Wednesday scent of the day 9/24

Posted by Robin on 24 September 2014 132 Comments

anise

It's hump day...what fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Serge Lutens Douce Amere.

Reminder: this Friday, 26 September, will be Uncle Serge Day...wear something by Serge Lutens. The following Friday, 3 October, is Purgatory Basket Friday...find a sample you haven't been able to make up your mind about, give it a second chance.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

I was thinking about wearing Douce Amere on Friday. I love that one and don’t wear it nearly enough. Today I’m wearing Lyric Woman.

I layered Prada Infusion d’Iris EDP and Le Labo Vanille 44 (after a fit of inspiration in the shower). I like it so much I’m thinking maybe I should just get the IdI Absolue, even though I’ve thought before that the two weren’t different enough that I’d need both.

Just got the rollerball, since I figure by the time I run through that I will run across bottles in my local Ross or TJ Maxx.

I am wearing my sample of October 1st 6pm Belvedere Villa
Borghese – Roma for the first time. It is such a fun scent to test! It does not really smell to me like a garden at 6 pm (although I have never been to Rome). The scent actually makes me think of a river or lake in the morning in early September. I get a lot of different notes, but there is a clean watery accord from start to finish.

Bottega Venetta again today but was seriously (seriously) considering Shalimar Parfum Initial L’Eau because I’m still thinking about iris. Don’t tell my work-mates that I have a baggie of iris perfume samples in my purse for sniffing later on.

Running errands last night and came across a Burberry display. Was able to try the classic Burberry and the new My Burberry. I liked the classic a lot and may gift this to my nieces as an alternative to the frootysugarbombs out there. My Burberry was much more powdery than I expected and the bottle was tiny and quite adorable.

You smell marvelous. Equistrius is such a fascinating scent. Dry, floral, a bit leathery (iris?) a bit cuddly/comforting, with its rice note. I missed the review yesterday, so thanks for the heads-up. Enjoy your day!

Infusion d’Iris. Half the time, this one doesn’t even require me to think, which is certainly a good thing on some days.

My beloved kitty at home with my parents – I call her my one true kitty – is not doing well. She is 18 and has had a wonderful, luxurious life, full of cuddles, but it may now be coming to an end. Trying to cheer myself up with happy memories of my sweet girl…

Aw, it sounds like she is very loved. My kitty passed away in December at the ripe age of twenty. She was so wonderful, and perfect (not that I’m biased…) and I miss her all the time but she had a happy life, as it sounds like your kitty has too. Still, it is hard and I hope that your happy memories and elegant choice of Infusion D’Iris will cheer you up.

I’m sorry to hear about your cat. I lost a beloved cat about 12 years ago, and he was truly irreplaceable, even though I’ve had other cats since. My younger sister would always say my special cat, Max, smelled like me. Which means he smelled like Coco! He was solid black and just beautiful. I’d always make a joke with him when I was getting dressed for work. I’d say, Max, what should I wear? And he would say, Darling, you must wear black and you must wear fur. 😉

I have a black fluffy cat who likes to sit on shoulders. He drapes his body across your shoulders, and then we say “Shoulder Cats are In this fall” and “anyone who is anyone is wearing a shoulder cat these days”

          Cats are the ultimate.

I am wearing Orlando, which is officially named for a character in a Woolfe novel. But to me, it does not smell a bit like a once radical Modernist (in the early 29th century meaning of that term) novel about transgender.
It smell like a traditional honey cake, dense and flavored with dark coffee or tea. In fact, I would name it Singer, after the great Yiddish writer (or Caterskill after Allegra Goodman’s great novel Caterskill Falls featuring a religious women who longs to become a professional Kosher chef).
I am wearing this honeyed scent because this evening begins the Rosh Hashonah in which honey (and those great honey cakes) symbolize the hope for a year filled with depth and sweetness.

SSS Champagne de Bois today. I really need to wear this more often, I forget how pretty it is.

I wore CdB on Sunday – it was finally just the perfect day for it and I’ve not worn it since last winter. It is so heady and sensuous!

For some reason, the last couple of times I’ve worn Champagne de Bois, which I used to love, it’s gone entirely too sweet. I don’t know why – I don’t remember it smelling so sweet the first year or so I had this bottle. Did it change? did my skin? did my nose?

No idea. I may have to switch it from a “fall” fragrance to an “only in freeeeeezing cold weather” scent, to be able to deal with the sweetness.

I really can only wear the smallest dab of it on my wrists. I know that the other year when I was really stressed out, it was too “symphonic” for my nose and my poor brain. Every once in a while it happens to me that a fragrance I like overwhelms me, so I’ll just put it aside for a while and revisit later.

AA Herba Fresca today. I’ve been wearing this one a lot this summer. And it is still summer here in SD, so I don’t think I’ll be wearing a Serge on Friday! I only have Chene or UBV and those are not fit for warm weather.

My SOTD is Robert Piguet Baghari. I’ve not worn it in many, many months. It was hiding in the back of my drawer, but just very politely shouted-out today. So gorgeous, so elegant! I am having flashbacks to a few years ago that Baghari was really one of my gateway aldehyde fragrances. Along with No 5 Eau Premiere, it really helped pave the way for me. I almost wore No 5 edt today, but I’m so glad I picked Baghari.

The rerelease? Somewhere I’ve got a sample of that… and a decant of vintage EdC, which goes through a stage of being Completely Filthy on me before edging back to politeness. I’ve never made up my mind about it, except that it didn’t woo me the way No. 5 parfum and vintage Arpege did.

This is the modern Baghari – I got the bottle about 5 years ago. It’s not the vintage which I have never smelled. Dirty, eh? Not this one. I don’t know if you would like this version anyway- this one is very powdery, and lots of OB/neroli. I think I am thinking you don’t care for OB, right? Well, it has a warm woody neroli/OB/cedar/carnations/rose & spice body, that is pretty much the same through drydow that lasts for hours. Actually, when I was wearing it today I was really thinking it might be a fun experiement to layer it with a vetiver like Sycomore or Encre Noire (yes, I have vetiver on the brian this year), just to kind of green it up a bit. I was thinking, gee, they should do a vetiver version of Baghari. Then I realized someone already has: it’s called Habanita. And so the circle is complete. I know you hate Habanita, so I’m not surprised you may not like Baghari either. Not that they are the same, Baghari is more warm and festive. But if you ever want to torture yourself, just let me know and I’ll send you a vial. 😉

Wearing Chene today. It’s wonderful, but I don’t think it can displace that other smokey wonder, Fireside Intense, in my heart.

SOTD is Zelda from a sample- really liking this and my sample is almost gone already! It’s on my very short FB wish list.

I can’t really pinpoint WHY I like it so much, I am not even a “floral” fan, but something in this is a real head turner for me.

    Happy Hump Day to all:)

SOTD is L’Ambre des Merveilles.. a nice no-thought-needed fragrance. I’m enjoying the turn in temp to wear these more cozy scents. I’m thinking this one might actually trump my love of L`Eau Ambree by Prada.

This is one of my favorites too! And the bottle (not that packaging EVER sways me!) is just beautiful! It just looks (and smells!) so classy, which I always aspire to be but rarely achieve! Oh, the pitfalls of being average (me, not the perfume!)
      Enjoy 🙂

My sneaky Serge SOTD was L’Eau. It’s odd. I’d forgotten it was cologne with incense/ashes on my skin. It dries down to clean musk. Pretty safe for the non perfume folk, but I’m not loving it. I’ll have to make up for it tonight with something HUGE, like TC, A la Nuit or Fleurs d’Oranger. Cumin and orange blossoms sounds great 😉

Yesterday I was testing Ann Gerard Rose Cut and finally realized that the underlying incense smelled a lot like Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain, but softer, so I decided to wear L’AdDM to bed. It’s increasingly cool and gray here as a nor’easter closes in, so I’m planning to douse myself with it this evening, too. Nothing like incense to fight a damp cold!

I’m trying my favorite new layering combo for the cool, rainy day here: SL Vetiver Oriental and vintage Tweed edc. I’m doing a 1:3 ratio, and it just might be a fall season HG.

SOTD is my newly-arrived 5ml decant of Tauer Sotto La Luna. Beautiful gourmandy gardenia w/ some other floral notes & woods – a little like SL Une Voix Noire, but I couldn’t wear that one because of its cigarette-ash-and-booze quality. The Tauer, I can wear.

Hermès Eau de Pamplemousse Rose today. I like it, but I seriously have to re-spritz every two hours or else I can no longer smell anything. I need to upgrade to that Concentré de Pamplemousse Rose on the next bottle.

Rainy, windy day. Cheered myself up with a rose body cream and then flagrantly spritzed myself with Rochas Femme. Much better! I really do not think there is another perfume quite like it.
