It's Almost-Friday, and it's World Wildlife Day, and happy birthday to Ira Glass! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, but I am tired and it was the wrong choice and I might just wash it off. Tea at the moment: third cup of Satrupa Estate Assam, organic, from Upton.
Reminder: On 3/4, wear a fragrance from Estée Lauder or Aramis, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
A sample of Penhaligons Quercus. You’d think with a name like that (it means “oak” in Latin) it would be supremely woody, but it’s really a soapy, dry-cleanerish bright white floral for men. I don’t really get it.
Yeah. I think of that one as very Penhaligon’s.
This is a historic day: I’ve experienced a turned perfume for the first time. I wanted to wear Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay – for the Lauder connection, but also because I needed something nice and easy. Unfortunately, it smelled all bitter and wrong. Not a huge tragedy in practical terms, as I only had a few drops left in the bottle, but sad nevertheless.
So I’m wearing Mimosa & Cardamom instead. But I really need a new bottle of B&B, as it’s such a lovely scent and fills a unique niche in my collection.
Wow, that’s not even that old! But welcome to the club, LOL…I’ve lost lots of bottles.
Yes, I feel like a true perfumista now 🙂
I’m also careless in my perfume storing habits, so I’m sure I have contributed to this turn of events (pun originally not intended, but I’m finding it pretty good now and letting it stand.)
Ha!
It’s always kind of a shock when a scent turns, isn’t it? Sometimes you get a warning — it’s turned cloudy, or the colour’s darkened obviously — and sometimes it just smells wrong, and that’s when you know it’s over and you have to say goodbye.
I knew in theory that it would happen at some point, especially considering my bad habits, but was still surprised. Mostly because it wasn’t that old.
Sad. While it wasn’t that old, it was that empty. A high air to perfume ratio is likely what did it.
Good point. Didn’t really think of that, but sounds logical.
A shame. So far I’ve only lost 2 bottles, one of which was substituted by Hermès.
I was of course instantly reminded of the famous ‘This is a historic moment’ quote from Clockwise.
I must admit I haven’t seen this one. I have a low tolerance for embarrassment – I can do Monty Python, but Fawlty Towers has always been very difficult for me (very funny, but hard to bear). Clockwise looks like it could be very embarrassing, too 🙂
It is, nearly as bad as FT, which I adore, actually. Not as absurd and off the wall as MP but to me equally wonderful. But if embarrassment makes you feel uncomfortable it’s a much better idea to not watch it.
Oh such a shame but on the upside you smell lovely and very well suited to spring!
Thank you! I do like M&C a lot and received a compliment from colleagues, too.
Oh no, what a shame, at least it was almost empty, and u got lots of pleasure from B&B. Such a lovely scent, I have L’ombre dans l’eau, which is quite similar I think, and have just acquired a candle of B&B.This sad phenomenon hasn’t happened to me yet..
Yes, LODLE (is this a thing?) was the only scent I could think of as similar, too. But they are still quite distinct and B&B is easier to wear. I love the candle, too!
3 March 2013: not to be forgotten 😉 !
How long did you have it? Fortunately I haven’t had this kind of historic event yet, and I look after my bottles quite well. Always nice to have a reason to do some perfume shopping though, and if you are at the Jo Malone shop/counter you can give the herbal collection a try, and the orris & sandalwood. Just saying.
2016!
How is the herb collection? Which one would you recommend? I haven’t had the opportunity to check them out yet. I think it was Ari that mentioned in her post that they don’t rally last a long time.
Love at first sniff (and now own):
Sorrel & Lemon Tbyme
Carrot Blossom & Fennel
I’m planning to go this weekend and see if the herb collection has arrived. Very curious.
I’ve had a few go bad this year, including one sealed unopened Kilian refill bottle that was stored in the fridge. Given how much perfume I have, I just shrug and go on. I can’t wear it all anyway.
Huh, strange about the Kilian. I’m not too worried about perfumes turning either. Most of the stuff I own is modern anyway, so if I really miss it, I can buy it again. I might feel different if I was a vintage fan or had really precious old bottles.
I have a lot of vintage and I actually feel safer about it, especially if I bought it from a bathroom counter at an estate sale or a sunny window in an antique shop. I always think, “well, if it didn’t go bad yet it’s not going to now!”
Perfumista milestones:
–the first time you give in and buy two bottles of something (so you don’t run out)
–the first time you refer to your “collection” or “wardrobe” to someone who probably JUST WON’T GET IT.
–the first time you stalk a fragrance half-way around the world
🙂
Marjorie Rose –
Check,
Check
And CHECK!
Congratulations, Perfumista!
The first time someone mentions fragrance casually, and you accidentally reply with a disconcerting amount of information (sorry, second-date dude who wanted to tell me about “a guy in Brooklyn with a line called I Hate Perfume.”)
Ha! Poor fella. (Thankfully, my Mr. Spicebomb just took the whole fragrance thing in stride and as support for his larger than average baseball card/ memorabilia collection.)
I’m still such a noob!
Things to look forward to!
Me too! Noob….but getting in deeper and deeper every week….LOL 🙂
Good ones! I would add the first blind buy, although not everyone will go there.
What blind buy? They’re really just large samples!
Your attitude should be taught in schools.
Check, check, darn just a few miles more last vacation… 😉 Perhaps for my next vacation?
We should compile a Perfumista checklist!
Sounds like a good lazy Saturday poll!
(HEY ROBIN, NOTE IDEA ABOVE. 😀 )
I did read through this whole thread but still don’t get what the poll question would be — do tell me and I’ll add it to the list! (and sorry for being dense)
The first time you ask a family member or friend to give back a perfume you gave them for a birthday/ Christmas present- because they haven’t worn it and you only bought it because you secretly wanted it for yourself anyway. Quietly stealing it back or offering to trade is another option.
Um, guilty! “Well, if you’re not using it…”
I’ve only had one fragrance turn that surprised me, and very recently. I went to wear my Chanel No 5 Sensual Elixir the other day and realized the top notes are a tad burnt. Otherwise its OK, but that has yet to happen to me. However, I do have a bunch of precious decants evaporate from their small bottles, and that has made me very sad. RIP Grossmith’s Shem el Nessim. Also I’ve come to realize that my TM Alien Essence Absolue bottle (that is refillable) is also evaporating, so I’ve had to wrap it up. Evaporation is also a sad perfumista badge.
Decants are the worst.
Yep.
This is very true. I think everything I’ve bought from The Perfumed Court is gone by now. This is one reason I prefer buying a full bottle, even if I know I’m not going to use it up.
That’s a shame, but at least you got to use up most of the bottle first before it went.
I’ve not experienced this, but dreading when it might happen.
Yes, I’m not too devastated. And it makes me glad to have moved most of my bottles to the drawers recently.
I love B&B. It is a beautiful, fruity scent. I actually have never had a bottle of perfume go bad on me. But then again, I am so heavy-handed and spray to my hearts content, I go through bottles a lot quicker than most (especially my Jo Malones).
It’s probably still my favourite JM, although Mimosa & Cardamom is putting up a good fight.
Thank goodness it wasn’t a FB. Since it was a milestone/first for you, maybe you could give the bottle a little ‘funeral’? ????
We’ll meet at the recycling bin at high noon…… 🙂
????
Hahahaaa!
????
I haven’t had a FB turn on me yet ( I store them in their boxes in a dark closet), but a couple of samples have spoiled- both from MDCI now that I think about it.
The Enlevement de Serail was quite old (and DC, sigh), but yesterday I sprayed on my quite new sample of Peche Cardinal and suddenly it smelled completely rancid! It makes me a bit hesitant to go for a FB. Does anyone know if PC has a tendency to turn easily?
It seems I’ve been planning to move my collection to a dedicated drawer forever. Your post has spurned me to get it done this weekend (at the latest). In the meantime, I’m getting out the parafilm!
I’m wearing Divine’s L’Ame Sœur, which is lovely, and just a tad wistful.
Tea is a wonderful, and newly arrived, China Wuliang Black Mountain, from Teegeschwendner.
I haven’t really seen anyone talking about Divine here until now! Are you in France?
I’m in love with l’Etre Aimé, l’Inspiratrice, et Spirituelle. I plan on buying some before I leave France 🙂 I’d better save up!
No, although I am in Europe. There are a few Divine fans on this blog and others, but it’s definitely not one of the most mentioned houses.
My favourites are the original Divine and L’homme de cœur.
I am dying to try the original – I think the notes are right up my alley
I love Divine! It’s perfect for our winters here n Auckland, when the southerly blows straight up from Antarctuca (it probably doesn’t, but it feels like it) and the rain comes diwn in solid sheets. Duvine us ine if my “golden” perfumes, shedding drifting rays of light on dull grey days.
I wore L’Ame Soeur yesterday as my scent of the day. You do smell so lovely. L’Ame is the only one I have tried. Sounds like there are others worth sampling.
Believe me, I noticed!
L’Inspiritrice is in my top 10 of all time. I haven’t sniffed Spirituelle yet. Divine is a high quality house.
Divine Spirituelle is beautiful. I have a small sample of it that I use sparingly.
Those 2 are my favorites – L’Inspiritrice and Spirituelle.
I have and love 4 Divine scents: the original Divine, l’Infante, l’Ame Soeur and Spirituelle (uh and the men.s one Homme de Coeur). I don’t wear them often enough – they are really well done.
Ok, I’m going to be a big show off and reveal how many Divines I own. Divine par Divine both in EDP and in extrait (L’Eternel Féminin), L’Inspiratrice, L’Infante, L’Etre Aimé femme, L’Ame Sœur (extrait), L’Homme de Cœur, L’Homme Sage. I try to keep them in business!
What a collection!
Do they know by a first name basis?
Is there one in the collection that you reach for the most?
L’Ame Seour is lovely. I’ve had a very small vial of that for years now and I remember loving it, but then putting it away in my forever horde pile.
I have a horde pile too..when is the next swap meet..I will have a that pile as a freebie
Clearly my time is coming soon because I’ve never experienced a scent turning bad! Oh Nooooes, I don’t want this to happen with my stash of back-ups 🙁
Anyway, HBD to Ira!
I’m in EL White Linen today. This is soooooo nostalgic for me.
Scent twins–I am wearing EL White Linen, too. I am wearing a bit of solid parfum from a compact refill.
Started out in OJ Sampaquita which I have topped up with tester spritzes of Jo Malone Orris and Sandalwood on one hand and Tuberose Angelica on the other. I quite like both but the Tuberose has more lasting power.
I also realise my comment yesterday might have got somewhat lost, but Harrods seem to be going to have Fleur de Chine on an ongoing basis for a while at least, so it remains available to that extent.
That’s good news.
I don’t own any EL perfumes so I won’t be participating in this Friday’s scent of the day community project.
Woke up this morning and was craving Dia by Amouage and a cup of French Breakfast tea.
Also Robin I love the photo today.
Elephants are so majestic.
They did great posters for WWD this year! You can see more here:
http://www.wildlifeday.org/content/outreach-material
Dia is gorgeous! Very elegant choice for morning tea.
You smell great. It’s nice waking up with a specific scent craving and then having it be perfect.
Box of Eels from my splitmeet decant. Lovely lovely–but my decant is vanishing pretty fast! Anyone have experience with the parfum? Worth it to get instead of the EdT?
I think the perfume is sweeter then the EdT but I haven’t smelled it in awhile. Maybe someone else can chime in.
I have a decant of the EdT and find it very lovely but I don’t reach for it as much as I thought I would. From the Les Exclusifs collection I love 31 RC, Coromandel, 22, and the Cologne in the summer. I did use up a whole bottle of Bel Respiro though.
Wow…definitely had to Google that creepy-sounding perfume.
Lol–I did too the first time someone on NST referred to “Box of Eels” instead of Bois de Iles!
That’s hilarious. I have been thinking there’s a new creepy fragrance called Box of Eels for a bit now. Thanks for clearing this up! ((feeling a bit slow to catch on))
Another milestone: the day I deduced that you all were referring to Bois des Iles and not an actual perfume called Box of Eels. I was pretty proud of myself that day.
The parfum is the way to go with BdI. I have both the parfum and edt and IMO the parfum is far, far better.
The EDT has a lot more aldehydes and is lighter and doesn’t last as long (though pretty reasonable lasting power if you spray a little more heavily). The parfum is sweeter, smoother, heavier on the spices, and lasts really well. You really only need a few drops/dabs. I think it’s totally worth it. Hope that helps.
I’ve noticed that my BdI has very low sillage and wears pretty close. I can see using it up as fast as an edp if you were to want more oomph. The edt of BdI is also pretty low-wattage. I can put on a few sprays of that if I choose. Chanel is watering down the drinks?
All the Exclusifs I’ve sampled recently seem waner than my older EdTs (No. 5, Sycomore, Bois de Iles). But I always wonder if that’s just because my older samples / decants have evaporated a bit and increased the concentration of what remains. Fortunately they still smell lovely, I just have to spray more.
I have both the extrait and the edt and the lasting power of the extrait is not superior to the edt on me. I get the most when I layer both. The extrait is more close to the skin and not much sillage but it is deeper as a scent.
I will say the same – I also get more out of the whole BdI experience if I layer the extrait and edt.
Enablers!
😉 Got my pin today!
I second that Ann. I do that as well or It disappears pretty quickly on me. So gorgeous while it lasts though.
Estee Lauder Knowing. Old-school dark mossy stuff.
Scent twins! One my favorite ELs, and its working well on this cold and blustery day (it may snow tonight).
Same here! Beautiful.
I wish I still had my bottle of Knowing from the 90s. That would be my first choice for EL.
Oh, every time I hear or see something about Knowing, it makes me think of my godmother. She just recently past away. 🙁
This was my mom’s sister. Every year for Christmas, my mom would buy her the gift set of Knowing. My whole family are a bunch of “scent nerds”. Oh how scents bring memories to the mind.
It’s what I’m wearing tomorrow. Absolutely one of the greatest chypres of all time: so dark and sepulchral, so wonderful on a man (i.e. me).
I bet it is!!
Onde Sensuelle de L’Artisan Parfumeur for me on this day of disasters (I broke some expensive glassware today in lab, containing basically all the air-sensitive product I’ve spent all this week synthesizing, soon after having flooded the lab microwave with my overflowing lunch and having spilled all my tea leaves on the office floor). I hope Ira Glass’s birthday is going better for him than it is for me. Your tea sounds especially appealing right now, Robin, now that I’ve got no more of my own.
However, I have got, for the second time in two days, a question unrelated to the post (a question instead related to my question from yesterday that was so wonderfully answered by you all): I’m going to Berlin for a week soon, so are there any perfume shops I should visit while there? I haven’t been to Berlin since getting interested in perfume, and would love to explore the city’s olfactory scene this time.
Victoria had a post on BdJ and some folks were talking about shops in Germany if you want to take a read through the feed
http://boisdejasmin.com/2012/11/perfume-shopping-where-do-you-buy-your-fragrances.html
Pretty sure you would want to go to the KaDeWe department store. It’s the biggest one on the continent and I bet their fragrance department is fabulous. I am going to be in Frankfurt in June (sadly, no chance of getting to Berlin) and got advised a week or two ago to go to Albrect Parfumerie. Their website looks like they have a lot of good niche things, including some perfumes made in Germany (looks like some are especially for their shop). They might have more than one location in the country.
You know, I was in KaDeWe last year and I was mostly underwhelmed by the fragrance department. It’s big, but it’s not breathtaking. There was a bunch of stuff you don’t see much if ever in North America (Otto Kern, Etienne Aigner) and I was happy to get some of the 4711 Acqua Colonias, but overall it wasn’t as amazing as, say, Harrods.
Apparently Quartier 206 (at 71 Friedrichstrasse) is very good: I didn’t get there last time but I’m off to Berlin again in seven weeks so I’ll be checking that out. AND it’s next door to Galeries Lafayette: the one in Paris is pretty great, so I have to assume the Berlin branch is also.
The KaDeWe is SPECTACULAR for perfume!!! They have most of the things I’ve read about here, and a bunch of lines I’ve never heard of! I’m currently light-headed from having sniffed so many marvelous scents. (This is going to make paying attention at the conference…easier, right?)
It’s been years since I’ve been to Cologne and traveled around Germany. But I always remember there were fun “European” products and fragrances in the DM- Drogerie Markt. Lots to touch and sniff. I don’t know how they are anymore. I can’t say about what’s in Berlin or any high end shops. But I’d try and find some place that had the Parfums Kunsthistorie fragrances!!!
There is a whole site dedicated to perfume shopping around the world, it is regularly updated. your-perfume-guide.blogspot.nl
Have fun! And…buy some Chanel 😉
On Basenotes in the Local Shopping Guides forum under Germany there’s a list of currently open perfume shops in Berlin. Before I go on a trip I always check that forum for shopping.
Ugh, sorry about your morning!
Thanks, everyone! I love asking questions here 🙂 Your answers are all incredibly helpful!
I second KaDeWe, not only for the perfumes but also for the food court on the 7th floor (I think).
Hope this morning buys you a long streak of uneventfulness! 🙂
Muller! It just looks like a supermarket chain /drug store/chemist/dept. store but they have lots of (mostly mainstream) perfume on the shelves (or they used to ) and lots of German products – like Kneipp lotions and oils as well as most beauty brands. If you’re feeling language-shy and just want to browse and test, and be ignored it’s a good place to go.
Wearing EL Modern Muse Chic today. It’s my least favorite in the Modern Muse collection, so I’m wearing to try and decide why…..
I think it’s the oud. Don’t think I’m a fan of oud??? Hmmmm….. 🙂
Will wear my fave EL tomorrow!
I’m not a fan of oud either unless it’s the most minuscule amount.
Lol! I am wearing Modern Muse Chic tomorrow. I actually scored a bottle of this in the freebie meet. I like it. It has a little “oomph” compared to the original. So, I guess that makes me a fan of oud?
As the day wears on, I can’t say that I “dislike” it so much….It has settled down pretty nicely! Just don’t like that strong “ouddy” opening. Is “ouddy” a word? LOL! 🙂
Here it is. 🙂
SOTD is Pleasures Bloom. I wish it could be Youth Dew, which is one of my faves, but I’ve worn it once this year.
I wish I could wear Pleasures Delight this week but can’t find my sample, which is so old it’s probably gone off anyway.
Ephelents! I love me some aminal pachyderms!
SOTD is EL Bronze Goddess in the form of the whipped body cream which is fantastically scented and moisturizing. Plus it’s supposed to top 80F today. Winter, you left me too soon????
Happy Almost Friday Day to all!
I love “ephelents”. 🙂 I once babysat a little girl who called them “eppytints”.
Thankfully she included the “n”!
Might give in and buy that body cream this year. I love BG, but it doesn’t last long enough. Maybe some layering is in order?. . .
The body cream is VERY fragranced and not at all shy, so I really don’t even layer with the perfume. A little goes a long way so I think it’s a good value. My vat is just about 1.5-2 years old, I have 1/2 left, and it is exactly the same consistency as when I opened it. No breakdown of scent or of the cream itself, such as separation, etc.
That’s good to know. I can’t wait to break into mine when the weather changes this year! Just the thought of it makes me happy.
Great info–thanks!
I’ve had good luck with my perfumes, but my BG body cream turned after about a year. However, I didn’t even hesitate about repurchasing it, I’m just going to make sure to use it up this time!
Marjorie Rose, I promise you, the body cream lasts ALL DAY! It is some great stuff. You almost don’t even need the perfume with it. Get some….you won’t regret it. 🙂
I haven’t tried the BG but the moisturizing question goes such a long way for me with otherwise short-lived fragrances, I think it’s def worth a shot.
I need some 80 degrees nap in the sun weather.
I’ll do my best to direct it your way! ????
🙂
Scent Twins! BG is good stuff!
Parfum de Therèse, from an old sample, I wasn’t that impressed the first time I tried it, and like it now, but don’t love it. It stays very close to the skin, at first I even thought I might be anosmic to most of its components, but the plum finally came through and has a good staying power. I think I’ll retry it against the plummy By Kilian (liasons dangereures)
I didn’t get the plum either, when I tested this one out of my toybox. To be fair, though, I tried it in the evening, so maybe it shows up further in the drydown? Mostly, that chewy green opening reminded me of No. 19.
Liasons Dangereuses makes my mouth water when I wear it. I love it. I’ve never got plum from PdT either – it smells more to me like a regular jasmine-centric “green” similar to the Parfums de Nicolai Temps d’une Fete, vintage Cristalle, etc.
Thérèse does better when sprayed a wee bit more liberally. I get mostly melon and leather, in a good way.
I think you smell great. Love PdT!
I’m wearing Osmanthe Yunnan today. I recently got back from a two-week trip to California (LA and the Bay Area) and, while I was for the most part pleased with what I brought, I missed florals. (Especially after I spilled all of my sample of Wit the first time I wore it.)
In related perfume news from that trip: I took my sister to Scentbar and I may have turned her into a perfumista. Bwahaha! We both loved the place; the salespeople were terrific and we spent a good hour or so sniffing to our hearts’ content. She was particularly smitten with Byredo, and brought home samples of Inflorescence and V&A’s California Reverie. I got Ninfeo Mio (which may be FB-worthy) and Salome (which I need to spend more time with).
Along the lines of Kanuka’s scent mapping, I helped my uncle with his beehives, and the combination of burning pine needles in the smoker, honey, and the greenery all around was fantastic. And San Francisco did smell a little like Wit.
Sounds like a wonderful trip! I had the same response to Ninfeo Mio and ordered a FB even before my sample was used up.
It was indeed!
Question about AG EDTs for women vs men: Are the formulae different, or do they just put the same perfume into two different kinds of bottles?
Same perfumes, different bottles.
That sounds like a wonderful experience!
I highly recommend it.
What a great sister bonding experience!
Yes, and now I have more gifting ideas for her.
I’d love to visit Scentbar one day. Great reason to plan a trip to the west coast if I do say so myself!
Ninfeo Mio is lovely. I got a 15ml mini off of ebay years ago and still have some left. Might start there 😉
Ooh, good tip! Not that I need more encouragement to search for things on ebay. 🙂
Mr. Spicebomb and I are driving down the Oregon Coast towards the Bay Area for Spring Break. I’ve been meaning to see if Scentbar is close enough to our route to be simple to suggest. . .
Forgive me if this is a dumb Q but…you mean Bay Area like San Francisco right? Alas Scentbar’s down in LA, so another 400 miles.
Yes, Scentbar is in LA, and the Bay Area is San Francisco. I’m kicking myself for not stopping by Tigerlily when I was in SF; somehow it escaped my brain that I should go there.
Just wanted to be sure Marjorie Rose didn’t mean she was driving all the way down to, say, the San Diego Bay, in which case Scent Bar would be a lot more accessible!
But yes Tigerlily’s a great idea for SF Bay Area!
Oh drat. Somehow, I had it in my head that she was further north than that! Well then, nevermind!
You can go to Barneys in the Bay Area.
Sounds like an awesome trip! And Ninfeo Mio is full bottle worthy!!!
Just found some good deals…
That sounds like the perfect trip. Now i have perfume, sister and beehive envy. I love that low, insistent hum surrounding hives, too.
I watched a beekeeper excavate a wasp’s nest on Facebook today. Not exactly a low, insistent hum, but it was fascinating even if it made me twitchy. I never saw so many bees up so close! And I have no idea how wasps can construct a perfectly formed hive underground.
I loved that sound as well. I don’t think I’d want my own hives, but visiting was fascinating. I might need to find some back here in Boston to visit.
Amouge Journey, which I tried, loved and bought in travel size after reading Angela’s review here.
Journey is so lovely, it’s on my list for next year.
I’m really looking forward to getting out my small decant when spring is truly here!
It is gorgeous. Where are you Mayfly? If you are in Europe I am happy to send you some if your decant runs out, so you have 2016 covered!
That’s so kind of u!- I’m in the UK, I wonder if I have anything u might like in return?
My email address is rosiemay79@gmail.com
Do u like Epic?, let me know what sort of perfumes u like, and I’ll have a think.
Forgot to say, thank u!
I own a bottle..sassy and classy
That bottle is gorgeous too. If it is still love after I finish the travelspray I will buy.
Indeed, the bottle is gorgeous. I have one as well. It’s one of my favorites.
SOTD – my new arrival of lonesome rider. I resisted opening it last night. Wanted to put on after shower this morning and it did not disappoint. Smoky, ashy, woody, but not bitter or any wonky notes thus far, it does remind me a bit of Oud Palao, less some of the sweetness.
I loves it????
Did you do a blind buy purchase? Waiting for my decant to arrive and really looking forward to it…
Deva, I did a blind buy. I’m sure I committed to never doing that again after Nanban…but I loved PHI rose de Kandahar so much I felt like it would be okay.
Fortunately it does not smell like Oud Palao on me, which I dislike. I get 15 minutes of smoke and then an iris leather with a bit of either incense or aldehydes or both.
Excited to get a split of this shortly! Delighted to add this to my leather scents collection.
So glad you love it!
I am still waiting for my bottle.
Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre is my SOTD. I took a shower this morning and used some lavender soap. MP seemed like the perfect complement after that. I love how this fragrance manages to be aromatic, spicy and soft at the same time.
Hi Barqs, That does sound lovely.
SOTD is Fille En Aiguilles, really calming & comforting for a stressful morning. My toddler had tantrums this morning, and my little girl didn’t want to go to pre school and cried for half an hour.
A cup of tea and a read of Kevin’s new review of Monsieur, along with FEA has really helped me feel more cheerful and together.
My husband was sprayed liberally in Les Sentaur’s with Monsieur, and really liked it, I am really tempted to get it for his birthday in May, but he thinks he has enough perfume..I’m not convinced!
I have a toddler and a newborn so I feel for you. It can suck the life out of you. The other day I told a girlfriend of mine that while my husband (I do love him) is sleeping at night I want to trade him in for a ladies maid. HA! I clearly watch too much Dowton Abbey.
The newborn is still in his up all night sleep all day routine. So I am enjoying tea while he is snoozing and then I will snooze too. My toddler is occupied by her grandmother at the moment. You do smell lovely and I am sending you some calming thoughts. Tea helps!
Thanks for your’re kind thoughts, and making me giggle! – a lady’s maid doesn’t sound like a half bad idea (especially if she’s as nice and loyal as Anna!).. Very tempting to swap husband out, for extra help, heeheehee
Glad u are sleeping when baby sleeps, it’s the only way to stay sane in my experience!
Ah but no, you need Tom Barrow who at least helps takes care of the little ones!
Good thinking!
Since he’s already lying down, perhaps you could rent him out by the hour. 🙂
The day your kid goes to kindergarten (and we are blessed with full day up here) is one of the greatest days of your life. Having small children puts a whole lot of everything that you ever thought made you miserable in the past into huge perspective. Kids are the greatest joy and the greatest misery!!! Good luck!
Yes!, I only have one morning when they are at pre school together, and boy do I treasure that morning!
My little girl starts school in September, and will be the oldest in her year, as she’s a September baby, so she (and me!) are really ready for it.
I’m wearing a mix of Cartier’s L`Heure Fougueuse in my hair and April Aromatics Liquid Dreams elsewhere. It’s a good light and uplifting mix to go with a sprained ankle.
Thanks for the Wildlife Day reminder. I hope more people will realize that there is a dead elephant behind every piece of ivory.
I’m off to a small yoga retreat with a group that I’ve gotten to know well over a number of years. It’s a very balancing time where judgement is suspended. I read yesterday’s posts late last night which were so timely and reflected my experience.
I am bringing DSH Prana, which I will just dab on for myself.
Not wanting to miss the project, while out yesterday I stopped at Macy’s and sprayed White Linen, Sensuous, Aliage and asked if there were a tester for Azuree. They had the bottles, but not the tester and the SA looked so hopeful that I would just buy the bottle.
As you might expect, I had sensory overload, but at least did the homework!
Happy Friday tomorrow!
I really like Aliage, but the old Estee better. There is a lady that I work with who wears Azuree as her scent, and she really puts it on. Anytime she comes to the library there is just this awesome sillage. I always tell her how good she smells!
Hope the retreat is lovely, it sure sounds it!
Epic today. Had morning meetings and my train was late, so I’m trying to channel the Epic to prevent feeling frazzled. Also having roommate troubles this morning….uuuugh.
House cousin. I am in Dia
Oh no! Hope your roommates sort it out.
I have roommate troubles everyday – they are just my toddler and husband. ???? ha!
Haha! Hey coz.
My roommate (just one) is currently nursing a broken heart, which is unfortunately a little like living with a toddler. I have of course done a lot of listening, but two months in, he is angry with anyone who tries help or to cheer/distract him from his commitment to his unhappiness, even for a little while. I’ve been through this too, and understand feeling devastated, but his reaction to me is so hostile and sometimes immature (passive aggressive commentary on Twitter? Apparently this is something that 34 year old men do) that I really just want to disengage for my own sake. Sigh. I’ll swap your toddler for my 34 year old!
Nothing worse than an overly whiny adult…. coping with massive broken heart is part of the learning process for better relationships in the future. Sorry about this mess. Disengage for sure! Otherwise you actually have a blood-sucking bad boyfriend on your hands without even realizing it.
It’s ok to grieve a lost relationship, but to turn into a masochistic melodramatic mess where kindness is deliberately rebuffed is so petty and childish. I think you’ve done your job and should just leave him be if he’s going to be so inconsiderate.
Btw, you smell awesome. Glad you’re liking it so much.
Oh my goodness, that’s such immature and down right selfish behaviour!, he sounds completely self absorbed.
Look after yourself, ihadanidea, it must be incredibly draining for u, I hope the situation improves soon.
Maybe you can offer him some Epic for his “Epic breakup and breakdown” Joking..
Keep smiling and smelling wonderful..and disengage from him. Though it its hard living under the same roof
Whoa! I thought guys were better at moving on!
I recall this column from Carolyn Hax, on a similar topic.
Take care!

Good luck! It’s a frazzle week for sure. Me too. My hair is standing on end and my tank is empty!!!
Another cousin here! I’m in Jubilation 25.
Ugh, he sounds like a diva! I KNOW you smell GREAT in Epic!
I made myself late to work today, trying to find my sample of Jicky, and it was totally worth it 🙂
Good for you!
Excellent!
Nice priorities.
First things first.
Wowza! Today I got a happy surprise. 🙂 Bit of backstory: I won a set of 10 Estee Lauder minis in an auction, which fortuitously arrived for this week. Most of the minis are doubles of each other so I’ve been wearing just one of them.
This morning I noticed a drastic difference in color for the Youth Dew minis – one was a much darker brown. I thought it might be a difference in formulations so I checked the bottom and lo and behold the darker one is a parfum!
So it turns out half my minis are parfum and I’ll need to try all of them all over again to see what the difference in concentration is like. 🙂 Delighted to, of course.
SOTD = Youth Dew parfum on the left and EDT on the right. Surprisingly, the EDT is much louder but the parfum is much richer. It is a classical perfume so parsing out the notes is beyond me, but the difference in concentration is significant. It feels like the EDT is missing a few, or one key, ingredient of the parfum. Both smell delightful, though. I had to upgrade my wardrobe to my monarch butterfly color blocked sheath dress with black leather heels for today. 🙂
Side note, pretty sure I tried Beautiful parfum last night, and my S.O. exclaimed I smelled really good. He doesn’t usually compliment my fragrances, so it was another nice surprise. In this case I also agree with him – a well blended floral with some nice musk mixed in. The balance between musk and floral is astonishingly perfect.
Furthermore, I agree with everybody’s comments about yoga! Unfortunately my body decided it wasn’t going to let me do as well as last week, but I pushed myself and that’s enough. In addition to being exercise yoga has the additional benefit of teaching you to focus on your breathing, and the present. I’ve found this enhanced concentration has been really helpful at work as well!
I bet the YD Parfum is Great! My big complaint with YD is that it is nearly atomic in sillage. Even when I give myself a dab from a cotton ball, it can be TOO MUCH. But that warm, spicy fragrance feels so classic and comforting, when applied s-p-a-r-i-n-g-l-y.
I wore it a couple of days ago and gave about a spray and a half to the middle of my ribcage. It was still noticeable at the end of the day. (And the next. When I got in the shower the heat reactivated it and filled the bathroom with the most amazing steam. It was recognizable as Youth Dew, but in a wispy sort of way.) But it was much more pleasant than when I spray on my neck and wrists.
Yep, I had a scary moment with the EDT when I thought the sillage would be too much for my coworkers. Thankfully I have a long commute which let it die down a bit. I can tell it is tenacious though – the sillage of the parfum is still constant. Not that I would mind smelling it tomorrow. 🙂
Wow. What a great discovery! I had no idea that Youth Dew was ever available in extrait.
Oooo, nice!
Yep! Thank goodness they didn’t photograph the bottoms of the bottles, or I might have had to deal with a bidding war. Got these for a song instead. 😉
I went spelunking in the depths of my scent cabinet for some Tuscany per Donna I thought I’d tucked away… didn’t find it, but stumbled upon a vial containing 3 drops of Cinnabar. It looks rather thick and evaporated, but I’ll see what I can do to coax it out. If not, there’s always Youth Dew.
Youth Dew it is.
SOTD= Bergamoss. I love this but my sample spray, 4 spritz’s is pretty well gone at 4 hours. Is the solid longer lasting?
Yes, I was amazed at how long the solid lasted when I tested it. Honestly I think four hours is already very good for a natural, but the solid went all day–like 8 hours at least, I want to say even more than that (but I wasn’t paying close attention to the clock.)
Good to know!
The spray lasts longer than this on me, but the solid even longer. Man I love this stuff. You smell great.
I wanted something sunny but still cozy to match the showers-sunshine-hail-overcast-sunshine properly Oregon spring weather we’re having. Settled on Orange Star. Don’t reach for this one often, but I think it’s doing the trick!
Oh, what a lovely sounding choice! And don’t you just love teh all seasons in one type of spring weather? LOL
Actually, I kinda DO like it! Only down side is the warm, sunny moments are such a tease!
Portland has the most beautiful spring weather anywhere in the world! I miss that so much and so does my poor hubby who is a native portlander. I used to live in NW and there was this mass of blooming cherry trees along the streets and oh, just so much beauty!
That sounds so lovely. Chicago’s spring is awful because it lasts about three days if we’re lucky. The trees bloom and everything is beautiful, then we get a nasty, windy storm that knocks all the blossoms to the ground and spring is over.
Ditto that for where I live in PA. Spring either doesn’t exist or remains this murky brown thing until we move right into summer. Even if we get blossoms, the wind blows them right off.
It’s that wind along the Canadian border. I blame Canada. (Just kidding, neighbors) I was raised in Rochester, NY, where Karen B is.
Blame Canada indeed!!!
Plums are now in full bloom and cherries aren’t far behind! It really is lovely!
I love Orange Star, it is so happy-smelling.
Agreed!
Love this weather. I stepped out to my car this morning and seemingly overnight my yard has developed flowers! Spring showers really do bring flowers. 🙂 Also never realized our street has a line of cherry trees. Very pretty, although they are much too young to even begin to compete with the cherry tree esplanade on the Portland waterfront.
I know. I keep being surprised by things suddenly being in bloom. I have an early-blooming bleeding heart that is so perky right now!
The waterfront is so luscious. I think I need to schedule a run down there before the blooms get washed off the trees!
Le Labo 18 as I continue my EL acquisitions week. It is a close cousin of Musc Ravageur.
Hmmmm – gives me an idea that perhaps tomorrow I could also wear my LL Rose 31….. I like this acquisition angle for sure.
SOTM is smoke, from getting the wood stove going. (Snow again tonight, but 70s next week!) But, after my shower I’m going to try my sample of Guerlain Ne m’Oubliez Pas! I was lucky to win a sample on Perfume Posse, and indulging in luxuries is something of the past since leaving my job for stay at home motherhood. This little sample feels like luxury, even if I don’t have a great relationship with Guerlain. 🙂
On a less than happy note, my toddler Walden is pretty sick. So he’s extra cranky. And extra cranky means crying and yelling, and crying and yelling incites extreme coughing, and coughing makes him cranky. It’s a sad cycle in our house!
That’s too bad Sun Mi. I hope your baby boy feels better soon!
thanks Petunia, i hope so too!
I hope your little one feels better soon so you can have some peace!
thanks AnnS! peace for the both of us would be great 🙂
Sounds like some cough syrup with codeine might help. Hope he feels better soon!
it probably would, but can you give that to a toddler?? i’m weary of even giving him too much ibuprofen when he’s teething, haha.
SOTD is Bvlgari Voile de Jasmin.
Scent-related information from astronaut Scott Kelly: Space has a smell–and it’s ‘burning metal’! (This was from a PBS show last night on his just-completed ISS mission.)
That’s interesting. I wonder if he thought of burning metal as a good thing or bad? It sounds good to me but I don’t think I’d want to smell it for a year.
I think he described it as distinctive or interesting. The air in the ISS itself seems to be pretty scentless because the one cosmonaut was talking about how, after being up there so long, he had started to imagine he could smell pine or dill from home. The burning metal was the smell of actual *outer space* from outside, that came in when the supply capsule docked!! They had video of Scott opening the hatch, sticking his face near it, and taking a whiff! Awesome.
Space pollution. Bummer.
Naw, they were pretty clear about it being the weird, otherwise unknowable smell of the vacuum of space once exposed to an environment with air. But, yeah, space junk & pollution are a major bummer. ????
That is amazing. I want to go to space!
Me too! Heck, I’d even settle for Space Camp.
I needed something very chill today because I am just plum worn out. SOTD is Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre.
Joining you in the “plum worn out” part!
😉
Hope you both will find some rest.
Robin, I hope you perk up as the day progresses. My SOTD is PHI. We’re back in the deep freeze today so it was calling to me. I’ll have to read comment tonight. Have a great day everyone!
Sadly, it is the opposite. I just need a good night’s sleep!
You smell great, though.
Partiers…. (shakes head)
Ha, I wish! More like middle age combined with job stress.
I really must dig up that sample of ELPCTG for tomorrow – I hope it’s where I think it is. (Oh dear.)
Testing Oriza Heliotrope Blanc (dull and powdery, but no Play-doh so far) against PdN Kiss Me Intense. I don’t know what the green note in KMI is, but I LIKE IT against the sweetness. I think I might like this better than KMT, where it was a little jarring.
KMI sounds very interesting….. !
Ah, I must try the intense.
Hey Mals – spent a whole day yesterday trying to find info on Kiss Me Intense vs Kiss Me Tender. I have KMT which I love and was wondering if I should look for a backup, or if KMI would be a good option. So today I’m wearing Kiss Me Tender which I am loving again. Was about to post and saw yours mentioning heliotrope.
I absolutely love this and had just ordered a bottle of L’Heure Bleue edt to test my remembered smell of it from 25 years ago. Can’t wait to get it.
I love KMT too. I haven’t tried KMI either. I guess I thought it would be sickeningly sweet. Must have been wrong on that assumption.
haha, wish I could find a perfume blogging scent twin. So far Mals, you’ve come the closest, but there are some we experience quite differently. I like Heliotrope Blanc, but admit it’s not one I turn to with any frequency.
It’s been awhile since I’ve tried any PdN, or shall we say NPC now.
Wonder if the hay note’s detectable in KMI.
Happy “Friday Eve” everyone! Oh Robin, I longed for my Tuberose Gardenia the other day, but didn’t have enough of it for my pleasure. Today I chose EL Bronze Goddess / JM Wild Fig &Cassis. I only had a dab of my BG body cream left and a little of the perfume. So, I used those all up and just topped it off with the Wild Fig & Cassis. For some reason, those two fragrances layered together actually came out really nice.
I am starting to run out of a lot of my fragrances and am itching to buy more, but I am trying so hard to be good and not spend until after our quarterly “damage poll”. This is sooo hard!
Sounds interesting. I really like Wild Fig & Cassis.
I like TG, just not today! I did remove and replace it 🙂
SOTD for me is Hiram Green’s Voyage.
So grateful for the kind NST commenter that generously sent me a decant of this. I thought we were moving into our Spring scents, but I was wrong.. we’re definitively still in winter!
Perfect for the return of winter! You smell great.
I only have one Lauder/ Aramis, which I’m saving for tomorrow, so SOTD is Lauder empire – Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire. It’s nice and I’ll enjoy using my sample but I don’t think I’ll ever spring for a FB. I have at least four vetivers that I like better/ as much already and it’s not cheap.
It isn’t cheap, but I do love it. And the soap is the best vetiver soap on the planet.
Oh, I do like the idea of the soap. That would be a good morning bracer.
SOTD is Aliage. My mom had the bath powder when I was little and it is one of my earliest scent memories. When I found out EL changed the bottle (and possibly reformulated) I went straight for the outlet and bought three of the old design. One for me, one for mom, one for a backup. It was one of the best gifts I’ve ever given her. As for me, I didn’t really need a full bottle, and definitely not two, but I do enjoy it and the memories it stirs up. It’s an energetic scent.
I’m in Ellie Nuit from Ellie D. I like it as a spring fragrance and there are a few snowflakes in the air where I am, but I just had to put some on. It’s March – spring can’t be that far off!
SOTD: Unpredictable spring weather here in Oregon- sunshine, rain, high winds, then sun again! And to carry it all- I am wearing something light but watery, warm but airy. In DKNY today! I found a few test tubes while doing some deep cleaning, and it’s perfect for days like today!
OOTD: Black shirt, High waist white jeans, leopard pumps, gold necklace.
Wildlife day, huh? I’ll tell the kitties. They’re at the window chattering at the bluejay in the birdbath. I’m watching a very skinny rabbit nibble the remaining pathetic shoots of my once-beautiful Russelia.
I’m wearing quite a bit of one of the Sultan Pasha oils. After the trouble I went to to get my package from the post office yesterday I’m glad that whichever vial leaked is very pleasant. I think it’s Tabac Oranger but the number rubbed off with the oil and I haven’t bothered to check carefully. Tobacco usually makes me uncomfortable if it’s the primary note and I could easily bathe in this one. Very simple, linear warm ambery tobacco as far as I can tell with my allergy affected nose. Reminds me of the drydown of something that I can’t put my finger on.
Will be curious how you like the others. I need some courage before trying them with the whole paperclip thing.
EL Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang for me today. When it poops out, will reinvigorate with EL Amber Mystique.
Busy day is busy and I’m in Sensuous Nude. Hope everyone is doing ok.
Twin! I have some other Lauder minis but not sure if they have gone off… Need to do some sniffing at Macy’s to compare.
Unsure of what fragrance to wear on another cold, snowy day, Robin’s photo and National Wildlife Day prompted me to reach for Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant. An inexpensive blind buy for me based on reviews (I know better by now) I can only take this one in very small amounts. There’s a note I usually don’t care for but can’t identify – perhaps it’s the cardamon? – but today the spices/woods/vanilla combo is working quite nicely.
I love that one, but agree, sometimes it can feel a bit too much.
I love Jungle but usually save it for evening. dutomg the day I have to use it very sparingly! The cardamom is very present for me, too.
Oh, I may wear Jungle tonight. Perfect!
Twins with Robin in Tuberose Gardenia (unless she’s already washed it off!). I have several little samples, which seems to be enough, as pretty as it is, I seldom wear it.
Mine is gone! Just the wrong day for it. Hope it is doing better for you.
I’m wearing Infusion d’Iris Absolue today. The level in my bottle is so much lower than I remember–either the dog is wearing it or it’s evaporating, so I will doctor the bottle with some plumber’s tape. For tomorrow I have a choice of Private Collection, Youth Dew, Tuberose Gardenia, or Bronze Goddess. I’ll decide tomorrow but I’m pretty sure it won’t be BG.
SOTD = Chanel Coromandel
I think I offended someone on the train because she initially sat behind me on a covetable seat and got up and left to sit someplace less desireable. All I can say is poor thing, she doesn’t know what she is missing!
My outfit today – slate grey pinstripe suit with the pinstripes coming from the weave of the cloth rather than from a different color thread, slate blue crew neck shirt with satin piping, gold-tone Coach Legacy collection bangle bracelet where one of the stripes is a deeper slate blue, silver-tone Brighton round pendant necklace with blue / purple and maroon American-Indian inspired pattern and gold & silver cable-rimmed diamond post earrings to tie in the non-matchy-matchy jewelry.
I have a meeting with my soon to be new boss this afternoon. Wish me luck. My current boss is leaving next month.
Good luck! You look and smell fabulous!
Well I for one would love to besitting next to, u today, u smell utterly beautiful, and my decant of coromandel has run out, so I would love to smell it on someone else instead!
I really enjoy interesting textures and weaves, and you’re suit and jewellery sound beautiful together.
Forgot to wish u Good Luck!
I love your outfit! Good luck with the new boss, hope you have instant good chemistry.
I was an offender yesterday too; decided to go to the gym after I had overapplied Jub XXV. I tried to scrub a bit, but I’m sure I was still distinctly great smelling and I’m pretty sure the woman at the next bench who gave me a look of horror and fled was not a fan. I felt kinda bad, but reserve the right to defend myself from the bros in aquatic horrors and the froot-shampoo girls by projecting something better.
Hope the meeting goes well! And hey, that’s why there’s more than one seat on a train????
Thank you everyone. It went well! It was one of those where I’m always ready with what I need to say, kind of like having an elevator speech that I can flex to any length depending upon audience, interest level, and end goal.
Misia for me as it just smelled right today. I’m not always sure why one thing is it for any given day!
Scientists cannot explain why we fall in love, or with whom(/what). I rather like the mystery…
Hi AnnieA, It was lovely to receive you’re email, but my reply wouldn’t send to you’re address for some reason, but I’m sure we can arrange a date in May via sophieC
Really looking forward to meeting up with u, Sophie and Annicky!
It’s Friday ( hurray) and i don’t have any EL perfumes. I’ve woken up in a ‘Don’t feel like it’ mood…nothing’s wrong at all but I just don’t feel enthusiastic or inspired by the day ahead, and can’t make up my mind about what perfume to try, or what to wear. I think i just need to go for a long explore on the hills and maybe do a good day’s work …two proven solutions to my bad attitude.
I wish I had a floral perfume in my collection. A walk through a meadow on a sunny day scent…any suggestions? I like the sound of California Reverie and Journey ( would love to try Journey…would love to go on a journey! Hee hee.)
So nice to read all your comments…perks me up!
I’ve got some fairly-vintage joy & some non-vintage Sublime, both florals of a high order. I’d gladly send you decants of either or both. I can stop by S&C and see if they have carded samples of California Reverie, but when I think about the things that you have commented on and the things you sent me, I honestly don’t think that you’ll like it. But honestly, no trouble to send floral things: would love to share.
Thanks for the offer but I’m not sure I like florals, really. I know I’m not keen on rose. Anyway, I’m just back from a long walk through gum trees and native bush and my moodometer has swung back up. Now I just have to clear my desk of two exceptionally dull chores: proposals and budgets: Target audience and ‘outcomes’ zzzzzzzzzz and one more zzzzz. (Outcome = more money for perfume vs. outcome = contributing to our knowledge of….)
The cherry trees are starting to bloom here. In a teensy spritz of Bollywood or Bust in deference to the delicate nose of a coworker. Now that I am trying the powerhouses at work I am starting to find restraint seems to suit some of them – who knew?
Vintage Aliage for me today. I wore this in the early ’80s a lot and got a ton of compliments.
Needed something sharp and fresh as I’m starting to pack up boxes in advance of a move at the end of the month. We wanted to go smaller, cheaper and just had our application accepted for a 1 bedroom in the same building. It all fell into place as I also got word last night that our current landlord was planning to not renew our lease and is putting our current place up for sale. Major answer to prayer….
So glad you don’t have to move your things far.
Wonderful news that you can stay in the same building!
Hello, hello and hello! I kind of passed out yesterday afternoon (I did come home; I didn’t collapse in my office!) , then slept pretty well last night too, and now I’m feeling ominously bouncy and ridiculously cheerful. Bring Friday to me, world, and let me see what I can do with it! I thought I would pootle off in White Linen again, but it’ felt just too ladylike for my present expansive mood, so I spent a very enjoyable five minutes dithering between Femme and Youth Dew, and ended up in…Elephant! Of course I did! Makes perfect sense, somewhere, in some tucked-away corner of another universe, perhaps. No EL project for me today on my real Friday, but maybe I’ll join TOH tomorrow. I rather lke having two chances to join in! Be well and happy, everyone. if I see puddles today, I’m going to jump them, and if no one’s looking, maybe IN them….
Glad you’re in a wonderful mood water Dragon!, Hooray for Friday’s!
Enjoy the l’Elephant (and your expansive mood)!
So glad your insomnia has been kicked to the curb. Enjoy your energy.
I’m wearing Knowing again today after reading some comments about how much others like it and being unable to understand how my taste could have changed so much in a year. (I’m referring to my Monday experience.) What a relief! Today’s it’s the Knowing I knew and loved, and I think perhaps it was such an abrupt change from whatever I’d been wearing the week before that those scenticles couldn’t get their bearing.
Scenticles. 🙂
Could be the juice in the atomizer straw was off on Monday and it cleared up for your wearing today. It’s nice to have an old friend back!
Wearing Mythique today– it had arrived at my new place before I did
That is a wonderful welcome. Mythique is beautiful.
Phaedon “Sable Marocain”. Standard report type #2 from me: “smells lovely, but where did it go?”
Today I’m wearing a sparing application of Youth Dew, which I like but that name is just the worst. Both because the phrase itself is awful (like words that sound kind of gross but really aren’t, like “moist”), and because it seems like kind of an “opposite day” sort of name. Youth Dew: neither youthful nor dewy. Discuss. 😛
The “Juicy” of the 50’s. 🙂
Ha! If only the Juicy of now were as good
HAHA, there IS something about the name that sounds both icky, yet a bit like a witch’s potion, brewed to make you young again
You know.. I hadn’t thought of it that way. It does kind of make sense.
My husband hates the word moist. Says either clammy or dank sound more appealing to him.
Youth Dew always makes me think of sixth graders after PE class, yuck.
Wow, thanks for poking out my mind’s eye. ????????
The word I really hate is “mouthfeel”. The worst was when I was watching Stephen Raichlen’s grilling show on PBS (he has roughly the charisma of a brick but does some interesting stuff sometimes), and he said something had a “luscious mouthfeel”. Ick. Just ick.
Ha,ha,ha,ha! Agree….yuck!
Hi everyone. I’m concerned about Newbiebex, she hasn’t commented in 2 or 3 days after the suicide she was dealing with. Bex, you ok?
Was mixing essential oils this morning, and I’m wearing that mixture both intentionally and un-. Spilled one on the counter… 🙁 Rosemary, atlas cedar, bay laurel, sandalwood, clove & some frankinsence/myrrh blend. Nice.
So glad you posted this. I was thinking the same.
I was wondering too and had hoped I just missed her.
