Diptyque Florabellio ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 6 February 2015 21 Comments

Diptyque Florabellio

Diptyque will launch their latest fragrance, Florabellio, in May.

Florabellio was developed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, and features notes of salty sea spray, sea fennel, apple blossom, osmanthus, roasted coffee and toasted sesame.

Diptyque Florabellio will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

(via diarydirectory)

Update: the description at Diptyque... "An olfactory landscape: in the foreground, invigorating and salty sea spray, it then develops around soft and sensual apple blossom and in the background swirling wafts of roasted coffee with toasted sesame accents." And at Bergdorf Goodman... "Florabellio is an olfactory landscape, a fragment of nostalgia, breaking through the barriers between memories and reality. A glimpse of nature, a path that leads from the woods to the shore. In the foreground, invigorating and salty sea spray mingles with the vegetal bitterness of sea fennel. It then develops around soft and sensual apple blossom on the wings of apricot-scented osmanthus mist. In the background, like an optical illusion, swirling wafts of roasted coffee with toasted sesame accents, foreign yet familiar. A floral trail, blurring the perspectives between land and sea, flower and fruit, softness and bitterness ... the senses are led toward distant coastlines."

It is an odd mix. Maybe the coffee and sesame will help me love the apple and sea spray, who knows….

The sea spray note worries me a bit, but perhaps when combined with the others it won’t be so bad.

The thought of sea spray and coffee is not good, but I appreciate the unique mix of notes. I’ll keep an open mind!

This may be lovely – I like to give Diptyque the benefit of the doubt. But the notes read like the cooler got knocked over while carrying it to the beach blanket.

Speaking of Diptyque, aren’t you the one who likes their Essences Insensées (mimosa)? I received a free sample with Beauty Habit order. I’ve only had it on for 20 minutes, but I am loving it!

Going for a bike ride along the sea front and stopping for a coffee? Not sure where the floral notes come in … I don’t associate apple blossom and osmanthus with anything salty or marine. Hmm … maybe a walled garden cafe by the sea?

Wait, why am I even trying to fit a story on to this anyway ….

I think Persolaise said yesterday on Twitter something about a beach in Normandy? But have not seen “official” backstory stuff anywhere yet.

I did a little research and it looks like they’ve taken their inspiration from Gallo-Roman culture. Abellio was a god of apple trees and may have been a variant of Apollo. The figure on the label is Pomona, a wood nymph associated with fruitful abundance who watches over fruit trees and orchards.

I actually tried this one at Nordies yesterday, my first experience with the line! I mostly got a light coffee. Very light. It was nice, and I was given a sample, so I shall test it some more. It’s blazing in my neck of the woods, so even though it’s an edt, I don’t wanna smell like coffee on a scorching day! Haha! The testing shall have to wait.
