Miller Harris Fleurs de Bois ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 20 March 2009 45 Comments

Miller Harris Fleurs de Bois perfume

Next up from British niche line Miller Harris will be Fleurs de Bois, a new addition to the classic line. Fleurs de Bois was "inspired by an English garden with dewy grass, fresh rain and floral notes", and will debut in May.

The fragrance notes include galbanum, grass, lemon, green mandarin, rosemary, rose, jasmine, iris, oakmoss, patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver and birch.

Miller Harris Fleurs de Bois will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (quote via cosmeticworld, additional information via abc-luxe)

At first, from the title, I hoped on a “bois et fleurs” take inspired by SL's bois series…
The notes sound plesant, though they do not seem to promise any particularly original kick to “an English garden with dewy grass”, rain and flowers….

This sounds nice. I'm not familiar with my countrymen's perfumes (other than Ormonde Jayne, naturellement!) I don't feel that Floris, Penhaligon and Crabtree and Evelyn count really, as I associate them more with bath oils and talcum powders. But perhaps it's time for me to revisit…..Robin – i was checking out what was available for sampling at Les Sentuers the other day, and noticed an intriguing line called Frapin et Cie from France. Have you herad of them? Their scents sound pretty good. I havn't ordered samples, as i had others on my list………but i may give them a go. Was curious to see if you, or anyone else, had heard of them?

    Yes, see:

Their original scent, 1270, was very popular at MUA a few years back.

Looks like this won't have much relationship to the SLs, true…MH does tend towards a heavier base than the notes imply though. Will have to try it !

    Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Love the base notes, must try this! Does anyone know about the sillage & lasting power? With oakmoss, vetiver & patch, it might be pretty long lasting.

ooooh, this sounds like it suits my mood TODAY—wish I had a sample already! A heavier base sounds good to me…lasting power important in this price range. May seems a long time away.

Hmmm, perhaps I need to put MH on my radar?

This sounds right up my alley. I'm looking forward to trying it.

For years I've worn MH Coeur de Fleur, which to me evokes many happy memories of living in London. However, since embarking on this newfound obsession with perfume, I've reached for it less and less. Interesting how one's tastes can change over the years.

I know just what you mean….but I wonder if why we suddenly seem to be neglecting the trusty standbys is because a whole world of new and exciting stuff is calling our names. I have so many sample vials now that I could go for months without touching my old faves! I wear something different every day lately—ohmigosh—I'm a perfume Ho!!! 😉

I liked the sound of this too until I came to the patchouli-synthetic sandalwood-vetiver base. Yawn.

She has a few lighter scents, but by & large I'd say she tends towards a heavy-ish earthy base. See what you think!

Not today, sorry! We're moving the site this weekend & so am going to cut off all comments either later today or early tomorrow, so would be too confusing to anyone trying to carry on a conversation.

BTW, have been meaning to ask you kindly not to pick Robin as your username at the new location! You can have “Robin 2” or something like, but I'm going to use Robin & it was already confusing enough with me using NowSmellThis & you using Robin…hope that's ok.

How exciting to have a new MH be the first image I see when doing my daily NST visit! I wouldn't go so far as to call MH my favorite line, but they've given me the wonderful Fleur du Matin as well as one of the few figs that I like, Figue Amere. Fleurs de Sel is also wonderful, and I REALLY can't wait to smell this one. Thanks for making my Friday!

I am trying to cut down on clutter, it seems I've got sample vials all over the house. I've been wearing only samples for going on two weeks and have given away ones I know I don't care for. I had no idea I had built up such a stash!!

Forgive my fuzzy brain, but do existing NST members have to sign up on the new site, or does it all migrate over?

Ah, Fleurs du BOIS. That makes much more sense than Fleurs du Voie, which is what I misheard on my last visit.

All the MH's do this weird thing on me – they start off in one direction and then turn in a completely different one after fifteen minutes. Sometimes this works out great (Fleur Orientale), and sometimes it doesn't (Fleurs de Sel). I find this quite intriguing.

Apparently he was in a very limited garden. Another rose- jasmine- thanks for the iris. I am cranky. But I wish I could find a scent like described, only with more flowers. I want to smell a garden with hyacinth, peonies, lilly's, maybe even a little dew laden gardenia. I think galbanum (too me) smells a little..perfumy?? I know Miller Harris macks some excellent scents, I don't begrudge him. But how I wish I could find a niche floral that is more than just pretty, with a few more flowers.

    The perfume Grinch,

    Becca

That would be “makes” duh. Maybe it's just the galbanum in

Charmade and 19 that disagees with me.

Absolutely! When I signed up I didn't even know you were the blogmistress; it was possibly when I stumbled on your site and Angela or Kevin or another of your writers was featured, and I just didn't twig that the user name of robinr would NOT be the name that showed up on the threads; I'd never signed up for a blog before and didn't have a CLUE. Duh! Don't know how I could have been so stupid, but it's typical of me! So sorry for the faux pas. Won't happen again.

Sorry, just trying to explain myself correctly. I see for sure that I thought my user name of “robinr” that I signed on as would be the monicker appearing. I DID know that you were the real Robin. Then, when I saw that you replied as Now Smell This, I thought, okay, it's not that terrible, people will figure it out pretty quick, and didn't think anything more about it. Again, sorry.

On one of the first blogs I read here I got a little confused because I knew the NST host was Robin….then Robin would comment….hmmm….took only about a minute to figure out there were 2 Robins. So it was not too long before I began to think of you as Canadian Robin. I don't think anybody ever thought there was any sort of faux pas at all.

But for those of us who open up NST first thing in the morning with a huge mug of coffee and still only one eye partially open….brain cells mostly non-operational it would probably be easier on us if there was some differentiation.

I for one, am quite glad that you BOTH are here. 🙂

If you are looking for a bouquet-in-a-bottle. I recently tried Tiempe Passate by Antonia's Flowers. Absolutely lovely floral scent.

VanillaGirl, Most of them simply aren't my style. I do like a couple of the lighter ones (Fleur de Matin, Jasmin Vert) and I LOVE the packaging.

Becca, it's actually a she — Lyn Harris — and this does sound more fresh than floral, but we'll have to wait & see. Seems like there are lots of “pretty niche florals” this year though, what about Tom Ford Champaca Absolute, or Serge Lutens Nuit de Cellophane?

The only one I've tried is Geranium Bourbon, and it does exactly what you're describing — interesting to know that the others do that too! The scent itself isn't particularly “me,” but I do enjoy the ride…
