Perfume is the best invisible garment, and it’s fantastic if it works

Posted by Robin on 18 September 2013 14 Comments

I have nothing against commercial products, perfume is the best invisible garment, and it’s fantastic if it works. But look at the department stores with perfume corners: how are you going to choose? There’s no respect. If we had more conscious human beings who look for a specific smell that fits their personality, we would have a completely different display of those kinds of products. I don’t like everyone walking down the street smelling like Chanel No.5.

He’s got a good point, but what with the torrent of multiple niche releases and niche houses popping up, the concept of unique becomes ubiquitous, as contradictory as it may seem. I think of it like tattoos – in the beginning of the Nineties it was a pretty big deal if a teenager got one, now, everyone’s got one or five, but most people will tell you the same thing – it’s because they want to be different.

You’re right, but I don’t think she’s proposing that niche is any better…just that the system is broken.

And where does he live that everyone smells like No. 5? ;-) Where I am it’s all Angel and Glow.

Yeah, I was thinking you could do worse. In fact, it would be hard to do better. ;-)

” If we had more conscious human beings…”

If we had more conscious human beings, what they smelled like would be the least of the wonders!

I don’t think I’ve encountered a person wearing Chanel No. 5 this entire year.

Perhaps she did not choose the best example — everywhere I go, people are wearing some version of Flowerbomb — but I get her point.

Hmmmm. . . if a perfume display were designed to draw in *my* personality, to suit my fragrance needs, what would it look like?! Certainly not vinyl MJ everything. . . maybe something colorful but still tasteful? :)

I LIKE the idea of getting naked with perfumes that one is testing. You’d need nice warm undressing rooms with a comfortable place to sit. Or perhaps a sauna or a `nice warm tub…. *makes note to try this at home sometime*

By the way, one of the other articles on that website is “The dA-Zed guide to selfies.” Scroll down the article for an adorable set of photos of “DIY bearding with pet cats and dogs.” I can’t think of a way to explain – you just have to look – it’s too funny!
