, By killans Liasons Dangereuse, OJ’s Taif and FM’s Lipstick Rose. Mohur is more elegant, refined and sophisticated than these three tho , no surprises that I adore it, absolutely wonderful.
Mohur extrait is on the short list for Best Perfume ever. You smell wonderful!
Very happy it lifts your spirits!
Very good morning from DOwnunder, NST. Tuesday starts . Erk. No matter: even if it’s awful, and it shows every promise of being perfectly dreadful, it WILL finish. I’m facing the day in Coromandel, which I find delicious but not in a gentle, easy way. The temperatures seem to be sliding down into the low twenties now: my navy blue shift dress and little jacket and Coromandel seem made for one another and the weather. So. I’ve done as much as I can to be ready: I’m off to do the job now. Be well, everyone.
Yummm, you smell great!
A friend gave me a bottle of Hermes Un Jardin en Méditerranée that she’d received as a gift but found too reminiscent of bug spray on herself. I’m having no such complaints, and I’m really enjoying it (and thankful for her generosity)!
Diptyque Olene today – it’s a fresh breezy spring day here and I spritzed with wild abandon.
Olene is a great choice for a wild-wind kind of day. You smell wonderful!
After this weekend’s yin yang weather – Saturday we had wind chills in the 20’s with gale force winds blowing sideways snow and alternating back and forth all day with blue sky and sunshine; yesterday it was 71! with sunshine; today the high is 34 with snow showers – I wanted a springlike fragrance but one that was brisk and fortifying, nothing delicate or wimpy would do. So I reached for Woods of Windsor Lavender edt for my Keep-It-Simple Monday and it’s working nicely. The rosemary and lavender are bright and crisp and just a touch of amber and vanilla as it mellows adds a small dose of comfort. I’ve had this one for a long time but haven’t worn it in a few years, so it was nice to visit an old friend today.
I am scentless until late tonight because I am going to a class this evening that has a stringent non scent policy. The organizers asked participants not to use any scented products: not only to avoid perfume and after shave lotions, but also scented shampoos, lotions, fabric softeners, detergents, dryer sheets, etc.
As part of course registration, they had asked if anyone needed accommodations for disabilities. Apparently, “more than one” person said they had Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and requested that other participants not use scented products. A cursory Google search suggests that MCS may meet the criteria of the Americans with Disabilities Act under some circumstances.
I am feeling a bit skeptical about this. I mean, I realize it’s possible that some people may be exceptionally sensitive, but if I were so sensitive that the residue of detergent fragrances gave me asthma attacks, I believe I would avail myself of online course options rather than trust other participants to revamp their laundry practices and to know the difference between “unscented” and “fragrance-free” products. The irony is that the course is in an old building with no elevator, hence inherently inaccessible to many disabled people.
I am mostly in compliance with the request, since I generally look for fragrance-free options for my own reasons and avoid (to me) unnecessary products, such as dryer sheets. No coughing or pained looks in my direction so far. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
It pleases me to imagine such fine, principled people refusing to be carried from a burning building because the fireman wore aftershave.
I tend to think some of them have emotional problems or are ADA scammers, but who knows. Rates of asthma are increasing, although some researchers think, paradoxically, that some of increase is due to children growing up in environments that are too clean. Apparently, our immune systems need to be challenged when we are young in order to find the right balance. That’s the hypothesis, anyway.
Happily, my own standards of housekeeping might have been designed to develop a child’s immune reflexes to superhuman levels. :^)
Hahaha. I’m with you on my that????
I have heard that, and also similar theories regarding food allergies. Apparently, the body needs to be exposed to potential allergens early on in order to learn that they are harmless.
I certainly understand being respectful and not wearing perfume, but it seems like an enormous burden to ask people to change all of the products they use on a daily basis in order to attend a class in the first place. Whether or not someone has good intentions doesn’t mean they’re immediately capable of replacing all the products they currently own and use.
Not being negatively affected by [most] scents, myself, I’ve encountered some really noxious cleaning products used in my office building. I can’t imagine successfully achieving a scent-free environment no matter what.
Ugh, and those “air freshener” dispensers in some public restrooms are asphyxiating! Yes, it would be very difficult. Anyone who really has MCS is in trouble.
One of my coworkers saturated his work area, which was right next to mine, with a truly noxious bug spray because he had seen one mosquito (this is the Gulf Coast, and we get hordes of mosquitoes in the summer). It was so bad, I had to leave the area for a couple of hours and couldn’t do my work because the stench was nauseating. Really, no perfume could be as offensive as that bug spray!
Even if you complied out of respect, it is inherently impossible to have a space in our modern world that is not compromised by any chemical aroma at all. Even if a product is “scent free” it is not likely inert. Many unscented products have chemicals in them that are blocking other scents.
Yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking. You have to be aware of that and look very closely at the labels to distinguish between “unscented” and “fragrance free,” and even then, who knows.
Are you allowed an Emotional Support Perfume?
Spray ’em with mace and be done with it. >:^)
Our environments can’t be entirely fragrance-free, buildings are constantly off-gassing.
Asking someone to change all of their cleaning, laundry and personal care products seems an unreasonable burden.
Sounds like you’ve set your sights on running for president one day!
You are wicked, Koenigsberg – come sit by me!
bwa ha! Noz needs one of those perfume vinaigrette things that Victorian ladies used to carry.
I think she’ll need a string of garlic!
Dying to know what the class/ lecture is. Embalming for Beginners is my guess.
Oh, that would be funny – no perfume but reeking of raw garlic!
I know this is the wrong day, and this boat has sailed, but I’m enjoying this thread hugely!
It’s ridiculous to have such an extreme policy tho, I really sympathise knoz knoz.
No one seems to mind my perfume at evening class luckily!
ROTFL. Touché Kanuka!
That seems a bit much to ask. My allergist says the predominant theory in his field is that most “attacks” blamed on scents are either a reaction to a cleaning product or something else in the air or are asthma attacks induced by unrecognized anxiety or panic attacks. He acknowledges that a few people could be allergic to somebody else’s perfume but he hasn’t found any solid evidence to support the claims. It certainly seems reasonable to me. My MIL has severe asthma and I’ve noticed that talking about her triggers, for example, asking if she smells cigarette smoke, causes her to unconsciously breathe faster and reach for her inhaler.
I have suffered most of my life from panic attacks and know how surprisingly physical and unrelated to anxiety the symptoms can be. I have also had severe two severe allergic reactions in my life that had no obvious origin so I can imagine that if I smelled something at either instance I would associate the reaction.
MikasMinion, that seems like very reasonable.
Autumn has arrived here very suddenly, after wonderful weather through February and March. It’s a lot cooler but still sunny, and I’m planning to wear my newly purchased Mandragore.
That sounds perfect.
Very busy at work this week. SOTD = the lovely Boucheron. At various points in my life, perfumes by Sophia Grojsman have been mainstays of my collections ( YSL Paris, Bulgari pour Femme, Vanderbilt!) but right now, apparently, I own nothing by her. I had a friend who was apparently anosmic to something in Paris. I visited her for several days at her house, had a bottle Paris with me, and left it in her bathroom. When I left I realized that my bottle was reduced by 2/3s. I never asked her if it was her, or her 4 year old that sprayed so much of my perfume around, but her house smelled great the entire time I was there…
Good story! And Boucheron is fantastic. I remember when I discovered it in the 90s and I was just so impressed by how different it was than anything else I’d ever smelled. I still have a small bottle of it.
When I first smelled it I thought it was sort of wimpy, but it has grown on me. Now I appreciate its gentle subtle changes over time.
By two-thirds! That’s gotta be the work of a four-year-old, in my estimation
Or an unauthorized decant!
Wearing DSH Scent of Hope, the perfect statement for this gorgeous spring day.
OH, I love Scent of Hope. I should get my bottle back into rotation…
Wore that last week – it’s great for spring!
Gorgeous, I was just thinking I need to wear mine, too!
I love Pour Femme, one of my favorite violet/rose combo scents and good for the office.
Today’s scent of the day is vintage Courreges in Blue by Courreges, one of my favorite spicy/floral/chypres. I love this and also Estee in the spring time as it’s perfect for cool mornings and as the weather warms in the afternoon.
I don’t have any Sophia Grojsman perfume the mast time I looked at the list. It was two weeks ago and while I don’t believe she launched any new perfumes in the past two weeks, I may have overlooked something.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
I think I will wear this all week. I have a lot of work things that need to get done and I can only do so much. I am tired of incompetent internal service providers (“please confirm x” with x being the answer from simple division) and email trails that are a mile long with 10 emails generated in a span of 5 minutes over the weekend — I REFUSE to get involved in obviously non-emergency weekend exchanges.
And the cr-ppy weather. Whoever thought we were getting away with a mild winter is sadly mistaken. Had I not looked at the calendar, it certainly feels like we’re back in winter. Don’t get me wrong — I would much rather brave the cold than suffer the heat, but still — dressing in the morning and choosing a coat are games of chance.
Me, too! I mean I don’t think I have anything by Sophia either.
I remember giving away Tresor, White Linen, and Calyx that had been gifted to me years ago. I loved sniffing them in the bottle but knew I would not wear them often, and I was not in a fragrance-acquisitive point in my life at that time.
I gave away White Linen fresh or something like that to an event that Ari hosted back in January.
Forgot to share this comment that passed through my twitter feed today:
“In Chicago, your spring wardrobe is just your winter wardrobe smartly accessorized with bitter tears.”
Winter’s Bitter Tears would be an excellent name for a scent from CB I Hate Perfume.
p.s. I love Chicago. And New York.
You may be on to a great perfume name!
Darn! Monday again. Yay! Grosjman week on NST!
The world is richer for having Paris, Yvresse, and Tresor. I can not wear any of them with loyalty, but they smell wonderful in the bottle and on other’s skin.
I am scent-less today. I don’t want to compete with the vase full of withering pink jasmine and nasturiums on my desk. The flowers’ sweetness is intensified by the underlying smell of decay. The combination is intoxicating. It is as if the flowers are gasping out their last exhalations, hoping to attract the attention of a lazy pollinator.
Music of the moment, oddly appropriate for fading flowers: Carl Stamitz, Symphony in C Major, Op. 13/16, No. 5: II. Andante grazioso, with thanks to KUSC.
Wearing 1932 on one arm and Misia on the other. I found minis of these two on ebay, and sprang for them. I am finding that I almost never have luck deciding about a perfume from testing it in the store. I need to be able to try it at home, away from the sales pressure, and over several days.
In the store, I though 1932 smelled like a Chanel and Misia did not; I could not detect that Chanel signature in it. I also thought Misia was the one I would be more likely to wear. Trying them at home, I can get the iris note under the rose/violet powder in Misia. I also find that the two things don’t seem to go together very well IMO. It is rather like a tossed salad with sweetened whipped cream on top. 1932, OTOH, seems more coherent. It smells as if it is related to no. 18, 31 RC, and 28 LP, but I think I like it better. The others are in the category of perfumes I admire, but don’t love.
Fortunately, I have plenty of both to test them out fully, so I may change my opinion of either or both–possibly several times.
Aha! I do have a Sophia Grojsman perfume–I have a bottle of Bat-Sheba. I picked it up on ebay for a reasonable price. I don’t know how well preserved it is, but it smells good and the bottle is beautiful.
