Another Monday, although some of you in the US probably have the day off work. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Ayala Moriel Komorebi. Tea at the moment: Upton's Bond Street English Breakfast.
Reminder: this Friday, 1/22, will be Noir Friday. Forget the fragrances with "Noir" in the name....wear a fragrance that feels / smells Noir to you.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Shalimar EdC. I think it’s vintage, and it’s in much better shape than the last specimen I encountered. So far, quite captivating.
I’m curious about this Komorebi!
Sounds lovely. I’m a fan of Shalimar, but haven’t tried the EdC.
I used to have a bottle of the edc that I gave to my mother in law (who wears the dusting powder). Pretty much any older bottle of Shalimar is going to smell fantastic compared to what is made now. I have an vintager edt, and it smells pretty much the same (with more leather) than my 10 year old Shalimar extrait!
Sounds wonderful, definitely on my Will Try list.
I haven’t tried the EdC but you’ve prompted to date my edp(1997) and PdT (1993) and now I have one on each wrist with the edp being more pungent and bitter citrus and the EdC brighter citrus, more sheer, with a smoother transition. How’s the EdC compared to other versions you’ve tried?
I meant PdT vs EDP
I’m curious about the EdC too. I keep seeing it for sale at Walgreens, at a reasonable price point, and I have a $5 off coupon, plus I should accumulate points for the purchase.
Ditto on the curiosity about Komorebi. I wrote the company asking about local stockists, but I doubt I will hear back. My inquiry about $34 for 1 ml sample w shipping went unanswered. Doesn’t mean that the scent isn’t amazing however!
Ceder, fir, and oakmoss? Yes please.
Hi Oakland Fresca: The following is for information only, I have no affiliation.
Ayala Moriel is an indie all-natural perfume maker (who also runs a natural perfumery school) in Vancouver who does not have any stockists. I note in her FAQ that she offers cheaper shipping if you are willing to risk shipping (by post) without insurance.
If you are interested in her other perfumes then it is a much better value to buy her set of 8 x 1ml samples which is on sale for $59 US rather than the usual $136. Sadly, the uninsured postal rate is still 38.00 🙁
Here is the link to her site:
http://ayalamoriel.com/index.cfm?PageName=Products&View=ProductsDetails&ProductID=10
Actually, shipping is usually $16 world-wide – unless the package is heavier than 500gr (which happens when heavier products such as candles and soaps are purchased). The $16 includes insurance and tracking within Canada and the USA. Postal Services have hiked their prices tremendously in 2015, and at the same time providing less built-in insurance/tracking for their international orders… Hence the increased shipping costs – and for overseas unfortunately , it will be over $30 or so to get a parcel insured and tracked.
Oakland Fresca – My email was broken from the 15-18 of January… If you sent your inquiry then, perhaps this is why it was unanswered… Anyhow – my company is mostly an online business, with only one shop in Vancouver carrying some of the fragrances (Dream in Gastown). I am open Mon-Thu by appointment for fragrance consultations and sniffing sessions – best to book at least a week in advance.
Hi Ayala,
That is very kind of you responding to my inquiry on NST. The error may be at my end in fact. I sent my emails to webmaster@ayalamoriel.com on 12/31 and 1/18. I see now that you have another email address listed under “contact us” in your website. Not sure how/why I got the webmaster email address, but that may be the reason why my emails never reached you.
I have heard really wonderful things about Komorebi, but with shipping the cost of a 1 ml sample is prohibitive for me. I will keep and eye/ear out for mules who can bring me a sample from Vancouver.
All the best wishes for your business, and great scent adventures.
–Oakland
Well, that explains everything! The webmaster@ is for tech problems and does not reach me at all…
I am really sorry about the shipping costs. I used to charge only $5 for samples, but that did not include insurance, and had too many that got lost in the mail and had to be re-sent… So the $16 at least ensures you will get what you ordered.
Most of my orders are for the sample packs that Lindaloo mentioned earlier, which are much better value…
I’m wearing AG Nuit étoilée today. Such a beautiful fragrance!
To all my American friends, enjoy your day off (if you have one). I love reading all those MLK quotes that are all over the web today.
You smell great!
Brrrrrrrr so cold outside!
I’m wearing an absolute favorite: Profumi del Forte Roma Imperiale
Whenever I love something this much I often think I should buy a half dozen bottles. Everything I love seems to get discontinued (Mariella Burani…Theorema…Dior Mitzah (altho seems to be intermittently back)…Love, Chloe…Cartier So Pretty…. Or if not discontinued, then becomes harder to get like SL Santal Blanc and Fumerie Turque…And so on…(I could easily think of 6 others if I tried)!
I have the same thoughts about RI. I have 100ml bottle but it will get used, and the thought that it might be reform’d or discontinued by then horrifies me. Not the cheapest to have to back-up though which is a pain.
Agreed. $225 for 100 mL isn’t the cheapest for back-ups. Maybe I’ll just buy 1 bottle, because the one I have is half-full at this point, and I could easily use it more often because I love it So Much.
I’m sad about Love, Chloe, too. Bought a back-up bottle.
I didn’t know Santal Blanc has been difficult to find. I have rediscovered it recently and I am crazy about it and I have a small amount left in my bottle.
Santal Blanc used to come in their spray bottles and was an export (not Paris exclusive). For the past few years Santal Blanc has become a bell jar only (therefore increasing the price) and mostly unavailable from the usual stores in the U.S. I personally prefer spray bottles and steer clear of bell jars. So I’m grumpy about this!
Oh no, I didn’t know about Love, Chloe or Mitzah. My heart is broken. I am especially mad at myself because there was a bottle of Love, Chloe at Marshalls a few months ago that I was very tempted to snag but didn’t. Wahhhhh.
It’s really hard to not want to stock up on a favorite b/c even if they continue to make it, they may tweak the formula, etc. I think it’s always better to err on the side of caution b/c if someday you don’t want it, something that important and rare can be easily swapped or sold. I could kick myself for not buying another bottle of Mariella Burani as well as the original formula of the No 5 eau Premiere…….
It’s cold here as well. SOTD is Amoureuse, gorgeous.
Mmmmm, you smell great.
You smell like spring!!!
I’m going to have a crown put on a tooth I broke last month, so I wanted to wear something other than a heavy oriental. I’m finishing up a Givenchy sample, Ange ou Demon Le Secret. OK for its purpose, which is to be not overwhelming to the dentist or technician.
Ouch, hope your appointment goes ok today.
Me too!
AoDLS (such a mouthful!) was my very first perfume I bought myself! I liked it’s pretty citrus note (they call it cranberry, but whatever) and the cozy dry down. Don’t wear it much now that my tastes have evolved, but I still think it’s pretty!
Test driving Tauer’s L’Air du Desert Morrocain today, unsurprised to find that it’s a gorgeous combination of incense, amber, and a whiff of white flower’s.. yum, however i was expecting a very strong presence, but only smelling it faintly 6 hours in, and am a little underwhelmed by this beauty. It won’t be replacing Amber Sultan as my must have amber, or knocking Incense Rose from it’s top spot ‘perfume to aquire a full bottle of in the autumn.'(ridiculous i know, to have all these little lists, but it’s so satisfying!, i know u all understand!)
mayfly, have you tried: SL Chergui, J Ambre Loup, MPG Ambre Precieux, Arabian Oud Kalemat, Profumum Amber Aurea. These are all amber perfumes I have worn and like. There are others, of course, but these are top of mind.
Thanks hajusuuri, i have and love Chergui, but have not tried any of the others in you’re list. I’m going to look them all up now, on fragrantica, and add them to my ‘must try’ list!
I forgot one – Tom Ford Amber Absolute. SicilianaM dubbed it Bigfoot and I agree.
I add By Killian Amber Oud as a do try amber…
will add to list, thanks.
Sometimes, I really hate the iPad. Anyway, it is Rania J? Ambre Loup.
I second Ambra Aurea and will throw in two further facorites to try if you haven’t already: Alahine & Ambre 114.
Thanks, Alahine gets so much love, would really like to try it, don’t know if it’s available in UK, will find out.
I had the opposite experience with L’dDM. I kept getting whiffs of it, up to the 10-12 hour mark, but it was mostly a smell that I can only describe as hot rocks. It smelled so dry, and hot, that it made my nose feel dry. I found that PHI had a similar dry down, but it was sweeter, so it didn’t feel as dry.
Lasts forever on me, too. Not strong (like PHI) but present. I love them both!
I can smell LADDM for many hours, even just the smallest dab. Maybe you are anosmic to something in the base?
Same experience for me. One of the few that I can smell all day.
Oh no, I can smell it. I just don’t like it that much after a few hours.
That’s where we differ. I love it!
hmm maybe, i think it’s more my skin tho, as i can smell it, (and it’s gorgeous) on my sleeves today.
It’s my first day of 2 weeks leave- yaaay! 🙂 It’s my birthday tomorrow and I don’t work on my bday if I can help it.. lol.
Today was just some housework and relaxing, and changing fragrance each time one started to fade. So far has been Kiki, Belle en Rykiel, Caron Violet Precieux and Aesop Marrakech. The last 2 were one on each arm and the dry dirt/violet mixed well with the dry spices.
Happy early birthday!
Ooh, how did you like the Caron? I’ve been eyeing that one.
It’s my favourite violet, not sweet at all but rather the smell of violets and garden dirt. It’s dry and cool and a bit musty, but still prominently violet.
That sounds fabulous. I love the scent of garden dirt and am so glad to discover that such a perfume exists.
It DOES sound fabulous, just exactly the sort of violet I long for in the depths of winter. I promise not to buy up every last bottle, you guys … but I do see at least one in my near future!
AAAAAND my first perfumista impulse-purchase of the year is a done deal!
This sounds like the perfect violet… Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, Perthie and yay on your two-week leave! What do you have planned?
Thanks hajusuuri! My plans are a bit of pottering about the house getting some things done, catching up with friends and family, going to the beach/markets/movies or whatever catches my fancy, going to yoga, and a bit of fabulous nothing too 🙂
Sounds lovely! Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday a day early and have a great leave.
Wow, 2 weeks leave is a lovely birthday present! Enjoy.
Happy Birthday! enjoy the vacation!
Happy early birthday! Sounds like a nice staycation you’ve got planned. That Caron has been on my sample wish list for a long time. I must remember to try it. Sounds a bit like SSS Voile de Violet which is an earthy, dry violet which I liked.
Happy Birthday, and many more!
Happy Birthday perthgirl!- have a wonderful perfume filled day!
Happy Birthday, Perthgirl!
And that scenery is beautiful. Stunning. Very glacial looking. I know we have sharks that eat people and swimming here probably isn’t all that safe, but there’s something about swimming in lakes that freaks. me. out. The cold currents, and the reeds, I think.
Happy Bitthday!
Happiest of days to you, Perthgirl, and have a great beak from work, too I’m with you about preferringbot swim n the sea, by the way! Lakes are unchancy things, somehow.
Happy Birthday! I refuse to work on my birthday too 🙂
Me three! Happy Birthday Perthgirl!
Happy Birthday and enjoy the two weeks leave – that’s long enough to to really relax.
Happy early birthday and vacation! Sounds like you are off to a good start. You’ve got some lovely fragrances on.
Happy Birthday & enjoy your break! I also like to run through testing when I am at home doing housework. It is a cheerful distraction. Cheers!
Happy birthday! Have fun !!
Have fun relaxing and experimenting. 🙂
Happy birthday and many happy returns! I’ll have to try that Caron; I’m a sucker for violet, in general, and this one sounds great.
Happy early birthday, perthgirl!
Have a very happy, and wonderfully scented, birthday!
Happy birthday perthgirls!
perthgirl… Sorry, spellchecker
Parfums de Nicolaï Patchouli Homme (the old stuff, before it was unisexed into Patchouli Intense). A big fat cloud of patchouli and citrus which gradually resolves into a vanilla amber with a shaving of leather. So so so gorgeous.
Interesting, do you know how the smell changed when it was unisexed?
I’ve never smelled the new stuff, but it’s usually a good bet that if something is 1) over three years on the market or 2) renamed, it’s been reformulated at least somewhat. I’d assume that at the very least, the patchouli has been cleaned up some, in accordance with modern tastes.
I wore that to a dinner party last night, definitely one of my favorite fragrances.
SOTD: Liquo (Angela Ciampagna).
Good morning! This is dottieCHI, now dottieNC. 🙂 After a stressful four days, we are finally settled in our temporary apartment in North Carolina. There so much to do. Today we’re going to buy a car, since we didn’t have one for almost a decade living in Chicago. I’m wearing Chanel No 22 for poise while dealing with salespeople.
Poise is very important when dealing with salespeople. BE STRONG.
Hope it goes well, and I hope you enjoy living in NC.
Welcome home and good luck with the car!
Welcome to the east coast! Hope the settling in goes smoothly!
Hey, welcome back. Not the best weather, sorry (though probably better than Chicago). Hope things settle in smoothly.
Didn’t realize we could change our screen name…duh. 🙂
Chicago is below zero with -20 windchill today, so I don’t mind the weather here too much. 🙂
Technically we can’t change usernames on our accounts, but we can use nicknames.
Exciting and challenging, best of luck!
Good luck! I hope it goes well for you!
Hi, dottie! Good luck car shopping….
You will smell fantastic for dealing with car people. No 22 is really so sophisticated!
I agree. Its one of my “de-stress” scents also. Good luck with everything.
Thanks!
Thanks, all! So far, so good.
Welcome to the east coast and good luck as you get acclimated to the next phase of your life!
I’m wearing the deliciously manly Le Troisiemme Homme.
I’m really looking forward to trying that one, such a good review in the guide! i love pour un homme-
how would u describe it?, i’m tempted to blind buy, as prices good on ebay..
It’s a big fougere with a lot of lavender in the opening and an awesome patch drydown. If you typically like Caron’s masculines, it’s one of the greats!
Thanks Elisa, it sounds wonderful!
Caron Pour Un Homme + Mouchoir de Monsieur + Jersey extrait
For lavender galore.
My, oh my, you smell fabulous!
Mind you, you could have added some Nicolaï pour Homme and BK A Taste of Heaven, just to top it off.
Oh right, I have heard about A Taste of Heaven, I will have to check de Nicola:i.
Discontinued I’m afraid, but a beautiful green lavender.
So swift to be discontinued after 8 years??
Wow.
Wonderful!
Ooh la la, lavender galore indeed! ???? Must try Mouchoir de Monsieur as I love the other two.
Try it with an open mind, though. The civet took me by surprise the first time I tried it.
I’ll recommend Caldey Island Lavender for Best Straight Up Lavender.
Also Richard Luscher Britos 44°N 03°E – Causse Méjean for a totally different take on lavender. Andy Tauer is the perfumer… it’s meant to be the scent of a sparse dry scrubby plateau in the south of France, and it really is.
oh, that sounds great. Does it resemble L’Air du Desert Marocain at all, I wonder?
Not really… no incense.
‘sheep excrement’ — I am going to have to do some digging on this one. Not sure if the local perfume shop carries it.
I could post you some from the hill above my house!! I wouldn’t even need to dig . Better still I can send you my dog after she has rolled in it…
That sounds like a perfect antidote-to-winter scent!
Woah! Must be like floating in lavender heaven.
It is. And surrounded by some civet cats 😉
Wow! I love lavender and you are just swimming in it!
I had had these lavandula multifida thriving in my living room, and they were more agrestic than the lavandula angustifolia, but they were watered too much and rotted away. Such a pity.
I’ve tried to grow some lavender outside, and some seems to be indestructible (even to zone 4!), and some very cranky.
SOTD is Chanel 19 EDP. If I have to work on a national holiday (and I do), then I’m gonna smell great doing it. 🙂
And you do!
You smell wonderful!
Excellent thinking.
Work scent. That galbanum strength!
No. 19 is invisible armor.
This.
You smell wonderful, and I hope you get a different day off to compensate.
You smell great!
Thanks, all. The 19 has been holding me upright all day so far … and it’s been a rather fraught day. We’re down a staff member (now permanently, or at least until a replacement can be found) so we’re all scrambling to make sure nothing gets lost in the big shuffle.
I am in so.much.Angel this morning. I did not sleep well last night (I oversee student travel and we’ve had some situations abroad that need extra monitoring) and I kew this morning would be grueling, so I’m in my best blazer, some nice jeans, and much Angel. If I’m going to be trapped at my desk (I mean, command central), I might as well sit in a scent cloud that makes me happy.
Send Xanax! (I didn’t see any up for grabs in the Feebiemeet. ; ) )
I hope all goes well!
Good luck and great choice for a horrid day…
You smell gorgeous in your scent cloud. I too find myself reaching for the blue juice when in need of reassurance, confidence, and some power-comfort. Purchased the gravity star last year and am anxious to compare with a “vintage” mini, circa ’99, on the way from the Bay. Never had Angel pre-2012 so not sure what to expect.
Sending good thoughts your way and hope all goes well with your study abroad group. I work at a university and know you have an extremely demanding, challenging job. All the better reason for an Angelic scent cloud (or Xanax).????
I’m sensing a theme here…. 🙂
Lol, of patchouli, xanax, or something else?
Ha ha, I meant ‘people compensating for not having the day off with great fragrance,’ but maybe the Xanax too…
I hope all goes well. I used to work as a tour operator, so I feel your stress.
Thanks all. I’m a very competent person but also very anxious, which means I’m good at my job (not to sound too conceited) and I like it a lot, generally, but man, does it stress me out. All seems to be holding steady at the moment, and we have some great faculty leaders in-country, so at this point, I’m just sitting tight as needed.
I smelled a woman ahead of me at the grocery store the other day in a cloud of Angel, and I really enjoyed it. It is a very cheerful scent that I prefer on other people!
I planned to wear something noir, but it has now turned cold in Brussels, so I’m wearing L’eau d’Hiver. It just seemed to fit (I wore it yesterday, too).
It’s funny that I didn’t like this one at first. I’ve come to enjoy it I think thanks to mimosa scent both in real life and fragrances – that’s opened my nose to that sort of powderiness.
Ooh I love that and you smell great. I think it’s such an elegant and delicate powder – but not remotely wimpy.
Wimpy scents are to be avoided at all costs!
I now realise my comment seems faintly ridiculous but I am sure you know what I mean!
Of course I do, but I love the word ‘wimpy’. Like I do ‘scrumptious’ and ‘flabbergasted’ , and many others that I’m now forgetting.
Yes :)!
could not be more apt. I have seen the local florist carrying several nosegays of mimosa for EUR5; they give a splash of colour to the monotony of January, really.
Same here, I bought four bunches this weekend and the smell of my brand-new Arquiste candle is mingling with the mimosa scent and all is well.
Do they last long? I am tempted to get them and put at the table. My Estonian friend put a couple of tulips, but I they are devoid of scents and a bit meh..
Mimosa lasts very well. Although that one time I kept the branches for weeks and they were all dried up in the end was maybe taking it too far. But it still looked attractive! (Estonian friend!?)
You smell great! It’s one if my favorite FMs and just seems to fit many moods and temperatures.
Yes, now I find it very easy and versatile. Go figure.
L’Eau d’Hiver is gorgeous. I have a sample somewhere, but prefer it in warmer weather. January, finally feels like January.
It works throughout the year, I think. And yes, very January 🙂
Something similar happened to me. I recoiled from
powdery scents. But then I met L’Eau de Hiver, fell into a crowd of mimosa scents and finally ended up buying some Infusion d’Iris end of last year ????.
🙂 Which other mimosa scents do you like?
Fleur de Cassie is my favorite! I also like LAP mimosa &, Dipytique Essences Insensees. I wish I loved Farnesiana more, but that one is too sweet for me.
Adore FdC, really want to try the Diptyque, but my local shop doesn’t have this one.
I love mimosa. I am glad that you are learning to like it! I find it a very cheerful powder.
Strangely, mimosa isn’t really listed as a note, although I do definitely smell it. Or is it heliotrope and I only think it’s mimosa?
I think that heliotrope and mimosa are often paired together, but heliotrope is sweeter and more vanilla. I used to have some L’EdH, and it got very sweet to me. It’s very pretty, definitely a powder bomb.
Ahhh — you smell wonderful!
Thank you! I guess I do 🙂
You smell great! L’eau d’Hiver was instant love for me. I didn’t buy it because it was so fleeting, although I should probably try it again from a larger sample.
It’s ridiculously cold here, and it’s Monday, so I reached for my comforting friend, Chergui. It’s becoming a Monday habit for me. And I need all the help I can get. My coworker is out sick, so it’s just me and the boss today, and apparently I’m not allowed to be upset that I’m running things alone today, because I need to “cheer up”. Yes. That will definitely help. If only someone had just told me how easy it was to be happier a long time ago! /end rant
Grrr… Annoying! Chergui should help you through.
Very. I’m coming to the conclusion that Chergui can help me do anything. It’s going to be my first perfumista FB purchase this week!
Do enjoy Chergui.
After challenging work days, you can feel good that you got through the tasks and nothing was that bad. I think I learned over the years, as you said, just to be happy. After all, it’s just the job, even though it may be an important one that is part of your identity. Then you can go home and liberally apply a work inappropriate fragrance that you adore!
Good luck today.
Thank you so much for the kind thoughts and advice. I’m sure it won’t be as bad as it seemed when I first got here. And like all days, it will end. I have to remind myself of that sometimes. It will end and I will go home and douse myself in something heady, maybe Joy, or Shalimar, or Fracas.
Nothing pisses me off more than being told to cheer up, especially on a Monday. You have every right to be snarly.
An off color inside family joke when one of us is a little grumpy–think finding only a cup and three quarters of flour and the recipe calls for two…. We say, “CHEER THE F^€% UP!!” which nine times out of ten makes everyone laugh, except maybe the aggrieved… 🙂
I tend to scowl when I’m concentrating so I’ve heard every well meaning and not so well meaning variation.
My old boss had the best response, which was to sneak down the hallway to the snack machine, grab a packet of peanut m&ms, toss them on my desk, and dive into his office. He would usually then either prank call me until I just couldn’t be grumpy anymore or, if he didn’t have a meeting scheduled, insist on taking me to lunch. He figured out very quickly that telling me to smile resulted in my booting him from his office so I could clean his desk or else finding lots of things that urgently needed his attention 😉
I’ll take that boss!
I have that look also, a lifelong curse! (Peanut M&Ms can fix a lot of ills, though most of us have to buy our own.)
Reminds me of the internet favorite story about the guy who accidentally kicked someone while playing soccer, and tried to say “I’m so f@$&*% sorry” and “are you okay?” at the same time and it came out as “ARE YOU F@$&*% SORRY??”
All too human!
Exactly! It never helps. I don’t know anyone who reacts positively to being told to cheer up. Especially pre-caffeine. I am very much in Garfield’s camp here. Mondays are the pits.
Ugh. “Cheer up” and “calm down” are sooo irritating. Hope the Chergui brings comfort to your day.
They are. Thank you! It’s already helped me settle a little. I wish I knew why I instantly latched onto this as a comfort scent. My grandfather used to smoke a pipe occasionally. Maybe that’s what I’m connecting to.
No one I grew up with smoked a pipe but I’ve always loved the smell. I’d follow someone just a little out of my way to be in their pipe-smoke wake. It is just a comforting smell to me also.
Maybe a little soft shoe to go with the cheerfulness. A cane? 🙂
LOL, I like the way you think. A huge forced smile and a little dance. As cheerful as it gets, right?
“Pardon me boys, is that the Chattanooga choo choo?” Who says sarcasm and a smile can’t go together?
While I have no idea about your gender identity, I particularly hate how female-presenting people are constantly told to “cheer up” and “smile”. Grrrrr. Glad Chergui can provide some comfort.
I am female indeed, and yes, I do find it particularly annoying in that context. As someone who does struggle with mental health issues (depression, anxiety, OCD, possible ADD, and God only knows what else) in addition to physical health issues, it makes it even more frustrating. I have to take a ridiculous amount of medication just to make it to work each day, never mind what kind of mood I arrive in. And when something like this morning happens, I get to take even more, lest I devolve into a panic attack. So much fun!
I’m lucky though, I don’t hear those things from my family, or my support system. They know it’s not that easy. And I have Chergui.
Awww, I’m so sorry. Just bury your nose in your Chergui and you will feel better. It is so comforting. You know, maybe if you would just smile more…JK JK. It drives me crazy when people say things like that.
My boss tells me to do that sometimes too, but everybody in our department is snarky so I’m allowed to tell him to go away and mind his own business, or be sarcastic back, or (insert shark here).
Sorry you don’t have that outlet. 🙁 Hope something in addition to Chergui makes your day better!
Sounds like we need a bottle of Chergui in every home! It’s such a great scent – office AND scent-phobic family safe.
I think you’re on to something here.
I like the idea of a bottle in every office – “in case of emergency, break glass” :^)
Perfection. “In case of emergency (literal, emotional, or otherwise) break glass and spray liberally”.
Cold morning, scraping ice and a little snow off the car. I’m on my third cup of tea and still not awake yet. Keeping myself busy with pre-reports work so I stay awake today.
I’m wearing Ambre Nue by Atelier colognes today and while it’s nice, something about it smells very… generic. I feel like I’m wearing some sort of amber scent made for a child, which is really just vanilla mixed with something chemically to make it amber-ish. I’ve not worn this one in quite a while so maybe I forgot how it smelled. It’s not bad per se, but just not as comforting of an amber as I wanted.
Which would you say is an amber gold standard? I tried the one by Armani Privé only once and it was almost edible..I like it enough on paper.
Hello I am sure others will have many answers but Ambre Fetiche is pretty amazing.
I’ve not smelled this one, but from reading the notes list and reading a few reviews, it sounds really nice.
It really is (although I am far from am amber expert) and would be interested to know what you think if you try it.
agree. AG Ambre Fetiche is amazing. Also Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe. Dior Mitzah is more Office Friendly as well as Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles.
Although “gold standards” are highly subjective when it comes to perfumes, I think MPG Ambre Precieux and SL Ambre Sultan are two that most would agree are good ones.
Ambre sultan is wonderful i agree! hajuusuri recommended several amber’s for me to try just a little while ago (see above) I’m trying L’Air du desert moroccan today, which is gorgeous but quite faint on my skin.
HdP Ambre 114 and MPG Ambre Dore are both beautiful too.
And so is Ambre Russe (PdE)
gold-standard as in when you think of pure amber perfume, it is the first thing that comes to mind. Say, lily of the valley, I think of Diorissimo.
Annick Goutal Ambre Fetische might just be it!
Also CB I Hate Perfume AmBrosius.
Woke up to temp of -2 F, but gloriously sunny. Le Chevrefeuille, because I like to imagine that it’s not actually winter, and I may well follow it up with Bronze Goddess later today.
Got a Bronze Goddess gift set Saturday for $25. I went looking for the rollerball, ended up with the big bottle, lotion and bronzer for the same price. I think this is the first time I have had a clearance perfume set coincide with a particular craving!
Glad you got such a deal! Normally, what your looking for is never on sale.
Where, if I may ask?
Macy’s. The Oakbrook IL store had another set as of Saturday morning.
I’m gonna check in Raleigh, thanks.
Hey neighbor! I’m in the SW burbs, too!
One reason I asked….immediately after Christmas, slews of gift sets started showing up in stores here that I know weren’t there before the holiday: Saks, even T J Maxx! Seems like there was another I can’t remember…
It’s this time of year in the cold winter doldrums that I like to start wearing summery fragrances. Le Chev is so cheerful! It’s like a bottle of sunshine for sure.
Agreed, just starting to occur to be how I could feel light and lovely in the bleak gray days with some assistance 🙂
And, inspired by AnnS, i just sprayed on some SL Clair du Musk on my right wrist, and inspired by dunno who I sprayed dzing! on my left wrist.
Crazy combo!
I am wearing a layering combo that is out of this world. SL Santal blanc and CD J’adore touche de parfum, these two together are perfection. Have a nice week everyone.
Ooh, that sounds marvelous. I just want to be under my comforter with a book right now, and wafting sandlewood.
Hey, that does sound nice.
Coromandel has me wrapped in its comforting embrace. Mmmmmmmmmm! Why, oh why, didn’t I also buy a bottle during my Chanel visit! When this sample is gone, I will have to visit the Amsterdam Chanel boutique, despite a negative past experience there. It is also ridiculously impossible to find a parking space in the vicinity, so my friend who takes me places in her car won’t be keen to chauffeur me when the time comes.
Winter has finally hit here. Last week, upon my return from Hamburg, I was amazed to find a rose in full bloom and my fuchsia’s also blooming! Now everything will be killed off. 🙁
Such a good perfume for the freezing weather. You smell great.
Mmmm indeed!
Yes, I have already seen cherry blossoms here since November. It is rather strange.
So nice! After sorting my samples I realised that while I own many samples I thought I didn’t, I no longer have any Coromandel. Something needs to be done about this.
Yes, indeed.
My small decant is also gone.. (pulls sad face)
Hi Jonette, I am a Dutch perfumista who comments here from time to time (not as often as previously because of health and other issues, nothing serious but just very tiring) and I have ordered the Chanel Exclusives (La Pausa in my case) much to my content with Place Vendome in Belgium (a.k.a. Perfume Heaven). You have to pay some costs for postage, but it saves you a stressful trip to the PC Hoofdprijs (as my husband calls it), and they pack it so wonderfully, and add lots of samples. Steven (co owner) is such a lovely man, no snobishness, just really wonderful and pleasant customer service). You can contact them via their website and transfer the costs. Hope this helps! Btw wearing Chanel 19 EdT, accompanied a friend to hospital and this always fits. And…nice to meet you here!
Hi Hamemalis! Hope you are having a great new year! And you smell great in No 19!
Thank you Ann, same to you! You have been crazy busy I think, haven’t you. The very good news is I ran a trial with sending samples to the US and jay! it worked. I was going to surprise you with Tolu, but can’t contain myself ???? so here it is….it should arrive within the coming weeks perfume gods willing.
Ah, you are so sweet!
PC Hooftprijs..
hahahahaha jouw man heeft goeie humor!!
😉
Hi Hamamelis! I hope you read this, as I’ve only just seen your post now. Thank you so much for telling me about the shop in Belgium. I actually had a brief correspondence with Steven a couple of years ago, when I tried to order a sample of Spriritueuse Double Vanille and he said he didn’t supply samples by post any more, only in combination with an order. But I am delighted to know I can order my Coromandel from him! (And then I can also request my Guerlain sample.)
I had called the PC boutique this morning and was told they “aren’t permitted to send orders via post”! So I especially appreciate your timely message.
Hamamelis is witch hazel in Dutch, isn’t it? (I’m too lazy to look it up.)
“P.C. Hoofdprijs”… ha!
How nice to make your acquaintance!
Hi Jonette, so nice to meet you! I hope it all works out with Place Vendome sending the much needed Coromandel. We visited it last summer on our way to France. We were showered with decants and samples, and they were kind and knowledgeable, and patient with my husband who totally go into it and kept smelling and asking for more things to smell…ofcourse we bought a lot too.
I had the same experience when I phoned the Chanel PC Hooft boutique last year, they must be doing very good business to not to be permitted to send orders, and to be so off putting to kind perfumistas…
Hamamelis is witch hazel, toverhazelaar in Dutch. It has the most special scent, spicy, orange, tangerine, carnationlike…, produced by spidery like yellow flowers on barren branches, they will start to flower any time soon now. A real winter flower.
Thank you for the inspiration. It’s really cold here and Coromandel
may be comforting enough so that I can keep from turning the heat up too high.
Sounds like Coromandel would be a good one for the splitmeet. 😉
I planned to wear Coromandel today – but then I was sidetracked and now I find myself wearing Infusion d’Iris Absolue. Coromandel tomorrow, perhaps…
Oh that transparent quality. I like the Infusion line very much.
So cold today I think the mild winter to date has made me really bad at this. Started off in Black orchid and then a small spray of 4160 Tuesday’s centrepiece arrived on my desk so I have added that to the back of my hand. Apparently it’s meant to be reminiscent of an ice cream parlour. I think it just smells like dark honey. Which is a good thing.
Hope everyone who has a day off today has a marvellous one.
That sounds wonderful, ‘dark honey is always welcome in the winter, albeit on porridge or in perfume! I like Black Orchid too.
Did u get snow in London over the weekend?, the fields behind my house were covered in a snowy blanket yesterday morning, and my kids made a snowman for the first time, which was lovely.
It is rather wonderful, and worth a sniff if you get a chance. We did indeed get snow in London yesterday although nothing like the beautiful snowy blanket you describe – it was just on cars and around the edges of gardens near me.
Snowman sounds so fun 🙂 – I secretly wouldn’t mind more snow but I know it makes travelling difficult so realise many aren’t as keen as me!
It’s true, many people aren’t as keen on snow as i am, as it is a problem when you need to get places.
That typo (fuchsia’s) is because I’ve gotten used to Dutch. They usually put an apostrophe before an “s” in plurals.
That’s interesting. I recently realized that English is the only language (I believe) to use an apostrophe with possessive pronouns. Where did those apostrophes originate, I wonder? Totally off subject.
Actually, grammatical English doesn’t use an apostrophe with possessive pronouns usage (his, hers, ours, yours, theirs and (the oh so rare now) its. The apostrophe is intended for contractions, eg should not becomes shouldn’t. It is (more commonly contracted to it’s) just that the apostrophe for possessives has become an increasingly common usage. I thought this phenomenon was just around the its/it’s issue, but the day I saw her’s I knew it was only a matter of time before I saw hi’s.
I suspect the apostrophes will remain, as one of the strengths of English is that it continues to adapt over time.
And I believe this usage in possessives may have been common during earlier centuries with more idiosyncratic spelling.
No work for me today, because the schools are closed and I have limited child care. It’s cold and nasty out anyway, so a good day to be home. Wearing JHaG Mad Madame layered over Korres jasmine lotion. It has become my favourite scented lotion, works well with a lot of what I wear.
Korres Jasmine is my favorite ever.
Wow, that sounds really delightful. Stay cosy.
Love Korres jasmine — it’s my ideal sugar-jasmine (as opposed to skanky-jasmine, which I also love…)
Happy MLK Day! A quote of his to inspire us: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Starting off with Vera Wang Embrace Green Tea and Pear Blossom. Light and fresh! 🙂
Happy MLK Day!
You smell great! Sometimes freshness is called for in the depths of winter!
Almost forgot it was Monday
MLK Day. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches
Thank you for the quote! 🙂
MLK day! Did some finish work in a Habitat for Humanity this weekend, and the family will be moving in this week. I wanted to go to the MLK service in Portland but forgot to schedule the time off, so will listen to it online.
SOTD: Smoky Poppy body wash along with Tom Ford Noir pour Femme emulsion cream.
OOTD: Golden yellow blouse, narrow blue trousers, high heeled short brown boots and a green wool cardigan.
From your descriptions, I love your wardrobe! Sounds like you clothes are as fun to choose as your scent.
And kudos on HfH work. Helping lighten someone’s load and giving people reason to smile is the best gift, and the best reward.
Mondays are my ‘dress up’ days and set the mood for the week, so I do try my best! Thanks!
HfH is really great work and you know, it’s really fun. You do it for the families but it’s fun to help put up drywall, lay down flooring or paint. I do working in tech but that is with robots and codes; it’s something else entirely to do something tangible with the hands.
I like to pick a dress up day too – I have so many nice clothes but usually defer to my more comfy ones. It’s a bad habit! I like to pick Wed so that it breaks up the week.
You can be stylish and comfy- no need to choose between the two.
Choosing Wednesday is great way to give a bit of perking up to the week!
Ann, I like the Wednesday idea. 🙂
Ede, I’ve done some building with mud – cob and adobe. The change from everyday life is truly revitalizing.
Hi There! I swear, one of my bucket list items is to buy a tiny plot of land and build a Hobbit sort of house, with cob or strawbales covered in plaster and have a stove for heating and cooking and have solar panels.
sounds lik a gorgeous outfit!
Thanks! It is sleek yet very comfortable. It’s nice to ‘dress up’ a bit for work!
You smell and look fantastic!
Thank you! I highly suggest Noir pour Femme emulsion if you like a scent to stay close to you. Another idea is if you have dry hair, to put a drop or two in your hair.
In Vivienne Westwood Boudoir this morning. Bought blind a few months back. Worried from reviews it might be a losing gamble but this stuff works some magic once it hits a human surface. The combo of notes sound scary- jasmine, narcissus, aldehydes, more florals, orris root, cardamom, coriander, patchouli, sandalwood, tobacco, cinnamon and vanilla. Somehow, in proper (read: small) dosage, it transforms into a skin scent, all those notes in perfect blended balance, that wafts subtly from underneath the confines of a turtleneck in the most glorious way. ????
I like it too and was scared by its reputation. On me it smells like orange blossom drenched in a slightly skanky honey. It’s actually quite cozy on cold days.
I don’t find it very boudoir-ish though tbh. Far more innocent. More like dressing-room. 😉
Agree, more lolita than femme fatale, more vanity dressing table than tangled bed linens. Makes it a little easier to slip past the office-appropriate police at work. 😉
I blind bought this too a few years ago and hated it initially, but I’ve since learned to like it although there are others I prefer to wear. I also bought Rochas Byzantine blindly about the same time and they’re remarkably similar to my nose
Memo Manoa to start off the day with a visit to the vets (nothing major fortunately).
Have fun. Hope the patient cooperates.
She was a very good girl! 🙂
I’m in remnants of last night’s Kenzo Amour and now with 2 variations of Shalimar on wrists. We saw The Big Short last night which was good but left me feeling vaguely depressed. Will have a lazy day off today to putter around and run some errands. Happy Monday to all!
Wanted to see that, thanks for the warning. Maybe on a sunny day, to counteract any effect on my mood.
Put on Bottega Veneta preshower, been scentless over the weekend due to sensitivities. Have a great day, all. (And thanks again, Dr. King!)
BTW, we went to the NC Museum of History yesterday. Is it only because I’m getting older that I appreciate historic figures more than before? I feel late to hop on board.
Despair is probably a better word. Just highlights the the ills of capitalism- nothing we’re not already aware of.
And you’re smelling great in BV!
I feel like using “pootle-around” a la waterdragon 😉
Ooh, those scents are wonderful. Now I’m considering layering Shalimar over My SOTD. Love Shalimar!
Beautiful photo! Monday’s SOTD is PdE Musc Tonkin edp. Hopefully the dry down will make Monday easier to bear. Saying goodbye to the weekend makes my eyes leak.
🙂 Sending you imaginary tap shoes.
Thanks! I truly need them????
SOTD = Parfums MDCI Chypre Palatin
Bernard Duchaufour is one of the most prolific perfumers and I consider this one of his greatest masterpieces. It is a warm blend of, well, everything but the kitchen sink. It is earthy benzoin-rich with floral undertones and a touch of vanilla. I am not doing justice to it with this description and encourage you to read the cornucopia of reviews. A little bit goes a long way so I am currently working on decants but may be considering a FB (with possibility of splitting).
It’s indeed very good. My favourite of his, is probably Havana Vanille.
Ha! And I think he should change his name to Bernard because I kept misspelling it unless auto-correct did it!
Well Queenie’s Nursie was called Bernard, wasn’t she? So he would be in very good company.
I have heard so much about that one, it’s on my hit list when my No Buy expires. Self-restraint is hard. ????
One of my all-time favorites. I’m still working on my 10 ml sample mini bottle from the discovery set, but might be ready to join a split when the time comes. 🙂
SOTD Madonna Truth or Dare Naked – a comforting but not over-the-top gourmand. Goes great with the chocolate chip cookies I baked last night. 😀
Yum, i blind bought this one last summer, and love it at bed time.
Yup, this and Jessica Simpson Fancy Love and Fancy Nights are nice in bed. Very cozy!
i haven’t yet tried the jessica simpson ones, Fancy nights sounds great.
It is seriously cold here today–below freezing! There was a light dusting of snow last night, so we had a family outing to the park this morning to play in whatever snow we could find. Chypre Mousse was the perfect accompaniment.
Wonderful, a family outing in the snow is magic!- we made a little snowman yesterday.
This freebie meet was so satisfying. I managed to screw up my courage to off-load some bottles that do not get enough or even any skin time. It was a courage thing because like books or even dried spices…. I worry that one morning soon I will wake up and think THAT is the scent I want to wear, and it will be gone. Totally ridiculous!
Question. I have a couple of bottles of scents I like but probably will not rush out an replace once they are gone, with just about 7-5 mls at the bottom. I am sorely tempted to decant these (looking at you Euphoria and Elie Saab) and toss the bulky bottles. Any one ever do this? Or is the risk that the remaining scent will go off much faster a deterrence?
SOTM= Infusion d’ Iris
MLK, how much the world, but my country in particular, needs someone with your political savvy, wisdom, and poetry. I am afraid we have strayed far far from the mountain top.
I’ve not decanted an entire bottle but I gave up something in a swap that I never really reached for but liked an occasional sniff, so I decanted a bit for myself and traded away the bottle in case that rare moment arises.
Now I see you only have a small amount left. I think if decanted into glass and stored upright, they should last. I have some older decants that still smell fine and haven’t evaporated.
Just a suggestion…I store my samples and decants in plastic baggies and haven’t lost one yet. I also use an ammunition case for the small dabblers. Ugly yes, functional, yes. It works for me. ????
It seems to me the air in the larger bottle would pose more threat of degradation than a new, clean bottle with less air space.
What is that bright light in the sky??? Oh, it’s the sun! Haven’t seen it in ages! Heavy rain forecast for tomorrow though…
No vacation for me today. SOTD is Canoe Skive, ever so lovely leather. Last time I wore it, it lasted just fine, but today it’s doing a vanishing act, boo.
After a night of heavy rain, it is so nice to see that big yellow shiny thing up there 🙂
It’s finally cold enough to really wear amber, so I’ve been taking them out to play. In Alahine today and it’s just gorgeous with thick sweaters and frosty air!
Almost wore it as well but got sidetracked.
ALAHIIIIIINE! Yes.
One of your favorites, right 🙂
Alahine is so nice on a cold day. Now that I’m dressed and it’s freezing outside, I’m going to follow in your footsteps.
Scent twins then, enjoy!
Alahine is so gorgeous, esp. in cold weather. It’s one of my favorite fragrances ever!
That reminds me that I need to dig out my sample.
Ver good morning, all. Today will be a hot sticky day, following a hot sticky night, and I was drawn to Ninfeo Mio, but perversely, sprayed L’Ombre dans L’Eau instead. I quite enjoy both, but Ninfeo just a little more for work, so why did I do this? I like Ombre for weekends, jeans and a sort days, not for formal times, and I really don’t like rose notes much, unless they’re the Hollywood-sized, overstated, look-at-me-I’m-a-rose types like Nahema. Now I’m going to be stuck with whispers of rose through the green all day in curriculum review meetings. But (cheering up considerably) the School of Engineering will be at the meetings, which means my dear man will be attending, and I always enjoy encountering him at work. His professional point of view is so alien to mine, and the engineers think in numbers! And argue from spreadsheets! Fascinating! So, boo to my perfume, but yay to the day!
Do not fear waterdragon, you smell terrific! L’ombre dans l’eau is one of my all time favourites. I tried Ninfeo mio last summer, and swooned over the opening, but unfortunately it went ‘poof’ within half an hour, such a shame.
LM Hard Leather. First time I tried it, I was wondering what am I going to do with the whole bottle of that – hated it with a passion, since I bought it unsniffed. Made myself promise never to buy unsniffed. Second time (a week later), I thought OK, I could live with it. Today is a third time, and I am loving it. I guess I will continue to buy unsniffed 🙂
I love HL but find it hard to wear unless I’m really in the mood. You smell great!
Haha and we all thank you for buying the really large samples to split!
Wearing Iris Ukiyoé today…
It was a kind of sharp and a bit fabric softener-esque to me at first. It has settled down quite a bit now. Not a scrubber but my least favorite of the Hermessences so far and I have 3 left to sample if you’re playing along at home.
I like it but it fades so fast on me – I would like to see an Iris Ukiyoke Extreme or something…
Yeah it seems like many of us could use a new line of Hermessences Extreme fragrances w/ more oomph and staying power.
It creates a certain sadness as you go through sampling them b/c they are all quite fleeting so you really try to sniff deeply and enjoy immediately after you’ve sprayed b/c they are not long for this world. I know all good things must come to an end but it seems like the end should be further out based on the price point. 😉
That was my first Hermessences FB. And although of course I like how it smells, I do wonder whether it isn’t also the name that adds something to the experience, as I really like Japanese prints. (He said, as if he had ever seen one outside a museum or a book).
Makes sense to me!
Just as thyme grows wild on the hills of Central Otago so does Sweet Briar. Once again you get traces of the scent as you walk. The leaves, when crushed, have a soft Apple flavour and the flowers and rose hips ( which during the war were manufactured into syrup for Vitamin C ) have a jammy scent…in fact a little like Lush’s Rose Jam. At this time of year the scent isn’t strong as the flowers are mostly gone and the hips are still green but it will intensify soon as the late summer heat increases. The final scent map note of this area ( at the moment) is the rich, again jammy scent, of fallen stone fruit…ripe apricots scattered on the ground beneath the aisles of trees…as this is the stone fruit growing area. I will return later for another scent map round when the grapes are harvested. So many scents, so little time!! Happy MLK day.
🙂
Cold and grey here and tummy not well. I’m wearing DK Gold and planning on peppermint tea very soon.
Sounds lovely!
Oh, hope you feel better soon!
Too cold for my taste today. I’m thinking Chergui or Prada Candy to stay warm in the cold.
or layer both??? I need to try that myself!
And inspiration strikes. Consider it done!
Having fun with the freebie meet – I am rehoming worthy but not for me samples and scents, and I have asked for a couple a unfamiliar things – kind of like less risky blind buys!
SOTD is my venerable Chanel #5. I had that, “Aah, why don’t I wear this more often” on my way in to work, as the heater blasting away warmed up the car and my wrists, and I was enveloped in classic goodness. 7 hours later, down to a still lovely but growing faint skin scent. Seems like the prior EDP bottle have lasted longer and stronger, but maybe my skin is changing, or the heater blasts cooked the nice molecules off me faster than they would have normally gone…
In any case, I think a larger bottle of #5 is in my future, so I can spray with abandon… 🙂
I love to wear No 5 in the winter! I want to wear it more and more. I knew I was in for a long day of chores, so I pampered myself with a super hot steamy shower in the late morning, and put on some of the bath oil so the smell permeates the house. Then, I put some vintage extrait on last night after my daughter went to bed ….
What luxury! Enjoy…
I’m wearing the works-well-in-winter iris, Iris Cendre.
You smell terrific!
I just tried that and it smelled a lot like Iris Silver Mist on me, with perhaps a tiny touch of smokiness. Lovely, but not different enough for me to be FBW. If I did not already have ISM I would definitely buy it.
I’m wearing Estee Lauder Cinnabar today. I’ve really been on a Cinnabar kick lately.
I’m at home today with my daughter so I’m doing a variety of chores and work at home stuff. But it’s a nice break on a very cold day to not have to go out. For the new year, I’m making a very serious attempt to weed out some of my collection for sales or swaps. Since I was digging around in the back, I’m actually wearing some of my SJP Covet, which I forgot all about (darn squatty bottle!), and which I probably haven’t worn in about 7 years! That just cracks me up. But I am really enjoying the warm, cheerful, sweet green geranium and musk today. It seems to be working better in the cold weather than the warm, as my memory serves me, when I think the musks get kind of amplified. I smell like I’m sitting in some warm, sunny park/garden somewhere, which is exactly where I’d rather be!
I’m making a concerted effort to purge as well. Starting listing stuff on EvilBay over the holidays, and continuing to list a few more things each week (can’t deal with creating more than a few listings in one sitting…) Some weeks sales go well and I’m thrilled, some weeks not so well and I start muttering about EvilBay 🙂 One thing remains true though: my ability to predict what will sell quickly and what won’t is always, always wrong.
That’s the same experience I have. I only try to post a few at a time so I’m not totally chained to the *bay checking for questions, etc. I spent the afternoon photographing bottles, and will start to sort them tonight. I need to warm up with some easy ones, etc. I can never get what will sell right or what people will pay, so I just keep trying.
What are you selling? Maybe we can cut out the middle Bay…
Right now I’m mostly listing the low hanging fruit, but there are a few good ones. If you are interested to know you can reach me at anneroosie at hotmail dot com
The thought if avoiding the ebay charges is certainly compelling!
Likewise… ping me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of gee-mail
Am going to email y’all too.
Speaking of EvilBay, I was out there looking at vintage stuff and see Armani Sensi going for ridiculous prices. Not sure why? But it has inspired me to put my bottle up for sale. 🙂
Today I’m in CB I Hate Perfume’s Wild Hunt — one of my favorites from that line. Love the forest-petrichor accord that’s in so many of his fragrances!
Oh, I love that one and haven’t seen my decant in a while (it does have a designated spot, but isn’t there). Gotta go see if I can locate it in a suitcase or someplace. Thanks for the reminder!
I have today off so I’m chose Coromandel for it’s coziness. Does anyone else notice that Jimmy Choo smells a bit like a dup for the former? I used to wear JC before I fell down the rabbit hole and I notice a similarity. The Chanel is better quality of course.
I haven’t smelled Coromandel, but really like Jimmy Choo. I’m sorry, I know that’s not a answer to your question.
That’s okay lillyjo. I enjoy reading your comments.
Think I’m coming down with something but staying home while my roommate’s moving stress manifests as bouts of squabbling with her mom ( who came to help her pack) isn’t very restful. Wearing Soivohle Centennial since it doesn’t bother me further
I hope you feel better!
Commando today as I did not want to risk annoying my tattoo artist. You read that right – I got inked! Weeee!!!
Cool! What did you get? I think I remember you posting it before, but I can’t remember what it was.
David Bowie’s signature lightning bolt, like as painted on his face on the Aladdin Sane album cover. My first tattoo and I’m so very pleased!
Very Cool.
That sounds really cool! They can be kind of addictive… I haven’t gotten a new one in several years, but I’ve been kind of itching for it.
Happy MLK Day to everyone! I am so happy that we were off today. The last couple of Mondays have been rough since the holidays have ended. My SOTD is Chloe. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon and wanted something soft and pretty and not too overpowering. This fit the bill.
I started with Mona di Orio Carnation, which is quirky comforting, but a sample I’ll be unlikely/unable to replace when it’s gone. It also seems almost disappeared about 4 hours in so, all the more chance to try something new.
I love carnation. There is one from Dawn Spencer Hurwitz that I’ve tested and really like, but right now the name escapes me…
Oeillets Rouges? That is my favorite DSH carnation, but I think there are a couple others as well…
YES! 😉 Who needs a good memory when you have smart friends!
Mona d’s is not of the flower, part of its quirks, I guess? But rather about the bloom of the skin or some such. I also like a carnation, I’ve tried the fleeting CdG once, but it’s one of those flowers I’ve generally enjoyed on the person sitting next to me.
I’m working today and decided to go with Kenzo Flower.
I like Kenzo Flower, but wish they would put out a Kenzo Flower Power Intense version! LOL!
LOL I could go for that. I think there was an Indian Holi flanker (or was that Amour.. can’t remember).. what I do remember is that it smelled like hot plastic on me.
I didn’t read any posts yet but I scrolled through looking at names. I was looking for one in particular and I don’t seem to see any post from Lovestosmellgood. I wonder if today’s the day…
I’m trying a sample of Outageously Vibrant and it’s neither outrageous nor vibrant on me but a reasonably pleasant rose with a juicy, cassis top note. It is totally wrong for the bitter cold weather today but the Cuirelle I was wearing is long gone. I think after supper I need to find a more cuddly scent to warm me up.
Good question. I hope it is!
I had the same thought…hope it’s all going well
Ditto about Lovestosmellgood!
The first thing I did when I had a free minute today was come here and search for her name. I hope we get some good news soon!
Today I am in Poland where the temperature is -5degC and falling. SOTD is Serge Lutens Chêne, which I am enjoying. Another 2ml sample from a big selection I got as a Christmas present to myself, inspired by some great NST reviews and comments. :^)
I’ve always wanted to go to Poland. Maybe someday.
Enjoy the Chene.
Wearing vintage Fendi, my signature for most of the late ’80s and early ’90s. Today’s spritz – and you just need one! – is from my last bottle, purchased around 1989-1990. I probably went through 7-8 bottles back then.
Jeez, do I smell good! They just don’t make ’em like this anymore 🙁
There should be a monument erected just for the original Fendi. It stands the test of time.
Wow. I cannot imagine my favourite perfume lasting that long. I usually have to have 2 bottles. One is for using, the other is for admiring.
“Pardon me boys, is that the Chattanooga choo choo?”
Sorry, disregard…..posted in the wrong spot. :-[
SOTE is Memoirs of a Trespasser. Reached for Profumi del Forte By Night White, but it was too flowery for evening. Maybe tomorrow.
Perfect choice for Track 29!
