Happy 2015! What fragrance are you wearing to usher in the new year?
I'm wearing Prada Infusion d'Iris Absolue.
Reminder: tomorrow is our quarterly damage poll! It will also be Go Big or Go Home Friday...and you can interpret that howsoever you please.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy New Year everyone!Frederic Malle L’eau d’Hiver is my SOTD!I longed for something soft and contemplative. It seems perfect for today!
And to you! Wishing everyone peace, happiness & prosperity in 2015 🙂
Such a lovely one…
I wore that yesterday!
Something warm and cozy on a chilly New Year’s Day (we’ve been locked in an ice vault for DAYS now): Demeter Brownie. Completely convincing at first spritz, then it goes synthetic, but I still like it.
I like that one too 🙂
Robin, have we had a Guilty Pleasure day yet? I have a few i need a good reason to confess to wearing 😉
Today is one of them- Versace Crystal Noir edp from about 10years ago.. I used to work in nightclubs and this and D&G classic were great clubbing frags. This is very potent and quite fun in its plastic Donatella tropical floriental way 🙂
Ha…we’ve done guilty pleasures polls but not yet a guilty pleasures Friday. It’s on my list though!
SOTD Tableau des Parfums Ingrid. I got this as an extra sample from …I’m not sure, actually. It starts off strong, and after several hours is now a sort of sweet incense on my wrist, which is soothing and pleasant. But I think I saw it being heavily discounted somewhere. I think they may be discontinuing it.
Happy New Year to you all! I’m wearing Diorella extrait de parfum. It’s gorgeous. I haven’t got much left but after that Thérèse will stand in it’s place quite happily.
Yum, you smell great!
In honor of the Rose Parade I’m wearing Demeter’s Pruning Shears, one of my favorite roses.
Oh, that’s a good one.
Thanks to the previous comments I’ve remembered that I had a bottle of Demeter’s Prune stashed in the guest bathroom here at Mom’s. I keep meaning to move it to a better storage spot but it just seems to live there. I forget how wearable this scent is and it’s just perfect for the drippy, foggy, cold hike we’re about to take (assuming my smeller doesn’t clog up once I step outside into the mountain cedar pollen).
Happy New Year everyone! It’s finally cold here in Houston and I love it.
Today I’m wearing Jour d’Hermes, fresh and light. I’m almost done with my bottle and I might replace it with the Absolu. I’m not sure the absolu is as unisex though.
For my two cents, I would love to smell Jour Absolu on any/everyone!
Coumarin,
I am enjoying the weather we are having also. It’s about time things cooled down. But I know that other fellow Houstonians would beg to differ. 🙂
Hermessence Vetiver Tonka for me today
All best wishes to NST team ,
Happy New Year everyone
hope you all enjoy a wonderfully fragrant 2015!
Happy New Year everyone! I’m wearing Do Son edp, which I luckily received for Christmas. I’m not sure if anyone would consider it a winter scent but I absolutely adore it and will happily wear it year round! 🙂
I went with Eau D’Italie’s Sienne L’Hiver. Perfect for a blustery New Year’s Day.
I thought about Baume du Doge but it has an almost Christmassy undertone that I wanted to leave behind.
Although getting to the end of my Eau D’Italie samples I think I will just replace my Paestum Rose rather than anything new.
Happy 2015 and hello, all! Long-time lurker piping up. ^_^ I used to comment around here a few years ago but couldn’t recall what my password was… or my username… or the email I had used, for that matter.
I’m not wearing any perfume today. I’m dying my hair with henna this morning. I offset the damp earth/barnyard hay smell slightly with some spices and neroli oil, but I’m going to smell a bit wild and weird for two days at least.
Welcome, and glad to see you de-lurking (again) — perfect day for it!
Happy New Year to Robin, Angela, Kevin, Jessica, Erin and everybody reading!!!!! Woohooo!!!!
I’m not wearing a proper scent, just some The Body Shop miracle monoi oil in my hair and the scent is pretty strong. Have a fabulous day everybody!!
Since my New Year’s perfume resolution is to end the year with fewer untried samples than I begin the year with, I am now sampling Lys Noir from Isabey. So far it is a lily that behaves on me and I like it. This is the only bottle that I’ve ever experienced bottle lust for but I’m trying to make sure that I love the perfume too.
That was bothering my eyes so I washed it off and am now in the never-fail Amun Re: The Tears of Ra from Soivohle
I’ve never smelled Lys Noir, but I do covet the bottle — one of the few that has ever made my “want” list. Sorry to hear that the juice itself bothers you, though.
That bottle is so perfect!
Bummer that the juice is irritating – any chance of finding the empty bottle somewhere or other?
Empty bottles don’t do anything for me. Lilies and I frequently don’t get along 🙁
Love the bottle!Plan a retest tomorrow! The Isabeys are actually quite good!
You smell fantastic Robin, and you’re my sister in l’eau, I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Homme with a dab or Prada L’Eau Ambree
🙂
Happy Fresh Start Day (as my sister calls it)!
I’m wearing Ava Luxe’s Venezia for no other reason than it’s so pretty.
Happy 2015! I’m wearing Sycomore. It’s sunny and cold here in Chicagoland and I’m looking forward to an afternoon of knitting.
Just curious: are there any other perfumista Ravelers?
Not a knitter, but a cross stitcher. I also design CS patterns. Ravelry is a great site for all kinds of stitchers, isn’t it?
Not sure cross-stitching is included – you might take a look…
What will you be knitting this afternoon?
Based on the NST post at https://nstperfume.com/2014/02/22/lazy-weekend-poll-open-thread-late-february-2014/, Jonette and Poodle are on Ravelry. Go to that link and search the page by the key work “Ravelry.” To do a find, press CTRL and F keys at the same time. I joined Ravelry based on Jonette’s suggestion 🙂
I haven’t posted any projects, but it’s a nice resource for patterns and asking for help. I read some of the forums sometimes, as well. I love the fact that, when you join, they ask you to provide your favorite curse word!
I crochet, with an occasional knitting project. I rarely do anything complicated or that has a very long and ever-changing pattern, because that is more stressful for me. Crocheting and knitting are meditative for me, and having to refer to a pattern at the end of every row or round stresses me out 🙂
I also embroider and hand-sew little tchotchkes out of felt.
I’ll be finishing a vest – maybe 2 – that I’ve knit for my husband. Need to do one more armhole border on one that I started in 2012 (Shetland wool) and neck and armhole borders on one I started last summer (much larger gauge).
(Thanks for the clues, Kindcrow. I will search and see about NST Ravelers…)
I like complicated, fiddly things – and love color. Luckily, my husband does, too. I do love a good auto-pilot knit, too.
I always check out patterns I’m thinking of making to see if anyone has advice or has had trouble, etc.
Anyone who sees my yarn stash knows that I love color 🙂 I love seeing the work of those who love to work on complicated and fiddly patterns 🙂
My Ravelry handle is Mitten3…
Thanks, nancyg! Your work is beautiful!
I’m with you on the whole “consult pattern every row” thing. I like it to be relaxing.
Although I used to cross-stitch a lot, and of course THAT is totally pattern-driven. Can’t do it now, though, holding the needle makes my hands go numb. (Now, what to do with all those unfinished projects in my sewing closet??)
I’m so sorry about the numbness. It’s so hard to give up something one enjoys.
I stopped crocheting for a few years because it caused pain and numbness in the tips of my fingers. I was able to start again when I discovered (yay, internet!) how to wrap/cushion the hook. I think that gripping the uncushioned hook did permanent nerve damage, though 🙁
I now have some ergonomic hooks (by The Crochet Dude) which help a GREAT deal.
They’re still not making ginormous padded cross-stitch needles, though. 🙁 Ah well.
I love to knit! I am just gearing up to start a major (for me) project -a turtleneck sweater with a Fair Isle many colored yoke…I’ve been procrastinating about doing the gauge swatch…it’s cool to findicate knitting perfumistas here! (Stupid spell check changed perfumistas into perfume taste, but I caught it…)
But I see I did not catch findicate. Good lord. I don’t know why it put that in there for find. LOL
Haha I didn’t even notice – I just read it as find!
Findicate is the new word for 2015!
Before I saw your correct yourself, I thought that you were using some new and hip portmanteau word.
find + indicate = findicate
Our friends came up with “blahstruck,” which is the opposite of “awestruck.”
Gauge swatch – such a pain. Maybe start with a sleeve and use it as your gauge tester. I find that the stress of working a gauge swatch gives me unreliable results…
Yep! I’m also a knitter/crocheter, though I have to admit the time I could be spending on that has now been taken over by my burgeoning perfume obsession! For a while I even had an etsy store. I might start it up again when the babe gets a little older and I have a bit more free time again. Cheers!
An Etsy store! How did that work for you? Did you sell much?
I think maybe 12 items or so? It was never a big store though, haha. i probably only ever had 5 items for sale. The store was called sunmidesigns if you want to see a couple of the sales. It’s just hard because the market is so saturated you’re lucky if anyone sees your stuff unless you pay for placement. Also I strived to use mostly natural fibers, which made the cost per scarf really high. I basically sold at no profit (or maybe 20 bucks for weeks of work) and even so the scarves were quite expensive. So in that way it was hard to compete. It was fun though, it’s always nice to know someone out there is interested in the stuff your doing!
You’re, rather.
Lots of creativity amongst the perfumistas I see!Enjoy your crafty afternoon!
Yeah, I check out Ravelry from time to time, but don’t post much. I knit a LOT: the months before Christmas were spent making socks for one co-worker’s young sons and another’s less young grandsons, as well as a wee baby hoodie and other useful new-mom items for a co-worker whose baby was supposed to drop on December 25th but showed up six weeks early (infants — so inconsiderate). Now that that havoc has subsided, I’m gonna start on another pair or two of gloves, my most favourite thing to knit (I have at least fifteen pairs but you can never have enough).
Hey! My first post, and we’re scent siblings today (I’m in No. 22 edp) as well as Ravellers. I’m working on socks right now, and I have a qiviut shawl lined up next.
Oh, I LOVE muskoxen! We saw wild ones on a trip to Alaska. I’m embroidering a musk ox now as a gift for my husband. I should get a sample of qiviut to include with his gift.
We have a friend who, when he was in Alaska, found a small tuft of musk ox wool stuck to a bush. They confiscated it at the airport 🙁
Do let us know when you’ve begun the qiviut shawl, Kindcrow…
Actually, it’s Bexca who is planning a qiviut shawl. I look forward to seeing it!
Ooh, me!
Crochet, though. Never learned to knit; both grandmothers crocheted. I still need to take a picture of the Minion hat I made for Bookworm, because it is TOTES ADORBS. Really.
I’m in awe of people who knit socks.
What’s your Ravelry name, Mals?
malsnano86… not too hard to find me. I’m going to go hunt up Bookworm and get her to model the Minion hat (we’ve named him Bob) for a photoshoot!
Yes, you must take picture of it!
A sock is just a long, narrow hat with a bend in it. I bet you could do it!
My Ravelry name is Kindcrow.
Happy New Year to all!
I am wearing Eau de Redeye With Three Hour Layover. It’s pretty animalic, if you catch my drift 😉
Once we reach destination and shower, it’ll be something more civilized. I packed a couple travel sprays, so we shall see.
Ha! That “perfume” is usually a scrubber me 🙂
Happy New Year! I’m starting my year out with one of my queens, Chanel Coco. She’s also one of my comfort scents, and I need that after the party my teenagers had at the house last night for New Year’s Eve, lol
Have a blessed year everyone!
I too am in Chanel, but working on that vintage No. 5.
excellent choice!!
Traversée du bosphore still lingering on my shirt is my current SOTD. After I clean I will desire something else though, and this is the perfect day to try an untested beauty from my sample tray.
This has been a wonderful most welcoming community, I hope all of you find happiness, beauty, balance and peace in the days to come!
Retesting Piguet’s Gardenia–the opening is delightful. Will have to compare against Fracas sometime.
I really need to try that. I think I managed to get a sample, but where did it go??
It was really toploaded–didn’t care for the tenacious, chemically drydown.
Happy 2015 to everyone! I’m wearing Nuit de Tubereuse by L`Artisan 🙂
Yay glad I’m not the only one sporting tuberose in the winter! On a side note, my phone apparently didn’t know the word tuberose so I was almost sporting tuberculosis in the winter…
Sometimes I get to craving tuberose in January. I know there were a couple of years in a row I did that, and it might be another one of those years!
It just feels so sunny and warm!
Hey, no worries. I wore my Tuberose Angelica perfume yesterday. As others here have shared, you can wear whatever scent / note you want anytime of the year. Whatever you feel is right for you. Enjoy that tuberose……you smell great!
Happy New Year everybody! Today I’m wearing Lolita Lempicka Eau de Minuit because it is a sweet and cozy fragrance, just like my purple fleece robe 🙂
New Year blessings to all, cold and snowing here in the mountains and Mona’s Oud is my choice today. Seriously, it is killing me it is so gorgeous.
I adore that one. I have a mini of it and am parceling it out drop by drop as it is prohibitively expensive.
You smell great!
Happy New Years everyone! I am wearing a familiar fragrance today. My SOTD is Blackberry and Bay. It is a pleasant scent. I needed pleasant today to brave the crowd at the Dillards sale today? Did anyone have any luck there with the fragrance section? By the time I got in, they were already wiped out. The only discounted fragrance that was left was Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door. I didn’t want to buy it just to say I bought a fragrance, so I passed. I lucked out with some nice outfits, though. Since it was total chaos, I doubt that I will be participating next year.
Dillard’s had a perfume sale?
Every New Years Day, they have a huge sale where you take an additional 50% off of reduced merchandise. This includes a lot of their boxed holiday sets they have left over. But, the crowds are ridiculous! The early bird definitely catches the worm first. I had friends that was in line at 6a.m. this morning and still missed out.
My daughter and I went last year and it was so stressful that we said we wouldn’t do it this year. We witnessed several actual fights before the doors even opened, then it was just a madhouse once we got in. I have to admit our resolve weakened, and we did go this year, but only after it had been in progress five hours. The shoe department looked like locust had moved through it….and it was STILL packed and there was nothing left in our sizes. Our new plan for 2016? We will go at 11:00. Hoping to miss the first crush, but still find things to buy. We did get perfume last year, but this year there was nothing left. We liked the sale better before it got to be “a thing”.
Well, like you said, it was chaos this year as well. It seems like ever since they went “public” with this sale, it has become a nightmare. I asked the sales associate if the same sale was online and she said it was but you won’t necessarily see the same items from the store online. By the time I got home and went online, there was only 1 fragrance left. I wasn’t familiar with it but remember it was marked down from $95 to $30. Didn’t want to take a chance on that “blind buy”.
Oh and by the way, there were fights down here in Houston as well. It was scary!
SOTD is La Maison de la Vanille Vanille Noir du Mexique layered over a dry cocoa lotion. Earthy, darkly sweet, patchouli – wonderfully warm and comforting on. sunny, cold winter day.. Happy New Year to all!
I’m wearing Shalimar from New Year’s Eve. I had planned to wear something else, but I wanted something French, and LT compares Shalimar to “catching a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower lit up for New Year’s.”
Happy 2015, everyone!
Hello SweetSmelling sisters and brothers. Thanks, all, for a fabulous enrichment to 2104! Have not been commenting much lately, due to too much work, lots of (work) travel, then sadness (lost my beloved kitty this week – came back from travels and she was frail and just a little string of fur, then she just deteriorated by the day). I was on a Malle experiment today to usher in a better year: Musc Ravageur, Lisptick Rose and Carnal Flower – three classics, not quite layered, but applied over a languid afternoon reading about the Malle aesthetic and philosophy. My nose kept going back to the body parts that had Carnal Flower! Such a beauty of both dirty and clean white flowers!
So sorry about your kitty. Hope this year goes better. Hugs.
So sorry to hear about your kitty cat — obviously a much-loved member of the family…
I am very sorry about your cat 🙁 I am glad you were able to be there with her at the end though.
So very sorry to hear about your beloved kitty. That’s the worst. 🙁
I went for the other spectrum in the Malle range,L’Eau d’Hiver, today. What I LOVE about Malle,is there is something for everybody in his line-up.I love most of them, and you can go quiet(like d’Hiver) or over the top:Portrait of a Lady(my favorite of them all),or Carnal Flower!Sorry about your loss!Happy New Year!
Oh no, so sorry 🙁
So sad to lose a precious fur friend.
So sorry for your loss. I’m glad she held on until you returned from traveling so you could be with her.
Sorry to hear about your cat.
My sincere condolences for your loss. 🙁
Condolences on the loss of your beloved kitty. I lost mine last Christmas.
Sorry to hear you lost your kitty.
Oh, so sad to hear about your loss. It is very hard to lose a four-footed friend. Hugs.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your friend.
So sorry about your sweet kitty. Sending hugs your way.
Thanks so much everyone, for the comforting wishes.
Happy New Year! May you have warmth, joy, love and prosperity in this year!
We have another cold, sparkling day here in the Portland Metro area. My guy had to work today (no tears, he will be making $500 today) but he is wearing my Cuir de Russie to his job (he’s a plumber!) and I am wearing Jour de Hermes, which just seems perfect for today!
Brunch with friends. We will have cilbir, saffron rice with almonds, greens and beans (but of course) and plenty of hot mint black tea. Champagne will wait until the weekend.
I love that 1 can wear ANY perfume ANYTIME and ANYWHERE!Some might reserve Cuir de Russie for a night at the Bolshoi,I say go fix that plumbing, and smell fantastic while you’re at it!
Exactly! I love the thought of a man wearing Cuir de Russie while fixing plumbing. Ede97005, you both smell great!
SOTD is another one for much needed comfort–Mazzolari Allesandro. My 8ml decant is very nearly empty, but I noticed on Lucky Scent that it’s recently come down in price even though it’s on backorder. So I can get a new and full bottle for barely a few dollars more than the used bottle I was eyeing on Evilbay. Yay!
Mr. Ab. Scent bought me more Cashmere Mist as a gift without knowing I still have half a bottle, so he said if I wanted a bottle of MA, he’d return the CM and I could get my bottle of honey and almond powder goodness instead. So excited!
The house guests are leaving Sunday morning. The last couple days always seem like the most difficult, and I’ve got another cold to top it off. So I’m going to leave them to their devices for a couple hours, sip some hot tea in my room with a good book and then likely take a nap while the baby naps and the older kids are lost in their Nintendo DS’s.
Here’s to a brief bit of paradise, spicy tea, fluffy almond perfume and peace and quiet to start off the new year.
Ugh, get better!
Fluffy almond perfume and a cup of spicy tea sounds divine! I’ve been sniffing around for an almond-scented fix, and I don’t think I’ve heard of Mazzolari Allesandro! Maybe I’ll add a sample to my next order of decants…
Oh, and feel better soon!
Feel better soon, wishing you joyful peace and quiet!
Happy New Year to all.
SOTD = Guerlain SDV
I’m off to have a late lunch / early dinner with friends at a Chinese restaurant.
The stuff purging is still going on and I have another 130 books going to the library; with this plus the 300 books from the past week, I’ve basically donated about 75% of my collection. DVDs and CDs are nexf on the docket but the numbers will pale by comparison to the books.
So brave. Books are the thing I have a hard time getting rid of! But I know it feels good paring down.
Oh, I was just thinking the other day I need to lighten my book load….
So well put. The sheer heft is really the thing that gets to me about my book collection!! Unfortunately I really have not taken to e-reading though. It’s a dilemma.
Gosh, I’ve been doing the same thing, but it’s killing me. I easily part with the ones that I didn’t care for, but I find it hard to part with the ones I enjoyed. At my hubby’s request, though, I’ve been taking three boxes a week to the library. They resell them, so at least I feel like something good is happening. Definitely a Mitsouko-wearing activity for me–sad.
SOTD is Natori from my decant. ihadanidea’s mention of it made me want to wear it, and Robin’s comment that it is discontinued caused that flash of panic that is familiar to so many of us. An fb is in order (as long as ihadanidea hasn’t beaten me to them all!).
Happy 2015!
I picked up a bottle at my local Perfumania for $20 back in Sept
Just snagged a bottle online! Yes!!
Happy New Year’s Day everyone! And many thanks for a great year of nst laughs, insights, ideas, enablings, swaps, freebies, support and fun.
Today I wore PHI and now thinking of switching to something warm n cozy. Maybe some Patchouli Antique. I can’t remember who commented yesterday about layering PA with Royal Opopomax, but that comment inspired me!
We are scent twins today 🙂
Happy 2015 to everyone! Right now I have some Mary Greenwell Plum on and am enjoying it.
Plum!
Happy 2015 to All!
I started the new year on a good note by doing a 90 minute spin to try to off-set all the Christmas cookies I have eaten- Great workout and there was a lake of sweat under my bike by the time I was done, which was gross but very satisfying.
After the much needed shower, two glorious spritzes of PHI- My first true love. Then I too braved the local mall to do a return and decided to offset my spin by eating a very unnecessary Dairy Queen chocolate cone with a double chocolate dip! Ha! So much for starting off the year on a good note…
Hope everyone had a safe and happy celebration last night and that you all are luxuriating in your favorite fumes right now 🙂
Best wishes to all and hope all your perfume acquisitions in 2015 are successful.
Lake of Sweat. Sounds like the name of a metal band.
Happy New Year to you all!
Today’s SOTD is my first and still #1 Chanel No 19. It is acting like a palate cleanser for the soul after all these weeks of self-indulgence.
Happy New Year to all!
SOTD is 24 Fauborg. It seemed like a good thing to wear to a friend’s open house, and a relaxed way to start the new year.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I am wearing Amouage Gold Man, the oakmoss-heavy counterpart to Gold Woman. Right now I am smelling of powdery floral notes (lotv, rose, jasmine, iris) and civet. Frankincense and oakmoss beneath.
Fantastic!! GO BIG or GO HOME!!!, indeed. 🙂
My SOTA and E is Ding Ding 5 by Opus Oils. It’s available in both alcohol and fractionated coconut oil. My sample is the oil-based version. The name bugs me, but I like the perfume.
Notes: blood orange, carnations, sandalwood, vanilla, and musk. I smell orange and a sweet, peppery, yet mellow sandalwood … and perhaps the slightest hint of vanilla (not really sure). I don’t detect any carnation. A 1/2 ounce bottle is probably in my future (hooray for small sizes!)
SOTD Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her. After seeing this land on three end of year lists and then finding a bottle at Marshalls for a steal the next day, I gambled on a blind buy. Verdict?…I like it! And, at a brunch today three friends told me separately how good I smell (and considering how many different fragrances I wear, I rarely get compliments).
Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2015!
I just pretty much blew the 2015 perfume budget.
On the first day of the year, no less.
OTOH, it was to buy a big bottle of something I’ve loved and been saving up to buy for at least four years now: Frederic Malle Iris Poudre. I know everybody says there are other things out there that smell “just like Iris Poudre, but cheaper!” – but I disagree. Nothing else I’ve tried (believe me, I’ve tried most of the usual suspects) has come close to that perfect fluffy cozy drydown. I’ve now blown through two 10ml decants and am working on the third, and I’m so pleased I’ve managed to get a bottle of it before the risk of reformulation due to the Estee Lauder purchase.
I mean, I DO feel slightly guilty about it… just think, I paid more for that than I did for my Memoir Woman (which was a tester)… but still. Love the stuff. And I’ve got a birthday coming up, too.
I’ll just have to be cautious with the perfume $$ the rest of the year. Or maybe sell some stuff… like that backup bottle of L’Arte di Gucci edp…
Congrats on your new baby! =)
If you’ve been saving up to buy it for at least four years, then you haven’t really used up most of your 2015 perfume budget. I’m not trying to be funny or to be an enabler.
Shiso by Aftelier.
How is that? I’ve been thinking about trying it…
