Wednesday scent of the day 2/25

Posted by Robin on 25 February 2015 181 Comments

Tile squares, Hammam at Kerman Iran

What's your fragrance today?

I'm wearing Penhaligon's Elixir, and having a second cup of Irish Breakfast.

Reminder: this Friday, 2/27, is Spicy Friday. How spicy can you go?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Neither will I! It smells just like PS original version, but with just a bit more sweet, soft rose, and a tad more vanilla in the drydown.

I buy Fortnum & Mason when I can get my hands on it, but David’s Tea carries a good, slightly smokier version of it that I also enjoy.
Kusmi carries Lapsang Souchong No.210, but I haven’t tried that one yet.

Hooray! Today it hit the one degree mark this morning…so in keeping with my summer escape theme I am wearing my own invented body butter of extra virgin coconut oil blended with pear isolate e.o. and a few spritzes of Replica’s Beach Walk inspired by yesterday’s conversation of old drugstore favorites (as this one really reminds me of the original Coty Sand and Sables).

For all of you battling the cold weather, stay warm! I will join Robin with another cup of tea :) !!

Neela Vermeire Trayee. I’m not sure this counts as spicy, but it has spice notes, so I’m going with it because it’s gorgeous.

I’ve tried three of the four EDPs in the series, and all of them are stunningly beautiful. If they end up being appropriate year-round, I might end up saving up for one of these. They’re all so pretty, though, that I’m not even sure which one I want. (Of course, I have to wait until I can sample the new one.)

I consider Trayee SPICY. This was what I was going to wear this Friday but changed my mind because I have to dig it out from Mount Sample. I actually have this in the 9 ml (I think that’s the size of the atomizers that came with the coffret of the 3 original perfumes) but. It is small enough for me to me tally tag and physically store it with the samples.

Mount Sample made me smile. My samples are all loosely alphabetized in a box, but the A-H section is completely un-navigable.

Every time I decide on one that I like the most and think I can commit to a full bottle…. I reconsider by retesting her others and fall in love with another one. My husband bought me that three bottle coffret that was available a year ago (it probably still it) of (I think) 10 ms each. When I just checked the bottles they had almost the exact amount left in each…. The one I have tried and did NOT fall in love with was Ashoka… which I ordered as a separate sample from one of the sample companies.

Ashoka’s actually the one I haven’t tried, but I don’t really like fig, so I’m not too tempted. I wish they still had 3-bottle coffrets instead of 4-bottle!

I am wearing vintage Chanel No.5 eau de cologne. I am really blown away by this, this is better than any concentration I have and it also lasts whole day, more long lasting then the extrait. I bought a big bottle at an antique fair years ago.

No, I found out pretty quickly in perfumistahood that I wasn’t the spreadsheet type. I put my perfumes in a Basenotes wardrobe and then use their SOTD feature, which tracks the date I wear stuff, tells me what I wear the most, and breaks it down by month, quarter, and year. So easy!

I’m sampling Nevada by Possets Perfume today. PriscillaE mentioned it a few weeks ago.

It starts off like a spicy orange creamsicle. The vanilla does not last very long. After 15 or 20 minutes, it smells like Celestial Seasonings Mandarin Orange Spice Herbal Tea. I like it.

Glad you’re enjoying the Possets Nevada. I am in the process of trying some of the other “state” scented oils. I just got Washington, which is supposed to be a very apple scent, but haven’t tried it yet. I also had Texas, but it dried up before I could use it. I also have the Arizona one, which is supposed to be sagebrush and honey. That is one of my favorites so far. i just got another order of samples, which I am looking forward to trying. The perfume oils that Possets does last forever on my skin, which is great.

I don’t notice cinnamon, really. Vanilla, then vanilla with flowers, then flowers and a little incense and some amber and more vanilla with the amber in the long haul. This is really very nice. Not flashy, but purposefully done.

Moon Bloom today. I bought my decant to work with me to top-up, as it does fade from my skin, but i can still still my tuberose shirt clearly after 8hrs. I also got a compliment from a guy at work who said my perfume was really nice and that it smelled like jasmine. I guess there isnt a huge difference on the flower scale ( and kudos to the guy for even knowing! Lol)

I like perfumes that are characterized as fresh spicy and usually they are good in summer too. Lately, however, I’v been feeling a bit weak and queasy. Probably because its just SO hot this year. The only scent I’v been able to enjoy for the last few weeks (months?) is either vetiver or citrus. I feel best with a bit of both! This morning I layered Pamplalune with vetiver EO (very nice) and this evening I’v added Sel de Vetiver to my shoulders!

I think the only spicy fragrance I’ve ever managed in summer was CSP L’eau du Gouverneur – primarily citrus, nutmeg, and cedar. It got me through a whole muggy hot week of chaperoning band camp.

I’v not smelled that one! I do like Bois de Filao, but not got round to actually buying it. It has pepper, but probably still doesn’t have a spicy profile!

I used to think CdG Black was nice in summer, and Piguet’s Casbah which has angelica. But lately I have not been able to tolerate this kind…

You might like it given it has the two notes you are looking for…I am not big on vetiver dominant fragrances but I do like this one…it is part of her all natural line-up.

            25 February 2015 at 2:03 pm

The only one I have tried from the natural line-up was cocoa- something. Unfortunately it took on the smell of rancid nuts on my peculiar skin! But yes, this one does sound ideal :)

Have you tried Marine Epice? Dry spices and vetiver, and fairly light – it is an hermessence after all. I love it in the heat. It’s also not sweet and all (which is a big no no when I’m queasy).

I very much want to try this and Vetiver Tonka, but there is no Hermessence in South Africa. When people go to America or England I ask them to get me samples from the Hermes boutiques, but I have not tried these two yet. I have to admit that the Hermessences I have tried tend to dissipate before they make it to my nose. Ambre Narguile is the exception, and it would figure that I don’t like the scent!

Dewing it to the max today! Vintage Youth Dew perfume mixed with unscented moisturizer, then a tiny dab of the vintage cologne on pulse points and then spray the modern formula in the air and walk through the cloud of spicy wonderfulness! I know many people do not care for it but I believe judicious application is the key.

Irish Breakfast is my favorite. Well-chosen.

I went to my first bris this morning, which, while I know it’s a normal event for others, was new for me, and I found it particularly odd choosing a fragrance considering where I was going.

I went with Cuir de Lancome, as that seems to suit everything, all the time.

Sotd: Jardin en Med shower gel + body lotion. It smells great, especially the lotion. The shower gel is one of those extra gentle ones that barely foam and leave your skin feeling slick. I’m sure some people like these gentle formulas but for me (and at the risk of sounding indelicate) they just don’t do the job for certain body parts…

Bet it’s just the combination of things that have accidentally dripped onto the wood over the past few years. All I can do is enjoy.

Actually went into town today so wore Penhaligon’s Bluebell – determined to get this bottle finished so I can move on to 2 other relatively recent purchases! However, will be in Edinburgh this weekend & am aware that Harvey Nichols is stocking AG’s re-released Eau de Ciel, which I wore years ago. I’m also aware it’s been reformulated to some extent, so am interesting in smelling how different it is now to then.

OM goodness…I loved Eau de Ciel! That was my first AG purchase…thought I was buying Eau d’Hadrien when I walked in the store but walked out with Ciel instead….nonetheless I got Hadrien later , along with Folavril, Camille, Charlotte, Sud, Grand Amour, Petit Cherie, etc, etc…needless to say I was a big AG fan in the early 90s…that was my first segue into I guess what is now considered “really old” niche….. (and yet I know nothing about L’Artisan, FM, Diptique ) I would be afraid to try Ciel again if it has been reformulated…..

Eau de Camille was my favourite from AG & I wore it for years – my first AG was it & Ciel, along with which purchase I was given sample vials of Charlotte, Sud, Folavril & a few others. I’m slightly nervous about the reformulation too…
