It's Tuesday, and it's Astrud Gilberto's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I went with L'Artisan Ananas Fizz.
Reminder: 4/1 is April Fools Day! We're going for pure fun: wear your most-fun-ever perfume. (suggested by thegoddessrena)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Another year older today..but feel good. I wanted to have 2 kids before I got to this age, so that happened one right after the other…
For my special day I am in Alahine. My most special fragrance.
Tea is Marco Polo by MF, my hubby made me a wonderful breakfast of eggs, toast with tea rose petal preserves. We will celebrate my birthday more next month when we return to his motherland, and visit Montreal, both our first time visiting this city. Can’t wait.
Happy birthday! You smell great.
Happy Birthday! Many more!
I’ve not yet tried Alahine, but have ordered a sample, I’m sure you smell great. I wish you a great birthday!
It was a toss up between Alahine and Divine. Alahine took me a few samplings before I got hooked.
Hope it is a lovely birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Have a happy birthday!
Happy birthday, what a lovely start to the day.
U and others here have made me long to smell Alahine, top of my to sniff list now, I’m sure u smell heavenly!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! I chose Alahine today too – we smell wonderful!
Happy Birthday! Here’s to another wonderful year!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day and you’re smelling great!
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday!
How lovely! Happy birthday, best wishes.
Happy Birthday!! Enjoy your day……hope it’s epicly AWESOME!! 🙂
Happy Birthday and congratulations!
Happy birthday ! Have a marvelous day !
Happy Birthday!
You smell fabulous!
Yeah! Happy Birthday to you! Lovely day you have.. 😉
Happy Birthday! That sounds like a joyous start to the day. Hope it is wonderful all day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Those preserves sound delicious…
I need to figure out how to make my own preserves
Finally got a sample of Alahine and it is amazing. Also Lace Gardens! Happy birthday and thanks for helping to introduce me to these beauties.
Lovely! Some NST’ers are enablers-you know who you are! Glad you are enjoying Lace Garden-sitting on my hands not to splurge on a bottle. Such a great spring scent.
Happy Birthday!
Also, I had never even heard of Alahine. There is always more to learn and discover! I will have to check it out next time I’m in scent bar.
let me know what you think. Oha is also nice
Happy birthday! I live in Montreal half the year, you will have a great time. So much to see, do and eat! Great food city.
Great-I am still wearing my maternity leggings so I should have no problem stuffing my face while I am there 😀
Happy birthday, you wonderful-smelling human!
Have a wonderful birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! I haven’t been to Montreal in a long time but it’s a wonderful city to visit especially in the spring. If you any time apart from seeing the city and eating well, there is perfume.
You might want to check out the boutique Etiket, Ogilvy, and Holt Renfrew.
Have fun.
Great! Thanks for the suggestions
¡Feliz Cumpleaños! Have a great day!
Happy Birthday and wishing you a wonderful year ahead. How nice to have Montreal to look forward to. You will love it, I know I did.
Happy birthday! Enjoy being a young and fragrant mommy of two!
Happy birthday! It all sounds lovely!
Happy birthday, Lovestosmellgood. Montreal sounds wonderful.
Happy birthday! My parents were in Montreal a few months ago and said it was beautiful. I’d love to visit.
Also, I haven’t tried Alahine but I’ve been seeing it mentioned so much I think I need to correct that soon.
Ooh, happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
I hope you have a fantastic birthday today. Enjoy it! 🙂
Violet Blonde Tom Ford, iris violet suede benzoin and cedarwood (punctuation be d$mned !).
And now I have the INXS Suicide Blonde repeating in my head.
Happy Sunny Day Everyone! 🙂
We don’t need no stinking punctuation.
True dat! !!
And thanks for the campy time capsule clip. Reminds me of my childhood. 😉
Love the girls in shorts while it’s snowing outside, and the hat that looks like a bathing cap!
I was thinking the same thing when the snow started ????.
Music video reminded me of Mad Men.
Great song !
Ahhhh, Violet Blonde … one of my favorites. You smell great!
Vetiver pour elle, and drinking milky oolong.
Also drinking milky oolong!
Gosh guys, pass me a cup.
Got some left in my thermos! I drank it during work today.
Pass me a cup as well..
I so would if I could!
I’ll bring the whole wheat date scones I made yesterday 😉
Mmmm. I can’t be that far from where you are 😉
So let’s enjoy a virtual collective tea time – could I have one of your scones please?
But of course!
…AND you smell terrific!
I did not know Vetiver pour Elle existed! I’m usually quite fond of Vetiver (…pour Lui implied?), but often it’s just a bit too harshly masculine in the opening. I have never even seen VpE, but now I shall have to try to seek it out. I bet it’s wonderful!
Wearing the original Divine, which is supposed to make me feel elegant and composed. Counting down till my holiday next week. It’s been a long time.
Ah you smell great ..the Divine enabler! <3 😀
Where are you going?
Poland!
I sniffed l’Homme Sage and l’Etre Aimé Homme for the first time yesterday and thought of you 🙂
I am wearing Phaedon Rue Des Lilas, woody almond, lilac/lily of the valley which while very pretty smells too close to a functional product, albeit a pricey one, for me to love wearing.
I am drinking some White Pearls from Adagio which tastes like a cross between a Shou Mei and a Dongfang Meiren: woodsy and slightly sweet. The pearls are giant–four grams each.
Your tea sounds lovely!
I love Rue de Lilas, but it’s discontinued and impossible to find.
SOTD = Badgley Mischka. Which is fairly fun.
I’ve been wanting to try that one. Would you know if the modern formulation is worthwhile?
I’m pretty sure it is discontinued so there is no modern formulation! You can still find it on eBay and stuff but it might be risky as a blind buy.
There is a vendor selling minis which is all I’d want anyway.
Worth trying then!
There’s something fun about just saying that name. 🙂
I always think that, too!
SOTD is Rose de Siwa. I love this scent in the spring. Much thanks to hajusuuri for hosting the MDCI split!
You smell extremely pretty and very spring like!
Thanks Sophie! It really is one of those scents that I would describe as extremely pretty.
I love Rose de Siwa! So pretty, and so pink without being in the least Barbie, plastic, or airheaded.
Thanks Mals! Love your description!
You smell beautiful, and I agree with mals; this one is pretty and pink and smart!
I always find it rather wistful somehow, as if it’s there to remind us of beauty in a way that we seldom see, or find.
It is the most elegant pink perfume that I know of. ????
I’m planning on getting Rose de Siwa as one of the freebies with my next MDCI split.
1872 for Men (Clive Christian)
Reports week here so I’m in busy mode. Trying OJ Osmanthus today. Getting more orange than osmanthus. I don’t mind it, but it’s not what I thought it would be.
SOTD is Gucci Guilty Black. It’s very assertive, and I needed to be assertive this morning. . .
My nose isn’t totally back to normal, so I’ll reserve full judgement, but I’m wearing Fruitchouli Flash today. Fun, indeed.
So, in other news, I’ll be in New York this weekend looking at wedding venues. I’ll be pretty busy, but I’m committed to setting aside at least an hour or two for exploring the wonders of shopping in New York. Here’s the question: If I only have time for one perfume destination, where should I go? (As if I’m not spending enough money venue shopping :D)
Osswald is pretty great, and such lovely, helpful staff!
Osswald or Twisted Lily if you’re willing to venture to Brooklyn. Is there a specific line you want to try?
No lines in particular I had in mind, but I should probably look at what they all carry, shouldn’t I? Duh 🙂
JAR in Bergdorf Goodman.
I agree with missionista about Osswald. Nice selection and great staff. Aedes de Venustas has great stuff as well. Have fun!!
You can go to Twisted Lily in Brooklyn and if you have time it’s a straight shot on the subway to stop at Osswald on the way back up into Manhattan. Since you can eat a snack on the subway in NY, you can use lunch time for extra perfume shopping.
Being in DC, I totally forgot about eating on the subway! Logistically, this sounds totally feasible!
I would stop at either Aedes or BG’s.
But like Wendysue mentioned I would save $$ for food.
I got married in NYC-at Jefferson Market Garden in the village. Just a suggestion if you are looking for a small place to tie the knot.
Jefferson Market Garden looks beautiful–I bet your wedding was fabulous! We’re actually getting married in Central Park but have yet to find a destination for the reception. (I didn’t really plan on having a reception at first, or else I would have picked a destination closer to home.)
Aedes gets my vote!
Uh-oh, that’s less than a mile from one of the places we’re visiting. I could probably turn fiance loose for a little while and add an extra hour to my shopping trip
Osswald or Twisted Lily.
Sampling the Biography Scents of Self collection, though I’m unlikely to ever layer them as suggested.
SOTD is Vetyverio. Turns out to be very good on a windy spring day. There’s enough floral to herald spring, but enough woodsy vetiver to stand up to some wind and chill.
I really like Vetyverio. I have a small sample, and contemplating a full bottle.
Barqs, are you in CONUS? I can totally send you some! I got the 100 mL bottle (could not find smaller) at the sample sale last year. It will take me forever to use this. I’d be happy to pass some on. E-mail me at user name at Yahooooooooo dot calm.
Yes, I am. Thank you very much!!
I really like it too! Had such a nice convo with a Diptyque SA last week. She suggested some fantastic layering combinations. One of my favs was Vetyverio and their rose. Also great with their fig.
Laura, see my reply above to Barqs. Can send you some as well.
Mitsouko! 🙂
Yes!
????, indeed!
I blind bought Carven Le Vetiver, the one before the current one, and it is a hairy chested beast. I love masculines and do not usually find anything too much. I even blended real vetiver essential oil with my lotion to enhance the vetiver but this may be my scent Waterloo….
LOVE Astrud Gilberto! I have a Stan Getz album that features her vocals against his saxophone, a very … calming combination.
SOTD is Alahiiiiine! Lovely, wafty clouds of it. I may have gone a little overboard with the spray nozzle, but I don’t care. Come and get me, perfume police!
You smell great.
Back to work after the long weekend and wearing Putain des Palaces, which I increasingly like, there seems to be something slightly unusual about it.
Also fortifying myself with Godiva truffles (which go with tea of the day which is, predictably, coffee).
Hey, twin!
Hey there and agree it is more cozy thank skanky which seems to make it pretty versatile. We both smell super!
My recollection was it had a bit more funk than I’m getting, but it is more wearable and versatile this way. We do smell super!
Somehow I don’t see the PdP girl drinking tea…
That made me giggle and yes fair point…
Fortified tea, perhaps?
A gorgeous Spring day is in the works, methinks! The sun is shining thru the 4100 pollen count haze in Atlanta…… 🙂
SOTD: Marc Jacobs Dot. Light and easy…my 11 yr old LOVES it. As for me, MEH. I really don’t get much out of it. But I suppose it’s perfect for a Springy day like today!
I will be wearing Dot this Friday in honor of my sweet puppy girl’s birthday, whose name is Dot. 🙂
Perfect for the Fun Friday project!! I am still thinking about my pick!
I’m scent twins with my 11 yr old today! Gotta love that! 🙂
SOTD Putain de Palaces from a lovely swapper. More cozy than skanky but I’m still loving it.
I bought a new bottle of L’Occitane Arlesienne shower cream which I dropped in the shower and didn’t realize the bottle had cracked and came back into the bathroom later to a pool of it in the tub 🙁 I was able to rescue what was left into an other empty rubbing alcohol bottle. My bathroom smells really nice, though!
Oh no!
Oh that’s too bad. Arlesienne is so pretty. I friend of mine gave me a tiny bar of the soap last spring. It was really nice and very scented.
How do you find that shower cream? Is it strongly scented?
I swapped for that and when I have a free moment I think its waiting at the mailroom in my building.
I really like it but it’s pretty well scented, so better for night showers. It mixed well with what I was wearing today. It’s a very femme scent. I hope you’ll like it!
I really hope you’ll like it, too 🙂
I kept the Arlésienne hand lotion and it is so luxuriously feminine on my hands that I can never stop sniffing myself afterwards. Hopefully the shower gel will do the same for you!
Calvin Klein Euphoria is my SOTD.
I haven’t had any tea or breakfast yet. I am having some blood work done this morning and I’m fasting. I’m going to put a breakfast nutrition bar in my purse and eat it immediately after.
Good luck with your blood work. How is your doggie?
He is acting fine. We have a consultation with the veterinarian on Thursday afternoon to discuss our option.
You’d never know he was sick. He jumps up and down when I get his food dish out. And, he runs around outside with our other dog.
Thank you for asking 🙂
I’m glad that he isn’t in pain or feeling sick. Poor baby.
It’s sunny but windy again, in the mid-60s. Very nice spring weather – I hate when it gets too warm too soon! SOTD is the lovely DSH Giverny in Bloom, from a sample.
I’m off to get sponsor patches embroidered on the newly-formed high school rowing team’s jackets. #boosterparentlife
You smell great!
good luck with the jackets! At least you will smell lovely while you are are doing errands
Giverny in Bloom is reminding me a bit of vintage Jolie Madame. This is a Very Good Thing.
Ah! I have put this on my list of samples to request the next time I get something from her.
Wow, now I’ll have to try that next.
Seville a L’Aube for me today, with a spray of osmanthe yunnun on my scarf- thanks Mrsdalloway! This is really nice but I can’t smell it after a couple of hours. I’m really thrilled that I’ve been able to sample 3 wonderful classic perfumes over the last week or so; ISM, Après L’ondee & Cuir de Russie. Après L’ondee is going on to my Buy List for next year.
Thanks again to Haemelais, I really enjoyed wearing Ubar on Sunday at an Easter egg Hunt party, & received 2 compliments on it, which rarely happens, however it doesn’t tug at my heart the way Journey does,
I’m feeling very appreciative of this kind and generous community, and the satisfaction to be found in swapping perfume!
Tomorrow I’m trying Mohur Extrait, at her nervous that I may fall head over heels with that one tho..
Love Seville a L’Aube, and really interesting about Ubar – I have never actually sniffed it and must remedy that soon. Also I am feeling very behind as I haven’t tried Mohur either…
So glad you got to try the three and loved one of them! All are rgeat scents and worth sniffing, even if only to know them.
SOTD for me is Atelier’s Sous le toit de Paris.. just lovely on a cool spring day.
Such a great song The Girl from Ipanema is and of course it will be in my head alllll dayyyy.
That is such a lovely one, and as you say perfect for early spring.
You smell good
You do smell good! Violets!
The perfumista version:
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes
Each one she passes goes “You smell DIVINE darling, what is it? Tell me where you bought it, I simply MUST have it, is it new or vintage? EdP, EdC, or EdT? I’ll swap you 5ml. of mine for yours, what’s your snail mail?…”
Kinda lost the scansion and rhythm there toward the end, but as spoke word poetry, it rings totally true!
TOTALLY lost it… but then, perfume is exactly what makes us all lose it 😀
hahaha! like this version!
Hee! 😀
You smell nice!
The second of 6 perfumes in my aphrodisiac pack and my Tuesday SOTD is “Tom of Finland” from Etat Libre d’Orange. This doesn’t project much and is quite work safe. I get the lemony opening and the latex smell, but really only because I was watching out for them. It’s not an ‘in your face’ perfume, if you’ll pardon the expression. Fun factor 3/5 (mostly for the juvenile fun of wearing a condom-scented perfume to work); aphrodisiac factor 0/5.
I’m really enjoying reading your summary of the sample pack, I was looking at the set on the Bloom website and wondering how much they could live up to the pack description. It does sound fun though!
It is fun, not least because sometimes I am bewildered why the notes could possible be interpreted as frisky or mood enhancing. The only thing I have every worn that got interest from a complete stranger was Hermès “Cuir d’Ange”. I am looking forward to some of the scents scheduled for later in the week. ;^)
I’m also enjoying your series. I’m trying to think of something I’ve smelled that I would actually consider an aphrodisiac. I think most that try are just hopeful, at best. Maybe Miller Harris L’Air de Rien might come close. Might be a good Friday project 😉
Wear your skankiest scent… 🙂
Only my cats seem to get turned on by my skankiest scents . . .
Yes, Rose Musc makes my cat drool all over himself and me.
Adorable hubbie finds Iris Poudre to be a “Hubbah, hubbah” scent. I am such a fortunate woman! 🙂
That Friday project would be a big fail for this skank chicken.
I’ve only had the aphrodisiac experience once, and it was trying a perfume I didn’t really like. But then I thought about it on a man, and there was something about the idea that made me think, “hmmmm, I would nuzzle this. . .”
What was it?
Hah! I totally forgot to ACTUALLY answer the question, didn’t I? Shay & Blue Framboise Noire.
SOTD is Eau de Rhubarbe Escarlate. I needed that tangy juicy rhubarb opening earlier. It’s a musky skin scent now, with a little tang. I will respray occasionally to see if it will boost the rhubarb, which is crisp- I don’t feel like a pie! But, I love rhubarb pie and sauce, and Eau makes me want to cook them again this year. Not sure that’s what Hermes had in mind.
The top notes are so fun!
Yes, I agree! I love the top notes on this, tangy & juicy are good descriptives.
Still recovering, but at least my nose has regained nominal smelling functionality. Feeling infinitely the better for it.
SOTD = Kenzo Flower
Because it’s spring, I’m in a pretty (and comfy) purple dress, and I actually find powder comforting. Might have over applied so I could smell it, but hopefully my coworkers can deal.
Glad that your on the mend. I read your post yesterday. Your symptoms sounded pretty awful.
Ugh… you are on the mend…
your outfit and perfume combination sound lovely
I love Flower, u smell lovely!
I hope you feel better soon! And apologies, didn’t manage to reply to you yesterday. I had planned to possibly take only one frargance, but as my last days in Brussels were not great for fragrance shopping, I had to change my strategy. So I took a small pouch with travel sprays, decants and samples, all together about 15 scents. And as J took his FB of Pulp, there’s that too 🙂
SOTD is L’AP Mimosa Pour Moi – I needed something comfy and chilled out today.
So beautiful, I wore that solidly for many years.
Getting a lot of wear around here too!
I’ve been wearing Tropic of Capricorn for several days and I’m enjoying it again today. The weather is beautiful, cool and foggy, and I can enjoy ToC and still smell the outside scents of blooming things. The little native persimmons are blooming and smell amazing. Of course, the Mountain Laurel is fragrant too and there is a bit of Whitebrush hiding in the fence line too.
I managed to wrench my back a bit yesterday so I’m putting off moving much this morning until I have to. I was picking up my foot to take a step when an excited ginger furball landed squarely on top of my boot and caused me to shift my weight oddly. Now my upper back and left hip are stiff. Doolittle was completely unaffected, by the way, and is wondering why we haven’t gone on our morning hike so that she can zoom around trying to trip me.
Oh I’m sorry and hope the rest solves everything.
Well wishes!
Cats and kids ????
Been working waaaaay too much lately. But at least I’m mostly working from home. So sampling Zoologist perfumes today, because what’s not fun about those names and drawings? Currently got Hummingbird on my right hand and Bat on my left.
Oh tell us what you think. I love the idea of these but a couple turned me off pretty quickly and I haven’t returned to the one I liked . . . and can’t remember which ones they were.
Hummingbird includes several florals that I don’t like (mimosa, peony) so that one’s not for me.
Bat is really interesting. Tropical forest complete with slightly overripe fruits (fig, banana). Interesting, and I like it, but I’m not sure I’d wear it in public 😉
On to testing Panda and Rhinoceros…
Panda is green, plastic, lily, and vase water. Bleargs
Rhinoceros has a fantastic rum open, and so many of my favorite notes, but I’m getting spiced cardboard???? What the….?!
Hmmmm. I’ve been wanting to try this line, but now I’m not rushing. I do love the artwork, however. I’d be happy with a poster-sized print of Bat.
The drawings are great, aren’t they?
I saw a youtube review of this line that wasn’t favorable. Sounds like you agree.
YMMV of course. I like Bat though it may be too strange for the general public. And surprisingly, I like Beaver best of all, though I’m definitely giving it a new not-so-embarrassing name. I think I’ll go with Marmot.
Beaver is the only one I loved and bought. They are odd and interesting for sure!
The Beaver is the mascot of my alma mater. I wore “Love Your Beaver” t-shirts out in public until I found out how else that could be interpreted. I still have a beaver on my right ring finger at almost all times.
Last up: Beaver. Surprise! I like this one best of all. Bit o’ citrus, bit o’ floral, musk, wood. Considering I’m not fond of skank you’d think from the notes (castoreum, musk, animal musks) that I’d hate this, but no skank here. Nice.
These all sound and look just FASCINATING. Even your descriptions, which largely sound negative, sound interesting enough that I want to see how I interpret them. I will have to put these on my to-try list (which is already dazzlingly long).
Rest up 🙂
I’m wearing the last of The Yard Next Door from Smell Bent.
Great name!
Mohur today. I am having a busy and not so fun week so am wearing things that are grown up and that I love. Mohur is fun to me too, though, as there is something lighthearted about it that I can’t quite put my finger on.
you smell great.
I also find Mohur rather lighthearted! Maybe it’s the almond milk.
Wearing Lyric today.
Nice!
a beauty
Lovely!
You smell wonderful!
Those pineapples are beautiful! I rarely see a ripe pineapple in Wegmans–green, green, green. SOTD is leftover Coco on my shirt. On Easter Sunday, it was actually warm and sunny here, and I couldn’t resist Bronze Goddess perfume and body cream/creme/lotion. It was great for a country club brunch because it is so pleasant but not at all overwhelming. Everyone was perfectly whelmed.
I wish we had Wegmans. I was only in one once and was like a kid in a candy store.
My SIL has a Wegmans – my reaction to it was the same LOOK AT ALL THE COOL FOODSTUFFS!!! (My hometown is getting one in a few months, but I doubt I’ll drive 100 miles roundtrip to go to it.)
Not even for fancy-schmancy cheeses? 😛 That’s my usual M.O.
Probably not, no. The budget doesn’t run to fancy cheeses (there are two teenage boys in the house).
I got just as excited when we got a Trader Joe’s. They’re very different but both necessities as far as I’m concerned.
I would be excited about a Trader Joe’s too.
Sampling Ôponé today…
Nice, spicy rose with a fair amount of cumin and some wood. A bit sweet too.
I’ve never noticed this one before, but it sounds great.
Pawed through some samples and decided on Tauer Noontide Petals. We will see. I struggle with Tauer. I theory I want to love his scents, but I had to give away the Rose Chypre sample. The only one I’ve found so far that I like on me is Reverie au Jardin.
I find some are more challenging, but if I work with them for a while, I appreciate them more. I thought Lonesome Rider was all smoke at first, but then another try or two later, there was warm leather with a hint of floral. Fruitcholi Flash was all sweet fruit at first and I dismissed it, but then I wondered later what was the great scent I smelled on my sleeve!
It’s my first day wearing Fruitchouli Flash, but I keep getting surprised by it, too. Fun and nice enough at first, but I’ve had a few moments today where I couldn’t figure out what that lovely scent was…only to realize it was my own arm.
You are right. It has been a while now, and I wish I’d spritzed both arms. I think it is the top notes that killed me. It is much softer and nicer now.
I love Maroc pour Elle, Noontide Petal, LADDM and Lonesome Rider. And Rose Chypre, actually. Some of the others I had to give away immediately. They had the dreaded tobacco note that is anathema to me. Haven’t tried Reverie – will look for it…
It’s a quite lovely lavender… I wish the Rose had worked on me, but it found a better home. I will wear Noontide again…I just need to be patient with it. Maybe it will be like Narciso for me. I was disappointed to not like it when it came out. Right now I’m loving it.
I love some Tauers (LADDM, Le Maroc, Vetiver Dance) and like (or, at least, *understand*) almost all that I’ve tried. But my sample of Une Rose Chypree had to be rehomed, too. Actually, it might have been my greatest perfume disappointment to date: so “me” by description and a total scrubber in reality 🙁
I generally like Tauers, but Incense Rose was just awful to my nose. His roses are all pretty different, though, so even if one doesn’t work out, it doesn’t necessarily disqualify the others.
Me too though I haven’t given up yet! I should love it according to the notes. On the other hand I enjoyed Une Rose Chypree which I was expecting not to like.
I find some Tauers a challenge too. There is something in the base of some that just overwhelms everything else on me. My favorites (so far) are Zeta, Noontide Petals, and Vetiver Dance. I haven’t tried Lonesome Rider yet, but it seems like it should be right up my alley. I remember liking but not loving Rose Chypree and Incense Rose, but I haven’t smelled either in a long time, so may be time to revisit. I also didn’t like Le Maroc pour Elle. On me it kind of smelled like really cheap incense, like something you’d buy in a drugstore.. or a gas station.
I don’t love the Tauer base (“Tauerade”?), but I do like Une Rose Chypree and Noontide Petals.
Mon musc à moi. Last time I wore it, it turned into an interesting, bitter vanilla, but it took a WHILE. The candy opening makes it kind of fun, I suppose, but there is something scratchy about it.
I can’t wait to play with this one and see what it does. It’s been a while since I’ve tried it on my skin. I’m going to try it when it’s hot.
What a good idea!
You know, next week it’s supposed to hit 80-something, so you might see some experiment replication . . .
It’s fresh and windy here today, decided to go with Dries Van Noten. This winter has been so mild here in San Diego I have hardly had a chance to enjoy my favorite winter scents. Fortunately it’s still cold in Montréal, hopefully it will still be cold enough at the end of April to get a few more days of cool weather scents before it heats up.
love Dries, you smell wonderful.
SOTD is Pure White Linen. Working my way through some EL minis. So far I like everything but haven’t found any loves.
I’m wearing Fleur de Chine today, from the swapmeet (thank you, Farouche!). I traded Stephen Jones for it, and I am so happy to say that FdC is much more my style than poor Stephen was.
You smell exquisite.
You smell great! 🙂
Revisiting an old friend today: SOTD is the original Givenchy Hot Couture edp, a cold-weather favorite of mine that’s been sadly neglected lately. I wanted to enjoy its peppery/raspberry/magnolia yumminess – I think of it as a ‘grownup gourmand’ – one more time before the weather warms up much further. And I am enjoying it immensely, as well as the beautiful, if somewhat tippy, art deco bottle. How can this fragrance be 16 years old already???
Back at work. I would have been wearing vintage Jacques Fath Green Water if I had not left my pocketbook on the living room couch. 🙁 Pray that I don’t get pulled over by the fuzz.
Ack! I don’t think I can function without my purse. Have you even got a phone?
No phone, no cash, no driver’s ID, not even a hairbrush! But now I’m home and reunited with my dear handbag…
I am doing a week of “fun” perfumes. Today, the fun is in the name.
SOTD = Lush 25:43
My first thought was there is no book of the bible called Lush. Upon further reading, it turned out that the numbers represented the amount of time it took the perfumer to come up with it. Really.? Whatever.
However long it took, it’s actually a pretty fun perfume with its lime opening and immediate morphing into a tenacious blend of caramel and tonka . There’s supposed to be flowers in there but I couldn’t smell them (which is perfectly fine). Many revews cautioned against overspraying but to me, it’s not any more potent than Coromandel. I used 3 sprays from my skinny 9mL travel atomizer and no one had passed out from the fumes.
And speaking of passing out from fumes, I got stuck behind a champion farter on the way in this morning! I thought I got lucky with a very nice seat on the train. Note to self: if it is too good to be true, it IS too good to be true.
Regarding Lush, please comment if you have tried Lord of Misrule perfume. I’m wondering if I should pay a premium to get a FB on evilbay. I really like the shower cream despite its yucky green color…but it is sooo good.
I really like that one, and agree it’s fun!
I would consider most of the Lush perfumes and 4160Tuesdaya as fun, at least judging by perfume name and quite often, the juice as well.
Good note to self 😉
Not the fumes you want on the way to work.. :/
Nope!
Poor you. Last night and now this morning too. What are these people eating and where are their manners?
I know, right. In an enclosed space no less!
Good morning, everyone! It’s nearly autumn here, though unseasonably warm, and in anticipation of cooler weather, I’m wearing Divine’s Divine. However, there’s such a big disjoin between my elegantly feminine, “perfumey” perfume and my outfit that you would think I had worked it out with a compass and a protractor (that must date me! Do those things still exist?). Anyhow, here’s a cloud of gorgeous Divine, full of memories of Paris, swirling round my ripped jeans, black t-shirt and boots. I don’t know this happened, ‘cos I usually enjoy telling a coherent “story” with my combinations of colours and clothes and perfume, but somehow today I want to kick backsides ans smell like an utter lady while I do it! Watch out, work! The beast is back….or something. Be wel, NST-ites everywhere.
I think the incongruity puts you squarely ‘on theme’ with the community project of fun perfume. :^)
I bet the rips are very tasteful. I got my hair cut last week and saw a parade of cheaply-ripped jeans.
Mmmm, maybe tasteful. I suppose the “rips” are more distressing of the fabric than anything. I quite like the look–gives the impression that these are the only jeans I’ve owned for the last decade, and I’ve thriftily worn them right down to the weft. Or the warp. Or the woof…I’m confused. Anyway, they have served their purpose today. I can’t really claim that the beast was back, more that the lamb had returned, but that was enough.
Wearing Jour d’Hermes today. Couldn’t believe my eyes when its white box with unmistakable gold lettering peeked out at me from a bottom clearance shelf at TJMaxx yesterday. 85ml for $49. I had sworn off buying any more, but… come on. What a glorious, happy, effortlessly elegant scent. I feel more guilty about the $14 spent on also-purchased CK Reveal than on this beauty. It’s bottled sunlight.
(suprise-love for Reveal as well, but will save that for another SOTD post : )
Nice deal, congrats!
Oh, well done! It was clearly a meant thing. I’m dying to come to the States some day soon and do some rummaging at one of these TJ Maxx places. I’d never heard of the stores until I started reading NST, and now the bargains I hear about make my mouth water. Oh, and I love your description of “bottled sunshine”.
Thank you, Robin!!
Thank you, Waterdragon! TJMaxx is a must should you make it state-side. Half the time, the shelves look like someone turned a shopping cart upside down but that’s just part of the fun. Like going on a treasure hunt, digging for gold. : )
TJMaxx is quite amazing from time to time. That bottle was waiting just for you. 🙂
It WAS just waiting for me! 🙂 Pretty sure I scared the beegees out of any shoppers within a 10 ft radius at the moment my eyes hit that white H box. Gasped out loud, clutched my chest, and yelled, “Shut. Up!”
Congratulations! My TJMaxx has Elizabeth Arden Red Door, Vera Wang, and Fancy Nights flankers. Clearly I should be shopping at yours.
There’s hope for you too! Took 10 years of scouting my store to come up with a deal like that one. Otherwise, a likewise sea of Red Door, Simpson and Bieber. ????
Wearing Dame Perfumery Mandarin, Neroli & Cedar. It’s more of a public service today, though, as my congestion is limiting my sense of smell. Oh well.
That’s a really nice one. You smell great!!!
After a Hermes Monday (Merveilles, Jour, Vanille Galante), Tuesday is for
Chanel Eau de Cologne, Beige, and No. 5. Thank heaven for samples and decants.
Sometimes when I spritz No. 5 I say “Numéro Cinq” in my head. It’s my secret personal fragrance mantra to go with the wrist-to-nose perfume salute. Now how about a secret handshake? 😉
Nothing today, because of a headache. The woman in front of me in yoga class was wearing either Angel or one of Angel’s offspring and it was not a good combination with headache and inversions (to be fair, I don’t like Angel when I’m feeling perfectly well either).
I hope your headache goes away soon Doc.
Ugh, wearing Angel to yoga is baffling. Hope you feel better
A headache and no perfume boo! Hope it goes away soon.
My yoga teacher would gently send that student somewhere to do breathing and silent chanting .
SOTD was my current fav Mimosa and Cardamom. All the lovely descriptions above made me crave Alahine. Since it will be warm tomorrow, I’ll wear a bit to bed!
You smell lovely!
Late to check in, as J and my daughter spent half a day snorkling and I, consequently, reading on the beach. Wearing Lush Lust now, to match the surroundings.
You smell wonderful! Lust is such a perfect scent for a tropical evening!
Thank you! It does work pretty well. And I’m sitting on our balcony, so I could spray freely 🙂
Oh, sitting on a balcony, sounds like a dream… Enjoy your evening! 🙂
Well, OUR daughter.
Wearing SL Bas de Soie today. I hadn’t worn it in a long time so decided to remedy that today.
Amouage Majan attar
Hello everyone! I’m late to the party today. But, like the saying goes, better late than never. My SOTD is Amour Nocturne. Still can smell it from when I sprayed it this morning. Good stuff.
