Monday scent of the day 9/15

Posted by Robin on 15 September 2014 93 Comments

YSL Marianne Faithfull

Happy Monday! What's your fragrance today?

I'm wearing vintage Yves Saint Laurent In Love Again.

Reminder: this Friday, 19 September, wear something discontinued.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

And I've added an emoticon chart here, for anyone who needs it.

Wearing LL Benjoin 19 (f a b u l o u s). Which will also be a part of my very short list of confessions to Our Lady Donatella in a couple weeks’ time…And you smell great! Vintage ILA was such a feel-good scent. Loved the tart grapefruit in it.

Yeah, it’s a 50 Shades kind of great (Ouch! (£) followed by YES!), it must be said.

Wearing Volutes EDP. Got this and a couple other samples from a very nice Diptyque rep yesterday. I would never spend the $$ on a Diptyque candle for myself, but the new ones (Ambre and a Christmas-y spicy one) are the bomb.

They’ve also issues (re-issued?) a couple I haven’t seen before in the regular line, saw them when I was on their website yesterday (UK site). Benjoin (boutique/web only) and Vanille (I think this is going to be wide release as I also saw it on Space NK’s UK site a while ago. Funny, as I never got an email release about them. The new holiday candle designs are beautiful too – saw those on someone’s blog a while ago.

SOTD is Rose Jam. I don’t have the perfume – maybe they’ll release it again this winter, I hope! :? I have the body conditioner. It smells great, but the concept of body conditioner just doesn’t work for me. I mix it with unscented body butter and just use it as regular lotion. I smell delicious. When it fades later in the day, I’ll top it of with L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore. Got a free sample with my last FB purchase. I don’t know if I’d splurge for a bottle of Traversee, but it is fun to wear.

Was at a yard sale this weekend and stumbled across a beautiful box emblazoned with the Donna Karan Gold labeling. My pulse quickened. I slowly lifted the lid…only to find a collection of old VHS tapes. So sad…

SOTD – Bvlgari Black. Soothing as I gear up for a long week.

I’m wearing Hermes Ambre des Merveilles for the first time this fall. It is one of my desert island fragrances…so warm and comforting.

Yesterday I wore Chanel 19 to a difficult wedding for me. The husband of my dear friend who died three years ago was getting remarried, and it was a bittersweet occasion. Number 19 (body cream plus perfume) was just perfect.

Eau de Rochas splashed very liberally all over! It’s got unseasonably muggy again today and I was tired of my usual citrus colognes that I wore all through the heat wave. This is so lovely and green and deep and mossy. And sort of autumnal in a way, as it makes me think of the woods where it is shady and cool.

I briefly tested Coco Noir, but I didn’t like it. I don’t exactly recall why and I try not to be miffed or biased b/c I think Chanel takes advantage of the whole “Coco” name thing. But I think I was biased. I don’t care for that grape juice accord, and didn’t wait to get to the drydown. I should really test it again and give it a second chance. I hear the new Coco Noir extrait is very nice, but I’m not likely to test that any time soon. The original Coco is nothing like the Coco Noir. You should go test it! It is wonderful this time of year, esp. if you apply it sparingly so it dries down to a wonderful skin scent. Good luck!

I’ve seen you post about Coco a lot. Which also made me realize how much I’ve neglected it. The edp is a lot like the parfum, so you would be very familiar with it – more fruits and resins. It has a superior drydown to the edt. I love the edt though, and you must know how good it smells! I prefer the opening of the edt to that of the edp. Sometimes I even feel like I have to run away from the edp after I spray it, but never with the edt. Years ago I had the edt first and it was the edt that I wore almost exclusively for a long time, so I have the most affection for it. But if I’m going for sheer performance and longevity (18 hours plus), the edp is outstanding. If you already have the parfum, you are doing about the same. Cheers!

Thanks for your informative reply! It sounds like I don’t need the EDP (at least not right away) ;-)

I was very fortunate last year in Paris at duty-free when the Coco parfum I wanted was not available. The SA told me that if I bought a Travalo from her, she would fill it with the lovely parfum from the tester. So I did, and she did!

Today was Balenciaga Paris for my job interview. But the interview is over and the day is young, so I think I’m going to try something new! A wonderful fairy sent me a sample of Feminite du Bois, so once the Paris is done for, I think I’m going to give that a shot. I can’t waaaaaaiiiiit to try it. After a warm weekend we’re having a coolish day today and I felt in the mood for a soft aoud scent. I chose Moon Aoud (aka Night Aoud) from M. Micallef. I love the unexpected way the initial blast of aoud gives way to a spicy peach and then to a soft amber, all in the most ladylike way. It’s the only aoud I know that’s appropriate for office wear and doesn’t make non-perfumistas wrinkle up their noses.

I am so envying all you folks experiencing cooler weather- please send some down this way. It is still hotter than Satan’s armpit here and I would give anything right about now for a brisk breeze…

I had an unpleasant task first thing this morning so I decided to take the bull by the horns and wear my floral pumps and Onda, The combination of perfume and pumps made me feel like Wonder Woman after she slips on her magic bracelets and golden lariat. Invincible!

By the By, the chocolate post over the weekend prompted me to get off my duff and order some samples- Indigo Vanilla, which has had so many positive comments and the other two in the trio (I forget the names…) and am looking forward to testing them in anticipation of some cooler days here in the south.

Hope you all have an aromatic Monday =)

I had a four-hour drive this morning on extremely slow freeways. I’m wearing a tiny bit of Equistrius because it’s an easy and sort of comforting scent for me. Fortunately the coworker riding with me is a perfume wearer and probably wouldn’t have objected, but I tried to apply sparingly enough anyway that she didn’t notice it at all.

I was working all day on the drawing for a painting with intense subject matter. Took a break and put on a dab of Shalimar perfume from the 1960’s. I found the bottle in an antique place in Ogunquit last year for eight bucks. It was just a fractionof a drop and it was so strong it gave me a headache so I had to wash it off.

Avignon’s my scent of the day, too, but I sweetened it up a little with Demeter Incense. I wish the scent lasted longer, but I got about 6 hours out of it, which really isn’t bad. That might just mean I have to skip a larger decant and go straight for a full bottle.

… and I’m over here jealous that you got six hours out of something!

I loved this one too! Had a sample but it was so fleeting I thought a FB would be gone within a few short weeks. Jaisalmer is great too, but I have the same issue with it :(

SOTD is the original Burberry edp in the pebble-shaped bottle (which, I think, after numerous name changes is now called Burberry Woman or Burberry Women or Burberry Classic, who knows?). I’ve loved its peachy/vanilla/cedarry warmth from its debut in 1995; it’s one of the few bottles I’ve actually used up and I always have a backup bottle even though I don’t wear it as often as I used to. I especially love its fruity/woody coziness on a chilly autumn day like today; somehow it manages to remain soft and caressing yet extremely long-lasting.

SOTD this morning was Crepe de Chine and then I wanted something a little warmer so just put on some Rochas Femme edt. It has been so chilly here the last few days. That kind of cold that is humid and gets into one’s bones… Fall certainly didn’t take any time arriving.

Epic Woman today. Decided I needed to test some of the other Amouages that I have neglected. I think I can cull this one from my lust list, it triggered an epic headache which is too bad because I do like it, sort of. It is strongly woody to me and less rosy that I expected. I really mostly feel like I have been handling Lignum-vitae all day, quite like I have my pockets stuffed with sawdust in fact. Very linear on me and seems to be just disappearing within the last half hour into nothing. I wanted the spices and the vanilla custard! Think I will put this in the bin to re-test in case I’m just having a strange nose day.
BTW, In Love Again is great stuff! I was considering it for Friday but apparently it is available again and I have lots of other really discontinued fragrances that don’t get enough skin time.

Yes, it’s in that ‘La Collection YSL’, although don’t know how long that will hang around.

I wore Creed Fleurs des Gardenias. Something about it reminded me of what my grandmother’s best friend wore in the 70s. It was nice and comforting but I’m not sure if I want to wear it again.
