What's your fragrance today?
I am 99% recovered from my brief illness, so I'm in fragrance again. Today I'm wearing a dab of Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y. I really like this one but I don't think it took off, did it? I never hear it mentioned.
Reminder: this Friday, 11/28 (Black Friday!) will be Cheap Thrills Friday. Wear something that costs $50 or below, double bonus points if it costs $25 or below. No points for wearing something expensive that you bought cheaply via a sample or decant or somesuch! We're trying to find real bargains here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
There is almost no one in my office today, so I figured I could try out something that I wasn’t so sure about, and it wouldn’t matter whose nose knew it. MPG’s Cuir Fetiche today, and I rather like it. It’s good in this cold rainy weather. And it is not nearly as big a scent as I anticipated with a name like Cuir Fetiche.
How did Annick Goutal work for you?
Glad you are feeling better!
Have a great holiday tomorrow and stay warm.
It’s sleeting and raining here in NYC- Amazing since it was 70 degrees on Monday
We’ve now got some snow cover — not much, but it’s white out there.
Glad you’re in the up! Today I’m trying Fresh Life – looking for a few cheap thrills to put on the Christmas list! I’ll probably also try my sample of Dior Addict Eau Fraiche later today. 🙂
Ugh, on the up…
Thank you either way 🙂
I’m wearing El Attarine today, courtesy of the kind Morgana. I love it. It’s perfect for the season. Doubly so as this year my family is skipping the home cooking and going out for Indian food. Yum.
Yum, I love that one.
One of the best Serge s, in my opinion. Top five for sure.
Going out for Indian food for Thanksgiving (or for any reason, really)? Yes, please!
Coumarin, you are the nicest split partner ever!! And yay for not cooking tomorrow! (we planned to do the same, and the Indian food idea sounds appealing …)
TF Plum Japonais which, surprisingly, reminds me of Egoiste! It’s really nice and spicy, would be good for T-giving.
Ok, that is surprising!
Glad you are feeling better and can enjoy the holiday!
I used Rose Jam shower gel this morning, and decided to keep with the jammy rose theme and put on Rose Flash.
Great mix. I am so enjoying having a bottle of Rose Jam again.
Today is bright and sunny and gorgeous, and I don’t have to work! We usually work until midday but the Doc is out and the new girl and the hygienist can handle the five patients without me so I’m cuddling the cat and sipping tea. I kind of wish the entire neighborhood hadn’t decided to mow lawns this morning.
My allergies are acting up again so I just have a bit of massage oil (frankincense, rose, and cedar wood) rubbed on my arms. I really wish I had written the recipe down when I mixed this one. I was trying to imitate the scent of one of my favorite body balms that has been discontinued and I did a great job.
I’ll probably go with something light and easy again today for real perfume but I haven’t decided yet. Good thing the comfy furniture is gone, I’m sorely tempted to lay on the couch and be a bum. Maybe I’ll join the lawn mowing brigade. The General down the street would appreciate it I know. My eclectic plantings and scruffy lawn must make him positively twitch.
Robin, glad you’re feeling better. I bet I’ll forget to participate Friday as I’ve already lost track of the days. I never sniffed L.I.L.Y. because I just assumed it was blah since it was never mentioned. Odd really, I love Stella.
The sound of leaf blowers in our neck of the woods is quite grating this morning!
I got all excited when my next door neighbor started his mower but so far, it is just sitting there running. We’re on hour two of this so far. I assume there is a reason…maybe he’s trying to run old gas through? Otherwise, he e is the best neighbor ever and always mows for the elderly man on the other side of him, but I usually give up and mow his weeds down along my fence because he Just doesn’t care about his yard.
Oh, and the man who blows off his roof every morning is doing an extra thorough job today too. Nice quiet morning it ain’t.
LILY is in fact pretty low key…but I think very nicely done. Stella is a better scent though.
Hello folks!
Today I’m wearing Intoxicated, from the new Addictive State of Mind collection from By Kilian.
SOTD is Love (Don’t Be Shy), By Kilian
Sorry, meant to post that instead of reply, but I was noticing the Kilian in your post and clicked reply by mistake. BTW, how do you like the Intoxicated? I like this and Light My Fire, but I am still not brave enough to apply Smoke for the Soul to skin just yet…
I just discovered By Kilian yesterday. I was in Saks, and I spent a few minutes by their counter, and came home with a sample of Good Girl Gone Bad. Really nice!
Good girl gone bad is one of my favorites!
I own that and dangerous liaisons
Hi Relleric! No problem with replying instead of hitting a new comment.
I really like Intoxicated, on me it smells like a sweet and milky coffee with warm spices, like those limited Christmas coffees they serve in shops! Light my Fire is beautiful and rich tobacco, too bad that on my skin it quickly becomes weak – Diptyque Volutes or Phaedon Tabac Rouge perform much better.
When it comes to Smoke for the Soul – this is my least favorite one, smells like weed… literally.
I’m not fond of Smoke for the Soul either, but I should probably wait to judge it until after wearing it.
I’ve never tried the Diptyque nor the Phaedon, heard great things about both of them.
I’m 2 days ahead of cheap thrills Friday!Pink Sugar is the SOTD!Lol!Love this cotton-candy confection!Happy Wednesday NST!
Pink Sugar is a great choice!
SOTD: Czech & Speake Dark Rose. I must be on a rose kick, since I wore YSL Paris yesterday
Nice, and never hear that one mentioned.
I remember being really excited for LILY because it had truffle, and I’d never encountered truffle in a fragrance before. When I finally smelled it, I remembering finding it pretty, but didn’t quite understand it (not mushroomy enough, I guess). Now that I’ve smelled other scents with truffle, though, LILY would probably make more sense to me.
I’m wearing Cuir de Russie, and have gotten through the stage I don’t totally like and to the stage I love. Great for a quiet, snowy day at the office.
The truffle was VERY subdued.
Anyone else PreTTSD (Pre Stress Thanksgiving Traumatic Syndrome)? Oh how I am dreading it! We’re off to in laws in AZ this year… I’m trying to think of which of my perfumes are most calming… Anyone have favorite frags for stressful family situations?
Yes! I’m just going to Mom’s and I love all my family but there will still be too many people and I’ll have to either sleep in Mom’s room (she snores like a freight train) on the floor, or on a cot in the garage (yick). This is one of the few times I’m envious of my husband’s bad back which guarantees him the comfy sofa.
I’m taking lots of samples since I’m not sure what I’ll be in the mood for. All of my naturals will be accompanying me since I usually find them calming, as well as my musk heavy stuff and some sheer pretty ones (Wit, in particular, is usually a winner and Amaranthine). You can always wear a good dose of MKK as relative repellent or go with No. 5 or whichever Chanel works as armor for you (most people seem to have one).
Good luck with your visiting!
I’m packing Yerbamate by Lorenzo Villoresi to visit my family. Soothing tea & lavender scent.. Soft and sligtly sweet. Love it.
Next purchase is definetly a decant of this beautiful scent.
It actually helped to be sick because I couldn’t do all the stuff I was going to do in advance. So now lots will just not get done and it will all be ok 🙂
How Etro Shaal Nur, which is beautiful, balanced, versatile and not obtrusive. SSS Tabac Aurea would be good, too, or Amouage Dia or Beloved.
Snowing here so I have on Kalimantan which I only wear on dreary days esp in Nov
It’s grey, cold and blustery here today. Perfect weather for all the baking I will soon be doing!
Also great weather for one of my favorites- SSS Tabac Aurea. Lovely stuff!
Hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving has a wonderful day tomorrow with friends and family.
Good food helps and the icing on the cake is a special scent for the day.
Robin, glad you have recovered 99% and hoping tomorrow you will be 100%!
It looks like a no 5 day or Havana Vanille. But I can’t wait for my vintage no 19 to come so I can test that out.
I’ve never tried Lily although I remember trying their Rose and liking it.
SOTD is Balkis PdN. Lovely and comforting.
Just a quick hello as I’m traveling this week. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you lovely folks that celebrate it and a wonderful rest of the week to those who don’t.
May your blessings be so many it take all day to count them. 🙂
I’m wearing Teo Cabanel Alahine today.
Same to you, Teri! Safe travels!
I am wearing Attache-Moi (by ICONOfly) today.
A Happy and Safe Thanksgiving to All!
SOTD is Tea for Two. Looking forward to a few days off when I can test things I wouldn’t necessarily wear to work!
Someone mentioned Bois de Paradis, so I am wearing it today. First time this fall. Does SOTD work that way with other people too?
I wore that yesterday because someone mentioned wearing it last week. It’s made me wear scents in my collection that I hadn’t worn in a long time.
Yep, y’all influence my choices! (I think the BdP wearer was me!)
Today I put on some Isabey Fleur Norturne. Sometimes I need a floral on a snowy cold day. (Hope this doesn’t post twice – I was having some problems posting earlier this morning.)
Holidays always remind me of why we moved so far away from relatives, lol It is nice to talk to them on the phone and wish everyone well but it is lovely not to be stressed by a crowd. Wearing Malle’s Iris Poudre today as we’re getting some simple but special dishes pre-prepared for our small but very thankful holiday tomorrow.
6 inches of lovely white snow is helping the mood. Hope all who are going ‘over the river and through the woods’ tomorrow will do it safely and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Glad you are starting to feel better, Robin. My SOTD is Santal Blush by Tom Ford.
I got a chuckle reading about lawn mowers and leaf blowers while we have our snow shovel and snow blower ready to go!
A spritz of EL’s Sensuous layered over a honey vanilla lotion to keep me company on this day of cooking. Lots of spices in the kitchen will make the afternoon’s work an enjoyable chore.
That combo sounds great – will have to remember that. I wore Sensuous to bed last night. Good stuff!
Wearing Shalimar today. Define comfort armor.
I kind of cringed when I posted that in case someone thought I was being smug. People here are already complaining about the early cold weather but my St Augustine is still growing. Obviously, I live in the South.
I have snow now but am taking a late flight tomorrow to my parents in FL but not actually packing my cheap thrill that I was thinking of. Hopefully my mom will have something (mooching is the cheapest method of all!)
Me too and in fact, I need to mow the lawn this weekend! Hoping it will be the last time for the season.
Wearing Traversée du Bosphore today and, as always, wondering why I don’t wear it more often. (I own too many bottles, that’s why!! LOL)
A very Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow to all my American friends.
Here in Canada, it will be work as usual. 🙁
I think I’ll wear TdB tomorrow! Same here, I always wonder why I don’t wear it more often.
We had snow for a while, but it was a few degrees two warm for anything to stick. Just as well for travelers, but very dreary. I happened to notice TDC De Bachmakov today and thought, “Why not?” As Robin’s 2010 NST review noted, “It is supposed to evoke the winds of Asia and the sun hitting the forests of Siberia and buds pushing through the snow in the spring.” I remember thinking it smelled exceptionally chilly when I first tried it, but I don’t get that anymore. It’s also a bit spicy: those winds must have passed over the Silk Road, too. Primarily citrus, floral and sap, it doesn’t sound like a fall fragrance, but the underlying spice-wood-chalk notes spin a more veil of scent. Although it seems delicate, it stands up to the dry air of artificial heat. Highly successful impulse buy of a heavily discounted bottle. 🙂
Wearing Lanvin Eclat D’Arpege from a cute little mini. I think it may have gone off, even though it isn’t that old. The apple in it reminds me of Light Blue a bit, which is fine since I still have a bottle of that one too though I never wear it.
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
This is the mother of all Cheap Thrills for me because I wear it often; other cheap thrills don’t get used as much. It is snowy and yucky out and after gassing myself initially, it is now an uber-cozy tea / vanilla.
This is my SOTE too. It’s very easy to wear, so it fits perfectly with my at-home cozy clothes. Will travel to family tomorrow, tonight is all about relaxation.
Basically, an preparing for tomorrow’s post dinner nap 😉
I actually gave another sniff to both Stella and L.I.L.Y when I was in Sephora the other day. I never cared for lily all that much – well made but lily of the valley has never been my favorite note. More tragic still, I think Stella’s been reformulated. I’ll have to dig out my sample to confirm, but they changed the bottle too, so… 🙁
No SOTD yet, I’m going to the mall later and will undoubtedly sample something while I’m there.
WFH 1/2 day for me. Just finished up my reports. It’s cold and wet here. We had some snow earlier and the loudest thundersnow I’d ever heard! I even saw the flash from the lightning outside my window. Hopefully the majority of the snow stays away so the fiance and I can get to his parent’s house for t-giving tomorrow.
Wearing Opus I today. Kinda wishing I’d put on something else though. It’s not really doing it for me with this kind of weather. I need something a bit more cozy.
Today I’m just wearing a dab of Divine L’Homme Sage on a wrist and reminding myself why Mr. Ab. Scent is getting another 100ml bottle under the tree. We simply can’t be without this stuff. Which reminds me that it looks as if Lucky Scent is phasing out the Divine fragrances. I’ve always ordered directly from Divine anyway since the prices are so much better and their customer service is fantastic, but that’s too bad about LS for sampling purposes.
Robin, I saw L.I.L.Y. on Sephora a few days back when I was using their fragrance IQ feature and was tempted to pick up a rollerball. It does sound pretty nice and a bit unusual. Do you think it’s worth a cheap thrills blind buy?
Well, no — it’s not so spectacular that I’d buy it blind. I just think it’s a nice, well made designer scent that didn’t get as much attention as it deserved.
What is euphemistically called “snowy mix” here in the Northeast USA is making for a very miserable travel day. I only had to go to the eye doctor, but feel for those who are traveling further to be with friends and family for Thanksgiving.
I’m wearing Bois des Isles, which is so comfy, beautiful, and perfect for a stormy evening in. I just reapplied. 🙂
For those who celebrate it, Happy Thanksgiving!
I had a meeting for which I needed to seem professional but also wanted to be a ‘comforting presence’. I wore Vanille Orchidee which was perfect. It always makes me feel so refined! (even when I’m wearing Dr Marten boots 🙂 )
I wore Safran Troublant, which (like Mitsouko, and like nothing else I can think of) seems confer a golden glow, like walking around in a nimbus.
I’m on aeroplanes today so just wearing the whispery Noa, by Cacherel. I’m pre-empting cheap thrills Friday; Noa cost me $25 I think.
Today I tried to match my outfit and my fragrance (usually I am not that sophisticated, but it is a fun exercise), and was deciding between Diptyque l’Eau de Lavande and Chanel Sycomore. Lavande won.
Happy thanksgiving to my American neighbours. Safe travels for those of you going on the road!
Tonight I am awash in Coromandel and Loving It. Mmmmm. Wishing I had the kind of lifestyle where I could wear this every day!
Today I wore Histoires de Parfums Amber 114 from the Olfactif sampler, followed later by Neela Vermiere Mohur. I see that they are opening a brand spanking new Lush on Friday at 6 am and I am debating if I should break my anti Black Friday rule and go check it out? Any suggestions as to what to get? Rose Jam and…?
Rose Jam and So White.
Amouage Epic today. Still going strong after 12 hours. Beautiful stuff!
