The judges described this scent in a blind test as elegant, sophisticated and nicely made with a vintage feel. Some panel members, however, found the formula a bit boring and lacking emotion.
— Women's Wear Daily has assembled a panel of experts headed by Michael Edwards to blind-test new perfumes. Above, the verdict on Chanel Misia. Read more (apologies, I am not sure if the article requires a subscription) at The Smell Test: Chanel Misia.
It’s funny to read this. I found Misia elegant, yet cold and somewhat bland. But my mother, a Chanel nut, absolutely loved it because it was so “restrained, yet elegant.” In fact, the cool restraint so inherent in the brand is what made my mom a Chanel fangirl in the first place! I prefer perfumes full of torrid emotion….:-)
I think what I said was that it was not dull, but it was serious — it doesn’t have the humor of Drole de Rose or Lipstick Rose. Which to me is about the same thing 🙂
I don’t think Chanel does torrid emotion, really.
I was just going to post that I think elegant, sophisticated, nicely made with a vintage feel, a bit boring and lacking emotion describes most Chanel perfumes to a T.
Exactly!
I have to agree, but then how did Coromandel sneak in there? 🙂
Oy, NOT Coco!
Coco & Coromandel (both big favorites of mine) are the exception that proves the rule, perhaps? (19 is also a favorite, but falls more on the cool, non emotional scale, I think)
Understated but elegant. It’s my newest favorite. 🙂
“smells nice, with a nice work behind”
That would be my pull-out quote, as well as a nice, all-around compliment. 😉
All these comments about Misia are so interesting. Yes, Chanel has that restrained quality to a lot of their frags and even ones I really love. But we don’t normally think of violet as restrained, right? Whimsical, pretty, sad, wistful, tender etc, but not serious. No one holds a violet bouquet on the way to a business meeting, lol!
