Bond no. 9 Bleecker Street fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 30 November 2005 46 Comments

Bond no. 9 Bleecker Street perfume

Bleecker Street is the 24th and most recent in Bond no. 9’s series of perfumes celebrating famous neighborhoods in New York City. Bleecker Street is a fashionable shopping destination in the West Village, and also the location of the newest Bond no. 9 boutique. The fragrance was created by perfumer David Apel and features notes of violet leaf, cassis, thyme, jasmine, cedar, cinnamon, oakmoss, suede, patchouli, amber and vanilla.

Early reports that the Bleecker Street fragrance would pay tribute to the Magnolia Bakery (initially famous for their cupcakes, now famous for being featured on Sex & the City) down the street led me to assume that it would be a sweet, dessert-like gourmand. That is not quite what it turns out to be. Bond no. 9 is calling it a “woody gourmand oriental”, which is somewhat closer to the mark…

Fragrance shopping

Miryana Babic of i Profumi di Firenze will be making a personal appearance at Barneys in Beverly Hills this Saturday. She will have fragrance samples on hand, and will also be holding 2 drawings: one for a bottle of Spezie de Medici, and one for a "sneak peek" set of purse sprays of their upcoming 2006 fragrance releases, to be delivered in advance of the official launch. Stop by between noon and 5 pm.

L'Occitane is offering 10% off all gift sets. I'm not sure how long this offer lasts, but you can see the current selection on their website.

Dragonfly Blue Shea Butter

Posted by Anjali on 30 November 2005 4 Comments

Dragonfly Blue is one of my favorite small e-tailers: the quality of their products, packaging, and in particular their customer service is simply incredible, especially in light of the super-affordable prices. Although I love some of their scents, I never wore them often in the oil form; I found it annoying to apply and the base had a funny reaction with my skin chemistry. Even their Vanilla Almond, a perfect pure, airy and sweet meld of vanilla and almond that I maintain is one of the best almond scents out there, I rarely wore, because although it smelled great in the bottle, it invariably ended up smelling rather cardboard-y on my skin.

Then I discovered the company’s shea butters…

Fragrances to soothe the frazzled holiday shopper from CB I Hate Perfume

Posted by Robin on 29 November 2005 29 Comments

CB I Hate Perfume Just Breathe fragrance

For the holiday season, Marie Claire magazine asked Christopher Brosius of CB I Hate Perfume to create an exclusive fragrance for their December Gift Guide. Their request: something that would calm the over-stressed Type A personality. The result is Just Breathe, with notes of bamboo leaves, Japanese green tea, three varieties of cedarwood, and incense.

Just Breathe is a light, calming fragrance in a water formula that allows you to use it on your skin, your clothing, or as a room spray. If it was a color, it would be a very pale celadon green, and that describes the smell as well: pale leafy greens with a light wood undertone and the teensiest hint of incense. It would create a perfect atmosphere for yoga or meditation, if you are the sort of person who undertakes such activities, and makes a lovely spray for the bedsheets just before going to sleep…
