Demeter Sanrio Collection part 2, Demeter Naturals Sunflower & Vanilla Bark ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2010 35 Comments

Demeter Sanrio Collection part 2

Demeter has added 3 more fragrances to the Sanrio collection they introduced earlier this year. Sanrio 50th Anniversary, Batz-Maru and Chococat join Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars.

Sanrio 50th Anniversary ~ "Sanrio fans are sure to recognize this familiar scent! The Sanrio signature fragrance is inspired by the scent of a Sanrio store, a combination of Japanese fruit flavored gum and scented erasers."

Badtz-Maru ~ "As his April 1st birthday would suggest, Badtz-Maru is one mischievous little penguin, attracting lots of attention as he walks his pet alligator, Pochi. Reflecting that sense of mischief, we used a unique combination of unsweetened pineapple, cranberry, raspberry and honeydew melon when creating this scent."

Chococat ~ "Chococat is a little boy cat who tends to be a little scatterbrained at times. He gets his name from his chocolate colored nose. His fragrance is Chocolate (of course), with fresh, ripe, red cherries."

Demeter Sanrio 50th Anniversary, Batz-Maru and Chococat are available in available in 15, 30 or 120 ml Cologne ($6 – $39.50).

Also new, two additions to the Demeter Naturals collection:

Sunflower ~ "Cleansing, soothing and strengthening. Like rays of sunshine, Sunflower, is wonderful and delicate scent, that is great all year round."

Vanilla Bark ~ "Calming, consoling, soothing. Rich, creamy and woodsy. An earthy take on classic vanilla."

Demeter Naturals Sunflower and Vanilla Bark are available in 15 or 50 ml Eau de Toilette ($8-29).

I’m all over that 50th Anniversary fragrance! Love love LOVE that smell. I can see absolutely no appropiate time for a 30 something year old woman to ever spray this on herself…but I guess I could say the same for lots of “sereious” fragrance compositions.

I’ve been looking all over for that smell! It really is a mix of japanese peach gum and scented erasers. I’m in heaven!

There are some little gift sets you could break up for that purpose too…

      Sounds like a nice idea.

I have to say I don’t get the whole Hello Kitty phenomenon. In the 4th grade I had some stickers in my sticker album, right next to the Lisa Frank unicorns, but that was it – now though I see grown women with all manner of merchandise. No doubt these will sell like mad! The Vanilla Bark sounds interesting, a woody vanilla would be nice for fall.

Fragrantwitch – when I was little, my older sister got into Hello Kitty, so therefore, I avoided it like the plague. Even though when I was a tween I thought she was cute. I didn’t realize for a long time it was such a phenomenon either. Some of those characters are cute though – Batz-Maru especially. However, I think my Mitsouko would go all Godzilla-on-Tokyo if they were to be housed in my fragrance drawer together.

Whereas… it’s lucky for me I have 2 girls, so I still have an excuse to buy all that stuff. 🙂 When I was 10, my aunt and uncle went to NYC, and they brought us back some little stationery sets; I was hooked. Similarly, I’ll confess to really liking the tokidoki stuff at Sephora, though I’ve limited myself (so far) to just a makeup bag.

Having kids really makes a difference. I’d not been in a toy store for well over 10 years and then went into one in my mid 20s. I saw all this crazy Hello Kitty stuff and didn’t even realize it still existed. My toddler-zilla will get there soon enough. Unless Thomas the Tank Engine or Elmo releases a kiddy fragrance, I’m off the hook.

I have a ten-year-old, so we have LOTS of HK goods around here too, including the My Melody fragrance: so now “we” need the 50th anniversary version for sure! As for Tokidoki, the handbags are awesome, sure to perk you up if you get in a testy mood 🙂 Mine’s black, with a subversively-cute lining, and I have the mints from Sephora for my “serious” bags 😉

Funny, I was just looking at these last night because someone was asking for recommendations for scents for a younger child.

I really should buy a bunch of Demeters, but if I started adding things to the shopping cart, I don’t know where I’d stop. I really just wish I could get a GIGANTIC sample set like Crayola’s 64-crayon box.

At $6 a bottle for the 15 ml, you sort of could make your own sample collection. That isn’t that much more than you’d pay for a sample, when they’re between $3 and $6 more places. Just sayin’. 😉

Hahaa… um, the last thing I need is 15-20 15ml bottles to add to my mess!

Maybe I should offer to make sample sets of the top 10-15 scents that people vote on. HA! But don’t be cluttering up Robin’s comment section encouraging me, okay. 😀

It is a real shame they don’t have a boutique in NY anymore…it would be so much easier than trying to try them all over the internet.

Okay, I had been holding out on the Sanrios but the Badtz-Maru and 50th Anniversary ones are weakening me. If they come out with one for the Aloha Kitty I am definitely doomed.

    Vanilla Bark sounds pretty nice.

Dang. Demeter is calling my name again. Joe, I usually buy about 5 or 6 of those little ones at once… more like the 8-crayon box.

$30-$40 is cheap, but still almost a waste of money when all I really want is 1-2ml of anything for the novelty aspect of smelling most of them. Oh well. I’m sure I could search for swaps on MUA for many of them if the urge really takes me.

I’ve not smelled many of the Demeters – no shops around here have them. But I did find a used and banged up Demeter Baby Powder in a CVS parking lot a few weeks ago. Not bad for a powder….

The Batz-Maru character is so funny – I used to have a keychain with his grumpy face on it. The notes for that one don’t sound so appealing. I think the Vanilla Bark sounds nice. They are so inexpensive it seems worthwhile to find some I like.

I found myself buying a Hello Kitty sake set once, because it seemed the most hilariously incongruous pairing possible. This was well before the advent of the Hello Kitty Hell blog, where there are truly mind-boggling items…

Although none of Demeter’s scents have ever worked for me, I am still tempted to try the Chococat and the Sanrio 50th- always liked the smell of fruit gum and erasers!

I don’t know if anyone will come back to this comment, but I’m wearing the Sunflower right now. It’s very much what I expected from something with this name at first, but there’s something happening in the drydown: a hay-like scent and a spicy scent are leaping out of nowhere and overtaking the original floral. I’m not sure if I like it yet of if it’s gone too “craft store” for me.

I might be too late to the game here, but I just ordered a sample decant of the Vanilla Bark from The Perfumed Court and I can’t detect any vanilla at all, only the smell of alcohol and a slight, sandalwood-y note. I wonder if it actually spoiled. Too bad they don’t take returns/exchanges. Very disappointing! It sounded dreamy…

Alcohol-based perfumes that spoil don’t generally do so by losing their scent, quite the opposite. More likely that either a) it was very light and/or short lived to begin with or b) you are anosmic to something in the scent.
