Scented eyeglasses

Posted by Robin on 16 June 2010 15 Comments

French eyewear brand Les Opticiens ATOL have launched a collection in collaboration with Adriana Karembeu, AK Senteurs, with scented eyeglass arms. There are four fragrances: Coquette (red, with floral notes), Ile aux baisers (mango and citrus), Chocolat (a chocolate gourmand) and Adriana (pink, spicy and sweet). (via cosmeticsinternational)

They’ve been able to scent plastic for some time now. I don’t think the scent lasts forever though.

Looks like this company specializes in glasses with interchangeable arms so maybe you get all 4 scents?

It could be — that would be fun.

I’m sure that’ll be the start of many a romantic conversation:
“You smell intoxicating. What is that?”
    “It’s my eyes.”

I had a similar conversation with my 5 yr old the other day, after she inadvertently squirted herself in the eye with TDC Osmanthus. That’ll teach her to raid my stash! We told her she had the best-smelling eye in the house. Somehow, that failed to take the sting out of it.

Actually, a lot of mundane products (plastics, paper, ink) have fragrance added to them, usually to mask an unpleasant smell. This is really just taking it one step further, by making the added scent noticeable. And remember that in centuries past, it was common to use scent on gloves, shoes, wigs, etc. I do wonder how long the fragrance lasts, though.

The handles of my cheap disposable razors have a ‘raspberry’ scent infused into the handle. It smells awful, I’m always glad when it finally washes away.

I’m not sure I’d want my glasses scented, but I do like the frames! I love chunky plastic frames.

Sounds like a nightmare for people with sensitive eyes like me!

Running away in horror at the thought…

My daughter used to have a plastic baby doll that had scent in the plastic. It wasn’t quite like Johnson’s Baby Powder, maybe more like Love’s Baby Soft. It was cute for the first hour or two, but then it got to be kind of cloying. . . I really wanted to toss the doll after a very short while.
