What fragrance did you pick for today? If you own a bottle, tell us if you'll replace it if you ever drain it. If you don't own a bottle, tell us if you think you'll ever buy it.
I'm wearing Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Eau Pour Le Jeune Homme. I do love this one and I should wear it more often, but since I don't seem to, no, I won't replace it. On the other hand, I don't think I'll ever drain it. It's 90 ml and still a little more than half full.
Reminder: tomorrow we're doing Gender Wars: wear something marketed to your gender opposite, with partial credit for wearing something marketed as unisex.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image shows one of the Maître Parfumeur et Gantier 'perfumed cushion' sachets, €26.
SOTD is Signature Black Mark (Jack Black). It is a full bottle, and I will likely never drain it in 3 lifetimes due to the size of my collection. Also not likely that I could find a bottle if I ever got close to draining it.
They’ve still got it on their website, $25 for 30 ml…
Wow, should have gotten that size before obtaining the 100ml. Less is more! 😉
Yes…nice that they’re making them, at least in the Black and Silver.
I was inspired by a comment yesterday to wear Lyric Woman again. Unfortunately, my allergies are killing me and I can hardly smell it. I wish some kind fairy would deliver a huge bottle to me but I’m living on decants for now. I will probably buy myself a full bottle someday as it’s one of my greatest perfume loves. Oddly enough, I have FBs of very few of my favorites.
So sorry! Hope the pollen count goes down for you…
I would greatly like the FB fairy to visit me as well. So many that I love are just in samples/small decants. You smell wonderful 🙂 Hope the allergies subside soon.
Thanks all! My area is one of the worst in the country for allergens so I’m pretty used to mild to moderate suffering but today is just extra special in the sniffles department, and I know I smell so good!
I’m wearing Tea for Two in celebration of L’Artisan bringing it back. I have a bottle, which is probably more than I’ll ever use up, but I’m glad to know now I have the option of replacing it if I do.
Yes! For a time, anyway.
I held off sampling this one because it was discontinued, and now that it week be available again I am excited to try it….And at the same time trying not to build up unattainable expectations. 🙂
week = will
SOTD is Hiram Green Moon Bloom. I have the travel spray and I can see myself buying a FB when I drain it. Love this scent!
It really is pretty, I’d like a bottle of that.
Me too..
Indigo (only distributor for Moon Bloom in the US as far as I know) had a sale last week and I bought a bottle. So pretty!
I really need to try that.
Today I am wearing Neela Vermiere Mohur. I drained the Olfactif sample in a month and am working in a decant. If I finish this, it will definitely be time for a full bottle. I love te fresh green snap in te opening and then it is just creamy and lovely later. Love!
Walking and typing on a phone clearly is beyond my abilities.
Ha, that’s ok…got all of it 🙂
The extrait bottle is gorgeous. Just saying.
I got that in my sampler too, it’s lovely! I also like that Lady Vengeance! Rose Cut, unfortunately, just isn’t becoming on me…
I’m in the midst of trying to pare down my monthly expenses — I’m debating cutting the cable cord, but Olfactif is a necessity! That’s my self-care.
I have a sample of Mohur Extrait and it’s the most beautiful rose I have ever tried. I hope I will buy that gorgeous FB one day!
I wore Bois des Iles today, as I just treated myself to a very expensive 75ml bottle. So glad I got, it, although it wasn’t really the best choice for today as the weather was a bit too warm for it.
I love that one. You smell maaaaahvelous, dahling.
It is now bedtime and I’ve chosen Femme- I always wear scent to bed when I’m alone ( I feel a bit of a freak wearing perfume to bed with the BF.. anyone else have this issue?)
It was cheap and it’s a very big bottle and it will likely turn before it ever gets emptied.
That one seems a perfect scent to wear for bed – one of my favorites for that time.
I’ve been single for so long I don’t even know how a man would react to my spraying myself at bedtime, but I can sympathize with your being self conscious. But go with your bad self…unless he hates the scent.
A case of FB versus BF? :8-)
I often wear scents to bed. I only feel bad that I drained my samples of Coco and Coromandel because I loved wearing them to bed so much! Although, I have turned my BF into a perfumista (perfumisto?), so there is not judgement there. And we’ve been together long enough that if he does judge me, I have a lot of things to make fun of him back with 😉
My guy has commented how he likes when I wear scents to bed. Sometimes I’ll ask him “vanilla? Or flowers?” And I think he secret likes getting to pick, ha ha!
Give it a try…maybe he is thinking “vanilla would be nice”
I should also mention there are times when he says “ugh, that one is a bit much” (hot summer night, dior addict…..nuff said)
My husband and I pick scents that compliment each other sometimes. If I’ve already chosen something, he’ll take a sniff and pick something that “goes” and vice versa. It’s a fun game.
Bois des Iles is one of my future FBs. As soon as I’m done with the last decant of it.
Trying out Armani Prive Bois d’Encens today. I was really hoping to love this because I dig churchy incense fragrances, but this one just isn’t working for me. Something about the green citrusy top note is really not melding well with the incense on my skin. It’s not necessarily a scrubber, but I wish I had on something a bit more comforting since it’s cold and rainy out again today.
I have trouble with this in cold blah weather too, I like the smell, but it makes me colder. It layers well with a simple vanilla I’ve discovered, which cozies it up a bit 🙂
Oh, that got me wondering if I should layer it with Vanille Incensee by Atelier…. hmmmm. Good idea!
I’m wearing a bracing jolt of Caron Coup de Fouet. It just about sizzles with carnations and pepper.
I perked up when I read carnation. Have to add to the list!
Wore Safran Troublant for an interview today. I received excellent news yesterday that I hope to be able to share in an open poll soon 🙂
Yay! We like good news…. and a great scent to go along with it!
Oooooooh news!
Yes, please!! Good luck with interview 🙂
Will those news come with some cat pictures? (I do realize the news isn’t related to any felines) : )
Hooray for good news!
Wearing Le Labo Vanille 44 today from a sample I got at Barney’s.
When I got the sample, I thought it was nice enough, but not really my thing, and while I’d probably eventually finish the sample, I’d certainly never buy a bottle…Fast forward to today, a cold, wet, grey, miserable day if ever there was one, and it is THE. MOST. PERFECT. SCENT. IMAGINABLE. I may need to go out and get a bottle just for awful rainy days. I never thought I’d say that about a vanilla scent.
It’s really interesting how some scents need to be worn at the right time to “get” them. I wish I’d thrown on something with a bit of vanilla or resinous today. Glad it’s worked out for you now 🙂
Agree on sometimes there being One Right Time. Sometimes it doesn’t matter, but sometimes I think it really does.
It’s amazing how it really can make a difference. Now I want to go back and test out some other things that hadn’t quite worked…
I believe going out and getting a bottle might involve a trip to Paris (unless the city exclusives are available until the end of the month )
Oh no, a trip to Paris, however shall I cope? *swoon* Actually, I signed up for some in a split, so it will all work out somehow…
I’m wearing Tom Ford Oud Fleur. I got a very generous sample from Sak’s. I like it a lot, but there are other TF’s I’d buy first, probably, and I probably wouldn’t buy any of them at full price…
Ditto for me. The SA at my local NM said that Oud Fleur was outselling the other two Oud frags (Oud Wood and Tobacco Oud), but I’m not sure about rose in OF. I already have OW, and I really like TO. Now, how do I get TO with the OW I already have, without purchasing the TO? Layering suggestions? 🙂
Good question! Maybe layer with some Spicebomb?
Will give it a whirl, I have a decant of Spicebomb somewhere, now if I can just find it… 🙂
I’m wearing Jardins d’Ecrivains Wilde, the only masculine in my FB collection, because I thought it was already Friday. I’m moderately devastated, but I smell GREAT.
It’s a big bottle, and I only fell in love and bought it a few months ago, so right now I can’t really imagine whether or when I’ll drain it, or how I’ll feel about it then.
You Do smell great… I’d like a bottle of this one too when my decant is gone..
I’m OBSESSED with that scent (also part of an Olfactif sampler). It’s so funny because for some reason, I see that scent as very feminine. Or it least it is on me. Regardless, it’s one scent my skin does justice too! 😉
Very much agreed! It’s marketed as a masculine but I don’t think it has to be at all.
You made me laugh out loud! I have had hectic harried dreams about Thursdays and woken up assuming that I’ve made it to Friday…to sadly realize Thursday still stretches out in front of me.
I have to properly explore the Maître Parfumeur et Gantier line – I know nothing of it and I should.
Wearing Tolu on one wrist and Tiare on the other from my Ormonde Jayne discovery set. I’m not sure I need a bottle of either, but unlike many of the people who commented this weekend ( 🙂 ) I do like the base, and I find them both to be pretty. Tiare is less my style than Tolu, but I respect it. I don’t know Iso-E Super from anything else just yet (though I do plan to study the Escentric Molecules line to be able to better identify them), but if that’s what these are based on, I vote yes.
Did they send you a sample of the men’s, Isfarkand? That one is tons of iso e super, & less of anything else — it should really stand out.
They did – sampling on another location now! Wheeeee
Uh oh……less whee now…..getting a headache from this. Poopies.
So now you know iso e super 🙂
Haha! Ow.
Headache is mostly gone, and I do like the scent somewhat, but now it will be associated with headaches. Oh well – first thing to add to the swap/gifting pile!
I’m so glad you chimed in! I was hoping you would as I know you bought the set for your birthday and it really is lovely. I hope one day I will revisit it and have a different experience, and if not it will make a nice gift for someone. (Although I have a fantasy of figuring out how to make use of that box…)
You’ve just reminded me to re-try some Cuir Fetiche from MPG.
I’m wearing Parfums de Rosine Poussiere de Rose and I would definitely replace this one (as well as their Rose d’Ete). PdR perfumes are really nice on me and last quite well. I know some people have trouble with their staying power, but fortunately I don’t experience this problem.
Poussiere is so nice. Rose d’Ete’s probably my favorite from the line. I get a quite-normal (for EdT on me) 3.5 to 4 hours’ wear out of two spritzes of it.
I’m wearing Tiziana Tirenzi White Fire today from a sample. It has been in my Lucky Scent cart for at least six months now and I thought I would wear it today to confirm I want a bottle. It is lovely but somewhat wispy and now I am on the fence about it.
Yesterday was rainy and blustery and I spent a few hours organizing all my samples. I found I was ordering duplicates because I couldn’t keep track of what I had. Now every house has its own labelled baggie. I found things I would have sworn I had never smelled (looking at you, Black Orchid).
I need to catch up on mine. I can’t find anything from the last year. It’s so great when they are all neat and easy to find!
I’m wearing Amouage Journey today from a decant. I’ve just about drained it and will probably seek a bottle out at some point. It’s the first ‘tea’ scent that I’ve really liked and I have a thing for apricot notes. Yum! Temps are rising in the south again and so Fall is yet again delayed. Journey is light enough for a hot day but still feels like a fall scent.
Journey is gorgeous! I never thought I’d like that one as much as I do. Some days I completely crave it. You smell great! 🙂
Haven’t tried the last two or three Amouages yet – I need to get on the ball. (Would be easier if I could just go find testers.)
SOTD is True Love by Valentina’s Home-Brewed. I own a bottle. If I ever drain it, I will probably replace it.
PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE TODAY
http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2014/17oct_sunseteclipse/
Action begins at approximately 6 PM on the East Coast and 2 PM on the West Coast. Even if you don’t have a safe way to view the eclipse. There are other cool things to see, like crescent-shaped sunbeams. For more info, see the link.
Thank’s for the ecclipse tip! 🙂
I was so looking forward to this but as usual here, everytime there’s a meteor shower or similar event, the clouds arrive. And so it is today, the clouds have just arrived. Boo, hiss!
Oh, so sorry about the clouds! It was mostly overcast here, but enough light made it through (near the end of things) for three of us at work to see it from a window in a meeting room using in a pinhole camera that a clever co-worker made with a copier paper box.
Added some sandalwood and Ylang Ylang essential oils to my moisturizer this morning. All that creamy flower loveliness made me crave a few dabs of Fracas.
Kindcrow, appreciate the info on the eclipse today. I will be outside viewing.
You are welcome. I hope that you enjoy it. I saw one large “shooting star” on Tuesday morning (part of the Orionid meteor shower). It was a nice way to start the day.
Wearing SSS Cocoa Sandalwood. I’ll probably never drain it but I love love love it. I would replace it in a heartbeat if I ever ran out!
I’m in Rien, which I hadn’t worn in a while. It one of my most comforting scents; I feel very centred whenever I wear this.
I’ve never tried L’Eau pljh, but it sounds nice. It’s quite a good line I think, MPG.
SOTD is Tom For Tobacco Vanille, from a sample I got over the weekend. Perfect for the cold and drizzly fall day. I feel so cuddly. Of course, I took a red eye last night, and am a little tired and out of it today – I just keep thinking about putting on my pajamas and getting into bed!
This is my first time trying out Tabacco Vanille. I really like it, but it is above my (somewhat arbitrary) cut of of $20/mL. Other tobacco fragrances I have tried are too sweet, so I like how this is tobacco AND vanilla without crossing that boundary. I’ll look out for another tobacco fragrance, but if I don’t find one then I might splurge for a decant.
Have you tried Phaedon Tabac Rouge and / or SSS Tabac Aurea? I have a biggish decant of the Tom Ford, but if it ever ran out I’d buy one of those to replace it. They are very similar to me, especially the Phaedon.
Thanks for the suggestions! I am actually super impatient to try some SSS – especially cocoa sandalwood, ambre noir, champagne de bois, and now tabac aurea. I keep checking their website, but they have been closed to online orders all month 🙁
They promised to put the cart back on by the end of this month, so hopefully you’ll be able to get what you want soon.
I adore Tabac Aurea… hope Laurie is up to filling orders again soon, and you can try some SSS.
That one is my favorite of the SSS frags as well!
You can sign up for Laurie’s blog:
http://sonomascent.wordpress.com/ and she’ll post when the cart is back up.
Diptyque Volutes EDT
I got a sample of Volutes EDT this weekend!! I impulse picked it after smelling the bottle, I was initially going to ask for Tam Dao but Volutes just caught me. I haven’t worn it yet as I got quite a few samples this weekend – TF Tuscan Leather and Tobacco Vanille, Diptyque Volutes, Aqua di Parma Iris Nobile, Kenzo Amour, Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue, and Penahligons LP no 9. I spent most of the week with my sister and she doesn’t like perfume.
Ooh I love that one. You smell lovely! After deciding I need to own it in one form or another, I am still trying to decide between edt and edp. I may have to just order small decants of each since my samples are running low so I can give them a proper spray. Perhaps that will help me make up my mind.
Have you tried L’Occitane Eau des Baux? I found it really similar to Tobacco Vanille, but maybe a bit lighter.. and about 1/8 the price! Last I looked, while the TF was about $200/50ml, EdB was $50/100ml (granted, it’s been a while since I looked, so the prices could be different now)
Thanks for the suggestion! I think L’Occitane makes nice fragrances – I have their Vetyver and I think it’s a great, warm, spicy scent. Will definitely give this a try next time I’m at the mall 🙂
Passage D’Enfer yet again, though I accidentally touched up one wrist with Safran Troublant–which is beautiful, but not part of today’s plan. I actually just bought a bottle of PD’E and am impatiently awaiting an email saying that it’s ready for me to pick up in the store. I feel especially victorious since there was only one left on that website.
Hard to say if I’ll replace it. Who knows if I’ll ever even finish it. I’ve only emptied one bottle in the past year, but this one’s easier to wear (and doesn’t offend anyone in my household), so I’m holding out hope.
Also holding out hope that it shows up today because if it arrives tomorrow, it’s going to be hard to convince myself to wear a men’s fragrance instead. 🙂
Sampling Blanche de Bois from Parfums Lalun which I so far like rather than love so I probably won’t ever buy it. Once I have money again, my top must-have is a little pricey so I’m not likely to get overly distracted before then
I hope everything is back to normal soon!
I needed something comforting and uncomplicated today after a stressful yesterday – on police-imposed lockdown in my office because of a shooting. (I’m a federal employee in Ottawa.)
Lauder’s Sensuous fit the bill. I’ve always thought of it as kind of a fuzzy blanket of a scent, and for bonus ‘comforting’ points, my first bottle of it was a gift from my Mom. (I’ve already used up one bottle and repurchased it!)
How scary for you! Glad that Sensuous is giving you some comfort today.
I heard about that on NPR this morning. So scary. I’m glad that you’ve got a fragrant blanket.
Bon courage, it’s all over the papers here in Holland!
What an experience – glad you are OK!
There was an inspiring piece in the Washington Post this morning about Kevin Vickers, the Sargeant at Arms credited with calmly dispatching the gunman.
So glad it was not worse than it was! Hope you’ll have a very calming day.
I’m glad you are O.K. and comforted; it was all over the news here too yesterday.
I’m glad you’re OK. (As OK as it is possible to be in this sort of situation.)
Trying out vintage Miss Dior from a splash houndstooth edt bottle obtained very reasonably via ebay. I really liked it initially, but it’s turning quite powdery. I’m unaccustomed to powdery chypres!
Not for the first time, I find the tenacity/longevity of vintage edts to be superior to many modern edps.
meant to add, there’s no way I’ll drain this & won’t replace (though it’s not one of the rarer vintage scents).
Agree on the longevity of vtg things – occasionally even cologne strength from the 60s lasts hooouuuurs on me.
SOTD is Bois des Iles edt. It is definitely soothing my soul on a cold and dreary day!
Im in the edt too. I didn’t realize they also made an edc- that must disappear in the click of the fingers!
Like many others this week, I’m in Safran Troublant today. 3 sprays this morning and it’s already almost gone on me at lunch time. I have, I think, a 5ml decant from the last swap meet, and it was a great choice to get a mini of. I thought it was FBW but now I can say I won’t necessarily be replacing it once I’m through with the decant. It’s lovely, unique, highly wearable, but ultimately, I find it a bit boring, and the sillage/lasting power is lacking (unlike good ol’ Dzing!).
I drifted away from thinking it was FBW, too. Lovely, but I think I’d rather it were actual dessert–a recipe probably I’d tweak by adding cardamom. However, maybe it’s just that I put on Safran Troublant by mistake, but it’s been strangely persistent and noticeable today.
I like Safran Troublant. It would be outstanding if it had a bit more oomph.
SOTD is in celebration of perfect weather: mid 70’s, low humidity and full on sunshine!
PdE Musc Tonkin Extrait from a sample. On one hand, I wish I had snapped a bottle when this was available because it’s wonderful! On the other hand, I’m glad I didn’t because I really need “coolish” weather for this and we just don’t see that often enough down here.
It’s really something though…
It’s rainy and windy here today, and my choice of perfume this morning was Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon. I bought this one either used or at discount because of the beautiful bottle. I like the fragrance well enough, but it doesn’t seem to last very long.
No way I’ll get through the whole bottle. I have a lot of other perfumes that I like better.
Are you wearing it out of a feeling of duty then? 🙂
I keep thinking it will smell better than it does!
I thought it would smell better than it does too! Glad I found a place to try it before I was tempted to impulse buy..
I’ve never smelled it, but I’ve been tempted to buy it at discounters due to the beautiful bottle and awesome name.
Ah, yes, the name is part of the appeal, too!
I have this in several forms but find the body cream to be the ultimate and the one most-used! I’m on my second jar; it’s very strong and lasts forever.
Thanks, Laila! I’m starting to get into body creams since Robin first mentioned buying the EL Bronze Goddess. I have that one and then purchased a body cream for Chanel No. 19, my HG fragrance.
I’m going to ask for the (original) Coco body cream for Christmas. Yum.
Sometimes I just make my own with fragrance-free lotion and whatever sample I have on hand!
Wearing Shalimar edt, no idea when the bottle is from. Bought it on eBay, and it’s about half full at the moment.
I went a liiiittle nutty on eBay this summer, and have already bought up about 6 more bottles of the edt (all for great deals, so there’s that). I still feel the urge to repurchase even now, just cause I love it and feel more secure having lots of it. Pretty sure that means I have issues, but since the band aid is so pleasant I doubt I care.
We all have issues but trust me, you’re among friends!
Gotta love an understanding community!!
SOTD is L’artisan L’Eau de L’Artisan. It’s my second 50 ml bottle and I’d probably replace it again – with 100ml. (I wonder if I need to do that soon? will they discontinue?)
Today I’m wearing Shalimar Ode à la Vanille. I love it to bits, and hope to be able to replace it.
I love that one to bits too! Enjoy 🙂
Wearing an MPG today too! Bahiana for me. Having yet another heat wave, so no “fall” yet here in San Diego. But I love my warm weather scents, so that part of it is OK. I just have a decant of this and like it, but certainly won’t purchase a bottle when it’s gone. I have about 3 more squirts left and I like it, but lasts about 30 minutes.
Inspired by tomorrow’s challenge and by Robin week long foray into men’s fragrance, I’ m wearing K de Krizia today.
I am going to wear Jo Malone 154. I just found out about them last night doing research on my awesome sample collection I won from you guys. Think its cool a house makes perfumes to layer so you can build your own scent. Doubt I ever get there, but will be fun trying the samples I have.
SOTD = Puredistance M layered with Le Labo Vanille 44
M screams MAN from top to bottom, smooth plush manly man leather. I used barely 2 spritzes and since I can be a sissy when I am wearing a man scent, Iayered with 4 spritzes of Vanille 44
Something tells me that one can wear almost anything else under 4 spritzes of Vanille 44 😉
M is really great though I, too, found it just a bit too masculine. Another great candidate for tomorrow, though!
Getting a head start and wearing Bvlgari Black, layered with my own perfume oil creation I made at Sweet Anthem this summer with notes of tomato leaf, peony and tobacco. I will certainly drain my bottle of Black and promptly purchase a replacement. Regarding my Sweet Anthem creation…I’m hoping to return to the store and ask Meredith to try it. I seriously think she can turn it into an actual perfume!
Does it have a name?
When I wrote about it on NST during the summer Kindcrow suggested I call it Nightingale! As for now, it’s in a small bottle and without a name. I’ll keep you all posted!
Yes, do keep us posted!
Will do. Of course, there is always the possibility that I have an inflated sense of how good the combo is! 🙂
I’m wearing Givenchy Play for Her Eau de Toilette (it’s the one in the white bottle). I have about 1/3 of a 2.5 oz bottle given to me by a friend who tired of it and thought I’d like to try it.
It’s very soft and close to the skin and would be suitable to wear anywhere. It’s clean in a non-laundry sort of way, but very fruity. The fruit is peach (not a personal favorite), so this isn’t something I’d replace if I use it up. I might, in fact, give it to my DIL to try. It’s not bad, just not me.
SOTD is Obsession by Calvin Klein. Just bought a bottle, may never drain it 🙂
That’s one of my favorites. It’s great for fall, too.
SOTD is Chloe Roses de Chloe. I bought three 30ml Chloe perfumes in a set and this is one of them. I do like it well enough as one of those perfumes I reach for when I just want to smell good without needing to sniff my wrist every five minutes to chart the perfume’s development. And yes, I’d certainly buy this one again in a small size. It is lovely just out of the shower or with a cozy sweater.
I smelled that one for the first time the other day, and it was pleasantly surprised. Wouldn’t mind an FB of that myself.
Rebecca, I just posted this in the swap post but thought I might be able to wave at you here. You said awhile ago that you would like a full bottle of Cashmere Mist, and I have one, 90% full, that I rarely wear (edp) – if you want it, reply here with your email and I’ll contact you (I would post my email, but you never know when some imposter will swoop in and steal the bottle – yeah, I’m that paranoid…)
The fragrance gods have been good to me as of late and I’m trying to pay it back. : )
I’m wearing Laurence Dumont Crème Brulee layered with Tea Rose, which I always think of as the perfect scent for Diana Barry of Avonlea. I’ll replace the Tea Rose when it runs out because it’s a Marshall’s perennial and everybody needs a rose soliflore. I don’t know if I’ll be able to find the Crème Brulee again (it came out of a clearance basket at Sephora).
No idea where the accent grave came from, but it’s in the right place so I’ll keep it. I wish that there was a matching accent aigu in Brulee.
In further news, EU painters are now losing their oakmoss equivalent:
http://online.wsj.com/articles/an-obituary-for-color-yellow-orange-and-red-1412718962
That sounds like a wonderful combination. Off to see if the Dumont perfume is still out there…
Oh NO!!! Thanks for the link but that is a truly stunning development 🙁
I wanted to wear TF Oud Wood today but I also wanted to try my new Rose Flash, so I put on both, in different spots. They are smelling lovely together! I will not repurchase Oud Wood as I now like Tobacco Oud better, and Rose Flash was a LE so I doubt it will ever be available again.
It’s hard to imagine using anything up, but I do have only tiny 2-ml minis of some beloved Afteliers, such as Tango, Private Collection and Cuir de Gardenia. I’d like to get more so that I can relax and enjoy them more expansively, and don’t want to wait until I use them up, in case they are discontinued.
I have to decide between back-up minis (which are extraits) and EdP sprays. If anyone has tried both forms of any of these, I’d appreciate any thoughts on the differences, if any.
Wow. i did not know that Cuir de Gardenia comes in EDP atomizer. I love the extrait which is more of an oil. I apply it to hair and I smell great all day
Double checking the website, I see that Tango and Cuir de Gardenia are also available as EdP sprays, but Parfum Privé (the correct name) does not, although it and Cuir de Gardenia also come as a solids.
Part of my difficulty in making up my mind is that I can’t keep the options straight, plus there are tempting new ones such as Palimpsest…
Applying the oils to hair is a great idea!
Testing a bunch of Le Galion(s) – Tubereuse, Sortilege, Iris and Whip. I have to say, these are really well made and the quality of ingredients is excellent. Tubereuse is interesting. It isn’t heavy, but it’s not sheer either. It’s got a slight green edge and the orange blossom and raspberry helps cut the butteriness of the tuberose. I don’t get the pear (which is fine). Sortilege is a real old-school aldehydic floral knockout. I’ve wanted to try it ever since I read it was the official scent of the Stork Club (the owner loved it so much he bought the rights to it and bottled it and distributed it through the club – used to give it as gifts to his famous patrons, if I remember the story correctly). I probably won’t buy a big bottle (but they sell 6.5ml minis on their site) but I am thinking about getting Iris and Whip. Iris is a beautiful slightly buttery-powdery skin scent and Whip is a tangy herbal leather cologne. The tarragon really blends well with the citrus and leather.
I have an extremely unloved 5ml decant of Whip… if you live in the US and will PM me your address, it’s yours.
I really love the Tubereuse. I agree – not sheer, but not the old-fashioned bludgeoner tuberose can be sometimes. I like to think of it as “clear,” like the opposite of opaque, but substantial the way lead crystal is.
Oh, that’s really kind of you – but that’s what I have, the minis! (I was more referencing size for anyone who was interested since it’s rare that a company openly sells a mini). I have to say, blown away by their customer service. I only ordered a few, they sent me the entire lot of minis!!
Mine’s not a mini – I got in on a split of a full bottle without having smelled any of these before, and I KNOW for sure I’m never going to wear this 5mls of Whip. Anybody else in the US wants it, let me know.
The Tubereuse is half gone already, though. Really gorgeous stuff.
I’m wearing Creed Jasmin Impératrice Eugénie. I doubt I’ll go through the bottle I have now but if it were to disappear somehow I would probably want it back since I like wearing this perfume.
Two, count them, two sprays of Dune today. Wow! I smell good! I usually dab this one since it’s strong on me, but I looked out the window and saw more rain and drab, drab, drab which made me spray 2Xs. Not sure if my office mates are happy about this.
I love Dune and I’ve had a small sized decant that’s lasted me over a year now. Once it’s gone I’ll likely purchase another decant. A FB of this is too much for my limited counter space. That bottle is gorgeous, however.
Most of the online discounters have mini bottles, if that would suit you. (I know because I bought my sister-in-law a spray mini for her birthday about 18 months ago – she wears perfume infrequently but wanted just a little to wear for date nights and special occasions.)
Funny you should write this as I was wondering if it’s better to purchase a decant from one of the decanting sources – STC, TPC – or buy a mini/small size bottle from a site like you mention.
I recently bought a mini version of a scent I wanted to try via Amazon and the juice had gone bad. They sent me a new one and that was bad too.
At least with decanting you know they’re sending you good stuff, right?
Ah. I’ve never had anything I bought at an online discounter go bad before getting to me. (Ebay vintage, yes, but I take that into account beforehand.) I did, however, buy a sample of vintage Mitsouko from one of the decant services that smelled awful to me. Now, granted, it was labeled and sold as vintage… but I had a friend who loves Mitsy and has worn it for decades to have a sniff of my pricey 1ml vintage parfum – and she shook her head emphatically at me. “The oak moss has deteriorated in this stuff. It should not smell like THAT.”
Everything’s a crapshoot. I suppose if I had complained to the decant service I might have gotten them to take it back, but, you know, it’s a sample. They don’t guarantee you’ll like it.
Wearing Guerlain Vetiver today, I enjoy it, but i think i’ll go for MPG Racine or Route de Vetiver when this runs out. I like my older vintage mini of the Guerlain, with its smokiness, better than than my newer full bottle.
Have you tried Encre Noir? I love it but also really like the 2 MPG Vetivers. The opening of Route is especially interesting.
Love this. I was lucky enough to recently find a sealed box/big bottle of the striped frosted bottle of vintage (well 2000ish, when the tobacco was still pretty present) Vetiver, cheap so I snapped it up, but I have to say of the modern lot of vetivers, Encre Noir is the best.
I’ll have to try Encre Noir, it’s one i haven’t made it around to trying yet. But with some recommedations i’ll definitely give a shot. Thanks.
It’s definitely smoky, dry-grassy. It suits its name perfectly, reminds me of when my mother would make sumi (japanese calligraphy ink) by rubbing the sumi stick in a little bit of water.
I love Racine!
Aha, maybe I’ll wear Racine tomorrow!
I’ve been testing more of the Pinrose things. Will probably try the other two that sounded at least interesting to me, but I think I’m done with them. And despite the “highest quality at cheaper-than-mainstream prices” marketing slant, these are no better composed than a number of drugstore scents. Which I suspected, but still felt like testing to find out.
Just put on a bit of my beloved Tabac Aurea for this golden, lovely fall day. Just finished a 4-hour Outlander marathon with my daughter who’s home from college for Fall Break, and life is pretty good.
Are you trying the towelette samples, or did you get your hands on the actual juice? I liked the one with cardamom, but $50 for one ounce isn’t an impulse buy for me, and the towelette sample didn’t convince me.
SOTD is Caron Tabac Blond edt from a large-ish decant that I most definitely WILL drain (and probably soon). If I ever get to New York or Paris (dream on!), or if Caron designates a local retailer for it, I will most likely invest in a full bottle. Or two. I lurve this one.
I’m wrapped in a cozy blanket of Laura Mercier’s Creme Brulee body souffle. Mmmm, love its caramelly sweetness! I have a large jar of this which will last me a long time as I don’t wear it often, but when I do there’s no need of any additional fragrance, so I don’t plan on purchasing its coordinating edt.
My good deed of the day: A juvenile cardinal and a house sparrow found their way in to our screened porch through a small hole in one of the screens and couldn’t find their way out; they were terrified and flying all over. I opened the door for them and convinced them life was way better outside in the shrubs and at the bird feeders. 🙂
Oh, good job! Sometimes they are so scared that they can’t focus on an obvious exit. We don’t have Cardinals in California, and it’s always a treat to see them on trips.
I’m wearing Bottega Veneta today. I got thinking about it after reading Ari’s poll on her blog about neglected perfumes. And this is one that I tend to neglect for some reason.
It’s such a good one–you smell great!
I started the morning with Hiris. This afternoon I reapplied on one wrist, and shifted to 28 La Pausa on the other to compare – both from nearly empty samples. I’m hoping to treat myself to something new, lovely, and probably irisy soon. I’d definitely take a FB of both if they magically came my way 🙂
Both these are so lovely, but I prefer Chanel, which I find slightly more cool in a way that, paradoxically, is comforting. I’ve heard iris described as an introspective scent. It certainly can make me feel like I’ve had more quiet, restorative time than I actually have, almost like I am insulated from the surrounding noise by the irisy haze.
Wearing Kai from a nearly empty bottle bought before falling down the rabbit hole. Enjoyable enough on a warm humid thundery day but will replace with OJ Frangipani and Carnal Flower as my most loved tropical florals so far.
Trayee tonight, and absolutely loving it. I only have a 10ml from the discovery set, when they used to send to Canada. I would absolutely love to get a fb, but it is a beast to get here. The only place I know to get it from is ls and with shipping, duty, tax and fx it comes to well over $300 so that is just a bit out of range, particularly when about $100 of that is just shipping, duty, tax and fx.
SOTD is Jour d’Hermes. I bought a tester, cheap. (Although my most recent purchase from the same discounter was a fake, which on balance makes the Jd’H just quite reasonable. Hanae Mori seems to be a risky one to buy from the discounters.) I love the Jd’H, and it seems to be appropriate for any daytime, warm-weather activity. Right now I’d say I would definitely replace it if I can afford to, but maybe 2.5 oz later, I’ll find something I like even better. (And who knows how long it will take to finish the bottle? Owning more than two bottles of perfume at one time is still new to me.)
I mailed off my swaps this afternoon. I didn’t think I’d participate this time, but I thought I’d just take a look, and then I ended up with four.
