It's Hump Day Tuesday-the-day-before-Hump-Day (thanks PriscillaE!) and the Ides of March. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a dab of April Aromatics Jasmina. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Traktir mixed with Kusmi Anastasia.
Reminder: 3/18 will be I Hate...Oh Wait. Wear a perfume you love that features a note or style you always thought you hated. (suggested by pixel)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My Barneys love yourself came in mail yesterday.????
I bought mostly some skin products but did get FM dries van noten, …. the one small spray.
So that’s my SOTD!
Nice! I’m curious what came in the goodie bag this year. I was good and didn’t get one (shouldn’t spend that kind of money right now).
Yum. I want some FM DVN.
Me too!
FMDVN was a skin scent on me, for the price point I wanted more more more. Samsara is my favorite sandalwood, the older bottle
I really like DVN!
Me too!
Love DVN. I also have the travel spray. Thank goodness for those!
SOTD: Eau de Narcisse Bleu (Hermes).
Perfect for March.
This one is so nice.
Great choice!
Bad day for poor Ceasar. Good day for me since I am wearing Guerlain SDV from a kind swapper. I can see why Eau de Missions is Compared to this one- it is the poor mans SDV. Very similar, but SDV is much smoother, richer, more buttery, and all around more wonderful.
Happy Tuesday to all????
Sorry Ceasar is having a bad day. Hopefully he’ll be ok.
I think she means Julius Caesar…who was not ok 😉
Ha, ok. I clearly have not woken up yet…. Time for another cup of tea.
I am on my third cup already, so I’m probably ahead of you 🙂
This thread had me cracking up!
This misunderstanding was adorable.
If he WERE alive, I’m quite sure he would appreciate your good wishes! ????
I got Ceasar’s back 😉
Et tu, Brute?? HA HA HA HA 🙂
I am wearing SDV layered with Mitsouko vintage cologne. This was suggested in a perfume book I found in the library. I love the combo but lasting power is not great. I would like to try the eau des missions one day.
Hera, if you are one the US is be happy to send some your way. Drop me an email at taiga101 at the yahoolandia dawt com????
Estee Lauder Private Collection today – one of my favorite spring perfumes.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for fragrance shopping in New Orleans? My husband (college professor) and boys (high school students) have the same week off for Spring Break this year, for the first time in about 15 yrs, and we are planning to spend the week in NO visiting a friend and doing touristy stuff.
Hove and Bourbon French!
Definitely Hove and Bourbon french, along with Avery Fine Perfumery and Saks
I wrote a guest post on perfume shopping in New Orleans in Undina’s blog. Just google Undina hajusuuri New Orleans. I did not go to Saks as there is one within spiitting distance of my building.
SOTD is Goutal’s Tubéreuse, which is gorgeous. It doesn’t rival Vamp or Fracas but it’s a very nice addition to my collection of tuberoses.
Tea; Sikkim Temi. An ok tea, but no more than that.
AG Tubereuse is among my favorite tuberose ‘soliflores.’ I heard it was discontinued, which is terribly sad, is that true? I recently added MPG Tubereuse to my collection but it’s not as good as the AG.
The Goutal is indeed discontinued, I got my bottle from eBay, after a search of well over a year. I really like the MPG as well, but it’s not as much of a soliflore as the Goutal, it reminds me a little of Fracas actually.
I keep hoping some study will reveal these discontinuations are bad for business.
🙂
That sounds lovely – I have been intrigued by review by understand it’s discontinued so enjoy!
The Goutal is one I’ve never managed to try – shame it’s d/c.
While I’m sorry that it has been discontinued I think there are plenty of good replacements for this particular fragrance. The original Monsieur, Fier and Vétiver are a bigger loss, as they were much more unique. That said, it’s very nice and I’m glad I got my hands on this bottle. But; I’m a Goutal nut, and I adore tuberose.
Robin, what do you think of Jasmina? I’ve got one other from April Aromatics (Erdenstern) and loved it and might look into more from them.
I’m in Iris Cendre today. Lots of rooty iris in the opening and now am starting to get some of the incense.
Very pretty! Lots of ylang, so it’s sweet. I’ve heard it described as “very indolic” but I am not finding it so. My tolerance for indoles is high though.
Nice. I do like some ylang, so I think I need to find a sample of this. I don’t mind it being a little indolic either.
I love Iris Cendre so much! You smell great.
I like it a lot too. Can’t go wrong with iris and incense 🙂
Glad you like it! I’m a fan.
I am in Alahine. My birthday is at the end of the month and a full bottle of this may be in my future. Thanks to all the my NST enablers for having me try this.
Tea this morning is Marco Polo and I am making a smoothie later with berries and spinach. No breakfast yet-for some reason I have no appetite, which is very unusual for a nursing mom
Alahiiiiiine! I heart Alahine.
If I ever enabled a purchase of Alahine, it really should be credited to you since you hooked me on it in the first place…
You get an enabler pin Perfume Sniffer!
You smell wonderful – and the smoothie sounds pretty yum too!
Alanine is no 1 on my list of perfumes to sniff on our London trip.
Have a wonderful trip, London and perfume sniffing sounds amazing..
Thanks, I’m sure we will! I’m a Londoner originally, and although I don’t live that far out, with 2 small ones under 5, I don’t go there nearly enough. A kind friend who works at the Tate has given me free art passes, which give u free admission to many major exhibitions, so I now have a resolution to make time to go London and use them when I can.
As much as I love them, it’s so nice to have some ‘me’ time as well.
I understand..I have a newborn and a toddler, I can’t remember the last time I took a trip by myself!
Twins! Alahiiiiiiiine! 🙂
You smell wonderful Sheri! I am rarely scent twins with anyone! This made me feel great
I guess I need to get on board and write Alahiiiiiiiine with many “i”s!
Alahine really is beautiful, isn’t it? My computer’s autocorrect just reminded me why I put the extra i’s in – to keep it from changing it to Alanine. I should go find out what that is. 🙂
Alanine is a amino acid-I looked it up for you!
🙂
You definitely deserve a bottle for your b-day! Another Alahiiiiiiiiiiine! fan here.
Ah..another enabler! HAHA
Thanks Elisa P! 31 RC was on my fb list but I got some during the split meet. So now Alahiiiiiine is on top. The more I wear it the more addicted I have become. Its really refreshing to sample something that I adore, lately its been a bunch of duds
It wasn’t love at first sniff for me. I tried it when I was a little sick on a warm day and it turned my stomach. Glad I gave it another go, though, in cooler weather. Though last time I wore it I thought “raisins!”. I like raisins, however 🙂
Ala-hiney!!!!!!!
Great birthday idea – go for it!
Your smoothie sounds good and healthy. I feel like all I do is nurse and eat. And binge watch Gilmore Girls in the middle of the night. 🙂
She is so good to eat healthy! My favorite go-to when nursing in the late afternoon was THREE of those super rich, fat loaded sugar cookies in the grocery store, with the thick layer of icing! HA HA If I ate three now, I’d be sick as a dog, but at the time it was HEAVEN, with a big glass of milk…..
I wonder why my kids love sweets so much???? 🙂
YUM! I do get my chocolate in though…
Today is foggy and gloomy and wet. My most favourite of days to wear Prada infusion d’Iris. They compliment each other so well.
Pretty much the same gloomy weather here!
I love a good moody day for inspiration.
Infusion d’Iris is rainy and misty indeed!
My sister and brother in law were all visiting this weekend and my parents arrived for a Sunday-Monday trip, so I was busy being host all weekend and couldn’t come to play. I missed you all. Still in a bummer mood that I’m trying to shake, and this place always helps.
I did manage to see that Eswift and DottieNC have returned to us and are new moms – congratulations!! I’d been wondering and was hoping all was well, so I’m delighted to see that. Hope you both get some good sleep soon.
Santal Carmin today for comfort on this overcast day. Trying to reshape my mood but I’m not there yet.
Have a good day!
I hope santal carmin does the trick for you. Having people visit and making sure they are taken care of can wipe you out.
It really is exhausting, isn’t it? Trying to make sure four people with wildly different tastes are happy, entertained, and exposed to the best that New York has to offer vs. the worst, especially when they are not always huge fans of my adopted home, was a little draining. But they left seemingly contented and well-fed, so I feel like the exertion was worth it.
Hosting in New Orleans must be a lot of pressure too, huh? Such a beautiful city – I must get back there soon.
Let me know if you ever visit New Orleans 🙂
This weather doesn’t help much either, but hopefully the clouds will clear out (literally and figuratively) soon.
All of you and your sweet words help a great deal.
Sorry about the down in the dumps mood – I really do think it’s that time of year for those of us starting to see inklings of spring – we need some sun! Hope the Santal Carmin helps.
Thanks so much SophieC!
I’ve been moody lately but notice I get like that around season change overs. Little things that normally wouldn’t bother that much become a bit overblown. But it usually resolves itself with time. I’m hoping things will shift for you too, and of course sandalwood is good medicine!
Thanks dear! Mine is connected back to my “the past isn’t dead” moment from a few weeks ago. I’m getting over it, but it involves emotional processing that is less than fun. But yes, I am not a fan of the seasonal change over either. And daylight savings time also threw my schedule off more than usual this year. Wah wah – I’m fine, and I’m lucky.
So bummed I won’t be seeing you a Sniffapalooza!
Ah, gotcha.
I’m bummed too and I hate moving so double bummer.
Maybe Fall Sniffa. I *would* like to go to CB I Hate Perfume shop in Bklyn some time in the near future and hope The Posse will come along!
I am really bad at family visits, even family I love love love. Hoping that once they’ve arrived they’ll cheer you up?
They actually arrived last Friday and left yesterday, and it was nice to have them, but yes, it can be hard to be the host at times. You just want everything to go well, and in a city like New York (where I unfortunately can’t host them in my house) a lot of things can be out of your control.
Thanks so much for the concern!
How do you find Santal Carmin? I know I have a sample amoungst many many Atelier samples. I haven’t tried it yet.
It is my favorite of the Atelier line, though I will admit that I’m hard pressed to find a sandalwood scent I *don’t* like. It’s got a bit of spice to it, and is easy to wear. I have a platonic guy friend who politely says “that’s nice” to most things I present, but his eyes widened with this one and was like “Wow – that’s good.”
Hello! Thanks for the welcome! It’s so nice to be back. Hard to believe that I lacked the mental energy to post my SOTD for three whole weeks. :-p
I can believe it! I’ve never had kids but I’ve seen the sleep deprivation new babies can cause. How do you feel? And do you have your new place yet??
Welcome back, mama! Not hard to believe, at all. I hope your presence here means that you’re starting to revive, and I hope the new wee one is doing well!
Hope you get to setlle down and have a little good time with your own wonderful company, honey. Being a good host can drain a lot of energy, however cherished and loved the guests are.
Springing forward into DST doesn’t help either. Good to see you back!
Ann Estelle says “Snap out of it!”
hajusuuri says “Go away Ann Estelle!” I do hope that the past will fade soon for you and you will enjoy the signs of new life in the Spring!
Histoire de parfums Moulin Rouge is my SOTD and I’m about to make a cup of peppermint tea.
A sample of Indult Tihota, a spectacular, indescribable vanilla with tufts of caramel and marshmallow and cake. Two co-workers said, “Something smells REALLY good!”, and it was me. But $200! Is it 50% better than Un Bois Vanille? (No.) Is it five times more pleasurable than CSP Vanille Extreme? (Probably not.) At $100 I’d snap it up, but $200 is crazy.
I feel that way about aspirational pricing in general. There are many lines that I quite simply ‘boycott’ by never trying or sampling because I just won’t pay ridiculous prices.
today is day 2 of my 5 days of violets
sotd: Balenciaga Paris
I like this although every time I wear it, it smell more and more aquatic to me
Yes, I find that sometimes this is extremely aquatic, and some days that aspect is really dimmed down. Still have not found the patter to why that happens.
ever since I had the realization that Balenciaga Paris reminds me of Byblos, it has become so watery/aquatic. This isn’t a bad thing, just weird. I recall the first few wearings, I thought Balenciaga Paris was a powdery violet veil….now it’s not powdery at all.
I find if I wear this is the summer. ( which is quite humid, where I am ) I get a heady, powdery, Violet aura all day.
As soon as the weather drops, the water washes away all the powder- and the joy from the perfume.
Since you’re doing violet week, have you tried the Borsari violet? I’m curious about that one and will probably order a sample.
Yes I have had the Borsari. It’s plastic doll head on me 🙁
Hmmmm. Although sometimes I like plastic doll head, like in Chinatown. I’ll still give it a go. Your violet week is inspiring me. It was one of my first “love” notes.
I should drag out all my violet samples since Misia is not doing it for me.
OJ woman also has a strong violet note.. it is on the list of notes, but I started really noticing it only after I was half through the bottle
This is a nice one! I should give it a sniff, I haven’t smelled it for a while.
Retrying my small decant/large sample of Misia and hoping to get the violets today. It’s been mostly rooty iris the last three times I’ve tried it (which is not really my thing).
I feel like the lone person who can’t get on the Misia bandwagon. It smells like plastic doll head to me. Can’t do it. And rose/violet perfumes are a favorite of mine. So not liking Misia stumps me. Oh well. I have more than enough already so it’s probably good when things don’t work!
I was sent a sample of Misia by Nordies…and I shoved it off on a friend. I happen to love rose/violet scents and I love the smell of perfumed lipstick, so me not liking Misia was super weird!
Nope, you’re not alone. I keep giving it another try and hoping that it will be anything other than rooty iris, but so far it’s not.
Misia was a scrubber on me. I thought I would absolutely adore it, but the powder note turned into rancid pancake makeup and horchata.
Ha ha ha!!
Me…five is it now? I’m glad others have been enjoying it, just didn’t suit me at all.
Not alone, Misia is the third Exclusif I just can’t wear/bear (Jersey is the other, and 1932 is pretty but not me)
I didn’t warm up to Misia. Money saved I’d say
I think I get mostly iris from Misia too, with little whiffs of rose. I don’t like the violet-rose makeup scents like lipstick rose, so this is probably why I like Misia! But I do wonder if there is something wrong with my nose, or if Misia smells differently than some of the ad copy suggests.
I like Misia but cannot stand, absolutely abhor Lipstick Rose. I am shuddering just thinking about LR…apologies to those who love it (e.g. farouche).
This is pretty much how I feel about LR too, apologies to all who love it. Hence by surprise when I took so immediately to Misia. To me, they aren’t alike at all.
On me, Misia’s violet is strong in the first few minutes, and reminds me very much of violet candies, but then it fades. I did *not* get plastic doll head from it when I tried it, and that’s a note that I loathe, so now I’m afraid to revisit it…
Is it hump day? I thought hump day was Wednesday. Oh well. SOTD is Bois Blonds from my Atelier discovery set.
This is how I feel. Completely.
No, you are right. Hump day is the middle of the week. Unless Robin’s week ends tomorrow, she needs an upgrade to coffee. 🙂
It’s DST. EVERYONE needs a coffee upgrade today. 🙂
I’m starting to feel like I belong to the world again, but it occurred to me this morning – If we are going to continue participating in DST, why not do it on Friday night/Saturday morning so that we can work the grogginess out over the weekend? I realize that doesn’t work for everyone, but for the majority of people (who work M-F, 9-5) it seems like that would be better.
Our clocks (UK) go forward at the end of March, always on a Saturday night, which helps. And going forward was much easier than back when we had very small children – 5:30 am starts became 6:30 etc…
SOTD Sycomore
LOL!!! Apparently, yes, I need an espresso STAT.
And, fixed. Who can keep track?
Its Wednesday here. So you got hump day right for once! Hee hee.
Can only please some of you at a time 🙂
I thought hump day was Wednesday too..who knows!
I LITERALLY DID NOT EVEN NOTICE the “hump day” thing.
Moar cawfee pls.
No SOTD yet, but it will be either Traversee du Bosphore or Arquiste 57. It’s grey and gloomy again and I want something cozy.
Right now I’m really enjoying a cup of Earl Grey and a piece of blueberry pie leftover from yesterday. This is the breakfast of champions.
This sounds like a wonderful breakfast.
That’s an excellent breakfast, to be sure.
Your breakfast sounds better then what I had!
A+ breakfast. I resisted the lure of Girl Scout cookies today, but who knows about tomorrow.
I swear they are made with crack. It’s everyone’s yearly crack fix.
I think if you eat them in a bowl with milk on top, they’re a complete protein. 😉
Samoas ARE practically granola bars, aren’t they?
Ahh, two of my favorite perfumes. Either way you’ll smell great.
Pie for breakfast is the best!
Coromandel today – from a new small bottle bought this weekend when on a quick escape from an all weekend work get together. I am much more taken with it than I expected although who knows how it will work as the weather warms.
I am going to have to have a long chat with Donatella soon…
We can ask for Donatella for forgiveness together..between samples, splits, and me wanting a fb…good grief
Glad it’s not just me – and happy to send you some (assuming I can send to the US?) – let me know and I’ll ping you my email.
that was so sweet and kind of you to offer, I have a small decant that I am still working on so I am ok for now.
Oooooh, SophieC, we’re scent twins today. I thought I was going to drain my sample today, but it looks like there is enough for one more application…
Hey twin – enjoy! I’d be happy to send some if I am able to send to the US – like I said to lovetosmellgood let me know and I’ll ping you my email.
Oh coromandel is so gorgeous, congrats on you’re new bottle.
Thanks – will bring along for testing etc when we meet up.
Congrats on the full bottle! I just split mine, and now I’m wondering if I should get a back up… 😉
Coromandel is such trouble for me–some days I get more of a powdery sweetness in it, which I love, and some days it’s very green and musky, which I like less. On the good days I want the enormous bottle, on the other days I think my 2ml sample is plenty.
Ha a feeling I know all too well although thankfully not with Coromandel. Eau Premiere veers all over the place on me.
I feel like the odd woman out where Coromandel is concerned. I liked it at first sniff, and then it just seemed to get louder and LOUDER and **LOUDER!!** on me as the hours wore on, until I felt like I was just wearing some monstrous, braying, synthetic wood thing that simply would not settle down. Take out whatever that ingredient is, and I think I could fancy it.
Probably the patchouli? Oddly enough, I get the same effect where Coromandel gets louder and then stays constant after 2 hours. However, I like loud fragrances and the patchouli in Coromandel is perfection for me.
Have you tried it dabbed? That might temper it a bit.
Coromandel is very loud to me, too! I’ve only dabbed once from my sample, and after the first fifteen minutes I decided to ignore it, like it was a rude person. Hopefully next time I will be a little more open to exploring it further.
You smell very nice and I think Coromandel works well in warm weather as well, although maybe not when it’s very hot.
31 Rue Cambon today–it’s really grown on me. I’m almost out of my first sample, but fortunately I got two of the like little 2ml sprays, so I don’t have to have about a FB just yet.
have to think* about!
You smell great. I know I’m going to end up splurging on a bottle when I’m done with my sample.
It’s not a splurge. 31RC is a necessity!
Hahaha! There’s so much I could say about first world problems on this, but it still made me laugh so much I’ll just go with it. Yep, I need it :p
I decided yesterday it’s going to be my scent of the week, as my “don’t mess with me scent” and I’m still happy with my choice, it is fortunate that I bought the big bottle and can spray with abandon
Oooh, so decadent!
Wish it was hump day, but only Tuesday here. SOTD is Ostara. I like it for a Spring day.
Only Tuesday here too. Monday’s ugly little sister 🙂
Hermes Neroli Doré – spring in a bottle 🙂
Yum!
I can’t wait to try this one. I think Neroli Dore will make it to my Saks by next month.
SOTD is Cloon Keen Atelier “Copacetic”. Although this is ‘citrus with a twist’, it is a very quiet scent on me. And to do it some justice, if I weren’t making a point of trying all the Cloon Keen samples I wouldn’t have chosen this one. What I think of as “lesser citrus” scents like bergamot or petitgrain don’t last on my skin and do nothing for me anyway (so I don’t even wish they would). I could turn this into a positive review by writing ‘this perfume delivered what it promised’ ;^)
How are you finding this line generally? I saw your comment re Lune de Givre a few days ago but wasn’t able to reply, meant to say I too thought I couldn’t smell it and then a few hours later all sorts of cool angelica and iris kept on wafting around me. Think it might be one that disappears and reappears.
Purely because it’s from my home town, I ordered a sample of everything that Les Senteurs had. So far I find the perfumes rather quiet, but I am holding the most promising back for the end of the week. :^)
I am in Bois de Violette from a teeny tiny sample and it is not enough. I need to go dump the rest of it on myself and procure more ASAP! What was it I was saying about not buying more perfume this quarter?
Hehe I have just given up – plus my online shopping trolley at escentual is looking a little full…You smell simply gorgeous.
That one was fleeting on me and ended using an entire 1ml sample in one wearing. It definitely needs to be sprayed, I think. But you smell lovely!
I love BdV! I really want a FB of this too. And you’re right, a sample vial is never enough of this. It’s so faint on me I need to bathe in it!
I lurve BdV. It was one of my first SL scents. You smell lovely.
I haven’t tried this one yet. Is it violetty?
It’s pretty much only violet and a bit of woods. It’s a sweet violet, not green. It reminds me of Choward’s violet candies, which is a good thing.
You smell beautiful.
SOTD = vintage Chanel No. 19 (EdC) over the remnant of Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze.
Yesterday Haze is supposed to be a fig scent, but on I get coconut and carroty iris. Quite lovely. Josh Meyer seems to have a knack for unexpected combinations that work.
Luckily my No. 19 hasn’t turned a bit. It is all aldehydes and greenery, mainly from vetiver, in the beginning. Can’t wait for the iris to arrive. Bring on the spring!
Yesterday Haze is still my favorite Josh Meyer scent.
Nice! I only had enough in my sample for one application, so I am considering getting a 2 ml spray ($6) to try it more. I can imagine it is satisfying in the summer.
I haven’t checked out any of the Imaginary Authors yet. Worth it? Also, love No. 19! I was craving Iris yesterday.
I was introduced to the line last week, and apparently they are local to Portland! Check out the Fragrantica reviews – some people rave about the scents. Also, the concept and packaging is interesting and the notes they use are unusual but wearable. If you like Iris or Fig I definitely recommend trying Yesterday Haze.
Love no 19, I wore it yesterday.
Love it, too! Almost scent twins 🙂
Miller Harris Fleur Oriental for me today. I’m really trying not to neglect bottles which have been woefully neglected in the past.
Already gone by 2.00pm, so will re spray with this, or maybe Epic or Iris Poudre, these are my ‘Focus’ scents for college.
MH Fleur Oriental is really nice. Very powdery, which is often my thing. I have been kicking myself for years because I used to have it in parfum/extrait, but swapped it for something else thinking the edp was sufficient. I have missed it ever since.
Ahhh, love Fleur Oriental. 🙂
SOTD is Alahine to combat some rather bone-chilling weather we’re having here. But an aside – Meredifay, you are absolutely right that Hanbury and Seville are totally different. I tried them arm-to-arm last night, and after the first five or ten minutes Hanbury turned into something sort of nougat-y and very nice … but it took until this morning before Seville finally burned off whatever it is that doesn’t work for me. Ah, well.
Ala-hiney!!!!!!
🙂
I adore Hanbury, and am one of the few who is not smitten by Seville. I still have a sample of it and will test again, but I bought a bottle of Hanbury the day I tested it. 🙂
I love all three and own Seville and Alahine ????. I wonder how Hanbury and Houbigants Oranger en Fleurs compare. Will have to test those side by side too.
If you do, please let us know how they compare. I’ve been intrigued by references to the Houbigant for a while now, but haven’t had the chance to try it yet.
I just realized that Hanbury could be my choice for this Friday’s theme – it’s totally turning out to be a “but wait a minute …” kind of scent for me. 🙂
I wish I could send some of our sunshine to those of you in the gloom. It’s bright and already getting hot here and we’re stymied by the man from the ranch who has come to spray the weeds in the fence-line. The plan was to get up and tackle the removal of a downed tree before it got too warm but we can’t let the cats out until he leaves and we don’t dare leave four bored kitties in the house unsupervised.
I’m wearing a hefty dose of Jub. XXV in the hopes that the slight fruitiness plays nicely with the sunscreen. So far, so good.
Another cute kittie pic MM.
Thanks. This one’s Titania, the kittens’ grandma (which makes her sound old, though she’s only about two and a half). She’s a lazy bum and a bit on the voluptuous side so her nickname is Titanica. She has NOT been out helping us work.
Titanica! Ha! We had a Tub-cat-de-Lardo once and now a Maisie aka Maisiepants aka Pants aka Chubbiepants.
It actually does get even more derogatory. I’m slightly embarrassed to say that her other nickname rhymes with ‘bits’ and when she has flopped over for belly rubs is prefaced with “floppy”.
I’m looking for a holiday fragrance and wearing Guerlain Terracotta. It does in fact match the theme as well, as I found it unbearably sweet, the first time I tried it. Now I enjoy it quite a bit.
If you have any recommendations for fragrances for a holiday in the sun, please share – I’m going to Martinique next week. Otherwise it’ll be Bronze Goddess again…
Lucky you! I seem to quite look cooling scents in the sun so probably not what you’re after but O de Lancôme and the various Tom Ford Neroli or somesuch. If you are looking for really tropical I would go for Songes as it really feels truly ‘island escape’ yet with that distinctly elegant vibe Goutal does so well. Or any BWF such as Carnal Flower would be pretty glorious.
Look forward to seeing what others suggest and meanwhile ahvea wonderful holiday.
Oh I love Neroli Portofino as a beach and summer scent too!
Thank you! The reason I’m so late with this is that I had already made up my mind to buy the new Ford, Soleil Blanc. It fitted my concept so perfectly and that white bottle looked exactly right. But then I smelled the fragrance and was disappointed. I didn’t expect anything spectacular, but it was too faint and – at least on the first try – clearly inferior to BG. I’ll try it again, before making up my mind, but I’m not too hopeful.
My thoughts exactly.
Such a wasted opportunity, it could have been excellent.
I thought of recommending Songes too, also lovely layered with Bronze Goddess (Elisa’s suggestion), or for salty, Eau des Merveilles!
Have a lovely time Annikky!
Thank you! Great ideas, both.
This may be an odd choice in a coal’s to Newcastle kind of way (does anyone still say that?), but I love Sel Marin at the beach. I’m at Miami Beach now, though, and can’t remember what I’ve brought with me as I’ve done so much perfume shopping here. Oopsie!
Salty fragrances make perfect sense for the beach, in my opinion. I should have a sample of this, I’ll dig it out. Thank you!
Manoumalia!
Good one! You know, I’ve never tried it, although I’m sure I would love it. I need to see if I can get hold of some before leaving.
What I actually brought with me: Bombay Bling. Also great for a holiday.
You are entirely right, I have a mini of this, should bring it along.
Love.
Have a great trip, I went to St Lucia for my honeymoon which is just south of there. I wore Chanel Eau de Cologne
The Caribbean is so lovely!
Another island I visited on my honeymoon was Bequia from there was visited the island of Mustique.
Thank you! And what a great honeymoon scent! Beautiful, but not conventionally romantic and great for that climate… Well done.
Yes, Chanel EDC was much much stronger on the island of St Lucia then on the island of Manhattan that is for sure. But so refreshing after a long hot day…
I’m suggesting Delrae Wit because it’s fabulous and has good depth to it.
I am ashamed to admit this is another one I haven’t tried… Although unlike most people here, the only Delrae that has really worked for me so far is Bois de Paradis.
I really wanted to like the Delraes, but like you, I only really enjoyed Bois de Paradis and even it is a touch sweet for me. Alas.
Wit has been the only one I’ve tried, but it left such a great impression on me when I wore it in Florida. It was the only fragrance sample I had with me for a week that didn’t completely die from the humidity and the heat. It wasn’t overpowering at all and was like a skin scent, but sometimes I’d get wafts of the flowers and amber in it and think how amazing it was to feel so light yet have such depth to it.
Light but deep, yes.
I’ll have to try Wit again in the summer!
Me too! Perhaps we are scent cousins…
I think we have a pretty big overlap – not twins, but cousins, yes. I always make a note when you like something, as chances are that I would like it too. It’s also comforting/reassuring to know that you had similar feelings about Soleil Blanc.
I recall sniffing PdN Just un Reve and thinking “tropical holiday!”. I actually might revisit that one, myself.
That vacation sounds blissful. I’m going vicariously with you. Hope you don’t mind 😉
You are very welcome 🙂 And I should re-sniff JuR!
I am so looking forward to the trip, I want some warmth and sun and reading time and should be able to get all three…
I love Teracotta on hot summer days.
Yes, I can see it working very well.
Sounds like a lovely vacation! I’ve been to the Caribbean only once, to St Martin, during the first Gulf War. It was e-m-p-t-y, we were often the only customers in a restaurant; a bit eerie. I bought my first perfumes there, in an attempt to impress my future MIL: Nocturnes de Caron, K de Krizia, and Houbigant Raffinee. I’ve no idea how I selected them, and I never wore them much. The bottles disappeared somewhere along the way.
Recommendations… well as much as I love fig, I find it a bit heavy for hot humid weather. And BG seems a bit redundant since I already smell of sunscreen from the sunscreen 🙂 So: citrus, of course, and light florals. Vetiver can be quite cooling. Or a cool incense: my favorite summer incense is Decennial (Luckyscent) Santal Sacre.
All duly noted, dear cousin. Thank you!
I’d probably keep it simple with Kai. Or possibly HdP Love Coco, L’AP Nuit de Tubereuse, L’AP Vanille Absolutement, and AG Ninfeo Mio.
Thank you! Kai is an excellent suggestion. I should in fact also see if I can order the shower gel in time, it would be perfect.
Have a wonderful trip!
Maybe try Eau de Rochas. I used this on my Miami vacation last summer. It held up well in the heat.
I saw the first rosebud on my rosebush today, so I’m celebrating with Rose Privée.
Lately, I’ve been having the devil of a time picking out rose notes in things that are definitely supposed to smell of rose, so it’s nice to know I’m not broken. Lots of roses in this one!
Lucky! My roses are still just stumps. I received a sample of Rose Privée recently, and notice a lot of pepper in it along with the roses – not that that’s a bad thing!
It’s been spring here for a few weeks, so I’ve been eyeing the rose hopefully for the past two weeks or so. . . You’ll get yours soon!
My RP is also a sample, and also very herby. It makes me think of a rose flavored cough drop. Again, not a bad thing! Good for springtime.
SOTD is FM Dans Tes Bras. I love this scent–especially for a rainy pre-Spring day.
I’m wearing old-school EL Private Collection. Dining w/ colleagues after work and want a low-key, non-disturbing scent for mealtime.
This weekend I’m going clothes shopping (long overdue!). I am strongly drawn to the idea of a work “uniform” to take all the time-wasting guesswork out of morning wardrobe. Half a dozen plain black t-shirts, half a dozen skirts/pants in khaki or sage green, a few pairs of black flats, and done.
I like the idea of a work uniform. I try to buy all my work clothes in one color palette so it’s easy to throw anything together.
That sounds like a really good idea. What’s your chosen color, if you don’t mind my nosiness?
As someone who has recently transitioned from 10 years of business casual to pink-scrubs-every-single-day, I can testify that not having to think about what to wear in the morning is WONDERFUL and worth it and time saving and everything you imagine it will be.
Yes o yes!! I feel encouraged in my quest by your declaration on this matter. I want that sense of settled peace and confidence so much. I find it very demoralizing to have to worry about how other people “read” my appearance differently every day based on what I wear.
I once worked in a record store where the dress code for all was black jeans, black T-shirt, black shoes or boots, like stagehands. It didn’t negate our individuality; it allowed people to look past our appearance and see our knowledge &experience.
OMG, yes to ‘uniforms’! Anything to eliminate the time wasted by not being able to decide on an outfit or having to start over after realizing that some pieces really don’t work together…!
True! Nothing like a morning dose of panic and uncertainty to prepare your self esteem for a day’s work. In my closet, nothing but nothing goes together. I got it all at Goodwill one mismatched piece at a time, and I can’t make it work. I want to start over.
Thanks for the inspiration. I’m wearing Private Collection too. Of course, it was just after Forgotten Friday that I found it tucked away.
Along with bastet we are triplets today. 🙂
Hail the Three Graces! 😀 Private Collection is so much a part of my scent landscape that I can’t quite believe it hasn’t existed forever. A true Goddess perfume.
…and maybe one or two cardigans. I’m trying to do the same when packing for travel but I usually end up overpacking anyway.
Good point about the cardigans; versatile layers are most wise. A few good plaid flannel or Madras shirts in neutral colors could also work…
Wearing all black today to work. Coco Noir just felt right. Not because it’s “Noir” (hah) but because I felt the vibe was perfect for the office and with my outfit.
It’s your outfit’s splash of color. 🙂
My exact thought! Like a nice scarf.
Or a signature necklace.
I am wearing some AG Eau du Fier (sadly discontinued) which is probably my favorite AG. I wonder if it didn’t sell or the restrictions on birch tar caused its dc status. It is a kissing cousin to Lonestar Memories, but more suave.
I am drinking a combo of mate and black tea from Mariage Freres which I think is called Brasilia. It is okay but I am hoping it will wake me up a bit. I feel like a zombie.
I am a huge MF tea fan. I have to try that one but in the US they don’t offer all their teas unfortunately.
Eau du Fier and Un Matin d’Orage are two of my favourite Goutals and pretty much the opposites of each other.
Fier was discontinued because of restrictions, and because it simply didn’t sell. It’s not my favourite Goutal, but I think it’s a brilliant scent, and not that fierce after the top notes have calmed down a bit. I always think of it as Lapsang with apricots.
I need extra wake-up power today so I’m wearing Eau de Reglisse: lemon, coffee, and licorice.
Is it working better then just drinking coffee to wake you up 😉
Oh I also drank a giant iced coffee to be sure
I’m in Dune today. I’ll probably need a refill on this one since I only had a half bottle left. I’m wondering how/why I’ve neglected this one! I guess when I got it it had little other competition.
It’s uplifting and “fresh” without being too clean or cold. The vanilla far drydown always surprises me as it’s kind of unexpected. It just makes me happy 🙂
It is beautiful, and you smell amazing! I also seem to overlook Dune but love it whenever I remember to wear it.
I am going to make sniffing this again my Friday project when I go to town. I wore it when it came out but can’t remember much about it …but was chuffed to see somewhere that wallflower is listed as a note. So glad you mentioned it!
SOTD is Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere. Cheers!
Cheers!
Woke up really late today. The whole time change thing really threw me off and wore me out. Wearing the dry down of Bal and about to hop in the shower. I did pick no 19 EDP as my SOTD yesterday and now it’s Deneuve’s turn.
I hope Pie Day at your bakery wasn’t too crazy!
Testing out SSS Lieu de Rêves. Too much heliotrope for me, but I still see the appeal.
I love heliotrope and I must have passed on a sample as I don’t have any recollection of ever trying this! Taking note…
SSS Lieu des Reves. This was a purse spray blind buy from Laurie’s archives page (discontinued!) when picking up a small bottle of Champagne des Bois. Lovely and soft, although my skin seems to be magnifying the iris over the violet. I’m good with that for today – it’s a little gray outside although trending warmer.
I read with interest the Saturday discussion (I was rehearsing and performing in concerts all weekend so I didn’t check in). Surprised at how many people will spend $300 on a bottle. I have been a stay at home mom with sporadic freelance work for 13 years, so my budget tops out at about $100. I have never even sampled most of the $200+ scents (Amouage, FM, NV) except when part of a decanting service sampler. Possibly afraid I will fall desperately in love with something. I suppose I could save up for a bottle, but I have other things I could save up for (a new piccolo, I am a flutist) and it doesn’t quite seem worth it. I enjoy my small collection of mainstream/designer and a couple of more niche perfumes – I am a Goutal fan and have a few FBs of those. So I feel like I don’t have much “perfumista cred” not having sniffed all of these amazing things you all wear so often and swoon over.
One of my (rambling) points is that those on a budget (grad students, etc.) should sample SSS if they can. If Laurie’s scents work for you, it is such a treat to be able to afford a FB. She has a really lovely range!
End of ramble!! Everyone have a wonderful fragrant day!
For a decade after college all I could do was have the eye of a magpie and know how to hop on sales and little know scents that were wonderful but would go for a song. And even now, with the very occasional splurges, I really don’t like to go over $150- but I will do $200 if it is something I know I will wear and love for a long, long time.
Aint nothing wrong with mainstream and in fact what I have found is that many scents are now more available to people at ‘mainstream’ prices if they are willing to do decants!
Twins! I adore a number of Sonoma Scent Studio fragrances and completely agree that they’re worth sampling even if someone’s not on a budget.
I need a sample of Lieu des Reves. You make it sound so lovely.
SSS is a terrific house!
I have exactly one bottle that cost $300, and I saved up for three years to get it, so I’m not sorry about that. There was about a decade when I didn’t wear any perfume at all, when we were buying the house, buying the farm, economizing wherever possible. (I have not owned a new car since 1995, either.) You do get to choose how you budget, and clearly there are seasons of life when a $300 bottle of perfume is completely out of the question. I’m glad you’re taking your pleasures as you can! I still remember what a thrill it was to be able to afford a bottle of Victoria’s Secret Pink in 2001 – and that one did me until I bought a bottle of Bath & Body Works Velvet Tuberose in 2008.
I didn’t wear perfume until I was 40. It never occcured to me as I had less than zero disposable income for most of those years. It’s nice that there are places like SSS now that price reasonably for great scents.
One of the things that I personally like about perfume is that you can find something wonderful right across the budget scale ( and I am at the scraping the barrel end ). A lot of it is about having confidence in your own taste, being open to new experiences, and letting go of ‘should’ ( as in feeling you should try everything, or the most exclusive, or expensive) before you can speak up about what you love. What draws me to perfume is that it sparks my curiosity, is intellectually stimulating, thought provoking, fun and can be uplifting…especially when you get to hear and share your experiences with knowledgeable enthusiasts who don’t judge you based on $ spent. Love it. And would love to try SSS one day.
As one of the grad students on a budget, I really appreciate the perspective in this thread. 🙂
“So I feel like I don’t have much ‘perfumista cred’ not having sniffed all of these amazing things you all wear so often and swoon over” — nah, I’m pretty sure everybody who wants to talk about perfume counts 🙂 Really though, I don’t think there’s any obligation to spend a certain amount of money or want to sample this or that. It’s true what folks are pointing out that there are more economical ways to get at pricier scents if you did want to (even Amouage is on FragranceNet, FM does single travel sprays, etc. etc.), but if you’re happy with your collection and prefer not to introduce new temptations, that is no less a legitimate way to enjoy fragrance! You smell great 🙂
I’m biased, but I say go for the new piccolo!! (I play flute, too, but piccolo is my jam! It’s like the parfum/extrait of the instrument world.)
Solidarity!!! I’m in pretty much the same boat. I feel low on “perfumista cred”. I have very few niche sniffing opportunities in my city, so I have to order samples. And with a really tight budget, I’m limited to shelling out for only scents there’s a strong chance I’ll like and want to wear a lot–even though I wish I could smell *everything*. And I know what you mean about being afraid to fall in love with the expensive stuff; I’ve already done that with 31 Rue Cambon, so Amouage et al terrify me! Grrr.
Hooray for SSS; it’s a tight-budget godsend!
I definitely am jumping right into the split concept — thanks to Pixel, Hajusuuri and SublimiSomnium I have three new decants that I would not have been able to afford otherwise.
I am certainly not criticizing the $300 bottles – besides the scent so many of those bottles are to-die-for gorgeous. If I wasn’t saving for something else, I would probably have a perfume piggy bank for just such a purpose. I suppose I need to get over my fear of sampling something expensive since I have allocated sampling funds in my monthly budget – I don’t ever expect to find a HG/signature scent anyway, since I rarely wear something more than two days in a row!
Another (sort of) flutist here, although I haven’t played for 20 years, so not sure I’d be able to do it at all these days.
My budget has changed pretty dramatically throughout my perfumista years: I remember how I treasured my tiny 3ml Chanel exclusif decants – now I own several full bottles from the line. I certainly don’t think I’m more of a perfumista now because of that and I don’t like people to be judgemental in either direction. Clearly, owning many pricy bottles is no sign of superiority. On the other hand, I hate it when people (usually outside the perfume community) feel it’s OK to tell me or others what’s the appropriate amount to spend on perfume. This goes also for beauty and fashion purchases and other things women buy and find pleasure in. As long as my child is not starving, it’s my business what my priorities are (I also spend a lot on books, food and travelling, but these seem to be less controversial).
I believe we are all in agreement that there is absolutely no need to feel bad in any way about not owning certain perfumes. Really, the only thing that counts is your enjoyment. What I can completely understand, however, is feeling a bit left out when you haven’t tried something that many people love (I have the same with many US-based lines that are difficult to get in Europe). Samples, decants, splits, generous perfume friends all can help to a certain extent. And I’m a huge campaigner for smaller sizes and travel sprays! Come on, brands!
PS SSS was one of my early favourites as well and I would also urge people – especially US-based – to try the fragrances. They do small sizes 🙂
I apologize to anyone who felt my post was judgemental – not my intention – the cost of niche perfumes is still quite shocking to me and hard to get my head around. And wanting to point out to any new readers that there are some very special affordable perfumes too.
Nonono! This was not directed at you, I was just trying to be balanced in my rant and cover both sides. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered people here who imply that people shouldn’t spend on perfumes, whatever the amount may be. Quite the opposite, in fact 😉 What I cannot stand are people who happily spend on cars or wine or watches, but then find that 150 euros for perfume is beyond extravagant. That said, many niche perfumes are very, very expensive and what I find the scariest in my case is that I sort of become desensitised to that. 200 is the new 100. I need to remind myself occasionally what it means in practice.
Ides! Nones! Kalends!
So apparently the Romans had war and planting season that depended on the phases of the moon and the counting of days before and after. Ides was the approximate mid point of the month. Kalends (from which we get calendar) corresponds to the first, and nones would be the day of the half moon, about 8 days BEFORE the Ides.
The Romans had a 8 day week (market week). The market day was not a day of rest but a day to get crap done.
SOTD: combo again- Lush Lust comboed with Bois des Iles.
OOTD: I should be in swishy, comfy robes like a Roman matron but am instead in dark jeans, a black blouse, gold necklace, pink scarf and white blazer.
I really like the sound of your perfume combination, the mixture of low and high end appeals to me a great deal – the equivalent of Chanel and Converse, or something. Think I might pair Cristalle with Breath of God and see what happens.
Sampling Bal d’Afrique today…
Not in love with it…maybe not even like. I like vetiver typically but maybe it’s vetiver w/ the citrus that is displeasing me.
I think I smell fig too but Fragrantica doesn’t agree w/ that assessment. Maybe what I am labeling fig is something else…whatever it is my nose is crinkling a bit as noses sometimes do…
Fragrantica’s tricky because it seems crowd-sourced, but if I understand the site correctly, I don’t believe users can add a note they noticed–I’m pretty sure you’re only allowed to vote yea or nay on lists of notes that seem sourced from the brands–which is often as much about the marketing team as the juice. So just because Fragrantica doesn’t mention something, I wouldn’t take that as the final word that your nose is “wrong”.
Ah ha. I didn’t realize that users can only vote for known notes. Thanks for pointing that out. I like to peruse the feedback on perfumes on Fragrantica and see what the word on the street is. Or lane, etc. Opinions often vary widely and I enjoy the spectrum. 😉
I always think I am going to like Bal D’Afrique and then it doesn’t quite add up. I can see fig because there is something milky that doesn’t seem to play well with the citrus.
Agreed.
So far the Byredo scents haven’t thrilled me. Especially at the price point. But I have a few more to sample and I’m hopeful that I will discover what the fuss is about. Or at least some of said fuss.
I have a few, but mostly bought them discounted. Rose Noir, Rose of No Man’s Land, and Mohave Ghost. The last is the most interesting. Rose Noir I love some days, other days meh. They don’t seem worth a big fuss, but they are generally easy to wear and I love the bottles. Oh and Pulp. I only have a decant, but it is something. Keep us poster on what you like and what you don’t!
Oops. Posted. No need for a poster!
Wearing Alaia today which was a gift from a wonderful friend. I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews about this scent, but I am really enjoying it today. It’s much nicer than I expected. Plus, the bottle is GORGEOUS! Not that the bottle is supposed to matter! 🙂
That one that didn’t work for me. I would buy it just for the bottle 😉
🙂 I wouldn’t have pursued Alaia but I actually do really like it. It’ll be a nice addition for the spring and summer months.
Very nice !!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
I needed spine strengthening today so I went to old reliable No.19. I have worn this so often (although not always for its magical properties) that the visible dent in my bottle is worrisome considering I got my bottle a mere 55 weeks ago! It is Limited Edition. I think I just convinced myself that I need a back-up.
I hope No. 19s magical powers get you through the day.
Thanks, it did but I have a meeting late tonight and an early day tomorrow so yay, I will be working from home!
Nice
Noticed the Chanel site has been calling it limited edition for a seemingly unlimited amount of time!
Ha! True! It was mals’ and MarjorieRose’s comments about the LE that spurred me to buy it ASAP. I wonder if it is harvest-dependent so that the next batch of No.19 may be slightly different. Whatever the case is, I love this edition and never want to be without any on hand.
Another grant deadline day. What kind of perfume will bring focus and attention? I’m going to dab on a bit of some lovely incense sample and see if anyone’s inspired 😉
31 Rue Cambon always helps me to focus. Good luck with your deadline.
Seville al’Aube, a superb perfume…keeps me cheerful and on-task…
i love orange blossom
🙂
Love this one and orange blossom????
I was hoping to wear Mimosa and Cardamom, but have been thwarted by overwhelming lack of organization. I “discovered” a decant of Jacques Zolty Van-ile in the process of half-heartedly shuffling through STC decant boxes, so that’s what I’m wearing.
Best Vanilla ever. Move over Tiholta!!
It really is sooo good!
Reached for one of my Frederic Malle travelsprays, Vetiver Extraordinaire today. Nice enough, gave me a kind of spring-y feel. Sharp, green, inky.. not much light here.
Maybe a bit CDG2 later will do the trick.
I’m wearing Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan – my travel spray from the splitmeet just arrived (thanks, Hajusuuri!). It’s helping me feel somewhat awake today.
On the house hunting front, we put in an offer this morning. Fingers crossed that this one works out!
Good Luck DottieNC! I hope you have the winning bid.
You smell wonderful, and good luck on the house!!
Good luck with the house! Such an exciting but stressful process…at least you’ve got a lovely scent to help carry you through it.
It’s time for you to have good luck with a house bid!
Good luck!
Good luck on your potential new home!
Trying something new today – Sebastiane Espresso. Hmm,, it is literally like I have poured espresso all over myself and than put some grinded beans in my pockets.
I’m wearing Vetiver Tonka today, but it’s almost gone now. The A/C in our office building is on the fritz, so I think the heat in the office zapped it. It’s also zapping my will to do much of anything, so I think I’m going to go work from home (my boss is on vacation so I’m in the office alone anyway). Home will have the distractions of kitties that will want attention, but at least I won’t be sweating.
Ostara today, fortunately it works wonderfully on my skin.
Mid afternoon and I’m just now getting here! 🙂 Guess I’m being productive in other areas for a change……
SOTD: Prada Candy.
All for now….gotta keep moving! 🙂
SOTD is L’eau de Hiver. Finishing up this sample today. Its a pretty, easy to wear scent. I like it a lot, but probably not FB worthy for me.
Mitsouko today. There were traces of yesterday’s lingering, and it’s just too good to wash off, so I gave ‘er a top-up.
I do that too sometimes, when yesterday’s fragrance still appeals to me…
I mean, why fight something that’s workin’ just fine!?
Precisely! It wouldn’t linger if it didn’t have just a little more enchantment to offer!
Overslept today (curse you, time-shifting), but that’s ok, I’m working from home. It’s finally sunny out after 2 weeks of rain, yay! Will go for a walk later.
It’s a sampling day, since I’m at home. Testing Coolife Le Troisieme (very nice citrus, jasmine, orange blossom, vetiver… but it seems mighty familiar, and rather pricey…) and Le Quatrieme (boozy amber which developed an unfortunate plasticky note in the dry down). Neither of them has lasted more than a few hours, so now I get to decide what to test next.
Awaiting delivery of several deeply-discounted Guerlains today: Chant d’Aromes, Imperiale, and Eau de Guerlain. Donatella smiles in approval.
I have discovered I love Chant d’Aromes…where did you get it on discount?
Good ol’ Fragrancenet, got it on one of their 30% off sales.
I am wearing Diptique Essences Insensees Mimosa today. .Just wanted something that feels like spring
Ooh, that one is gorgeous!
Just hit Babalu in Miami beach and am wearing a mix of Profumum Rosa Mundae and Nanban. They do no belong together but both are great. I wish they came in smaller bottles. Instead I bought 50 ml of Olfactive Studio ombré indigo and my person got two candles – Costes Orange and CDG Avignon. I am so glad I’ve gotten him in on the game. And the SA was lovely and gave me many samples! Highly recommend if you are in or near Miami beach.
Yes. The Nanban bottle is too big. Bought it anyway… Hopefully they’ll add it to the travel set at some point. If you like several fragrances from the line, the sets are relatively reasonably priced.
I feel pretty sure I’ll spring for the big bottle before they get to that. I also like it’s chubby shape, although the 50ml are even cuter.
I’m wearing 1804 George Sand today, from Parfums d’Empire’s incredibly well-priced sampler. All of the line in 2ml atomizers for $19. George is a fruity floral. I’m not much for fruit, but when I wear it, it needs to be FRUIT. Bombay Bling and Badgeley Mischka both meet that requirement, so a bottle of 1804 probably isn’t in my future.
Goodness, I’ve been trying to find my sample of 1804 for two days now. Maybe I should give up and get the sampler. 🙂
Oh good, it’s such a relief to know someone else thinks this way! 😉
Do you like most of the sampler? I’m a sucker for those full range sample sets!
This is the first one I’ve tried, but I’ll keep mentioning them here when one is my SOTD.
Prompted by Angela’s recent post about the JM Orris & Sandalwood, my SOTD is YR Iris Noir. Unlike many NSTers, I’m not a big fan of iris and rarely seek it out, my Iris Noir was a freebee with an order. When I’m in the mood, I like to layer it with BBW’s Black Amethyst bath products; the resultant ‘purple patchouli’ harmony is quite pleasant, and I’m enjoying it today.
Later on, I’ll have to pull out my Misia sample. I remember liking it but can’t remember if the iris note was as strong to me as it was to some of you. I find our individual perceptions of the same fragrance absolutely intriguing!
Haven’t posted much recently, but I have still been reading the scent of the day posts – especially when I don’t know what to wear I look to see what everyone else is wearing to get ideas 😉
I’ve been into orange blossom in a big way – I recently bought the Orange Blossom and Petigrain body butter from Le Couvent des Minimes and have been experimenting with different perfumes layered over it. Today it is Bottega Veneta Knot – so pretty! This might be THE spring perfume for me this year.
I was tempted by those body butters the other day but there were no testers and I don’t use a huge amount of scented lotion anyway so I talked myself out of it. Now, if they hadn’t been out of all the colognes I would have suckered.
Would like to thank you all for the kind (and sometimes funny, too) words of support yesterday. It meant the world. I can´t tell you how it went because people don’t usually say that your speach was poorly constructed and total waste of time. Well, sometimes they do, so it was not that bad, I guess.
SOTD is vintage Armani. Good stuff, maybe the best ‘power scent’ I know. It really smells like you are the boss, going to Milan in a few hours and taking no prisioners, lol.
Had a two-hour trip on the DC Metro yesterday afternoon. I forgot to check status before getting on Orange Line, which happened to be single-tracking during rush hour, due to an electrical fire in one station that morning. Hope no other area perfumistas were affected by that!
Nonetheless, I was wearing Amouage, so I still felt Beloved as I passed the time reading. Possibly never before as thankful for my SOTD.
yikes, just saw on WaPo that they’re shutting down the entire Metro system tonight. Glad your commute wasn’t any worse, and yeah it’s a a lovely thing to be wearing a proper SOTD when emergencies arise!
Not just tonight, but all day Wednesday! I really hope Metro figures out how to get the word out effectively before people turn up at the stations tomorrow morning. Ugh, I don’t miss Metro one bit.
Just purchased my 3rd (!) backup bottle of Haie Fleurie. I really shouldn’t be allowed on ebay sometimes
SOTD is Nature’s One Gardenia which I kind of forgot I had until I unpacked it. It’s pretty so I’m kind of surprised I’d forgotten about it
Ebay is so dangerous like that! But sometimes it pays to take a walk on the wild side. Congrats on your backup 🙂
Today have gone totally rogue and am wearing Angel – 2 or 3 spritzes from a sample vial. Mmmmmm smelling goooood!
Will be another 4-6 months before I wear this one again (a little goes a long way) and pleased how pleasantly this scent matches my day so far.
I have fond memories of Angel, a good friend back in 2000 used to wear it (fairly heavily, too) and it catapults me back to being young and carefree, working at a popular vintage clothing store in my city and meeting all sorts of fascinating new people and experimenting with fabulous fashions. Not to mention inheriting a fake ID and experiencing nightlife and Britpop dance scenes! So yeah, Angel takes me back 🙂
Angel is great for those who can rock it.
And woe to those who get gassed by her presence. .. 😉
An office victory! I am wearing a teensy spritz of Guerlain Encens Mythique d’Orient, the original perfume culprit causing distress in an office-mate for being too enthusiastically applied. Today: not a peep – and another colleague said she liked it! I still have a few of the heavy hitters to cautiously try, but it looks like the home stretch! I think I’ll be able to wear (a little bit of) everything.
It’s really hard for me to imagine Encens Mythique being offensive under any conditions. Good that you had a peaceful wearing today, though, and you smell lovely!
