Monday scent of the day 12/8

Posted by Robin on 8 December 2014 122 Comments

Dior Homme fashion campaign

It's Monday again, sorry! What's your fragrance today?

I'm wearing Christian Dior Eau Sauvage.

Reminder: this Friday, 12/12, wear something from Christian Dior. On 12/19, we'll do De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

HI Robin, sorry to highjack this post but I wanted to be sure you saw my question – is your blog on some sort of delay? I can see that you put this up and people started posting yesterday at 1030 in the morning, but this post did not appear for me until some time after 2 in the morning today my time, (USA Eastern time – my close big city is Detroit) as I was up in the middle of the night, and I didn’t see this post here then. Basically it has showed up about 15 hours late. I have noticed this the last couple days, but sort of thought I was imagining it.

No, no delay, but could be some sort of caching issue. Whenever you’re not sure, use CTRL+F5 to force a fresh load of the page.

Ah, I will try this of it happens again. It might be my carrier too I guess. When I went back and looked closely there were little batches that came through all at once. Thanks for the quick response. You run a great blog here.

Possibly, but more likely it’s either your browser or my server…either way, the Ctrl+F5 should always get you a fresh page.

            And thank you!

Tea for Two. I did a side by side comparison between my pre-discontinuation bottle and the newly resurrected one I bought from L’Artisan at the beginning of last month. I approached it very scientifically, i.e. 2 sprays of the old stuff on my right arm and 2 sprays of the new on my left. I couldn’t tell any difference. Go L’Artisan!

I am scentless today. Yesterday i revisited my sample of Philosykos. I don’t know what’s changed since I first tried this back in September but man oh man is this stuff beautiful. I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m going to order some Pacifica Mediterranean Fig which should hopefully work as a cheap alternative. Has anybody tried both the liquid and solid forms? Which do you think is more similar to Philoykos?

Inspired by film noir? I’ve been on a big film noir kick lately – I just watched Out Of The Past this weekend. I usually think of how I would imagine the femme fatales smelling – like lush tropical flowers on the edge of decay (gardenia, tuberose, jasmine). But, the men prob smell boozy and a little dirty … this makes me want to try this fragrance but it was only a limited edition, BOO!

That’s my favorite Smell Bent – I wear it a lot in the summer. I love the carnation note. Even “without” the musk (I can’t smell the musk Smell Bent uses) I think it’s a fun, well balanced scent.

For Keep-It-Simple Monday, I chose YR’s Fruits de Noel Orange & Amande Edt and matching b&b products. The orange is bright and sunny; the creaminess of the almond adds a gentle warmth. Perfect for a gloomy Monday with rain/sleet/snow in the forecast.

Very little or no tobacco as far as I can smell…I think I read an interview with the perfumer saying it didn’t really have a tobacco note but that tobacco was jst a nuance of the rose. I love tobacco too, but I wouldn’t look for it here.

Love LdDM and hope it works for you, too. Also, just realizing you have a cool new or newish gravator. Is that espresso? Perfume goes better with caffeine! :-)

Thanks for the compliment on the gravatar! :) It was in fact an espresso, though one that I drank many many years ago. I could have used some caffeine today though – the baby is running me ragged!

I’m in Prada L’eau Ambree layered over one pump of Sahara Noir… I’m finding that SN is a good layering scent if I’m feeling the need for incense.

I am wearing one of my new fragrances today; Wild Fig & Cassis – JM. I love the smell of figs, but this one isn’t overly sweet. It’s a beautiful fragrance to wear. I’d imagine that it is probably considered a summer or spring fragrance, but it suits me just fine in this crisp fall / winter weather we are having.

Trying Wrappings again. Bought a full bottle unsniffed because I got a good price… my husband HATES it… but he is coming home late tonight. I am still trying to make up my mind. I like its assertiveness, and that it genuinely feels “holiday…” and it reminds me a bit of those green and red bath oil balls my mom had when I was a kid… but there is also something cleaning fluidish there… has anyone else tried this one?

Oh, yes, I love this one! It’s my 3-season ‘camping’ fragrance, and when the camping gear is stowed away for the winter, it becomes a favorite Christmas scent for me. But only the tiniest of spritzes is needed, this is heavy-duty stuff (and I am usually a liberal sprayer, only on my skin and usually under several layers of clothes, never on any article of clothing.). Perhaps go a bit lighter on the application – and wear several layers of clothes? ;-)

It’s a cool-but-not-really-cold day today, so I picked Secret Obsession (Calvin Klein). I know this didn’t get a lot of love in the marketplace and went to discount pretty quickly, but I like it. I like it much better than the original Obsession which I was kind of meh about.

I’m wearing Miss Marisa by Ebba. I hadn’t worn this one in a while, and now I’m wondering why I don’t wear it more often…it’s really lovely! A very quirky fragrance that really “speaks” to me.

I’m wearing Aftelier Cuir de Gardenia today. I’ve been wearing my samples all weekend, and I’ve noticed I’ve been getting surprisingly good staying power out of them. I wore Shiso on Saturday and Palimpsest yesterday, and in both cases I could still smell it the next day.

Well I just read a review of Santal Majuscule on iscentyouaday and it completely prompted me to spray it on tonight. It smells really good.

Friday will be interesting. I guess I think of Dior as more for spring and summer, so it would be easier if I were in the southern hemisphere. I’ll probably rely on vintage Miss Dior who will tell me to just buck up. And put on some stockings, high heels and red lipstick for a change, really, how can women expect to be taken seriously when they slump around town in yoga pants and le no makeup. ;-)

Miss Dior would put an end to that! This is the real reason people are afraid of old lady perfume, LOL :-)

Bvlgari Jasmin Noir, with shower gel and body lotion. This went from hate to love for me, and each time i wear it i get something new. On me its a slightly sweet woody frag, today with nuances of anise. Yum.
Then i went to David Jones and sprayed VC&A Bois d’Iris on one arm (its a contender.. still deciding) and California Reverie on the other, then tried some Coco body cream on one hand. Chanel really do their body creams well! Great texture and the scent lasted hours and hours!

I got a sample of VC&A Bois d’Iris, and feel the same way, not quite sure. I expect spraying would make it be fuller and stand out more, but for spraying I have to spring for a big bottle…such a problem. LOL.

    SOTD = MPG Ambre Precieux

My 100 mL sample purchase was a huge success. This reminds me of Cuir Beluga except this one is less sweet and more ambery. I will have to experiment to see if I can wear this in close quarters with fume phobes.

Threw on what was almost the last of my PG Iris Oriental sample as I rushed out of the house. I enjoy it; I wish I felt it was special enough to rate a FB.

I’m wearing a bit of Britney Spears Fantasy The Naughty Remix. Does anyone else think the guys in the ad look like they are on the SNL skit Sprockets?
