L'Artisan has apparently ceased production on the 50 ml size of Dzing!, and the 100 ml size is slated to be discontinued at some unknown future date. You can read more at Aromascope, and thanks to Ina for permission to cross-post.
This is very discouraging news. Dzing! is weirdly brilliant and something of a cult favorite, and although we've never reviewed it, Angela has featured it twice: see Perfume Confession and The Leather Sisters.
I did not do a full scale search, but the 50 ml is still in stock at aedes, beautycafe and luckyscent.
Update: the 100 ml size of Dzing! is NOT discontinued.
If L'Art can disc Dzing!, nothing is sacred. (Still confused how the gorgeous L'eau de Navagateur went off course sales-wise.)
All those who like Bulgari Black and/or Cuir de Russie and haven't sampled Dzing! should do so now. Love that note of cade — makes Dzing! smell like you've spilt your best perfume in your best leather purse.
Most wholeheartedly agree — I find it very sad. L'Artisan hasdiscontinued things I thought were good before (Santal, Jacinthe, etc) but even Navigateur, I don't think, had the kind of following that Dzing does.
One of the very few L'Artisans that I like, and now it will disappear soon never to be smelled again (no I am not making fun of the fleeting nature of L'Artisans) :p
interesting note: the comment verification tag that I had to enter was 69snm ….
LOL! But you know that if you log in on the right column you never have to enter the verification tag, right?
It really is a shame. They ought to keep it on just because it is brilliant. I wonder if Bois Farine sells? Or Timbuktu? Now I'm worried about all my favorites.
Hello — long-time lurker and fan here. Just had to say that I'm heartbroken — Dzing! is one of the reasons I became obsessed with perfumes in the first place this past year. The gorgeous evocation of the circus — and the just plain oddness of it — is brilliant. An olfactory companion to Seurat's The Circus.
Welcome out of lurking! Hope it will take them a good, long time to discontinue it completely 🙁
Hi! Long time lurker and admirer of the blog here (though have posted on the lovely PST and Posse). The news about Dzing panicked me into a visit to my local L'AP (ok, it doesn't take much since it's on my way home!) last night and I asked the sweet guy who works there what the deal was? He said they are indeed dropping the 50ml size (the bottles had the old caps I noticed) but he didn't think they were dropping the fragrance altogether as he was expecting in some 100ml bottles with new packaging. He said they do sometimes cease production of the 50mls (Le Haie Fleurie for example) but that doesn't mean pulling it totally. I hope he's right and of course Ina at Aromascope will know best. 100mls is better than none at all of this fabulous stuff in my book! (though why why why they can't do lovely little 30mls is beyond me).
Ina of course works at a L'Artisan boutique, so I think all we can hope for is that the L'Artisan home office has miscommunicated something.
I will say this — ages ago I reported that they had discontinued about 5 scents, and I had received that info from a CS rep in France. L'Artisan counters, and the L'Artisan boutique in NY, kept saying no, they weren't discontinued at all. Within about a year, they were gone. I think sometimes they stop making something, and it just takes a long time for the existing stock to sell out entirely. So, your SA could just be about to receive a shipment of something already made (Dzing has already been spotted in 100 ml in the new bottle design)…doesn't mean it is “still in production”.
Ah yes, now I see your point *returns to work with a heavy heart*.
whaaaah!
I read something somewhere recently — the US head of L'Artisan denied they were going to discontinue it altogether. So we'll see…
Has this been discontinued? I saw this recently in one of my local shops. Still haven't got around to smelling it yet though
Sorry i just noticed that you have the 100ml is not discontinued – should read properly BEFORE posting
That's ok! And I rarely even post about discontinued things anymore, so frequently does the “news” turn out to be incorrect.
