Posted by Robin on 22 June 2009 21 Comments

Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame Rose 'n Roll

In honor of Ma Dame's first anniversary, Jean Paul Gaultier will launch two new limited edition collector fragrance bottles under the name Rose 'n Roll (the Ma Dame juice is unchanged). One is in 75 ml Eau de Toilette (above left) and one is in 50 ml (above right).

Below the jump, a promotional video made in collaboration with French DJ and producer Martin Solveig. The song is Boys & Girls, featuring Martina Sorbara of Dragonette. The video was filmed at Gaultier's couture house in Paris. Update: video is no longer available, sorry!

Ma Dame smelled like diaper on me. I don’t know why I felt the need to share that, I just did. Needless to say, won’t be buying it, for the bottle or otherwise.

I LOVED it in the bottle, and on paper! I was so disappointed in how it smelled on me. 🙁 There was nothing about it that gave any indication it would smell so, well, poopy on me.

Ma Dame was bubblegum and PVC mac on me, and the worst high street scrubber of recent memory – I routinely encounter niche scrubbers, but high street scents tend by definition to be safer. This one was gross to my nose, so will steer well clear of its flanker. In fact JPG is a house where if I could only wear its perfumes, I would have to wear NO PERFUME at all, which would be a sorry state of affairs. And there is no other perfume house of which I would say that, though Hugo Boss doesn’t exactly have rich pickings, or Britney or Paul Smith. But there would be at least a single something I could wear from most companies.

LOL…looks like I’m the only fan today! This is not a flanker though…the juice is the same.

I liked it well enough. Probably don’t need to own it, but found it wearable anyway.

Sorry – I was clearly too shaken up to read the review properly. : – )

The packaging is absolutely totally gorgeous!!! I’m especially in love with the third one from left to right.
By the way err… Rose ‘n Roll… Would be so original if it weren’t for Rock ‘n’ Rose by Valentino
And perfume houses issue special editions for 50th anniversary… some for 90th.. but I guess in the XXI century everything is so fast-foodish that it’s worth celebrating to survive even for a whole year. Pity… Somewhat I’m sure JPG Classique/Le male will outlive Ma dame.

The third one is the case to the bottle all the way at right…there are only 2 variations. So true about the Valentino, and yes, lasting a year is now an accomplishment, LOL…

You’re not the only fan, Robin! I have been hovering toward a bottle for a while. I just like how kind of awful and artificial it is, but It still makes me smile. It was a while before I got a sample to wear, and I had a card drenched with in in a plastic bag on my desk for a long time. I don’t know, it’s contrary to what I normally like but I do like it.

    Don’t really need a fancy-schmancy bottle, though.

I don’t know that I need a bottle at all, just think it’s a fun scent — and yes, probably contrary to what I usually like 🙂

I don’t NEED one, I just like the bottle, too – lol

I like Ma Dame, but Rose n Roll is a very silly name after Rock n Rose

Hmmm… I like Ma Dame, but I ended up choosing the Pucci Vivara from my Sephora sampler set this Christmas. Now, I’m glad that I did, because I have to have the little cell phone case thing for the limited edition on the right and I wouldn’t want to buy a second bottle to get it. I’m usually not too much of a bottle freak, but I love that case.

Uh oh…you’ve just jinxed yourself! I said the same thing, yet suddenly every time I turn around, it’s “ohhhhhh I love that bottle!” 😀

No doubt – that’s what happened to me after I announced that I didn’t care for white florals and now I’m obsessed with them.
