Happy Wednesday! If you have a free moment, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing
I'm in Comme des Garçons Calamus, from Series 1: Leaves.
Reminder: this Friday, 6/19, wear a fragrance from perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows items from the Craig Green AW15 collection at Comme des Garçons.
It is pouring outside but I am happy because the children are finally getting over their jetlag and did NOT wake me up at 5! Hooray!! SOTD is vintage Vent Vert.
Yay, sleep!! Hope the rest of the day is fantastic despite the rain.
You smell fantastic!
Wearing CB I Hate Perfume Russian Caravan Tea while sipping Mighty Leaf Mountain Spring Jasmine. I’ll never understand why I love jasmine in tea and cocktails, but can’t stand it in perfumes.
The cat seems to have finally caught on that we’re moving this weekend. She’s doing everything that she can to prevent it, mostly by sitting in the boxes I’m trying to pack.
We have a cat that climbs in our suitcases when we’re trying to pack for trips. I’m not sure if she’s trying to prevent us from going or if she wants to come. Good luck with the move!
I think she is actually exploring and dominating new spaces.:) Cats have a thing for boxes.
Ooooo, spoken like a true Cat Whisperer 🙂
I think the jasmine used in tea and cocktails is generally less indolic. Could that have something to do with it?
Ooh, jasmine in a cocktail – that sounds divine! I’m normally a “brown” drinker (bourbon or scotch), but I can appreciate a vodka-based cocktail on occasion. Will have to make a suggestion to my friendly household mixologist.
Aha! I need a friendly household mixologist too.
I could loan you mine 🙂 – he went to UC Santa Cruz and misses that area of the country. And sometimes I miss the peace and quiet of living by myself. Kidding, honey – just kidding! 😉
Drat!
Good luck with the move!
Is Mountain Spring Jasmine a new offering of Mighty Tea Leaf?
My favourite of their green offerings is Organic Spring Jasmine but Orange Dulce is fantastic as well…..
The only upside to moving with cats – free box inspections and always having someone to hold down the pile of packing paper.
Until they start playing with the paper and shredding it!
In perfume, jasmine either offends me or bores me. I love jasmine tea, but I haven’t had any in ages. Good luck with the move.
Hope your move goes smoothly.
I feel similarly about jasmine. I’ve tried several jasmine teas, but wasn’t satisfied with them. I kept trying to find the old two-toned gold tins that used to be so common. Finally today in our Asian import store I found a line in gold & brown boxes – Fooyoo brand. I gambled $7 on it and sure enough it smells (dry, at least) like the same product. Will test tomorrow.
When I was a kid, we drank the inexpensive jasmine tea that came in a yellow tin with gold lettering, I think?
Fun pic!
I am sampling again – today I am testing ELDO Putain des Palaces. What a weird perfume! It started as dirty powdery floral, where I could not recognise a single note (apart from a bit of leather). A couple of hours later I suddenly smell a pretty honey scent and at first I cannot believe it is coming from me. And a little later I am getting occasional wafts of powdery violet fragrance.
That one is weird. I get sweet rose and violet and a very, very dirty leather/musk. I eventually decided I can’t wear it but I’m glad it exists. I’d like to smell it on a man, I think.
Gosh, that sounds fascinating!
Here is that whole collection if anyone wants to see it:
http://shop.doverstreetmarket.com/dsm-selections/craig-green
Reminds me of traditional samurai wear somehow. Those high gathered waistbands look hot and sweaty to me right now, though!
Interesting. Looks kind of androgynous, but with military overtones.
I like that one because it really tells a story but it is a bit weird to wear. Not sure I have the confidence to wear it in public.
SOTD is Rose Volupte
Rose Volupte is gorgeous!
I need to smell this one!
It’s not as rich and ambery as the original Vintage Rose, but it’s a very pretty fruity/jammy rose, similar to La Fille de Berlin.
Oh! I love LFdB!!
SOTD: Fou d’Absinthe (L’Artisan Parfumeur)
Wearing Narciso Rodriguez for Her today. Interesting. I have a small sample, and it is definitely better in the summer. The lily just works for some reason. Still probably won’t buy a bottle, but I actually like it today.
Thanks to hajusuuri and odonata9 for the refreshing summer fragrance suggestions! I got to Sephora last night and though they didn’t have any of the Aqua Allegorias, I did get to try a few of the Atelier Colognes. Wearing my sample of Vetiver Fatal today. This one’s nice. I’m definitely interested in tracking down more of the line.
Ooh, that’s a fancy Sephora! So many of the Atelier Colognes are perfect for summer- I must go through half a bottle of Orange Sanguine every August.
I highly recommend Atelier’s sample sets which you can buy off their site! You can get 23 samples for $30, or a “Best of” set of 8 for $15. Individual 2ml samples are $3. Shipping is free. 🙂
Agreed. That’s how I tried their scents. The samples are great value.
Thank you, Holly! I am off to peruse the site……
🙂
Wow! That’s a good deal! I’m a sample addict, so I’m definitely looking into that. Thanks!
🙂
Wow, that’s an amazing deal. Obviously I just ordered a sample set of all 23!
Oh good, Eleebelle. I hope you find something you love.
Wearing a power fragrance No 19 to up my confidence to bad a$$.
Recent spat yesterday with my supervisor who complained to me about when I go to pump ( I mean milk and not weights) resulted in me educating myself about the laws that protect me from distrcrimination.
Knowledge =power=No 19
More power to you!
You smell great. And I’m proud of you for knowing your rights with regards to breastfeeding.
You are a bad a$$!!!!! And you smell fantastic 🙂
I am frustrated and saddened that this is still an issue for any woman. Good for you for standing up for yourself! It really makes it a better place for all of us.
Sadly, some women hurt the cause. I’ve twice worked with women who have claimed to be taking breaks to pump; one was going out to smoke 2/3s of the time, the other one was just taking plenty of breaks most of which had nothing to do with pumping.
I was involved both times, because I had to cover their desks while they were gone and my work was being affected.
Rock On! You smell great and you have the right attitude!
Wow…really?! Your supervisor objects to you feeding your child? Can’t believe this would be an issue at all. Good for you knowing your rights and standing up for them. And No. 19 is formidable for sure 🙂
All of us women who have squeezed into supply closets, bathroom stalls, the office of the buddy down the hall who’s door has a lock on it…with those dreadful, soul-sucking, noisy, sticky breast pump machines for weeks and months on end….
SALUTE YOU!
(If I wasn’t already wearing a lovely layer of Baiser Vole, I’d apply No. 19 in solidarity.)
Hopefully no one has to use a restroom anymore, since that is illegal!
And God bless the buddies.
I stand with you, lovestosmellgood.
I’m in solidarity with you over here too. Your supervisor is a schmuck and not following the law. You are a total bada$$, and your baby deserves to eat!
Your supervisor better watch out. Or do you have a Stone Age HR dept.?
Hang in there with your bada$$ self!
Thanks all! I appreciate the support!
I think some people don’t think before they speak- and in this case is now in some hot water.
Also- and I wasn’t aware of this- in our state of NY it’s against the law to go 30 minutes passed the time you ar suppose to pump.
And document document document and watch out for signs of retaliation. Good for you to stand up for your rights!
Completely forgot that this week is Bertrand’s week but I hope I will remember on Friday. Today’s fragrance is DK Gold. I don’t wear it much, even though I enjoy it a lot. Such a pretty lily, and I got it for a song on ebay!
SOTD is Rose Kashan again. I have fallen rather hard for it, very quickly … and just in case it’s one of those that will disappear, unsung, into the sunset a mere two years after its release, I ordered a bottle yesterday. Its notes include cardamom, which seems to lend it the same kind of duskiness that cumin adds to the Gucci EDP from 2002, which I also love.
Oh, this sounds very pretty! How would you describe its sillage and presence?
(And I note that it is available in a 90 mL bottle in Europe. I don’t suppose that’s the one you sprung for? :] )
Nobody here at work has commented, so the sillage must be at least somewhat discreet. I notice a fairly close-to-the-body cloud, and it lasted a good 6 or 7 hours on me yesterday, dabbed (rather lavishly) from a 1ml vial. LuckyScent also has the 90ml bottle available, and since that or another dabber vial was all that was available I DID spring. Ah, impulse. Pretty sure I won’t regret it this time. 🙂
SoTD Wazamba! Love, love, love, it. Somehow it makes me feel a little better which is nice because all this humidity in NY results in just one depressingly bad hair day after another.
That is the MOST fun perfume name to say out loud.
Sounds like something a Superhero would say just before he put the villain in his place! 🙂
Or a new Bart Simpson catch-phrase. 🙂
I always hear the character “Animal” from the Muppet’s when I hear the name Wazamba in my head! Drums too.
WAH-ZAM-BA! WAH-ZAM-BA!! WAH-ZAM-BA!!!
Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh
the lion sleeps tonight….
😉
No joke about the bad hair days in the NY humidity! I’ve just invested in some better hair products which are keeping the halo of fuzz under control.
Elisa P. What products? Any suggestions would be helpful!
LOL!!! The halo of frizz/fuzz…yep
Today was one of those: don’t-think-just-spray kind of days and I grabbed Estee Lauder’s Pleasures. It’s nice, but very faint on me. May not last until lunch.
Must be reformulated…the Pleasures I wore in the 90s was a powerhouse.
Maybe so because I sprayed several times this morning.
SL Santal Blanc. It seems simple, so austere and dry, but under that strict façade is something warm and almost seductive. I love it so much.
Orange Blossom by Veritas Inlustrat Perfumes…not soapy at all but rather a sweet, citrusy OB that dries down to subtle woods.
I am hoofing it from my home office on my treadmill at 2MPH, breaking in new hiking boots to prepare for a backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon, while wearing my pajamas and a weighted backpack.
Oh, also wearing a spritz of Box of Eels ’cause I’m Classy like that! 😉
Haha! What a great image 😉
Truly laughing out loud!!!
In college, I prepared/trained for 4 months in Madagascar by “hiking” on the treadmills at the gym. I always felt a little silly, but I know I benefited from the extra fitness!
Oh, and if there’s any chance you don’t have a bug spray you can stand, may I offer an unsolicited recommendation for Liquid Net Insect Repellent? (unaffiliated) It is the only natural repellent I’ve found that does any good–and it doesn’t have the awful scent of DEET products. FWIW 🙂
I don’t know how “natural” it is, but I’ve heard that Avon Skin So Soft is a great DEET-free bug repellent. I haven’t tried it – my husband is a bug magnet, so I just bring him and the bugs leave me alone!
This is true about Skin so Soft. I know a few people who use it.
Fabulous! You smell great 🙂
Thank you, Deva, for today’s smile. 🙂
Yesterday someone mentioned that the new Mugler Les Exceptions don’t get mentioned often, so I’m wearing Oriental Express. This and—surprisingly—Fougère Furieuse were my favorites of the bunch.
That was me!
I like the Fougere!
Gris Clair today.
By the way, I’m assisting my perfume teacher at her lecture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (!) this Friday on scent in the Deccan Era of India, and am so excited. I will probably just be handing out scent strips or ribbons, but it doesn’t matter – I’m delighted to be able to be involved.
Ooh … that is so exciting and I would definitely go if I were in the area!
Agreed! Wish I could hop on a plane and join in!
Oh, that sounds so cool!!!
Too bad I’m not local anymore–sounds fun but I start working Fri
Hooray for starting work! Will be thinking of you on Friday.
Sounds fun! Have a good time. 🙂
I’m local! What are the details for that lecture?
Robin, is it ok for me to share? If not, please feel free to delete.
Details on this lecture can be found on the Met website here:

Thanks!
I’ll be the tall one – please come and say hi!
I’ll add you to the email trail from the tall one 🙂
Of course!
I just want to add that I have already seen the exhibit, and it is marvelous. I’ve been raving about it to everyone I know IRL, so even if you somehow didn’t care about the scent aspect of it, go for the amazing illuminated manuscripts, blinding diamonds, and stunning textiles.
Had to google Deccan era and region….what fun! Beautiful art as well!!
Can’t wait till Friday for some Bertrand, taking the new Penhaligon’s Ostara for a spin and finding it the loveliest narcissus I’ve come across. So many of them can wear you out early on, but this may just be perfect.
I really need to try Ostara it sounds really pretty..
That is a really pretty one.
I’m wearing Dame Perfumery’s Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood.
I love that one. It reminds me a bit of Lipstick Rose.
SOTD is Maria Candida Gentile’s Hanbury. Second time this week, Sample Sea be damned! I have just discovered that Twisted Lily carries 15 ml bottles of her stuff! I’m ecstatic! 😀
As does Parfum1, their online sister shop. Which if you suscribe currently has 20%off for Fathers Day……. 😉
Oh, thank you perthgirl! 🙂
I’m wearing TDC Aurore Nomade by a certain Bertrand D. it’s supposed to be tropical, but all those spices combine on me in a way that I end up with a really strong coniferous smell. So I get this incongruous image of pirates drinking rum and possibly eating caramelized bananas in an Estonian pine forest. I like it, though.
Hahaha! Thanks for that great image. Truly LOL! 🙂
I’m going to have to see if I have that one. I know there are a bunch of untried TDC samples ’round here somewhere.
Nomads lost in the lands of the Aurora Borealis? Is that the idea? It sounds like fun to me….
Maybe descendants of Pippi Longstocking’s father.
Since I am off work today, I tried and reviewed La Religieuse and I’m hating it. It’s just generic flowers and laundry musk. No jasmine at all and I love jasmine. I think that getting into the shower and washing this off is a great idea after I hit reply.
I think that either Theorema or Bal will get that horrid stink out of my nose.
SOTD is Ninfeo Mio. It’s still pretty warm here, which makese want bracing and verdant fragrances.
That’s one that I plan on bringing with me to the muggy East Coast next month!
Still haven’t tried NM, though I’ve been wanting to forever. Is this fig note really prominent, or is it more of green, herbal scent?
I get a creamy fig throughout on this one. With a sparkling citrus in the top notes.
Mmm! Sounds perfect, love fig and citrus! I’ll have to get a sample soon. Thanks!
SOTD L’Heure Bleue, again. I’m a broken record. But a nice-smelling one!
A nice smelling one indeed!! L’Heure Bleue is beautiful!
Indeed, on being nice smelling. I really want to get a bottle of that.
Maybe it’s the suggestion of the name, but I wear it a lot in the evening, even in the heat. It is a beautiful fragrance.
Scent twins today!
I’m wearing Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint today. It is so hot today — already 86 degrees, and not even lunchtime yet
Also in a jasmine, albeit the one from Yves Rocher. Recently tried the jasmine by Keiko Mecheri and it was very pretty.
Ah, I absolutely love JM’s White Jasmine and Mint. I like wearing it in the winter time for some odd reason. It tends to last all day as well. Great choice!
SOTD Cristalle edp!
You smell lovely and elegant.
Thank you! It really is my fav summer frag.
Almost wore that one today, but went with another Chanel. Cristalle is a fabulous scent. You smell fantastic!
31 Rue Cambon today, and feel like a million bucks
You also smell like a million bucks. Metaphorically speaking, of course 🙂
SOTD is Eau Claire des Merveilles as I (very) impatiently await a new bunch of samples.
SOTD Tauer Sotto la Luna Gardenia which by the time I decide I’ll commit to a FB will probably be unavailable. But it’s such a happy scent.
Took a sample plunge with Cloon Keen Tulum this morning. OMG, super mango! Reminds me a bit of one of the Capri Blue candles at Anthro but less fruit punch sweet.
I’m sampling like mad, ahead of a Big Purge.
I smell…interesting.
Alien was perhaps not the best mix to add to all the BWFs I’ve got dabbed everywhere!
Soon you will be attacked by a horde of butterflies and bees looking for their flower!
I WAS! It didn’t even occur to me that it was my perfume.
Not attacked, but certainly paid attention to, more than usual… how funny.
SOTD = LOTV combo, late Diorissimo ETD sprayed on hair and linen shirt + Muguet Fleuri from a sample dabbed on my pulse points. Working very nicely. My new office is great! I love being able to shut the door. The walls are stark white, however. I need to bring in some art.
EDT – dyslexia strikes again…please read what I mean, not what I type!
I actually had to read it again to even notice! 🙂
Chilly, gloomy and rainy here today. I’m not even going to try to brighten up the day with citrus, greens, or flowers. I’m heading straight for the soothing comfort of a soft blanket, Dame Perfumery Black Flower Mexican Vanilla. Didn’t think I’d wear this until the fall, but it called to me today.
Ive had a busy perfume day today:
Box of Eels for an appt this morning, then Dzongkha for Bertrand week to the movies this evening, and because I find myself wanting to wear fresh summer scents this winter for some reason. Continuing this theme at bedtime im now wearing Absinth by Nasomatto. I love this stuff- green with a hint of sweetness 🙂
I’ve been resisting buying a bottle for over a year now. May as well cave….next trip to NOLA.
I am washing the living room ceiling today in preparation for paint and wearing lots of L’Heure Bleue. In addition to smelling wonderful, I hold the (idiosyncratic and somewhat idiotic) belief that this magical potion can prevent the neck strain that occurs while standing on a ladder, wiping wet rags on the ceiling. Wish me luck!
Ooh, bless you that job can be a killer. I slept wrong and awoke with a stiff neck so I’ll wish you extra luck. Can’t turn my head at all and keep spooking the kittens when I spin around to see what they’re into.
Oh no! I hope you’re feeling better. I lasted all of 45 minutes before my neck felt like it had been cricked enough for one day.
Hi Foxbins, I use my sponge mop that I normally would use on my kitchen floors. I replace the sponge head before I begin washing. Just the mop and a bucket. No ladder needed and much easier on my neck!
Pardon me… I meant Mikasminion
Well actually my suggestion may help both of you. I hope your neck feels better!
What a great idea! I will try that. Thanks!
Thanks! That is actually a great idea.
I can’t take the credit, my husband is a contractor so he is full of these little tips! . Have a great day you two!
SOTD is Fragrance Republic 01/06 (fig, lime, vetiver, sandalwood). Goes well with my Hawaiian shirt. And I appreciate that they offer their scents in 15ml bottles.
What do folks think about ordering perfume on line during the summer? This scent arrived on a hot day — the bottle was warm to the touch when I unpacked it. The scent seems fine, but I’m glad it was not a costly purchase. I am wondering if it is unwise to buy scents that arrive via the mail when it’s hot out….
I worry about that, too and try to avoid it. Luckily, it is cooler this week and cloudy in Arkansas from a front and tropical storm Bill, so I don’t have to worry too hard about my order of Sunshine that I expect to arrive on Friday. Otherwise, I do try to wait until cooler weather, as hard as that can be.
I try to have mine sent to my P.O. box, though some businesses insist on home delivery (via UPS or FedEx). But that made me think, what about old fashioned General Delivery? I think the post office still has it. You have the pkg addressed to your name c/o General Delivery, with any post office’s address. The P.O. varies in how long each will hold it, at their discretion, 2 weeks to 30 days. You just check in (or track it) and pick it up. We use this if we travel for an extended period.
One of my most me scents–Milk of Flowers. Aah…
You smell great!
Good Afternoon All! We experienced some more rain today, but I think that the worst is over! Thank God! Got a late start to my day and finally picked my SOTD. I wanted something different today and went into my sample box. I selected Coromandel by Chanel. I remember I was in NM and at the Chanel counter. I ended up purchasing Cristalle and the SA gave me a bunch of samples. So, Coromandel was one of them. This is such a beautiful and sophisticated fragrances. This fragrance smells like something you would wear to a formal event. Very elegant.
You smell wonderful!!
Cabochard for me. It turns out that one of my most versatile and loved fragrance cost me all of $15.
Doesn’t it feel really weird when that happens?
It always makes me question the wisdom of some of my larger perfume ‘investments’! 😮
Loooooove Cabochard and especially its pricetag!
I decided to finish out my orange blossom run with Reem Acra today. It has been rainy and ick anyway, so it works.
Which did you enjoy most of those three?
Ooh, good question!
SOTD = NVC Bombay Bling
It is a very happy scent and wonderful for today’s not superhot but slightly humid day. This will also work wonders in super-dry heat. It is by Bertrand Duchaufour.
I haven’t smelled that in ages but I bet it was just perfect for today’s weather!
It was and I was on theme early!
Bonus points for being early. 🙂
I got samples recently of the first 3 NVC and loved Mohur and Trayee. Bombay Bling was an odd one, but I think I did like it in the end. Hoping to order the 8 ml discovery set in the fall.
The Discovery Set is great value and that is what I have. Trayee was my favorite. My most favorite NVC is Mohur extrait. I have yet to try Pichola.
Diorling. I think it’s quite the mashup of white floral aldehyde chypre leather, but apparently I “smell very ladylike!” It’s still a mashup though, as I don’t look very ladylike. 🙂
SOD is Moulin Rouge. It seems like people either love or hate this one. It’s love for me.
SOTD was Chanel No. 5 EDP. My birthday is today and it just seemed like a birthday scent. Think I oversprayed a little, as I was sneezing and blowing my nose all morning, but I don’t regret it. My husband is out of town for work and the boys are at Boy Scout camp, so I am having quiet time, which is kind of nice for a change. Hopefully my Amouage Sunshine arrives by Friday (birthday present to myself).
Happy Birthday Sapphire! I over sprayed today too. 🙂
Ugh.. Over-sprayed… I can’t type on a tablet.
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Birthday! It’s OK to overspray – or do whatever you please – on your special day. May the Sunshine bring you sunshine all the year through.
Enjoy your birthday, and the quiet.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Sapphire!
Wore Eau de Celeri today. Spritzed my wrists knowing it’s strong, then spaced and did 3 (sample) sprays on each wrist. Drove 20 miles into Santa Fe with the A/C blasting – across my wrists into my face. Live and learn.
