Yves Saint Laurent will launch L'Homme Cologne Gingembre in April. The new fragrance for men is a flanker to 2006's L’Homme Yves Saint Laurent, and is meant to evoke "contemporary masculinity".
The notes for the fresh woody fragrance include bergamot, ozone, ginger, white pepper, vetiver, musk and cedar.
Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Cologne Gingembre will be available in 60 and 100 ml. (via parfum-homme.prime-beaute)
Update: see a review of L'Homme Cologne Gingembre.
I just hope that the ginger could be more pronounced and the cloying cedar less so!
Lots of ginger is always a good thing in my book.
I agree! I’ve yet to find a fragrance that satisfies my love for fresh, zingy ginger. There are elements of Zenzero I like, and I appreciate SL’s 5 o’clock au gingembre except that anything with a tea scent in it smells sour on me. The quest continues…
I think both the others were well done. The original held the #1 best seller spot at sephora for a long time. Im expecting this to do equally well.
I thought the original was depressingly obvious, the sort of thing I’d already smelled a hundred times before (the Nuit version slightly less so), and if this one is “contemporary masculinity”, then I expect it will be more of the same, because that description in essence means “the sort of thing you have already smelled a hundred times before.” I suppose launching something that they could honestly describe as “offbeat masculinity” would be the kiss of death these days.
Pyramus, you make a good point (unfortunately) that there seems to be some pretty strong pressure for men (and boys) to conform these days. I almost feel like there needs to be some sort of men’s liberation movement that empowers them to seek their unique lifestyles and embrace their indivuality in a way so many of we women have benefited from the past 40 years! I see it in my male students, a desire to fit in rather than to be creative. Very little personal drive or ambition–when they have it (and it is many fewer boys than girls who do), they are very often the products of driven parents. Seems really sad. Maybe it’s too much to read into perfume copy, but it really does seem to illustrate the essence of popular culture right now! (As always, feel free to tell me if you think I’m full of it!)
A-MEN! I thought it kinda Sap-like and Sickeningly Cloying! didn’t like it at all!
L’Homme has been a big best seller for YSL. I would agree with both of you: it’s well done but depressingly obvious.
That “ozone” worries me. If this turns out to be Calone Gingembre, I will be disappointed.
Ditto.
I really like the L’Homme. I will be interested to try this one out when it comes out. Very smooth masculine scent.
I liked the first 2, though not groundbreaking by any means. I will surely give this one a test.
‘contemporary masculinity’? cause the previous versions were all so old fashioned?
My attention perked up when I heard about this launch; I don’t know the original, but “ginger” always captures my attention. I’d love a really good, zesty ginger scent.
It seems like the summer flanker from previous years
“Contemporary masculinity”? As opposed to… old-fashioned manliness? Now THAT would be a novel release in men’s fragrance.
Translating the ad, “contemporary masculinity” = bland generic musky woody base over a blast of nauseating ozonic notes. And the ginger will probably be of a poor quality and smell like soap. I`ll pass this one.
Hi, In my opinion this fragrance has a delightful warm and comforting smell.
