Thursday scent of the day 1/15

Posted by Robin on 15 January 2015 115 Comments

Prada Eyewear campaign

If you've got a free moment, do tell us your fragrance of the day.

I'm wearing Prada Infusion d'Iris, the original version.

Reminder: tomorrow, 1/16, wear a fragrance from Prada or perfumer Daniela Andrier.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Ormonde Woman from my Ormonde discovery set. Feeling more confident than usual today, and thus less in need of my comfort scents, so I’m branching out into this greenness. Quite refreshing on a brisk morning.

It’s quite nice, my first time trying it. It’s kind of sweet and spicy and I think a little bit oudy and leathery at first. It then becomes more spicy and more leathery as it dries down, almost foody spicy. Pity it’s pricey though!

I was going to wear a sample that I got with some gift purchases at Christmas, but now I can’t find them. I decided to go with a Smell Bent that I hadn’t yet worn – The Fall. The Smell Bent website describes this one as “smokey woods + asphalt” and that is essentially it. It reminds me of the way my clothes smell after coming out of a barbecue joint after a long lunch or dinner.

Testing out Petit Fracas. I got complimented on it already. I kind of really enjoy the smell?! I found Fracas overripe and dense, but Petit is so adorable. Happy gardenias and buttery tuberose smeared with loads of pear preserves and dipped in chocolate ganache. Trashy, sugary sweet, yet really comforting.

If it came in smaller bottles than 100 freaking ml, I would grab it without thinking twice. But… I feel like at this price point I should find more sophisticated chocolate coated white flowers, or else find a cheap n cheerful substitute.

I really like Petit Fracas – “happy” is a good descriptor. 3.5 oz for $65 at Fragrancenet. If it’s still about that price during split meet, I’d totally go halves or thirds on it. But yeah, 100 ml, not so much…

I was totally going to wear Prada again today, but after my shower last night I put on Laura Mercier Honey Musk body cream, and the scent was still strong this morning. I didn’t think it would layer well with any of the Prada that I have, so I went with Diptyque Volutes, edt. First time wearing it. I am pleased, it layer wells with the honey musk.

I have an early morning flight tomorrow (ugh) to go see my family (yay!) – I will wear Infusion d’Iris. I wear it often when I fly, so it works out perfect with Prada day.

Also – I love big white sunglasses! Those look so fun :)

I dug out an old sample to re-try: Agent Provocateur Strip. Too bad this is long gone because I do love it, it’s a very pungent geranium with amber and patchouli. Not surprised it got DC’ed, the opening blast is downright medicinal.

Surprised to hear it’s gone- it was still at Saks as recently as this summer, but Fatale seems to be the only one they carry now. I’d take Strip over Fatale any day! (I’d take almost anything over Fatale, actually.)

Today I’m trying Nasomatto Nuda. I read a lot about how strong the opening was, but I didn’t get that. Perhaps my dab wasn’t enough or my dry winter skin sucked it all up. Nonetheless, it’s really quite lovely. It doesn’t feel particularly complex or even necessarily that unique – but every time I catch a whiff of it, it just smells so nice.

Finally getting around to testing Moon Bloom today. Lovely stuff!

I think I’m going to have to skip the challenge tomorrow. Might be the first one I’ve missed (even if I don’t report in, I like doing them), but the only Prada/Andrier frag I’ve got access to is Infusion d’Iris, and I am still very firmly in the white floral rut… enjoying it too much to mess with it.

Anybody else familiar with Moon Bloom? I’m getting the typical no-more-than-2-hours ride that I usually get with all-naturals, and I’m wondering if that’s unusual. I mean, it was a generous dab I put on.

Sampling Tom Ford Santal Blush today. It’s Australian sandalwood and spices with a good dollop of oud. For a while all I smelled was pepper. I added a good spritz of MadHat SantL over the top and now it’s better. SantL has Mysore in it, and added the bit of creaminess I was missing in the TF by itself.

For tomorrow the only Prada’s I have are the Iris and Iris Absolue. I will have to see what I feel like wearing in the a.m. I have been thinking about CdG edp all day today and might wear that instead.

I won a Calvin Klein set that arrived today, so I’m wearing Reveal! Also got the men’s edition, which I don’t think is in stores till next week, but I have to wait until tomorrow for my boyfriend to open it so I can have a sniff :)

Kinda messing around with it. A little spray and all I got was salt and was reminded very strongly of Womanity. A few more sprays a few hours later and I’m really hitting on the iris. It also suddenly seems much sweeter rather than salty. I do enjoy a good shape-shifter so I’ll see how this works out but I’m pretty happy with it so far!

That’s a shame it didn’t smell good on you. It’s a spicy warm incense on me that’s really addicting. I get lots of clove and incense.

I’ve not checked yet, but to be honest I’m not in a position where I should be even looking right now. Have many other things that need my attention financially.

Last week, I started my own fragrace Throwback Thursday where I decide to wear a fragrance that meant something for me at some point of my life.
Last week, I wore Antaeus, my first fragrance purchase ever.
Today, I am wearing Christian Lacroix’s Tumulte, the first fragrance that I ever ordered from a website.

I’m really enjoying this Throwback Thursday as I get to revisit old friends/back rows of my large collection.

I got new samples, so in lieu of a Prada Iris, I am wearing Le Labo 39 as an iris equivalent. Very nice, but I am afraid Scent of Hope and VCA Bois d’Iris are ahead in the running of favorite Iris scent for me.

Also got Seville a l’Aube (sp??), Un Rose du Khandahar and another Oriza L Legrand, Marrion-Nous to try. One Orange blossom, one Rose, and one…other one, selected as much for the bottle as the notes, but on first sniff, it’s a flowery one that doesn’t make me sneeze, so we will see how it is on further acquaintance…

I’m wearing Auric Blends Black Opium and Aphrodesia oils layered together. It’s a nice combo. I actually bought them because I liked how they smelled together.

Taking the new Hiram Green’s Shangri-La for a spin, liking it so far and received a compliment on it already :)

      Thumbs up for compliments!

I need to try that soon, but probably won’t until the BWF craze abates.

Balenciaga Paris today, but getting kind of strange looks at work. I am thinking maybe I put it on too heavy. I like it.

You smell nice! I picked up a 30 ml bottle of this at a discounter recently, figuring I’d eventually use such a small bottle. But its really grown on me, the progression from green to sweet violet (not my favourite stage) to woody and subtle. And I’m surprised at how long-lasting it is; I get a really full day out of it, which I find rare for many of the softer scents.

I may have to give that one another sniff. Smelled it on a blotter today and thought it was too green for my tastes, but sweet violet sounds rather nice.

Working with a cold today, even though I’m still feeling icky. I’ve been out of my class a day and a half, and couldn’t convince myself to be gone another one! Wearing vintage Organza Indecense that I found at an antique store a week back. It is cozy and seems to suit my sleepiness.

Yeah, I’m really enjoying it today! I found a mini bottle in a display at the counter (as I was waiting to buy a mini of L’Heuere Bleue), for like $10. It’s been on my “it would be nice to have” list for some time now.

SOTM was Volnay Brume d’Hiver which I love, but kind of messes with my sinuses a bit. I put L’Artisan L’Eau d’Ambre Extreme on and am just loving it. Trying to convince myself that wasn’t on the Haute Look sale and I missed it!!!

I’m sampling Serge Lutens Cuir Mauresque (dabbed from a 1 ml vial), and loving it so much that I impulse-ordered a bottle (found one slightly discounted online). I can’t figure out if it’s so new that it’s hard to find, or discontinued so it’s hard to find. Anyone know?

The review here is from 2011, so not new. It probably was part of the export line (available in US) at that time, and then back to exclusive (Europe bell jar only). So there probably aren’t many bottles hanging around from when it was export.

From the review “Serge Lutens launched Cuir Mauresque in 1996 as one of its non-export, bell jar “exclusives” (as opposed to the export line in the rectangular bottle). In 2010, Cuir Mauresque (“moorish leather”) joined the export line for a limited edition run.”

    SOTD = Cuir Beluga

I took a sick day today (although I worked part of the time anyway) and I am feeling much better. Cuir Beluga is a fluffy cozy scent and is my default fragrance if I need to make a quick decision as to what to wear.

A sample of Parfum d’empire Corsica Furiosa. I smell like soil and greenery (slightly reminiscent of my puppy who loves digging so we always say that his fragrance is eau de soil) I like it but there is no burning desire to rush out and a buy a bottle so far.

Shalimar Parfum Initial for me today. I enjoyed it. I do wish, however, that they would bring back Shalimar Light. I miss the sweet simplicity of that first flanker.

SOTD is Mauboussin Histoire d’Eau. Lovely, not-too-sweet orange, with a hint of something herbal that I think must be the myrtle, and some light leather underneath that makes me feel like a grown-up.

Went to the mall today to return some makeup I’d bought in the wrong shade, and picked up two Prada samples and one of Bottega Veneta Knot, so I have choices for tomorrow. The Lush finally had some perfume for sale, so I bought a solid of Breath of God. Sun also sounded promising (I do like orange), but was glittery (a plus, I suppose, for some) and had only a brief nice phase before sputtering out. I’ll stick with the Hd’E. Someone here had mentioned that Lush employees are prone to the hard sell, but either Orange County’s notorious apathy is more than a match for their corporate training, or I didn’t look too promising. I even had to wait a while at the register for someone to come and take my money.
