What the bathrooms smelled like

Posted by Robin on 7 May 2011 16 Comments

It was reported that new Duchess of Cambridge requested her favourite scented candles and toiletries from luxury fragrance brand Jo Malone be delivered to scent the Abbey.

A selection of candles, handwashes and lotions was requested, specifically in citrus spring scents including Orange Blossom, Grapefruit and the ever-popular Lime, Basil & Mandarin.

My bottle of White Gardenia Petals arrived this morning! (Yes, I was one of the insane people who bought a bottle as soon as the news broke out) It’s a pleasant white floral, with very tart citrusy top notes. I can pick out the gardenia and muguet, but the floral notes are a bit “blurry.” It’s not earth-shaking, but it’s very nice. As a big Duchess of Cambridge nee Kate Middleton fan, I am glad to have it!

Also, I fully approve of her Jo Malone choices. Orange Blossom and Lime Basil Mandarin are my favorites of that line!

Congrats on your new bottle! Betcha you could sell it for $500 on eBay.

      Congratulations on your bold purchase!
I look forward to sampling this fragrance at some point in the future but I wouldn’t purchase it, or anything else, until I tried it. I notice that someone is auctioning off a bottle on ebay. Bidding was around $75.00 when I saw it, but the shipping and handling charge was $399.00 – crazy! Can you compare it to other white florals (Fleurissimo, Chanel 22…)?

It actually reminds me most of Serge Lutens Nuit de Cellophane. The notes are different, but it “feels” similar, somehow.

I am normally not to rash in my purchases, but as I said, I am a huge Kate fan! I see this as a little bit of history. 🙂

Thanks for that assessment. I’m pulling out my NdC sample right now to experience that feel. It has been a while since I tried it. You didn’t mention the coconut, so I guess it isn’t a strong note.

Lucky you to have already received her bottle! I must admit to feeling a wee bit curious as to how it smells. Now I can live vicariously through you! Enjoy it.

I assume she *had* to use a British company, right? I guess she could have gone with Miller Harris, or Penhaligon’s or something.

Oh, I suppose. But Jo Malone has managed to infiltrate the upper class like no one else. Still, Kate wasn’t wearing one of her perfumes. They were relegated to the bathrooms. LOL!

I want to know what Prince William wore!! Why don’t they report on that? Trumper? Floris? I suspect something a bit more modern – maybe Miller Harris or one of the other Illuminums??

I suspect he does not wear scent. But who knows.

Oh, as a modern young dashing prince, i hope William does wear scent! I’d love them both to give the royal warrant to Ormonde Jayne!

I heard today from a niche perfumery shop in the NW of England that Kate also wears NR for Her EDT – a lady-in-waiting spotted it on the dressing table of the Duke of Westminster’s house where she was staying. So we can add that one to the list along with Dune (for every day use!).

I am wearing my sample of WGP again today and find it more powdery than NdC, though agree that it is fairly mild and inoffensive. It could have been so heady with those notes and yet it is very demure. Like Un Lys crossed with CK Beauty maybe. I should just buy up some of the 100ml bottles by the sound of things – they hadn’t run out of those last week – though maybe they have now!
