Balmain Ambre Gris ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 12 February 2008 20 Comments

Balmain Ambre Gris fragranceComing in March from Balmain, Ambre Gris, a new fragrance for women:

Described as ‘a lovely, feminine woodsy-oriental,’ the sweet and spicy juice (myrrh, cinnamon, pink pepper, benzoin, immortal blossom), is just barely floral (thanks to a touch of tuberose at the heart) over a lush, velvety, ever-so-slightly animal-like drydown (the eponymous ambergris). The overall effect is unusual, yet reminiscent of some oriental-fougère scents for men.

Balmain Ambre Gris will be available in 75 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching Body Lotion. (quote via osmoz, additional information via parfumeriebreugelmans)

Other recent launches from Balmain: La Mome.

Judging by the (very reasonable) price, “ambergris” in the drydown is, um… not there. The notes sound great anyway, despite the presence of pink pepper.

Does sound kind of tasty. Laughing about the pink pepper, of course. I hope the bottle is as pretty in person — very chic. Of course that cap could go either way.

Yes — that was my first thought — that cap just might end up looking HIDEOUS in person. We'll see, assuming I ever even see this in the US at all.

Golf ball? Disco ball? I'm thinking EPCOT sphere.

Disco ball! It could be very cute, just depends on how that metal is finished. Like the bottle shape & label.

Certainly, there must be pink pepper! If I recall correctly, the law requires it! =P (See March adn pyramus's comments, yesterday under the Ferre scent.)

    It does sound good, though.

Are you thinking we might not? Not sure whether to be disappointed or not. I certainly don't need to spend the money, but it *is* from Balmain, so I am bound to like it.

    If it's painted plastic, I'd be dissapointed…

I haven't seen any new Balmains around here in a while. (Argentina)

And I've been wanting to try BalMan for god knows how long.

Im an optimistic at heart.. so I am hoping for a nice surprise on this one 😀

Eau d'Amazonie, which came out in 2005, is at the discounters but I never saw it in person. Haven't seen La Mome at all 🙁

This is the most wonderfull perfume you would ever smell, for sure it is not a golf ball but a disco shiny and heavy cap, very prestigious and well designed for fashionistas.

Is this available to purchase online anywhere from the US?

It was at parfum1.com yesterday, but I think the ladies over at MakeupAlley might have cleared out their stock. Other than that, I don't know — I haven't done a systematic search at the online discounters — maybe someone else has it.

It's back up at parfum1.com–I was told there might be a delay of a several days, but you can order it now.

After a few minutes of initial sweetness, this fragrance (on my skin) is very similar with Lutens Gris Clair. Bottle is very luxurious . I like it.
